2 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2014 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 01/16/2021

2014 F-350 front end / steering shaking known as the death wobble. Only way to stop the shaking was to reduce speed under 50 mph. This has previously occurred in 8/2018 with approx 116k miles on the truck. Vehicle was checked more than once at service location, including brakes, tires, alignment,. . . But could not find a problem. Different "fixes" were tried, which included track bar and tie rod replacement. After 2nd track bar and ball joint replacement, issue seemed to be resolved. However, the death wobble has returned. Current mileage is no approx 175k miles. This is a known issue by Ford, yet there have been no recalls to fix the issue. Truck will be returning to repair facility this week, costing more money out of my pocket, to hopefully put another band-aid on the problem.

3 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2012 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/07/2020

I recently crossed a bridge expansion joint doing somewhere between 70 and 75 mph my truck steering wheel shook violently as I could barely hold it. I slowed down to about 40-45 mph before it quit. This was on a Saturday. Monday I took it to a local garage to have the tires rotated and balanced and check for anything that could be bad in the steering/front end suspension. They rotated the tires and found the steering stabilizer shock was leaking, they replaced it and started to bring me the truck. It started shaking violently at 50 mph. They ended up replacing the drag link, right outer tie rod end, adjusting sleeve, ball joint at tracker bar and right outer lower tie rod end. They said I needed to get an alignment on it, I drove the truck a couple hundred miles seemed to be fine. I took to the shop they used for a alignment, they did their thing and I left. When I left I noticed the steering wheel wasn't straight so I took it for a quick drive. At 60 mph I did the violent shaking again and having to slow down to 45 mph for it to stop, it shook twice in a 6 mile stretch of interstate. I returned it to the alignment shop and they said they could not have done anything to cause it. . I took it back to the first shop and they got it in the Ford garage for an alignment. Still shaking after they had it for most of a week they replaced the tires and it seemed to help. Until a couple days later I was running 62-64mph in a slight turn and it started doing it again. It is still doing it and I know when it is going to start so I'm ready. After research on the web I hear that this is called the "death wobble".

4 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2014 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/19/2020

Lost control of steering braking and speed . It has happen 3 times twice with my son . 1st time was about a month prior to the big one . Driving in a construction zone. So not about 45mph hit a pothole brakes started intermittently hitting all different sides . Very difficult to control. Almost hit concrete wall. 2nd time with similar to the 1st one however on highway going 75mph it took control while in motion. We almost wrecked 3rd time happened on a dirt road on a curve no control over steering brakes hit all for different areas at different times. Brakes hit so hard on the driver's side consistently it broke the tie rod and the arm sleeve slamming us into a dirt bank on the right side and some trees damaging our vehicle separating arm sleeve and tyrod. . We called Ford dealer let them know what happened they said no recalls on our VIN they would fix but out of our pocket. We had to call ins to cover exterior damage as a result my brand new tires wore completely no one seems to want to help.

5 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2017 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/11/2020

Starting almost immediately after a used purchase of the vehicle at 48,000 miles and 3 years old, a intense front axle oscillation was intermittently noticed at speeds between 45 and 75mph, often the issue would happen while driving straight directly after driving over bumps in the roadway or bridge expansion joints. After having the Ford dealership look at the vehicle 4 separate times to try and figure out the root cause of the problem, the issue still has not been solved. So far the fixes tried by the dealer have been balancing the tires, installing new steering dampener, new tie rod ends, new drag link and two separate alignments.

7 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2014 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/29/2020

While traveling at interstate speed of 60-70 mph my f350 will start violently shaking, what is commonly know as the death wobble. It can only be stopped by sharply braking the vehicle. I have experienced this violent shaking more than 20 times during the last two years. I have had several different vendors recommend and make repairs. For example, u-joint, stabilizer shock, tie rods, shocks, alignment. I continue to have incidences with the front going out of control. Very concerned for my safety and the safety of others on the road because of the need to brake in order to bring the shaking under control. This is a common problem for the Ford f250 and f350 and I am at a loss that it is not identified for a recall to ensure the safety of owners and other traveling on.

8 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2011 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 12/18/2019

2011 Ford F-350 super duty 4x4. The vehicle has never had a lift or large tires of any kind installed on it and has always had stock oem spec tires. This vehicle has what has become known as "the death wobble". Ford calls it "sustained steering wheel oscillation". It is extremely dangerous and terrifying to experience. The problem is well documented and I am shocked that there has not yet been a safety recall on this. The death wobble primarily occurs at speeds above 50 or so miles per hour when the vehicle hits a pot-hole, expansion joint, unavoidable road debris, etc. It also has a nasty snowball effect in that once you have experienced it a couple of times the additional damage it is creating causes it to happen easier and easier to the point that it will then occur regularly all the way down to 35 miles per hour. We have experienced the death wobble literally many dozens of times over the years since we purchased this vehicle. We have done and replaced everything that we can think of to fix this problem; some of them multiple times but nothing works. Things we have done: new tires (multiple times), new front-end alignment (multiple times), new track bar bushing and ball joint (multiple times), new tie rod ends (multiple times), new center link (multiple times), new shock absorbers, new steering damper, new upper and lower ball joints, new u-joints. None of this has worked. The death wobble is so violent that it is wreaks havoc on the entire truck including the newly installed parts, the frame, drivetrain and suspension components, chassis, etc. Literally everything on the vehicle including windshields. Ford is obviously aware of this problem and the propensity for their solid front axle f-250 and F-350 trucks from the past two decades to experience the death wobble. Somebody will eventually die from this, if it hasn't happened already. It needs dealt with!.

9 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2019 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/08/2019

My 2019 Ford F-350 has approximately 16,300 miles on it. On Friday, November 8, 2019, I was driving at highway speed (approximately 65 mph) westbound on interstate 10 near san antonio, TX around mile marker 588 shortly after noon. I was in the left lane. I hit a small, but relatively deep pothole in my lane, which caused a jolt to the vehicle. What followed next is difficult to describe as I have never experienced anything like it in over 40 years of driving. The front end of the vehicle started to shake and wobble violently. I initially thought both of the front steer tires had experienced a blowout simultaneously as the shaking was occurring on both front tires and the front suspension. The vehicle was very difficult to control. I was able to decelerate and move to the right shoulder. At some point during my deceleration, perhaps around 25 mph, I was able to regain control of the vehicle and the shaking stopped. I exited and inspected the vehicle, but could see no damage to either tire, nor any indication of damage to the tie rods, shocks or other components of the front suspension. I was able to resume driving and later conducted a more thorough inspection, again finding no apparent damage or cause for the violent shaking and wobbling I had experienced. I am terrified that this will occur again. In different circumstances, this could easily result in loss of control of the vehicle, with very bad consequences. I occasionally pull fifth wheel and goose neck trailers with this vehicle, which is why I purchased it. If this occurred while pulling a load, the consequences could be terrible.

10 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2011 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

The well known issue called "death wobble". This is documented issue with the Ford f-series trucks where the truck violently wobbles out of control when driving approximately 55mph. Ford denies this is an issue, yet you can find evidence of this issue all over the Ford truck forums. With my truck, this issue is becoming more frequent. When it occurs, I have to pull off to the shoulder and slow down to approximately 15mph before it stops. I have replaced the shocks, tie rod ends, track bar, track bar ball joint, rotated tires, alignment, and it is still occurring. The only thing left to replace are the ball joints then pretty much the entire front end suspension will have been rebuilt at a cost of a couple thousand dollars. This is a significant safety issue and can easily cause an accident, especially when in construction zones on the highway. From what I've read, this has already caused accidents in certain cases and is due to a poor design of these trucks. Ford needs to address this and the NHTSA should force Ford to issue a recall to correct the problem.

16 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2009 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

I am the original owner of a 2009 Ford f350 srw diesel crew cab. At approximately 70,000 miles I began to experience a strong front end vibration; death wobble. When I go over uneven roads at speeds above 55 mph. The vibration is so great that the steering wheel requires a tight hold to keep control of the truck. The vibration continues until I slow down to around 40 mph. This becomes even scarier when I am on a freeway fly over that turns and I hit an expansion joint. The truck shakes and tries to push away from the turn. I took my truck to the dealer on four occasions. The first visit they said they could not duplicate the problem and that I needed new tires. I bought new tires and it did not correct the problem. I took it back the second time and they changed out the ball joints, tie rods, steering damper, did a front end alignment and balanced my wheels. It seemed to work for a short time until a part fell off the front end of my truck and hit another one behind me in the car pool lane. I took it back to the dealer to find out what I lost. I was told a part fell off but they did not work near it. Funny thing, it began to vibrate again after that. I recently took it back and talked to the technician before I left the truck so he would understand what it was doing. He took it for a drive but did not get it to vibrate as I reported to him. He told me that my truck drives just like all f350's without a load. I have put my slide in camper in the bed of my truck, 3,500 lbs. And it still vibrates violently. I think that would be considered a load and it truly feels like a death wobble as described by many internet postings. The Ford rep I spoke to said they are not aware of any problems. I am in the process of filing a formal complaint with Ford.

2005 Ford F-350 crew cab dually, 2 wheel drive experienced front wheel oscillation (aka "death wobble") while traveling at 65 mph on interstate 10 eastbound near blythe, CA. The truck shook so bad I nearly drove off the highway before I slowed down enough for it to damp out and stop shaking. I had a slide in camper on the truck at the time. I understand this is an issue with these f-series Ford pick up trucks and Ford has done little to resolve it. The truck is pure stock with only 35,600 miles on it.
