36 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/18/2025

My vehicle has had 3 evap canister valve recall repairs since 2021, I purchased my 2018 Ford Focus titanium brand new in January 2019. I have all receipts. I recently had the 3rd evap canister valve repair January 15,2025. My vehicle had pending codes p144a and p1450 which would have prevented it from passing texas emmissions. My vehicle has also had a transmission control module recall repair -tcm twice, once in 2022 and 2023. My car has had intermitten stalling in the middle of a intersection due to this recall putting me at risk for an accident. My vehicle currently has a pending code p2867 which is the tcm code. I have aaa tow truck history of my vehicle being towed to classic Ford for these repeat repairs. I have taken my car to classic Ford several times in galveston, TX in which they have not successfully repaired these recalls. Which has turned into repeat repairs. Invoices to prove it. Cook Ford in texas city recently repaired the 3rd evap canister valve on January 15, 2025 in which they also found the faulty code for the transmission control module. This is a serious concern.

37 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2015 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/13/2025

The powershift dual clutch automatic in the 2015 Ford Focus is faulty. This issue has caused my car to stutter since purchase. Even after utilizing the warranty regarding the tcm (customer satisfaction program 14m02 - supplement #5) and doing all all preventative maintenance per Fords recommendation throughout the entire cars life (new batteries, oil changes, fluid flushes, etc. ) the car has always failed to operate correctly. Now, at 89,991 miles, my service light is on and my car is stuttering to the point where is is dangerous to drive do to intense lagging between shifts and unpredictable rpms. Ford diagnosed the issue as "tcm followed pin point test states to inspect clutch and shift forks. " Ford denied coverage under warranty, recall, or class action lawsuit ([xxx] v. Ford motor company, c. D. Cal. Case no. [xxx]) I was required to pay a $175 fee for diagnosis and was quoted $3,888 additional to fix the problem. I denied service. 40 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/09/2025

I am submitting this complaint because Ford motor company is refusing to honor its customer satisfaction program 14m02, which extends warranty coverage on the transmission control module (tcm) for certain 2012–2016 Ford Focus vehicles. The 14m02 program extends tcm coverage to 10 years or 150,000 miles from the original warranty start date, and according to updates from Ford, offers a on updates from Ford, offers a one-time repair for tcm failure through June 30, 2025, regardless of mileage or vehicle age. My vehicle experienced issues delayed shifting, transmission failure, or loss of which I have been told is caused by the faulty tcm covered under this program. However, both Ford and the dealership have refused the repair, claiming the program does not apply—despite my vehicle falling within the described criteria. I have found the official 14m02 program bulletin online (e. G. , via tsbsearch. Com) and spoken to other owners who have successfully received the repair. I believe Ford is failing to uphold its please investigate Ford’s refusal to honor the tcm extended warranty under program 14m02 and help ensure affected owners receive the repairs they were promised, especially prior to the June 30, 2025 deadline public warranty commitments, potentially putting drivers at risk due to sudden transmission failure. The company’s inconsistent handling of these repairs raises serious concerns about fairness, accountability, and public safety. Ford has failed to properly diagnose the issue and misled me regarding the coverage of the tcm under the 14m02 warranty. Despite having paid for diagnostics and extensive repairs, my vehicle continues to have the same problems, which should be covered by the 14m02 warranty, and Ford refuses to address the underlying tcm issue. This not only causes significant financial hardship but also leaves me with an unsafe and unreliable vehicle.

42 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/16/2024

My 2018 Ford Focus started having transmission issues over 2 years ago. I took my car into a Ford dealership who reassured me that my car was fine and that my transmission was in fact not slipping. I continued to drive my vehicle while feeling the transmission slipping telling myself Ford told me this is normal it's fine. Cut to 2 years later. It is not fine. My entire transmission needs replaced. My tcm was not working properly which in turn ruined my reverse gear and caused internal damage to the transmission, resulting in a recommended replacement of the transmission. My car is only 5 years old with about 45,000 mi on it. I drive about half as much as the average american driver per year. My car had a hard acceleration so it was hard to enter traffic from a stop. Many times I was making a turn into traffic and felt like I might get hit by another car because I couldn't get into traffic fast enough. The jerking and slipping of the transmission caused constant fear of the car not performing as it should so to ensure everyone's safety, I would only make turns or go when there was absolutely no traffic. It also caused fear when my car wouldn't accelerate so I use more pressure on the gas pedal and then suddenly my car would lurch forward faster than expected. My check engine light did light up a few weeks prior to my transmission going out but the code was for the fuel pump purge valve. Again, the issue started in April of 2022 and the Ford dealership told me there was nothing wrong with the transmission even though there was. My transmission is experiencing many of the same things others experienced which is why this transmission was recalled. Unfortunately my particular VIN number was not.

48 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/18/2024

While changing a dead battery, the vehicle's transmission control module (tcm) malfunctioned and caused the shift drum to shear off a piece of the aluminum casing inside the gearbox. Dtc codes p2837 and p287b were present indicating a shift fork failure. The dual-clutch transmission (dps6) lost access to reverse, 2nd gear and 4th and 6th gear, but was still able to shift into 1st, 3rd and 5th. Under these conditions, there is the possibility that the sheared off piece of aluminum can enter the gear train and cause the transmission to seize, putting passengers life at risk. The problem is either that the aluminum casing is deficient, or, more likely, that the tcm software is flawed. The problem has been confirmed by the local Ford dealership, who took pictures of the damage, including the piece of aluminum. Judging from internet search results for the dtcs, the problem is widespread and triggered by a low battery or weak (high impedance) ground condition in the tcm. No warning lights or low battery indications were shown prior to the incident.

Failure Date: 08/20/2024

The transmission control module (tcm) failed while driving. The car's engine began revving at high rpm while not accelerating and forcing the vehicle to slow down, creating a dangerous driving environment as I tried to get the car to a repair facility. An error message appeared stating that there was a transmission error and to get the vehicle serviced. This is the 5th time that the tcm has been replaced in this car. This car is 11 years old with approximately 60,000 miles. This is the first time it failed while driving. Typically, other symptoms prompt me to take it in. This time, I had no warning other than the message at the time of failure while I was driving in heavy traffic on a highway (speed limit was 55 mph). I somehow got the vehicle to a Ford dealership which diagnosed the problem as a failed tcm.

Parts replaced, according to 2019 r/o from Ford dealer: clutch assembly parts needed for replacement, according to r/o from Ford dealer: clutch, clutch forks x2, clutch bearing, clutch hardware, 1 qt of transmission oil available for inspection, however it is getting diagnosed with possible proceeding of replacement at an independent service provider. I experienced gear slippage, resulting in high rpms and no gaining of speed while driving on an on ramp onto a 65 mph limit freeway, which my vehicle then maxed out at 50 mph. Following this, the transmission did not engage into reverse when shifted from within the car. Yes, I had the work done in 2019 for the 14m02, tcm recall, and the dealer saw that the "clutch assembly" was worn and not performing within the necessary standards. This was covered by my general warranty, not the 14m02 extended warranty. I currently don't have the repair order from the 2019 fix as it's in my car at the independent mechanic, but can be provided. The vehicle will be inspected by an independent service center this week/today. This model has had a known problem of "shuddering" in earlier years, which my personal vehicle does experience from time to time, specifically when stopping and going or going uphill. My engine light did eventually turn on, but with no direct messages, once the vehicle became fully undriveable (not shifting from 1st to 2nd without major kickback and no reverse). Using my personal code reader I received the following dtc codes: p07a5 - transmission friction element "b" stuck on p287a - clutch 'b' stuck engaged.

63 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/10/2024

This is for a shuttering clutch. I was not put in an unsafe position. The problem was found by the dealer when the car was in having a tcm replaced. There was no warning lamps or any other indication. I was told from the dealer I purchased the car from that it was an automatic but had a clutch and would feel like a manual transmission when it shifts. The dealer told me there was a consumer satisfaction program 19n08 but it had expired and there is nothing they could do. Ford’s customer care told me the same thing. My car is over the 7 years but has 77,200 miles which is way below the 100,000 to qualify for 19n08. This program only ran from 2019-2020 before it expired. A car like mine has low miles and didn’t see the problem until now but is left out of a known problem because of the short program time frame. Now after only owning the car for 6 months I have to pay approximately $2700 to fix this known problem. This program needs to be opened back up or allow every vehicle with this problem to use the program one time without the time restriction.

65 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/20/2024

Upon purchase of the vehicle in 2018 it has been taken into Ford dealer for multiple issues over the years up until current related to transmission (cvt) and tcm. It has excessive shudder upon acceleration, feels as it will stall suddenly, hesitant upon acceleration, shifting roughly and not shifting at all at times, with and also without a check engine light on. Multiple codes have been read but the tcm has needed a reset every time it’s been taken in. There has been a recall/extended warranty on other Focus and fiesta years due to same issue with tcm, which often times is misdiagnosed due to faulty codes. This has been an ongoing and consistent problem since I’ve owned the vehicle.
