1 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/20/2019

The engine stalled once on August 20th, 2019 while driving on the interstate. Each time that I fill the tank with fuel I have to try 2-3 times to start engine as it makes a noise as if I'm completely out of fuel though it's a full tank and I'm still at the pump. Ford dealership stated to me this is "normal" for all cars though I've never dealt with this and at 39 I've had several cars.

3 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

Ford Focus, hesitating when driving, engine stopped while driving and the engine restarted. Over period of time, heard strange noises like a loud boom while driving. Happens only when gas level is around half tank. Dealer says there is no recall on the VIN. Cut off happened after making a turn also the boom noise. Hesitation usually on slight uphill. Dealer said they will check with Ford company about this. I'm actually afraid to drive it anymore, it could cause an accident.

4 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/28/2018

Well have had nothing but problems with this car, but here is the latest. I was driving and the car started making noises and then it sputted like going to die out, and get really rough driving. I parked the car got to work, and when leaving it would not start. Battery is new, so not that. After about 4 tries it started up, this was wed. Then Friday, and on way home the engine light came on, as well as had issue starting. I just received this letter today, how odd and confirmed that there is a problem and not my imagination. I have grandchildren that I pick up from school and day care, and will not subject them to this unsafe car. Also, last week the gas gauge just went to 50 and it binged to let me know, I drove to the gas station nearby, and I rolled in. . Now see that gauge is also or could be wrong. . I am bringing it in and hoping you put me in a rental until this is fixed!~.

6 Engine Noise problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

As I was on my way to work driving on the freeway going 67mph on cruise control I was in the 2nd lane in from the right . I felt something bumpy underneath my feet and as I lowered my radio I heard a scraping sound and then it felt like something went underneath my tires and I heard when it pulled and broke the front grill made me swerve thank god no accident. As I was pulling to the right it felt like I was dragging the panel and parts of my bumper. Sure enough the underneath panel came off and that's what created the whole body damage.

7 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/29/2018

Our well maintained 4 year old fusion with 1. 6l ecoboost, started making noise, engine completely died while driving on city street, smoke came pouring out. Ford determined crack in engine by cylinder head to be the cause. Ford informed us our vehicle was not involved in a recall, and over warranty miles (80k). We have researched and learned of the 1. 6l ecoboost engine recalls because of risk of cracked cylinder head/engine. Our local sm told us Ford was likely to cover all but $700 of the repair, then the next day informed us Ford would only agree to pay 1400 toward new engine, with us responsible for the remaining cost. Ford refused covering our rental. We have been without the vehicle for nearly 3 weeks now.

10 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/04/2017

Transmission failure. I've had the clutch strum replaced six times, most recently my car experienced a transmission electrical and actual failure without warning. I was unable to move on a highway bridge. It has been having shifting issues since I got it and makes a noise and stutters, usually between first and second gear but also in other instances. This has been an ongoing issue.

11 Engine Noise problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/26/2017

When I first bought the car it started making noise when I drove it I took it in they said they fixed the problems it was still under warranty. After a couple of weeks it started making the same noises so when I had time a couple of months later I took it in again and they told me it was the transmission and that my warranty was not active anymore. It made the same noises the first time I took it in and they never said it was the transmission it was a wheel problem. I'm asking for help on what to do thanks.

12 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

My 2012 Ford Focus has been really messing up lately. After having it reprogramed since it was shuttering and such. . . On 3 occasions this car has completely fallen out of gear, twice while I am going full speed at approx 50 - 55 miles/hour. The display begins flashing and then complete loss of acceleration. I have had to coast into a turn and turn off the engine and then turn it back on and it would go back into gear and everything would be fine. The first time this happened I called the Ford dealership in my town and spoke to them about this and asked them to look into why my engine would loose power completely and he said that he would look into it and never returned my call. On the second event the drive indicator d flashed and the engine light came on and complete loss of acceleration (50-55mph) and then I coast to a turn and shut off the engine and turn it back on and am able to put it into drive but this time the check engine light stayed on. I call the Ford dealership and they have me bring it in and they look at it and discover it needs a new tcm so they order the part and then I take the car home. The next day I am in town shopping and I turn into a parking place and while I am in the process my car makes a clinking, screeching sound and then acts like it has fallen back out of gear again! this time it does not go back into gear so I call the dealership and they have it towed to them and then the tcm was put into it. I am now actually scared of driving this car. So, I have had the car reprogramed once. . . 3 complete gear failures. . . New tcm. . . We need Ford to buy back this car it is dangerous!!!.

13 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

The vehicle shudders and makes noise when shifting gears. When accelerating at around 15mph, the vehicle bogs down and lacks power. Engine oil leaks also.

14 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/19/2012

Like most of the complaints on this vehicle my Focus hesitates and stutters. There was also a fluttering noise in the front end while the car was off that happened right away after purchasing. I took back to the dealership a week later and was told that the noise was normal and that the stuttering was due to the smaller engine. Finally took the car back in because it was getting worse, and this time the throttle body was reprogrammed (which I was originally told was completely replaced, but wasn't the case) come to find out this a common issue in Ford vehicles but no recall issued, just part of the NHTSA customer satisfaction program. Many of the models in this program were issued a extended warranty, but not the Focus. I was informed by the dealership I will be financially responsible for a new throttle body if it starts again once my warranty is up. Not sure why this is okay to continue with new Ford models when it was first addressed in 2012, and why I'm responsible to pay to fix a problem that is the makers error of which they have been made aware of.

15 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/28/2012

On 8/27/2012 I drove off the car lot with 7 miles on my new car. I noticed a little bit of rough shifting as the day passed. On 8/28 the car started bucking and jerking during acceleration. There was little power on inclines. The problem progressively got worse through the day. I set up an appointment to drop off for service the next day. Took in for service on 8/29 and was told that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The car had 187 miles on it. On 8/30 I was told the car was fixed and I picked up my car. Within a few miles the problem was back, but worse this time. I had some slight noise coming from the engine when the car was bucking and jerking. It almost stalled on a busy highway in rush hour traffic several times while on my way back to the dealer. It was struggling. The car is back in service with 220 miles on it. Now they want to keep it for at least 3-4 days. 8/31 I was asked to drive the car with the mechanic to see if problem would reoccur. With the exception of a kick while pulling out of the dealership, the car drove ok, although we only drove around a block together. Sales manager says that if the mechanic can't find any further problem, then I have to take the car back into my possession since it's my car. He says that sometimes things happen and I have to deal with it and let the mechanics do their job. I've had the car in my possession under 30 hours since I purchased it on 8/27. The car also has an issue with rolling back on an incline.

16 Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 08/27/2012

My issues with this car started the day I drove it off the lot and have not stopped. There was an issue with the fan that made my engine sound like it was chewing rocks whenever the air/heat was on - this has been fixed. I bought the car brand new and from day one it has been grinding, shuddering and not shifting smoothly. I've had issues with the rpm's skyrocketing when I'm slowing down and the rpm's skyrocketing when I'm trying to accelerate but the car isn't moving. I've had the car feel like it's completely lost power while in stop and go traffic then "wake up" and lurch forward. . . My transmission has been replaced once, my clutch replaced twice. Once I've been told it's a figment of my imagination and once I was told that I need to learn how to drive the car. The clutch I have now is the same one being used in the 2015 Focus's, and though it's "better", it's still off. . . It's just off so sporadically that I can't bring it in because I don't want to be told it's all in my head again. This car is not safe. It is not a car that I'm comfortable passing on to my child when she starts driving next year and it's not a car that I would drive day to day if I had to drive rush hour traffic. It's too bad, too, because the design of the car is wonderful - it's comfortable, it's got the right set up, but the most important part of the vehicle is dangerous and doesn't operate properly.

17 Engine Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 03/12/2009

On 3/12/09, while driving my 2002 Ford Focus se wagon on main street (ri-3) in ashaway, rhode island, at about 35 mph, hit a small bump with the right front wheel. A loud scraping noise immediately ensued. Was able to stop within a few feet. Inspection revealed that both mounting studs on the passenger side engine mount for the transversely mounted engine had broken off allowing the engine to drop down onto the passenger side drive axle. The car was flatbed towed 5 miles to my mechanic. His inspection showed that one of the studs had been broken for some time, while the second showed a fresh break. There was no evidence of corrosion, or that the studs had ever been removed and replaced. I don't know how often this failure occurs, but the tow operator and both mechanics at the shop had never seen this happen before. The consequences are that the car becomes inoperable without causing severe damage. The result at highway speed could have been disastrous. The failure was corrected by replacing the broken studs with new factory parts. I have the two broken studs in my possession.

19 Engine Noise problem of the 2003 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 11/15/2003

. The national highway traffic safety administration. On October 31 of 2003, I purchased Ford Focus se, brand new. . For five month I own this vehicle, I was in the shop for all kind different problems 9 times. It was: constant very strong vibration while driving at any speed, constant grounding noise comes from engine site and transformed to an ultrasound noise at hire speed, the squealing has intensified and sounds horrible! transmission locked up while I drove on the highway at 70 mph, had to use tow track. ( dealer sad they cannot duplicate the problem ) ,but transmission still locks and jerking constantly, squeal noise from breaks, (dealer replaced front pads and resurface drum, but refused to repair rear breaks and noise and pulsation is still there. , dealer found defective rims, defective tires, throttle problems, brakes problems. Problems with my car intensified. I got my cruse control accelerated by it self in the middle of a highway, transmission locks up and jerking intermittently, brakes squealing and pulsate the Ford dealer sales and service people said that I should not return for service and waist any bodys time, he said that what I hear and fill in my Ford Focus is normal . Ford warranty is not worth a paper it is written on. So, Ford wont fix my car and I cannot do it other wise. As a result of strong vibration and squealing noise I am loosing balance, have severe headache, all body eking, I have pain in booth of my arms, and I have difficulty to walk and my right leg become num. I have to use walking cane and knee and ankle support. I scared to even drive it anymore. I am pleading to you, to help . Me to get a full refund from Ford motor company for its defective product, plus a compensation for all expenses incurred as a result of this ordeal.

Failure Date: 03/11/2002

Brakes have squealed fron about 1500 miles. Have had pads replaced, but squeals did not go away. Front brakes grind, at shop now. In November 2001 had to have struts replaced while having recall work done. Struts little over a year old. Engine makes a chirping noise at about 1000-2500 rpm, but dealer unable to duplicate. Also squeals or whines when making right turns. Windshield cracked when a small stone hit it. Will have insurance replace. Overall, not happy with car. Been in the shop three times in the last year!!.
