1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2017 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/31/2018

My 2017 Ford f350 has now experienced three events referred to as "death wobble" or shimmy which causes severe shaking of the entire truck and especially the steering wheel. First event in bakersfield calif where I hit consecutive bumps in the freeway while traveling 65 mph. Had to slow to less than 40 mph to get it to stop. Second event was towing my 5th wheel down a 6% grade into verde valley arizona. Heavy braking caused the same death wobble in addition to the truck pulling to the right. Speed was 65 mph. Third event was leaving mccarren airport in las vegas nevada where hitting a freeway bridge transition caused the death wobble again. Truck has been to local Ford dealership. Alignment checked ok, tracking bar torque ok, wheels ok, ball joints ok. Brake hose did not pass pressure test and was replaced under warranty. Dealership cannot find cause. I sincerely believe this is a design issue or oem parts installed at factory were defective at time of installation. This is my fourth superduty 4x4 supercrew. My other three never had this issue. In investigating this issue I found two automotive related websites where 35 plus late model superduty owners complained about this same problem.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/02/2015

While applying brakes in an attempt to stop, the brake pedal unexpectedly went directly to the floor, thus disallowing the truck to stop. The pedal was able to be pumped,up enough in order to stop the truck, but only one time. Attempts to pump the pedal and increase the pressure enough for future attempts at stopping the truck were unsuccessful. Inspection of the vehicle by certified mechanics revealed rust buildup on/near a weak spot on one of the braided, flexible front brake lines which had bursted, virtually making the brakes useless by disallowing pressure to be built up in the system. A further inspection of the system revealed a second braided, flexible brake line that was showing signs of rust buildup and eminent failure. The point of failure on both lines was the flexible, braided section itself, just adjacent to where it connected with the pre-molded portion of each line.

3 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

I was leaving my home with my travel trailer for vacation. I made it to the first traffic light and had great difficulty stopping the vehicle. The brake pedal went straight to the floor, I needed to use the trailer brakes to stop. After driving very slowly home I diagnosed the problem as a faulty brake line. This was not an ordinary type line, this was a stainless steel line that had some type of sealing device in the ends that failed. There are two more of the same type lines on the vehicle. I have great concern that if one of these lines failed will the other two fail? this could have been a horrific accident had I not been able to use trailer brakes to stop the vehicle.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

1 operating hour after coming down a 7% grade my 1999 f350 truck with camper suffered complete brake failure due to a corroded brake line. The fault occurred in a clip where moisture and abrasives had been held against the steel brake line. Nearby diesel fuel lines exhibited no rust. Because Ford used steel that can rust for the critical brake line, my family almost lost our lives and potentially caused the deaths of others. The replacement left par of the original brake line in place.

The vehicle had not taken the vehicle into an authorized dealership for diagnosis but did call; the dealer stated that the contact would have to repair the brake line at his expense. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 72,000.

11 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 12/24/2008

Rotted out rear brake line behind fuel tank. I was towing a trailer and went to stop at a light and the petal went to the floor. I swerved to avoid the car in front of me. My right lane was empty allowing me to use it as a emergency lane and stop because the trailer had brakes. I limped home for repairs. I replaced the complete brake line from front to rear. It had rotted out behind the fuel tank on the drivers side.

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1997 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/09/2008

A steel brake line on my truck rusted and ruptured causing a complete brake failure. This is the second occurrence of this problem on this vehicle. The brake line had rusted and had a partial failure, causing a leak. The rusted section was replaced about 5 years ago. The recent line failure caused an accident.

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 04/19/2008

I along with others are having problems with brake lines rusting out and failing on Ford trucks. My rear brake lines rusted out at the points where the lines are connected to the frame. I have spoken with other Ford truck owners and am hearing similar stories. I own a 2003 Ford F-350 4 wheel drive with a v-10 gas engine. I find it hard to believe that I should have 2 brake lines rust out on a truck that is only 5. 5 years old and only has 55k miles on it. My brakes failed early on a Sunday morning so I was able to stop my truck before there was an accident. I have spoken to mechanics and was told the connector used to hold the brake line to the frame scratched off a protective coating that keeps the brake lines from rusting thus I only had rust in the areas where the clips where. I had to pay 767. 76 dollars to have this problem fixed with only a guarantee that it will happen again within the next 5 or 6 years.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1997 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/19/2004

While braking, with no warning, brakes failed. Brake line running from diverter to rear axle rusted through behind front fuel tank at plastic bracket. There was no pedal resistance and no braking at all. All fluid was lost. The hole in the line is about 0. 250 inch long and about 0. 045 inch wide. There was never a problem or a soft pedal prior to this. Luckily this occurred in a valley in a driveway while turning around so there was no damage. This would have been potentially catastrophic had it occurred while driving on the road or while maneuvering on a steep grade. The truck is clean with no body rust. I am replacing the brake line. This should never have happened on a 7 year old vehicle.

25 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1996 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/22/2003

Stepped on brake to release the parking brake and the brake peddle went to the floor, causing me to hit a post. On investigation I found the brake line to the rear wheels rotted in the middle. All other lines in the area are like new. I have owned much older vehicles without having brake line problems. I believe the material in these lines are quite inferior and dangerous for a vehicle. I had just been towing my fifth-wheel trailer the day before.

35 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Ford F-350

My first serious situation occurred when I was pulling a 6000lb tractor. Conditions where good weather clear and outside temp 98. When approaching an area of hwy four lane divided hwy( 2 north 2 south). This area of hwy has several traffic lights spaced about two miles apart from one another. The truck operated as expected on the first three of lights. When I applied the brakes for the fourth time my truck pulled left so hard the cross bar on the steering wheel was straight up and down and I was still headed into the median toward north bound traffic, I released the brake pedal as soon as I went into the grass to regain control, once stopped I checked under my truck for a possible broken brake line, but I seen nothing wrong. I proceeded to the office after checking everything and things seemed ok after the brakes cooled down. During checking the brakes and lines the left front rotor seemed very much hotter than the right front! the truck has been doing this and continues to do this. Southwest Ford in weatherford is the only dealer that has worked on it for this problem. They keep changing the pads and rotors and giving it back. I told them the conditions in witch the truck pulls but they will not load it. They want me to load it and bring it to them!!! I am very frustrated and worried to load it, and drive it. I have done everything they have asked and I guess I will load it too. But this will be the last straw! I had found an old message on the internet from "the carringtons" that had the similar problem with their 99 model and got a 2000 to replace it. They said they had the same problem but not as bad as the 99. If you could help me and possible others, I really think it will save lives!.
