44 Wiring problem of the 2005 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 07/01/2006

July 1, 2006 at approximately 10:30 am, I was traveling on I-81 at 65 mph towing a 9,000 lb. Trailer and the truck stalled without warning. No check engine light and no hesitation. It simply died. Without power brakes or steering, the truck was completely uncontrollable. Luckily, we were on a section of highway with wide shoulders and light traffic. The truck died so suddenly that I couldn't even pull to the shoulder. The truck came to a complete stop in the left lane and would not restart. Drivers behind me swerved to the should to avoid a collision. The dealer did not find a problem and did nothing to prevent this situation from occurring again. After the truck sat at the dealer for 2 days (over the weekend), it started for the technician on the following Monday. The dealer informed me that NHTSA #05v270000 does not apply to my truck, although this campaign number describes the exact situation that occurred with my truck. The truck and trailer combined weigh approximately 19,000 lbs. 19,000 lbs traveling at 65 mph and suddenly loosing brakes and steering is a death waiting to happen. Please help before an innocent motorist(s) get killed by this truck.

46 Wiring problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 03/30/2006

: the contact stated there was a NHTSA recall # 05v270000, concerning the electrical system. After the recall work was performed, the vehicle's timing was off and the vehicle looses power while driving. The contact has taken the vehicle back to the dealer and surrounding dealerships numerous times for inspections. The vehicle did not have any problems before the wiring harness was replaced. The dealer commented the electronic timing was off because of the wiring harness. The dealer is very unwilling to correct the problem with the vehicle since the problem is related to the recall remedy.

47 Wiring problem of the 2003 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 02/15/2006

2003 Ford F-350 diesel stalling. Vehicle stalls without warning. Condition started within the first 7000 miles. Dealer seemed to remedy as the condition never recurred until 37k miles; now, 42k miles. Commenced stalling in Feb 2006 and has stalled 6 times from Feb 2006 to August 2006. The second time it stalled, we were in freezing rain in 4x4 driving my wife to work (she didn't want to drive in those conditions) the vehicle stalled on top of tall bridge 300 ft over the willamette river in ice conditions. Lost steering, had to shift to neutral while still moving and re-start the vehicle to re-gain control. Normally, the vehicle simply stalls in the middle of the road, and while this is a major distraction, I've managed to re-start without incident. Dealer/Ford has been excruciating reluctant to remedy. Even though they have recalled 180,000 2004-2005 vehicles under recall 05v27000 7/22/05 for the exact same symptom, engine, vehicle model, they claim to be unaware of the above recall. The vehicle has been in for repair numerous times (6 times) since February 2006. A flight recorder has been installed twice to record computer data. Once they indicated it was an egr problem and presumably remedied. Still stalls. Got another stalling incident recorded on the flight recorder (twice now) but apparently no good reading. I have contacted Ford customer service (regional) three times now and they have seemed to be moderately helpful, but I don't know if the service department and customer service communicate effectively. As it stands now, the dealer/Ford service is ignoring the recall exists for similar vehicles (my vehicle is an F-350 6. 0 diesel with the exact same symptoms, but it is a 2003 model). They want me to leave the vehicle with the dealership to connect the flight recorder yet a 3rd time and allow them to drive the vehicle around the 700 or so miles it takes to get a reading (probably a month) and I'm responsible for any liability.

48 Wiring problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 12/27/2005

The contact owns a 2004 Ford f350 super duty. While driving at speeds of 50 mph, the contact stated the vehicle would hesitate and drive unusually rough. After driving the vehicle for a while, the failure would correct itself. The vehicle demonstrated sign of the failure since the date of purchase. The vehicle had been inspected by two separate dealers where the fuel injectors were replaced. The contact believed NHTSA campaign id number 05v270000 (electrical system: wiring) was directly related to the failure but could not confirm if his VIN was included with the recall. The failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 42,610.

49 Wiring problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 10/31/2005

: the contact stated recall (05v270000) regarding electrical system: wiring was performed which resulted the vehicle to stall twice, make different noises and had problems accelerating at 48 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer 8 times for this problem since 10/05 and the dealer was unable to duplicate the issue. Also the gas mileage went down from 17 to 12 miles per gallon.

50 Wiring problem of the 2005 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 10/04/2005

The contact owns a 2005 Ford f350 super duty. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled numerous times without warning while driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. The dealer replaced the fuel injectors, the turbo charger was replaced four times, the head gaskets, and the rear end rings however the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to stall without warning and the engine could no longer be started. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 05v270000 (electrical system: wiring). The failure mileage was 9,368 and the current mileage was 175,000. Updated 8/21/12 the consumer stated the high pressure oil pump, front end seals, end rings, fuel injectors, turbo charger, head gaskets and egr valve were repalced. The transmission was slippiing when the vehicle was put in reverse. The abs light illuminated.

51 Wiring problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/21/2005

The vehicle stops in the middle of the road without warning. The vehicle has been seen by the dealer 30 or 40 times. The more the vehicle is worked on by the dealer the worse the problem becomes. After vehicles quits it will not start for a few minutes. Then when it starts it smokes. The dealer did recall repair the wiring harness. Also, repairs were made to transmission, radiator, wiring harness, turbo hose, and reprogrammed the computer. All these repairs have not fixed the problem. The dealer last instructed the owner to wait until it quit and then they would tow it to the dealer. The vehicle had this quitting problem from the time it was new. There were never any lights or warning before the vehicle dies. The last problem occurred about twenty minutes ago, and at this time the vehicle was not taken to the dealer.

52 Wiring problem of the 2000 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/17/2005

The contact stated vehicle turned off while driving. It just died. It varied at the speeds that the contact was going. The dealer changed various sensors. They could not duplicate the problem. They have repaired the wiring harness. On 9-16-05 the contact took vehicle to the dealer, and the dealer replaced the wiring harness. However, they were still experiencing the same problems with the vehicle just stopping. It will sometimes start back right away. Sometimes it will just not start, and one could wait 10 minutes and it will restart or may have to wait 2 hours before it will restart. This has been an ongoing problem for two years. The contact cited recall 05s34 on the same vehicle but just different year models.

53 Wiring problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 08/16/2005

Consumer owns a 2004 f350 Ford diesel. He bought vehicle new with about 3 miles on it. This vehicle was a safety hazard. There has been several times that he has almost had an accident because the vehicle stalled. The last time was on August 16, 2005, he drove the vehicle about 110 miles, shut off vehicle, and let it sit in the shade for about 20 minutes. He then started the vehicle and drove about 3 tenths of a mile and shut vehicle off again, and let it sit in the shade for about and hour and thirty minutes. He then tried to start the vehicle and the vehicle would not start. Has to roll it off to start it when this happens. He has been in contact with the dealer and the manufacturer trying to get something done with the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted several times, and finally wanted him to take the vehicle back to the dealer where he purchased it. He took the vehicle back to dealer at Fords request, and vehicle was still at dealer because he did not want to pick it up because he did not feel that it could be fixed. The dealer started charging a deductible for each time it was repaired. On August 2, 2005 he took vehicle to dealer to have recall 05v27000 work done for the stalling and starting problem. Dealer assured him that this would fix the stalling and restart problem. Since the recall repairs were done the vehicle almost stalled 3 times, and on 2 occasions did not start. When the vehicle stalled it will not start back with starter, but for some reason it will roll off and start. The recall work did not fix problem, and he wanted to have something done so that he will no longer have to deal with this. He does want vehicle replaced by Ford.

54 Wiring problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

55 Wiring problem of the 2003 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

Wiring harness melted, had to be replaced. Dealer at first attempted to say it was a loose oil cap that caused the problem, then after a week for repair simply said the wiring harness melted and had to be replaced. Vehicle was in shop over at 4,000 miles, because the high pressure oil cap fell off of the vehicle, and it lost all of its oil, numerous times in the shop for injectors, Ford knows about the problem but refuses to fix the truck. So needless to say it is a faulty product, it has lost all of its oil once, its parts were melted, which says to me unsafe. I did not receive any information on a recall for the engine. My father was driving it to the shop when the radio was going in and out, he thought it was a problem with the battery. While it melted the harness it could have melted my father. The truck no longer runs and sits because it is to costly to repair every 10,000 miles. I do not remember the exact month I have a stack of repair orders.

58 Wiring problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 09/10/2004

When truck originally purchased bubble on tire, and dealer said they all come that way, tire went flat while parked about a month later, no holes, we were told tire was no good, had to be replaced. Truck kept stalling, loss of brakes and steering while navigating downhill, solenoid assembly replaced. 2 days later kept stalling. Dealer had truck 21 days to rebuild transmission, again solenoid assembly replaced after that replaced wiring harness. Since then, caliper broke and brakes went, turbo has been replaced. Vehicle has repeatedly stalled, noises from rear end with no dx. Now engine smoking, loss of power, rpms jump while idling. Truck has also repeatedly changed gears automatically, ie while at red light truck would jump to 3rd and then truck would stall.

59 Wiring problem of the 2004 Ford F-350

Failure Date: 06/15/2004

Since new vehicle purchase, my Ford f350 diesel p/u experienced engine surging (200-250 rpm) while stopped with the automatic transmission in drive. The surge was significant enough to lurch the truck forward with the brake applied, such as at a stoplight. In several cases, I almost rear ended other vehicles before applying the brake hard enough to stop the truck from moving forward. I later learned to anticipate the surge using the brakes to minimize movement of the truck while stopped. My surging problem was confirmed on multiple occasions by technicians during test rides, but they could not duplicate the problem in the shop. In all cases, the first step was to reflash the ecm which masked the problem for several days while the truck relearned my driving habits and prevented a diagnosis. The engine had to be operated at full temperature in road conditions before the problem developed. In the shop, idling the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature was not sufficient to replicate the problem. Ford dealers made multiple attempts (10 or more) to diagnose the problem: replacing injector control pressure (icp) module, egr valve, and icp wiring connectors to no avail. The problem was finally diagnosed and corrected, out of warranty at approx. 44,500 miles, by replacing the engine wiring harness. I found a dealer who was willing to send a technician on a test ride with me and hook up an onboard computer laptop that identified the problem before reflashing the computer ecm. A number of surging complaints from other owners of Ford f350 are posted in online forums documenting similar circumstances and frustration. The incident date provided is the approximate date of the first occurrence. In my case, the surging occurred on a near daily basis, although intermittently, for 41000 miles of driving without any resolution from Ford. The engine wiring harness was replaced in Feb 2009 which corrected the surging in my truck. I paid a $100 deductible.

The caller says truck sometimes loses power. There is no warning that it is going to happen every time. The caller said that sometimes the engine light would come on, and then vehicle would lose power, and sometimes the light would not come on when he lost power. It happens at any speed and when sitting still. Truck has been to dealer 5 times and they could not find the cause of the problem. He recently had recall work done on the wiring harness. After 170 miles the truck continued to lose power. The caller had an appointment next Tuesday with dealer. Manufacturer said to keep bringing it in. Consumer stated 2004 Ford f350 super duty was having electrical surge problems. Consumer was complaining to dealership that vehicle had surge problems for the past year and a half. The dealer said that they could not duplicate the problem. Dealer did updated the computer software and the truck ran some what better after that. The problem came back after a week, and went back to having computer surges. The truck was in the dealership for repairs on this issue five times. Same result, the truck would work for a little while, then back to the same surging problems which have been intermittent. The manufacturer has been contacted 5 to 6 times. Ford has not helped in resolving this issue. The lemon law has been looked into by the consumer. The lemon law was denied by the state. Consumer had asked Ford to investigate this problem. Ford said that they had no recalls or anything else on the truck. As of July 27, the truck stalled in the middle of the road. The truck had to sit for around 15 minutes before it would start owner could actually drive it. The truck ran yesterday for 3 miles and started stalling again, twice yesterday, 7-29-2005.
