After multiple issues \recalls with the transmission the car still is not running right. It takes sometime for the vehicle to start and once it does it shudders on acceleration. Now I am being told both the fuel pump and the clutch need to be replaced. Based on everything I am reading there are quite a few faulty parts in these vehicles that should be recalled.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving, the fuel gauge dropped quickly without warning even when the vehicle had a full tank of fuel. The vehicle was taken to darcars Ford lanham (located at 9020 lanham severn rd, lanham, MD 20706, (301) 459-1100) where it was diagnosed, but a failure could not be found. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel canister seized, which damaged the fuel pump and caused the fuel tank to implode. Both components needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,166.
I have this error code from a obd-2 code reader from autozone. Dealership didn't give me any feesback on the check engine issue when I had it in for a fuel tank issue. Error code is u0109 lost communication with fuel pump control module (fpcm) the car sat in the driveway all summer long with a full fuel tank of gasoline. The check engine light for that issue came on shortly after I started driving the Ford Focus again. . Read more...

Vehicle would stall out when coming to a stop at red lights, stop signs or hesitate when starting to go. The vehicle would also lose power during normal operation and if it stalled out it would take a few minutes or longer to start, causing traffic issues. Fuel gauge would read 3/4 of a tank and be empty. Took to dealership several times and had computer reset to fix issue but did not fix it. Then another dealership advised they had another Focus with the same issue and had to replace fuel tank, purge valve and fuel pump because the fuel tank had collapsed inward. They checked the fuel tank on my Focus and it had also collapsed inward. Had fuel tank, purge valve and fuel pump replaced and now it runs like it should and gauges work. Was advised that this issue causes the vehicle to into limp mode which causes car to stall. This repair cost me $1586. 02! this is a very serious issue and a hazard to the occupants. This issue has been going on for about the last 4 years and it took this long to discover what was causing it. I've had the vehicle for 5 years now.
Bought this vehicle used in may 2017. The previous owner just had the fuel pump replaced which cost him $700. 00. Had it one week and it ran out of gas, which according to the gauges, I should have had plenty of gas. My son came and put gas in and he looked underneath and noticed that my gas tank was "dented in. " I just assumed the previous owner had hit something and never gave it another thought. Well in the past few months the "miles to empty gauge" is not accurate and I ran out of gas again when it said I had 70 plus miles to empty and now the gas gauge is incorrect with fluctuations from a quarter to three quarters full. Im now at the point where I have to set my trip meter to gauge when I am close to empty. I only have 80,000 miles and am out of warranty. This should be something that Ford fixes since it is obviously an ongoing problem. They issued a recall for the fusions for the exact same issue, but not the Focus?? from what I have been told, Ford only issues recalls if the government forces them too!! this fix on this car will cost me $3000. !!!!.

My 2014 Ford Focus was sold with a defective evaporation emission control (evap) system. Because of the defect, raw fuel can be sucked through the evap canister through the purge valve directly into the engine, causing the car to stall or hesitate while driving, which can be extremely dangerous to drivers and pedestrians. My car is a 2014 and has approx. 27k miles on it. I now will have to pay $1960 in repairs to replace the evap purge valve, the fuel tank, the fuel pump, and the fuel sending unit, which have all been damaged as a result of the valve failure. I have seen numerous identical complaints on carcomplaints. Com and the NHTSA government website, including complaints that people could have been seriously harmed, as they lost control of their vehicle on highway or major road. There was a lawsuit in 2017 (jon rivera, et. Al. , v. Ford motor company) but Ford won and the defect was not considered a recall. I believe Ford should take responsibility for manufacturing a faulty part and putting consumers in danger that they may not realize. Ford should absorb the costs that are resulting from the failure of defective parts in relatively new cars.
Tl-the contact owns 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the fuel tank colapsed. The contact stated that the fuel pump was crushed and in result of all this the vehicle stalled often. The vehicle shuts off while driving and takes several attempts to restart the engine. The check engine light did illuminate. The vehicle was not towed. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the vehicle was diagnossed and they were informed that the fuel pump was crushed due to a colpsed fuel tank. The vehicle will be repaired at the local mechanic. The manufacturer was informed, however nothing was done. The failure mileage was 117,000. The failure was not due to recall. Jw.
"purge valve"-my vehicle was taken into red mccombs Ford due to a p0420 code which is a problem with the catalytic converter. Before the engine light came on, I had not had any performance issues or noticed any problems while driving or idling on any type of road. The car has 79,479 miles and the converter would be covered under the factory warranty. I was told that the converter went out because the purge valve got stuck open which caused severe damage to the fuel tank and fuel pump and that they would not replace the converter until I paid $1,900 to get the other problems fixed. I did not have the money to get the other problems fixed before the factory warranty expired, therefore I will need to pay an additional $1,700 to have the converter replaced once the warranty expires. I was told that the problems with my car could cause it to lose power and leave me stranded on the road. I am concerned that, other than the engine light turning on because of the converter, I would not have known anything was wrong with the car until it could have died on me in the middle of the freeway. I have had so many problems with this vehicle and by the looks of the complaints on NHTSA, there will be many more serious problems to look forward to. I do not feel safe in this vehicle and Ford has done nothing to fix these problems. I am hoping to sell it back to them this weekend. I will never by Ford again.
The rpms on my vehicle kept falling and causing my car to stall and even die in traffic. I took it to a mechanic who told me that there was a problem with my evap sensor, fuel pump and gas tank. The sensor and gas pump are malfunctioning and causing the problem and sucking the plastic gas tank up and into the pump causing my car to die while in traffic. I was driving on a major highway doing 65mph the other day and this happened causing extreme anxiety about the possibility of being rear ended by someone not paying attention. I have looked this up and I am not the only Focus owner with this problem. This problem has been happening off and on for about a year and is starting to happen morevoften and getting more severe.
While driving down interstate 75 south at 70 miles per hour, car set on cruise control, the car lurch forward. When trying to resume speed the gas pedal did not respond coasted through a lane of traffic to the side of the road where the car died. Unable to restart the vehicle was towed to the nearest Ford dealership matthew curry in nokomis. After three days of sitting Ford decided to look at the car and quickly determined the problem was a purge valve sticking causing a vacuum in the gas tank which caused the tank to collapse and damage the fuel pump. It was easy to recognize because they have seen this same situation many times on the Focus model. A documented recalll has occurred in australia and new zealand over this very same issue Ford a us manufactured car yet no recall in the us. I can find more than 100 reports online regarding this same situation in the us but Ford will not take any responsibility. I have spoke to corporate where they issued a case/claim # 14636968. They then advise me to call the service manager who says he sent everything to corporate then given the run around. I have called Chevrolet and Honda they don't seem to have a problem with gas tanks collapsing. Ford step up and take responsibility for this faulty system. I am grateful we are safe this malfunction while driving 70 on a busy florida interstate during rush hour could have ended much differently. . Ridiculous flawed product.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. When the contact attempted to drive the vehicle, the check engine warning indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to hawkeye Ford (2027 us-34, red oak, IA 51566) where it was diagnosed with failure codes p144a and p0456. The codes indicated that the evap, purge vent, vent valve, fuel tank, and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Y 2012 Ford Focus needs a new fuel tank, fuel pump, purge valve and canister per TSB 16-0062. It's because the purge valve was malfunctioning and has collapsed my gas tank (plastic) and I needed to replace the fuel pump, gas tank, fuel tube assembly. All cost $1350. 00. Many others have this problem but it appears that there is no recall on this. This is something that should be addressed as a recall, not an "eff" you to the customer that has to deal w/ a known issue to Ford. When stopped, the vehicle would idle rough. The engine actually died on my daughter who was driving in traffic this past Sunday one of the highways in la. The check engine light came on w/ code p1450. Then the fuel gauge became highly inaccurate, showing a full tank of fuel when I may be at half or lower. Called aaa, my daughter got herself out of the dangerous situation, now my car is being repaired, I have no choice. This is frustrating to see how Ford can get away with this issue - one that seems to be quite serious with many other Ford Focus 2012 owners: https://www. Google. "Ford purge valve" my 2012 Ford Focus was incorrectly diagnosed at longmont Ford for a p0420 fault code. My complaint was a rough idle at times, vehicle dies at times when coming to a stop. (did not state low power at all times nor any engine heating issues) longmont Ford stated a a back-pressure test was performed on the exhaust and the catalytic converter was plugged per dtc p0420. Fortunately I did not have the $1700+ dollar repair performed and looked for additional diagnosis. (no specifications given by longmont Ford to condemn catalytic converter) additional diagnosis found the evap canister purge valve stuck open - note: found Ford has known issues with this valve and at the time of attempting to obtain one for replacement was told they are on national backorder. I believe this known faulty component is a safety issue due to two reasons. 1) can cause vehicle to die in traffic 2) also known to suck the fuel tank closed and damage the fuel pump.
This car has electrical issues, the dash and tag lights flicker, the car has been turning off while I'm driving with my son in the car over 3 times now,on the highway and on main street, its so scary I've had panic attacks and got a stress rash on my face. Im so scared that I can't drive it,I've had the fuel pump replaced, spark plugs, motor filter. I just try to keep getting it repaired costing me my bills money being a single parent. I'm overwhelmed and don't know what to do.

Check engine light came on. Codes indicated something wrong with purge valve and small evap leak. While driving at 55+mph on a 6 lane highway, my car stalled and my battery light and oil light illuminated. Before that happened, car would just rev and then jerk me forward. I was almost hit by multiple vehicles. This is a huge safety issue!! I made it to my mechanic where they informed me that my purge valve got stuck open causing the vacuum system to suck my fuel tank it, also causing it to collapse. My fuel tank, fuel pump, charcoal canister, and purge solenoid all needed replacing. Repairs cost me $1700 out of pocket, not to also mention rental car. This was recalled on Ford fusion. . . Why not Focus?! this could have caused serious injuries or fatalities!! I expect reimbursement for all expenses!!!.
We had he check engine light come. A check of the code showed a fuel delivery system problem. We also noticed that when trying to fuel the vehicle when placing the fuel nozzle into the fuel fill a rush of air would escape. After fueling the car would not start. Once we get the car started it would run rough for several miles. Also, the fuel gauge was wrong. The fuel gauge would show 1/2 tank but we ran out of gas. The mechanic had to replace the fuel tank, our mechanic had to replace the fuel tank, purge valve and associated hoses, fuel pump. Also, another problem arose with the instrument cluster. All of the gauges including the radio went blank and would not function. The mechanic had to disconnect the battery and reset the computer for the instruments and radio to begin working again.
The car cuts off in the middle of driving. I took it to a mechanic he said was the fuel pump. I took it for asecond opinion this mechanic said was a module for the fuel pump. He also a car same make and model with the exact same problem. I did am internet search and it was too many cars with this same problem. There should be a recall. My car cut off in the middle of the highway.

Vehicle would suddenly turn off while running. Happened too many times while on the freeway that almost cause accidents, even on street from the stop lights it would just turn off. One is issue is the faulty fuel gauge, it would say that the fuel tank is full but halfway empty or empty. Did some research online and found other owners have the same issue of the vehicle shutting off while running. According to some reports, other owners have had to replaced the fuel tank that was deformed due to the issue of faulty fuel gauge. Other reported of replacing fuel pump, purge valve and or emission canister. I contacted Ford about the issue and it seems like it's something they don't want to talk about but they know there an issue. They won't give me a direct answer to my questions. So far, I have not heard any reports of fatality about this issue but we were close, as recently as yesterday morning when my cousin was driving on the freeway with an 18-wheeler behind him when the car's engine just shuts off. This happens quite a few times. What's worst about this is Ford won't even talk to the owners about this issue. I tried to get some answer from them but they won't say a word. It's frustrating! the car is only 4 years old and under 75k miles, having this issue that would cost thousands of dollars to fix. It's not the owners fault but manufacturer's fault or issue. They need to own up on this problem before some gets killed on the freeway. When is Ford going to step on this? how about NHTSA, what are you going to do about this? we, the owners need answer and we need solution from Ford about this safety issue. While no one is dead yet, now is the time to assess this problem. Nhtsa, please help us fix this problem.
Noticed fuel gauge inaccurate, miles to empty inaccurate, engine cutting out while coasting to stop, feeling gas pedal unresponsive or suddenly fueling engine unexpectedly. Learned from vehicle inspection at dealership service dept. That fuel tank is "delaminated" and deformed, and tank, valve and fuel pump all need replacing. Cost: $1500. Not considerered under warranty even though, according to them, this is a manufacturing flaw described by a TSB years ago.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several minutes. After the vehicle was restarted, the check engine indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to brandon Ford (9090 e adamo dr, tampa, FL 33619, (813) 246-3673) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump fractured, which caused the fuel tank to collapse. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact would have to add fuel to the vehicle in order to regain power. Also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the vehicle's purge solenoid failed and caused the fuel tank to collapse, which informed the vehicle that there was no fuel. The failure then caused the vehicle to stall. The contact was informed that the purge valve solenoid, fuel tank, and fuel pump needed the replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle began to lose power and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (crouse Ford, 11 antrim blvd, taneytown, MD 21787) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and closed out the case. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
On way to work, streets, check engine light came on again, took to Ford dealership. Called me back told me the fuel tank, purge valve, charcoal canister, fuel pump, and nozzle for fuel tank had to be replaced. Called warranty and they stated quite a few people had same issue with same make and model/year. Thankful had extended warranty, but a whole fuel system, this seems like a defect, not the norm.
The contact's daughter owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to charlie henderson Ford located 105 us-90, waveland, ms 39576, (228) 467-9005, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that a defective purge valve caused the fuel pump to collapse within the fuel tank. The contact was informed that the fuel canister, purge valve, fuel pump, and fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was presently being repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was provided case number: cas-12778886. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
Car transmission jerks, sputters, accelerates and stalls. In addition now having issues with fuel tank not guaging and now it hesitates, stalls out and is not safe. Car suddenly stopped running had to be towed to the shop and shop advised the fuel tank guage was not operating and registering gas. Now I am going to have to take it back to the shop as it appears it may involve fuel tank, fuel pump and vapor management. I only know this is because searching on line I see many simiilar complaints about the jerking transmission problems, and problems with the vehicle stalling out. It says Ford is not acknowleding this as a problem. I believe they need to recall this and fix this although it appears based on reviews even after repeated attempts to fix it is still not resolved. Many customers have had to pay thousands of dollars. This vehicle is not safe to drive and is in a class action lawsuit.
I was driving home going about 65 mpg in a straight line on the highway and the car lost propulsion, started decelerating. I pulled of to the side of the road as fast as possible and the car wouldn't change gears, and stalled (like what happens when you don't depress the clutch). This is the second time this happened, the first time they reprogrammed the tcm claiming that was the cause. This time they are claiming the fuel pump is the cause, though I am skeptical.
(dealer info) tl the contact owns a 2001 Ford Focus. While idling at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled and the battery and oil warning indicators flashed on and off. The vehicle was pushed by a bystander to the contact's residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called a local Ford dealer and was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 173,000.
Check engine light came on with no other symptoms, dealer replaced purge valve. One year later check engine light came on again, but occasionally turned off and back on again (every few days) between appointments with dealer. Purge valve replaced again and check engine light came on as I was leaving dealer code 0420. Returned to dealer and problem was diagnosed finally as partially collapsed fuel tank (difficult to see unless car was on a lift. ) dealer recommends replacing fuel tank, fuel pump, evap can and other associated parts. Besides the check engine light the only symptom is occasional lack of power when accelerating. The problem is that this symptom is somewhat similar to the "shudder" problem fixed by replacing the clutch assembly. So, having recently done that clutch assembly replacement this felt like a shadow of the former problem and I ignored the issue until I got the check engine lights. I contacted Ford directly to see if they would reimburse for the expensive repairs. They have not issued a recall and I am past the bumper to bumper warranty so they would not assist. . . They were very polite, but unwilling to pay. Additional note on the check engine light: the check engine light, when it came on, would usually stay on for a few days and then either late at night or early in the morning I would find that it was off. And it would stay off for a few days at a time as well. My assumption was that it was somehow related to the ambient temperature of my vehicle (which is black) because the light was more likely to be off when it was cool and dark or overcast. I am listing the date as June 2017 but the problem, at least as regards the purge valve, began a year earlier. But the intermittent check engine lights and second purge valve replacement and current fuel tank collapse began in June 2017.
Inaccurate fuel gauge indication and inaccurate distance to empty. Ended up having to replace evap emmision purge valve, fuel pump, and fuel tank, and canister. Had to replace all parts again 4 months later when my car stop running while I was driving down the highway and this happened to me 3 times.
My vehicle's fuel tank is compressing due to a faulty vacuum purge valve requiring a new tank, fuel pump and purge valve. This issue has caused my vehicle to stall in freeway traffic and in stop and go traffic. The fuel tank is also not accurately reading incorrectly, you are not able to tell how much gas you have with thh indicator. . Ford Focus- 2012, 58k miles.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While being operated, the vehicle experienced complete loss of power. The vehicle was towed to the robin Ford dealer where it was diagnosed that the purge valve, fuel pump, and fuel tank were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
Transmission: while driving the vehicle the transmission in some cases will shift very rapidly giving the vehicle no acceleration power. The vehicle feels sluggish and vibrates. Also, while driving over speed humps or through an intersection in almost every instance the vehicle starts to vibrate after going over the speed hump or through the intersection. Fuel pump: while driving the car the car lost all power while driving in las cruces, new mexico. The car did not stall completely however when depressing the accelerator the car would just now increase in rpm's. I took the car into a mechanics shop and they were not able to duplicate problem. I drive the car for another year and this time the car again started to sputter. It turned out to be the fuel pump.
While driving on the highway my Focus began stalling out very abruptly. I was as if I was slamming on my brakes while cruising on the highway with no notification that it was about to happen. This happened many times and the car would sometimes stall completely or just keep moving. While idling at a stop the rpms would fluctuate rapidly then the car would stall out. I bought this car at 57k miles and at 65k it was diagnosed as the fuel pump which was replaced. Now at 77k miles I am experiencing the same symptoms and they are very dangerous especially on the highway. The manufacturers pump is clearly faulty and it's costing me another $600 to replace for the second time. I have seen many others with this same issue and I'm hoping to see a recall on something this dangerous.
My check engine light came on as I was driving down the road and the car felt like it was stalling a bit and/or losing power. The very next day, I filled up my car w/ 11 or 12 gallons of gas then my engine immediately had trouble starting. I knew my battery needed to be replaced as I have owned the car for 3+ years and have yet to replace the battery. It took 4 tries for my engine to start then I drove to an auto parts store that was conveniently across the street and they performed a battery test. It was confirmed that my battery was low. The store employee also did an engine light diagnostic and the code p-1450 appeared, a purge valve malfunction. I didn't have time to replace my battery at the moment as I had class to attend to. After class, I drove to my local Ford dealership, riata Ford in manor, TX, and informed them of my check engine light being on. The service adviser plugged in the computer code reader and read the same p-1450 code and decided to "clear it". He asked me if I had recently filled up the car w/ gas and I said yes, just a few hours ago. He told me the code has been 'cleared" and to come back if the check engine light comes back on. I then went to an auto parts store and purchased and installed a brand new battery. The car still didn't seem to drive at its 100% capability and sometimes almost stalling out. A day or two later, the check engine light comes back on again and I return to riata Ford. They perform a full diagnostic and inform me that the purge valve is not working properly, causing my fuel tank to collapse w/ fuel pump damage. I was quoted a $2,000 repair cost. I know that Ford has issued a recall on the same exact part for their fusion models as well as Mercury milans. There is also a florida class act lawsuit in progress for the same exact car problem. Please advise what options I may have. Thank you in advance for your time.
