38 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/18/2024

While changing a dead battery, the vehicle's transmission control module (tcm) malfunctioned and caused the shift drum to shear off a piece of the aluminum casing inside the gearbox. Dtc codes p2837 and p287b were present indicating a shift fork failure. The dual-clutch transmission (dps6) lost access to reverse, 2nd gear and 4th and 6th gear, but was still able to shift into 1st, 3rd and 5th. Under these conditions, there is the possibility that the sheared off piece of aluminum can enter the gear train and cause the transmission to seize, putting passengers life at risk. The problem is either that the aluminum casing is deficient, or, more likely, that the tcm software is flawed. The problem has been confirmed by the local Ford dealership, who took pictures of the damage, including the piece of aluminum. Judging from internet search results for the dtcs, the problem is widespread and triggered by a low battery or weak (high impedance) ground condition in the tcm. No warning lights or low battery indications were shown prior to the incident.

39 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/12/2024

I have two recalls on my Ford Focus 2014. Ford refuses to fix the tcm due to the transmission shifts. I brought my car in with issues dealing with the TSB revolving around the engine wiring harness and told them my car battery died and it couldn't reverse now brought it to get the work done which I thought included them looking at why it could not reverse I paid them over 1,300 dollars to fix this issues and then after I pull off and notice my check engine light is still on I bring it back inside and they hit me with OH the transmission needs a diagnostic after I paid them a substantial amount I want them to give me my money back.

43 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/20/2024

The transmission control module (tcm) failed while driving. The car's engine began revving at high rpm while not accelerating and forcing the vehicle to slow down, creating a dangerous driving environment as I tried to get the car to a repair facility. An error message appeared stating that there was a transmission error and to get the vehicle serviced. This is the 5th time that the tcm has been replaced in this car. This car is 11 years old with approximately 60,000 miles. This is the first time it failed while driving. Typically, other symptoms prompt me to take it in. This time, I had no warning other than the message at the time of failure while I was driving in heavy traffic on a highway (speed limit was 55 mph). I somehow got the vehicle to a Ford dealership which diagnosed the problem as a failed tcm.

45 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

Parts replaced, according to 2019 r/o from Ford dealer: clutch assembly parts needed for replacement, according to r/o from Ford dealer: clutch, clutch forks x2, clutch bearing, clutch hardware, 1 qt of transmission oil available for inspection, however it is getting diagnosed with possible proceeding of replacement at an independent service provider. I experienced gear slippage, resulting in high rpms and no gaining of speed while driving on an on ramp onto a 65 mph limit freeway, which my vehicle then maxed out at 50 mph. Following this, the transmission did not engage into reverse when shifted from within the car. Yes, I had the work done in 2019 for the 14m02, tcm recall, and the dealer saw that the "clutch assembly" was worn and not performing within the necessary standards. This was covered by my general warranty, not the 14m02 extended warranty. I currently don't have the repair order from the 2019 fix as it's in my car at the independent mechanic, but can be provided. The vehicle will be inspected by an independent service center this week/today. This model has had a known problem of "shuddering" in earlier years, which my personal vehicle does experience from time to time, specifically when stopping and going or going uphill. My engine light did eventually turn on, but with no direct messages, once the vehicle became fully undriveable (not shifting from 1st to 2nd without major kickback and no reverse). Using my personal code reader I received the following dtc codes: p07a5 - transmission friction element "b" stuck on p287a - clutch 'b' stuck engaged.

48 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/19/2024

The car was not picking up speed on the freeway; having issues shifting. Make me stop on the freeway putting me at risk of an accident. I was able to go to the shoulder. On the dashboard, I have a message saying the transmission overheated, wait for 5 minutes. I did wait and the car started again. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was a failure of the module. Ae8z*7z369*fmodule - transmission control. Tr26 tcm - replace/program dps6 this should not happen in a car with only 100k miles. Also, there should be a recall because it is dangerous for the people when the car almost stops in the middle of the freeway.

51 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/06/2024

I am the owner of a 2014 Ford Focus VIN [xxx] . I have had the car into an authorized Ford dealership numerous times. On the 2nd to last visit the transmission control module was replaced at no cost to me. However, since then the transmission has malfunctioned again. It lurches, loses power and stalls. I took it back to the Ford dealer and was told I needed a new transmission. I blame this on the extended length of time it took the Ford motor company to get the tcm and schedule the replacement. Am I entitled to any compensation or a buyback from Ford? what other steps can be taken to resolve my issue? thank you for your time. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

53 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/10/2024

This is for a shuttering clutch. I was not put in an unsafe position. The problem was found by the dealer when the car was in having a tcm replaced. There was no warning lamps or any other indication. I was told from the dealer I purchased the car from that it was an automatic but had a clutch and would feel like a manual transmission when it shifts. The dealer told me there was a consumer satisfaction program 19n08 but it had expired and there is nothing they could do. Ford’s customer care told me the same thing. My car is over the 7 years but has 77,200 miles which is way below the 100,000 to qualify for 19n08. This program only ran from 2019-2020 before it expired. A car like mine has low miles and didn’t see the problem until now but is left out of a known problem because of the short program time frame. Now after only owning the car for 6 months I have to pay approximately $2700 to fix this known problem. This program needs to be opened back up or allow every vehicle with this problem to use the program one time without the time restriction.

54 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/20/2024

Upon purchase of the vehicle in 2018 it has been taken into Ford dealer for multiple issues over the years up until current related to transmission (cvt) and tcm. It has excessive shudder upon acceleration, feels as it will stall suddenly, hesitant upon acceleration, shifting roughly and not shifting at all at times, with and also without a check engine light on. Multiple codes have been read but the tcm has needed a reset every time it’s been taken in. There has been a recall/extended warranty on other Focus and fiesta years due to same issue with tcm, which often times is misdiagnosed due to faulty codes. This has been an ongoing and consistent problem since I’ve owned the vehicle.

60 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/16/2024

Stopped to get gas. Turned off engine. After filling up gas tank, car would not start, or crank/turn over. No check engine light has been on, no warning lights. Disconnected battery for about fifteen min. Car started up. Took it to shop, they changed out the evap purge system. It failed when they tested it so they changed that out. Car did not stall when they test drove it. Car stalled two more times. Once when accelerating from a red light, and second time when just sitting in idle. Car just shuts itself off but the radio stays on. This is such a safety hazard because of the fact that not only does it stall in the middle of me driving but I’m very lucky I didn’t get rear ended or t boned because of this. So I thought this issue was fixed but obviously not. After the last time it stalled after getting it fixed, I then had it towed to a Ford dealership. I know this has been a recall on other Ford Focuses. For some reason not mine which is a 2015 Focus. Last year I had to have the tcm fixed which was a recall so that was free however then they tell me that my clutch went bad at 60k miles? I shelled out almost $3k for that nonsense. Now this stalling it constantly day after day at 75k miles? thanks a lot Ford. Take your piece of crap back and issue this a recall. Either way it’s Ford’s fault and should pay for this safety issue for free.

65 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/15/2024

What happened? I purchased a 2015 Ford Focus from carvana in November 2022 with about 70,000 miles on it. Since then, the vehicle has experienced numerous and severe mechanical failures. The engine mount and transmission mount have both failed and required replacement. Additionally, the rotors, transmission control module (tcm), and clutch have all needed to be replaced, with the clutch failing five times throughout the car's history. Despite extensive repairs costing upwards of $7,000, the issues persist. Most recently, the vehicle was subsequently towed to a Ford dealership after replacing the clutch for the 6th time in vehicle history. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the components that failed include the engine mount, transmission mount, rotors, transmission control module (tcm), clutch, and evap purge system. These components are available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the frequent mechanical failures and replacements, particularly of critical components like the tcm and clutch, have compromised the reliability and safety of the vehicle, posing a significant risk during operation. The vehicle's tendency to stall while driving or idling increases the risk of accidents, potentially leading to rear-end or t-bone collisions. Yes, the problems have been confirmed and addressed by both a dealer and independent service centers. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the vehicle has been inspected by independent service centers and possibly by the dealer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, there were no check engine lights or warning lights prior to the failures. The issues began appearing shortly after the purchase in November 2022.

66 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/13/2024

The automatic transmission lurches when shifting in any forward gear, most times will not shift at all past 15 mph (engine rpm will red-line), and will not engage the reverse gear at all. When attempting to drive the vehicle, a dashboard warning indicates that the transmission is overheating and the vehicle should be pulled over. The transmission control module was replaced at a Ford dealership in 2020 due to inconsistent shifting of the transmission. Based on the build date of my vehicle, Ford is telling me that it is not covered under their current customer satisfaction program 14m02 - supplement #7. This program describes the very problem my vehicle is experiencing, as the dealership told me their diagnostics indicates the need to replace the tcm (again)!.

67 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/11/2024

Ford has a csp for the transmission control module on this vehicle, which will be replace the tcm. My vehicle had a tcm replaced in 2016, but it has still caused the transmission to prematurely fail. I am currently being quoted nearly $4,000 to replace the clutch pack/transmission in my vehicle, even though there were zero issues. My vehicle is currently at a Ford dealership and they are saying that they will replace the tcm, but I am responsible for the rest of the repairs that were caused by the faulty tcm. How can they be only responsible for replacing the easy repair, while completely ignoring the thousands of dollars of damages that were caused by this faulty component?.
