48 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2021

While driving transmission seems to start to slip and then fails. Upon further research, found that there is a known issues with the tcm on vehicle. This issue came about while driving in traffic and could have caused an accident when the transmission stopped working if I was unable to get into a parking lot before it stopped working.

49 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2021

Before taking a cross country trip in July 2020 the vehicle was taken to a local Ford dealership and asked if there were any outstanding issues to do with the transmission or otherwise. The car was acting up some with shifting. They stated there was nothing and no issues. Of course they did not document this on the service ticket. On September 23, 2021 when pulling into a parking lot, a loud noise happened and warning lights (check engine and transmission reset) came on and then barely made it out of the path of the main road. Once in the parking lot, the car would not reverse. We managed to get the car pushed out of the way. Once the ignition was shut off, it took multiple attempts to restart, finally restarting in neutral. The vehicle was towed to a different Ford dealership where we are told it's throwing codes related to the pcm module for the transmission. After calling Ford motor company, we discovered the car was originally purchased in July 2011, so we are just outside of the 10 year extended warranty on this issues by a little over two months. We are the second owner and it only has about 90,100 miles, which is under the extended warranty mileage of 150,000. Ford motor company customer service has stated multiple times that I will get a call by a supervisor in one business day after I've asked to speak to a supervisor. I have yet to get a call back after a week and a half of trying. We have not had the car repaired as of yet since they won't call me back or escalate me to anyone.

The engine revved to 5000 rpms, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission clutch actuator was replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing inaccurate fuel gauge reading. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle lunged forward, lost motive power and stalled. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the pcm was reprogrammed; however, the failure recurred mildly. The contact stated that he noticed that the vehicle was experiencing excessive fuel consumption. The contact stated that he noticed fuel leaking onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to the local pep boys, where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank was deformed and overfilled. The contact stated that the recall of NHTSA campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline) had previously been completed on the vehicle; however, the vehicle was not experiencing the failure at the time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

51 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2021

I need to change my transmission control module.

52 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2021

Transmission control module failed. Check engine warning light came on, vehicle began to lose power, so I pulled over. When I attempted to put the car in reverse, it would not respond. Car had to be put in neutral, pushed onto the street before it would go into ‘drive’. Car was sluggish and would only go a maximum speed of 20mph. Dealer has confirmed that the tcm is faulty. There were no prior warning lights or incidents to indicate that there was a problem - the check engine light came on and there was an immediate loss of power and no reverse. Ford motor company customer service has been contacted, but they refuse to do a warranty repair because the warranty was exceeded by 1 month by the time I was able to get a diagnosis by the dealership. The car is well below the covered 150,000 warranty on the tcm. There are 126,672 actual miles on the car as of 7/29/2021. There currently is a class action lawsuit because of these tcm issues with Ford Focus vehicles. The tcm replacement part is currently back ordered and has been for weeks, according to the parts manager at the dealership. Since that is the case, I am unable to get this vehicle repaired, or even get a good estimate when a part may become available, therefore, I don’t yet have any repair receipts to provide at this time.

53 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module (tcm) had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the parts were not available. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

54 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2021

Started the vehicle, it reported a transmission error and repair immediately message - the first indication of a problem. Drove home and made appointment to have transmission looked at. The car drove ok most of the way, then the transmission just slipped and died on the road in the middle of a construction site blocking traffic. After several minutes (after on site police called for a tow), the car restarted and was able to limp the last 1/4 mile or so to the shop. The transmission specialist referred me to Ford as they can't get the tools, suspected electrical. Towed to Ford. After waiting nearly 2 weeks for a diagnosis that only took several minutes, it was determined to be the transmission control module. It's a known issue and the warranty for this part is extended, however (1) if it had died on a major highway instead of a town road could have been a huge safety issue and (2) it's a known problem but Ford won't replace until it occurs, yet they have zero national stock and no idea when parts will be available.

I'm still making payments on my 2012 Ford Focus se. 3 days after buying it the check engine light came on said catalyst coverter is plugged up. Now the transmission is missing up. It has never one time passed the emissions control test since owning it. There isn't a day that goes by that this car hasn't throw me a different code from the check engine light. I got screwed. The car isn't safe to drive idk how many time my daughter and I have almost got hit because of the car not moving when giving the gas too it. I took it to the Ford dealership to get all my recalls done and they only did 1 recall and that was the tcm. They said that would fix the transmission problem im having. What lies.

61 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

My 2012 Ford Focus has repeatedly been in for service do the the dual clutch transmission as well the the transmission control module. Since I've owned the vehicle, it has seen 2 new clutches as well as 2 tcms. Over the lifetime of the vehicle it has had 5 clutch replacements and 3 tcm replacements. Thankfully, the transmission has not failed on me yet. This car is very unreliable and gives me constant headaches. My car dealer is about 30 minutes away and every time I go their for them to test my transmission, it always fails. Its a complete waste of my time because no matter what I do, the car always will shudder. My 14mo1 warranty has now run out so eventually when I need a new clutch it will cost me roughly $2,500. I have contacted Ford about this issue multiple times and now I am filing for arbitration. This car is nothing but a death trap.

62 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2020

Had a recall on it for program of tcm had it done and almost didn't make it back home now it wont backup at all or go forward good all so was told there was a recall on the dual clutch just got notice but was told car had to many miles and to old now.

63 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2020

Check engine light is on - diagnosed as transmission control module is bad and needs to be replaced; however, the code (p0908) is not part of the extended warranty. The vehicle is showing all symptoms/behavior which if the code was p0606, replacement would be covered. If the tcm is bad, it's bad and Ford should offer consideration - currently, the vehicle is not safe to drive!.

64 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2020

There was a recall on the dps6 I tried to get it repaired twice in sept 2019 when I recieved the letter that they had to reinburesme me for the tcm they make me pay for even though Ford was at fault and knew it. Of course the two times I took it they said nothing was wrong with the tranmission clutch/shutter it was to be fixed no charge untill Feb 29 2020 but now of course the car is stalling out going down the road. When you take off from a stop it acts like its in nuetral and the car will not go instead rolls back. Then it will decide to go that's very dangerous the a car is my teenage daughters. Ford expects to me pay 2600 to fix it even though they know the transmission clutch are broken.

65 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving on the highway the vehicle started to shutter and lose speed with the rpms reeving real high . The contact had to exit from the highway and park the vehicle and had it towed an independent mechanic. They diagnosised the vehicle after a test drive and test on the computer. The mechanic called the dealer keystone Ford 301 walker rd, chambersburg, PA 17201 (717) 264-5104. The fact that the vehicle was at first covered under the warrenty was first approved and then not approved after the correct vehicle mileage was given. The dealer then quoted the cost to fix the vehicle that involved replacing the transmission control module and reprograming the new part for safe operation on the roads. An appointment had been made and the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the repair are currently being completed. The manufacturer rechecked the warrenty information to confirm that the vehcicle was no longer covered and referred the contact to call NHTSA. The failure mileage was 158,900. Tf.

66 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2019

I have a field service action for my tcm to be repaired, I've never had problems with it so it was never fixed, my car recently rolled over 151,000 miles and started having problems with the tcm I talked to a dealer and they told me the field service action was only good for 150,000 miles. I think it's very odd timing since I just recently barely went over 150,000 miles,. My car has been stranded in a parking lot for 3 weeks now unable to start.

67 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2019

Ford dealership states "clutch shudder problem" occurring, but theres a service call on it only to inform me that the warranty has run out and the extension on the repairs of this have expired. I was never informed of this repair, had my services completed. When inquiring to the Ford dealership that serviced the transmission for $249 last March,as well as Ford customer relations dept, I was informed by both that unless someone comes in with this complaint they do not repair it. Lucky me it has lasted 9 months past the "service call extension date", 9 months past the "manufacturer warranty". This I also believe is the result of the gas valve not malfunctioning since prior to the recall for that-back in 2015 I reported this and in 2016 prior to the service call for the tcm I had it serviced as well! now they are acting as if they did not know the dual-clutch transmission was faulty and are refusing to repair their faulty parts! I'm a nurse for the federal government, I just want to get back and forth to work in the vehicle I pay for (7 payments remaining by the way)!! make them fix their mistake! the gas valve stalling the car probably related to the transmission problems now having it had stalled the cars before they owned that problem!! for the record there were far less miles on my car when they had to repair the tcm!.

68 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2019

Vehicle came out of gear in a stop light intersection while turning left. An accident was narrowly avoided. The tcm had been replaced two days prior. I returned the car to the dealership that replaced the tcm, they kept the car for five days, stated they could not reproduce the failure, and refused to take further action. I feel the car is unsafe and Ford is refusing to address the problem. Historically, we have had five clutch packs replaced and at least three tcm's. Furthermore, this vehicle has been in the shop for transmission repair more than 60 days in the past five years.
