I bought this car less than 6 mos. Ago. It has had 2 recalls so far. The transmission has a problem. It jumps and acts like it is going to die. Twice when I have started it there was a knocking like the engine had something wrong. When I changed the gear the knocking quit. When I run the heater there is a burning smell. I took it in and told them I was afraid to drive it and they did the recalls then told me they couldn't make it do the other things I had mentioned. I ask them to put me in something else and they said I would have to pay $400. 00-$500. 00 a month payment. I believe Ford knew of this problem but continues to sell them so when people complain they can charge them more money. I am a 55 year old woman that drives 120 miles a day back and forth to work. When I get off work I drive home in the dark. I am afraid to drive this car!!! Ford won't do anything about it! someone is going to get killed in this car because of the engine hesitation. I picked it up and now it is worse! when I turn the corner it does that jerking thing now like it is going to die. I hope you can help protect consumers . The jerking happens when you are driving, taking off and now even when you are turning. The knocking noise the first time was when I was backing up and the second time was when it was in park and I had just started it.

I got into my car after work and noticed the check engine light on, as I left the parking lot of my job and headed towards the freeway which is across the street, my car would not accelerate . I could only reach speeds of 40 mph and the car began to shake and I could hear knocking sounds coming from the engine. I exited the freeway and took streets home, after about 30 minutes the shaking stopped and I was able to pick up speed but the engine light remained on. The very next day there was no engine light on and the car ran smoothly but on the third day as I got in my car once again the engine light was on, and as soon as I pulled out of my driveway, the car started shaking and this time I could only get the car to reach 20 mph which was once again accompanied by loud rattling and knocking coming from the engine. The engine sounds like it trying to accelerate but the car just doesn't pick up speed.

When shifting the car from first to second, a very loud banging sound was heard. Checked online for similar problems and found that Ford had issued a TSB for this problem on June 10, 2013. Went back to the dealer and informed they of my problem and the TSB. Was told that they would have to experience the problem before they would order parts. Had to make an appointment for them to drive the car and leave it an entire4 day. Went back July 18, 2013. Dealer had a tech drive the car, and yes, there was a problem. Parts ordered. After waiting weeks, was told that there is a nationwide backorder on parts. After hitting 3000 miles, started to have severe steering issues. When shifting into second or third under acceleration, the would almost make a right turn. And then when accelerating in second and third, the steering wheel would vibrate so bad I had to hang on for dear life. Back to the dealer. They made a call to Ford engineering who said that new mounts would fix the steering issues. In August, I started calling heather at Ford customer service. Explained about the backorder and my steering issues. Told her I was afraid to drive the car. She said she would try to expedite the parts. After weeks of no results, talked to her about me buying aftermarket mounts that are available. She said Ford would not autherize anything but Ford parts. I said that would be acceptable if Ford would come up with the parts. I am now being told that parts might be here in October. Word on the web is that delivery will most likely be November or next year. Finallly broke down and bought my own mounts at a cost of $369. My safety is worth that much. I will try to get my money back from Ford, waited 9000 miles for them to fix it.

2003 Ford Focus, early morning squeaking, mid day, vibrating, late afternoon, car starts to shake excessively and as I drive into my driveway a really loud banging noise comes from the front of the car, so loud it scared me, I turned the car off and open the hood of the car and notice that the metal mounts that hold the engine broke in half and a piece was still on the motor. My engine was hanging from the left side, you could see it from the bottom of the vehicle. My insurance company comes out to check the damages and said in his 22 years of viewing vehicles for claims he's never seen anything like this. My mileage is 59,528, I'm still paying for this car, until 2012. This should not have happened to a six year old car with this little mileage. I called Ford to check if there was a recall on this situation. I was told no. I went on the internet to search for complaints regarding 2003 Ford Focus, found many complaints of many things wrong with this vehicle and several regarding the vibrating of the front of the vehicle relating to motor mount problems. I had the vehicle towed to a repair shop and was told that this incident created a problem with the axel as well. This is going to cost me a lot of money. Waiting for an estimate of repairs on 5/9/09.

While accelerating on highway, engine and oil light came on; engine began making knocking noise. Pulled car over. Ford dealership stated engine failure due to inproper maintenance. Oil changed according to maintenance schedule -- do not have evidence because it was done by husband. Vehicle only has 60k miles.
