Windshield Problems of Ford F-350

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350 sd. The contact stated that while walking to the vehicle, he noticed that the sliding rear window glass had detached and fell into the rear seat in the cabin of the vehicle. The contact stated that the glue adhesive, polyurethane seal, and two-sided tape had deteriorated. There were no reported injuries. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to a glass company but was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the repairs were not covered under a recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 164,000.

Consumer was traveling on highway at regular speed and without prior warning driver's side door window glass exploded and shattered inside of vehicle. There were no other cars around at the time. Dealership was aware of problem.

On March 15, 2001 consumer noticed crack in windshield. On March 18, 2001 while driving 55 - 60 mph, windshield developed a crack, crack went from bottom of windshield to top. No rock hit windshield.
