2 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2017 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 03/29/2018

Started vehicle, placed in reverse to back out of driveway, at end of driveway stepped on break and did not stop, pressed hard and stopped. Put truck in drive to get back on driveway and almost hit garage door as breaks did not work normally so I pressed emergency break. Shut off truck, restarted and breaks worked fine. Thought it was a computer glitch and restart corrected. Drove next several days with no problem, then on way home from store I again lost normal breaking and had no power steering . I was doing approximately 30 miles per hour on a city street. Pulled over, shut off truck and restarted but this time that did not correct problem. Drove about 1 mile to Ford dealer and turned over for repair. The vehicle only has 17k miles on it. They diagnosed the power steering pump to be bad and replaced. I have not had problem since the repair. I have about 30 miles since repair. The problem is that I received no failure or warning lights, started intermittent and if I would of been driving other different conditions I would likely of been in a serious accident. If my wife was driving she would of not been able to stop or steer the truck. I have normal strength for a 60 year old man and I could barely stop and steer the truck. If I was pull an RV I would of been in a very bad situation. I am concerned that there was no warning and concerned that after first failure it seemed to reset thus assuming a computer issue. Seems strange that a mechanical pump failed and then started working for several days before failing again. After the first failure that corrected itself, I did go to Ford dealer where I bought the car and they said they were not aware of any issues but if it happens again bring the truck in to be checked. Unfortunately, I was 60miles from my purchasing dealer so went to closest Ford dealer for the repair.

3 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2001 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 04/18/2016

The contact owns a 2001 Ford F-350. While the vehicle was stopped on any incline, the steering wheel lost power, locked up, and did not turn left or right. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who replaced the power steering pump, power steering gear box, and checked all components in the brake system. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was 63,400.

5 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2008 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

Driving on a corner onramp the truck's power steering gave out and the vehicle became almost impossible to steer. I applied the brakes and the steering returned. This has happened numerous times while driving. No issues were found with the power steering pump. Recently had the power steering system flushed and that seemed to improve the problem; however, it's starting to return. Will be taking it back in again to see if the issue can be fixed.

7 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

The initial occurrence in December 2011 was a steering stick in the direction of the turn and required force to turn opposite the direction of the turn. The problem ceased and did not reoccur until mid-may of 2012. The problem manifested itself as a severe oscillation of the vehicle steering accompanied by directional sticking and "indexing" in the steering. The first attempt at repair was to flush the power steering system. This actually resulted in a worse oscillation. The problem was still intermittent but occurring more frequently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem and I asked for the steering gear to be replaced. This did not solve the problem. The next step was to replace the steering damper. This also did not result in elimination of the problem. During the damper replacement it was noted that there existed a very small amount of play in the dragling ball joint. While not particular out of the acceptable range we agreed to replace the drag link. The drag link has been replaced and the vehicle continues to demonstrate a "walking" motion requiring the operator to actively steer the vehicle to remain in a lane. In addition, the vehicle will demonstrate relatively good stability in a sweeping turn until the wheel is displaced beyond roughly 5 degrees at which point the steering displays an active pull in the direction of the turn. The vehicle is being returned to the dealer for continued evaluation. The Ford technicians have examined and passed the power steering pump, the hydroslave system, front tires, front tire pressure, front ball joints as well as the front axle u-joints. At this point, they have no further suggestions as to the cause of the problem.

8 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 10/22/2010

I have a 2006 Ford f350 4 wheel drive single wheel long bed king ranch. I will be driving down the road or interstate anywhere between 30 and 80 miles an hour, and if you hit the smallest imperfections in the road the truck will start shaking violently, uncontrollable, the steering wheel moves about 14 inches side to side so fast and hard, that it takes ill I've got to hold on to the wheel. You can hear the tires chirp side to side on the pavement it wobbles so severely. I've replaced the steering dampener, the power steering pump, had it aligned 4 times, brand new tires, I have adjusted the castor accordingly to Fords TSB forum, had my rotors turned, and wheels and tires balanced so many times. Its so bad, it shakes the stuff in the bed of my truck onto the highway. My truck only has 92,000 miles on it. Im afraid to drive it. All I know is that I didn't pay 64,000 dollars for a truck that I cant drive. I will spend the money to fix it, but Ford says its a normal condition.

9 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 05/30/2009

2006 Ford f350 4x4 steering problems. Dealer authorized 2" revtek leveling kit installed on front end. Stock 20" wheels and tires. Only Ford dealer maintained since new. Steering is inconsistent. Two problems. First: serious safety issue. At highway speeds truck will veer left crossing centerline. Requires excessive steering effort to correct, which frequently results in overcorrection to right. Power steering effort appears in increase and decrease during events. Incident requires letting off the gas and slowing to get vehicle back in control. Second: after low speed 90 degree turns (left or right turn at an intersection in town) steering will not want to straighten out and requires excessive effort. Frequently, after straightening out truck will veer in opposite direction. At low speeds vehicle is controllable with effort. Just spent another $741 at Ford dealer on new power steering pump, rotate, balance, alignment. Problem was not fixed.
