1 Engine Engine Control Module (ecu/ecm) problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to autozone where a diagnostic test was performed and produced codes: p1450, p0456 indicating (ecm fault) however, the contact stated that the purge valve failed and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that vehicle was previously repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.

2 Engine Engine Control Module (ecu/ecm) problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated. Additionally, while depressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the check engine and transmission warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road. The contact stated that an independent mechanic was called out to the location to reset the ecu module to be able to drive to dealer. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the pcm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired; however, there was also a pending repair for an unknown recall. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. The VIN was not available.

3 Engine Engine Control Module (ecu/ecm) problem of the 2010 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/02/2012

The contact mother owns a 2010 Ford Focus. The contact stated her mother was pulling into a parking lot when the driver depressed on the brake pedal the vehicle suddenly accelerated on it's own and crash into a satellite pole. The driver did not sustain any injuries, and no medical treatment was needed. No police report was filed. The vehicle did not sustain any damages, the air bags did not deployed. No warning lights illuminated on the vehicle. The driver was able to reverse the vehicle and parked the vehicle into the parking spot, however the contact stated this failure has reoccurred sporadically several times after. The driver took the vehicle to a local dealer to have the vehicle inspected, however the dealer was not able to duplicate the failure. A few months later and the failure reoccurred again and the driver took the vehicle back to the dealer where the dealer repaired and replaced the throttle body control module on the vehicle, but the failure persisted after the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
