Radio/tape Cd Player Problems of Ford Focus - part 2

The vehicle has flawed latching mechanisms. Within 6 months, 3 out of my 4 doors failed to close. They still will not close. I was taking a turn, when my rear passenger door opened. I eventually got it to close, however after several uses, it will not latch shut. Neither will the rear driver door. The driver door had the same problem, but I had it fixed. Both back doors are currently duct taped shut due to high price of parts. This is a safety issue. I have a friend with a Focus with the exact same problem. If a door opens while driving, someone will get seriously hurt in a collision.

While driving residential streets at approximately 25mph, the car sounded an unfamiliar warning tone along with the message "stop safely now" - at which point, I coasted the car to a stop (unfortunately this happened to be in the middle of an intersection). Even though I had no throttle control at this point, the car refused to shut down after multiple presses of the "start" button. I eventually took my foot off the brake, hit "start" again, opened the door and this seemed to cycle the car to "off" mode. I then tried again to start the car and it worked - after about 10 seconds of driving the "stop safely now" error came on again. I pulled over this time and shut the car down for 10 minutes - I was able to later drive the car home. Waited an hour and decided to have my wife video tape me while driving incase this happened again. . The error occured 3 more times and is all on tape - all while coming to a stop or accelerating from a stop. I shudder to think what would happen if this occurred on my normal commute on the carpool lanes of the 405 or 110 -or worse, decided to power down in the middle of a left hand turn!- this would be a huge liability and safety risk for myself and family. The car is currently with Ford and I'm in a rental until we have a resolve - I didn't find out until after signing a 3 year lease that this is now a well known issue (at least to the NHTSA and on many Ford forums and in articles on the internet) it's an amazing car and I hope Ford figures this out very quickly.

Bought 11/9/2012 six months later rec'd emission recall, 1yr later would not start, dead in grocery parking, dealer said emission again, 2nd yr radio went out, 3rd yr catalylict converter need to be changed, 5/16/2017 was charged $1805. 72, said not emission but it was doing the same thing as before, dead had to be towed again to dealer, dealer said, "codes po420, po7a3 tested, found converter stopped up, shift actuator faulty, removed transmission replaced clutch actuatorsand clutch, removed & replaced manifold/coverter assembly. Now twice so far engine malfunction light, no power, goes 5 miles. . . . . . . When turned off in about 45-1 hr, starts. . . . All this while driving or parked in a parking lot.

Vehicle has intermittent driveability issues. Occassionally the vehicle stalls and the radio will come on by itself. Also, there is a loud bang coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer was unable to find the source of the problem. . . Updated 07/22/13.

Ever since I have owned this car since may 2012 it has shuddered when driving, stalled while driving, and shakes and does not increase speed when the accelerator is stepped on. The car now does not even start when it is turned on, despite the battery being good. Car was towed into dealership several times and they supposedly fixed it. Did several repairs to it but to this date it still shudders and stalls while driving. The latest repair they did was to fix the alternator. . . We will see. . . . Have come to the conclusion this model has several defects and would term it as a lemon. It barely has 60,000 miles on it and a car this new should not be having these issues as they are safety issues and I fear for me and my childrens lives and safety as this car does not function safely and stalls when we are driving! when I expressed my concerns to Ford over these issues they took no action except to tape record my complaints. . . They do not care about these safey issues. . . . The car has been in the dealership service center four times in the last four months. . . . The last repair bill cost me $650. . . . But I have no faith that they (Ford) have fixed the problems. . . . . I am fearful to drive this car but I am a single mother and cannot afford to trade the car in for another as the Ford sales person told me no bank would loan me money on another car as I owed too much on this lemon that Ford has sold me. . . . Ford was of no help and does not care. . . . I told them that it would take someone dying in a car crash from these defects in order for Ford to do something about these issues. . . . . These issues happen while the car is in motion and when it is sitting still. . . The car will not start and has to be towed into the repair shop. . .

Since I've owned the car, I've taken it back to the dealer more than twelve times. I bought it new and have problems with transmission slipping, jumping, lurching. I have been having these issues plus issues with the radio constantly resetting itself since the day I bought the car. The dealer claimed to me that the reason my car times backwards after coming to a stop was to save fuel, then there was a recall on the car to have the transmission reprogrammed to stop it. I had this done, but it still occurs with my car.

April 2011 -- issues began within a week of purchasing the vehicle. Complete electrical system shutdown (causing air/radio/sync system to be of no use). Brought vehicle in because I was scheduled to go on road trip to mass. (sync system shut down in route to mass. ). Soon thereafter, the jerking and shaking of the vehicle. Each time I called or brought the vehicle in, I was told "we cannot replicate the problem". Back and forth meeting with management at waldorf Ford dealership and phone calls with Ford in detroit. Continued issues with the jerking and vibrating of vehicle; continued complaints that the rpm needle would race up and down and the engine would revved because the engine was not getting into gear; may 2013 50k miles -- while in columbia, MD was still having the jerking and "shifting" issues that the dealership "could not" and I received a message on the vehicle that said transmission failure service immediately. I was in traffic and was almost rear ended on several occasions until I arrived at a friend's. Drove home hours later; transmission/powertrain system "fixed"; may 2014 74k miles -- jerking/vibrating/grinding sounds; engine light on and off (not flashing); vehicle not getting into gear from a dead stop and above 50 mph; autozone plugged into vehicle system and received following message/code p2862 "shift fork 'b' acuator circuit high" unable to access any information about the problem; an issue which Ford considers a "common failure" with this vehicle. Nothing like putting a driver and passengers at risk as well as causing accidents. Why are these vehicles still on the road with as many complaints that have been made??.

The first incident of keys getting stuck in the ignition was on November 27, 2009 in iowa. We live in minnesota and had to go to the Ford dealership to have the ignition replaced for $485. 91. Less than five years later on June 4, 2013 the keys got stuck in the ignition again. This time luckily we were at home. I researched online and found that this has been a problem well known to Ford since 2000, yet they refuse to fix the issue. After some more research I found a solution. There is a three ring piece between the shifter handle and the shaft. Simply push it back up toward the handle and presto the keys come out. This is a free solution. I am curious if I called Ford if they would tell me this solution or for that matter even fix the part since it is less than five years. Is it under warranty? another problem is our cd player has a cd stuck that we cannot get out. We were told that it would be cheaper to go to best buy and buy an upgraded one than to have a dealership fix it. At 85000 miles another problem is we had to get our heat shield replaced because it was rusting and about to fall off.

Recently we purchase a used 2003 Ford Focus that has the blaupunkt radio. A new radio station was programmed and the button pushed to store it. Right after the radio started turning on and off with music blaring then silence then blaring again over and over. There was no way to stop it even after turning the car off. I know this may seem insignificant but at the time we were driving on the highway, the passenger set the station and then this started happening which was very distracting to the driver. It could very easily have caused an accident. Blaupunkt sent an email admitting this is a defect if you set a station that has blank rds information. Subsequent web searches showed a lot of people have had this happen. I'm reporting it becuase Ford passed it off as no big deal but I think it's an unsafe condition.

Radio/cd/clock unit appears to short out at various unpredictable times. The cd or radio will act as if the unit is turned off; however the clock display also disappears from the panel. After 10 minutes or longer the clock display will return to the screen - with the correct time and the radio/cd portion can be turned back on as if was turned off. During these "shutdowns" I can not do anything to make the unit work. This includes using the on off buttons and any and all of the other control option/buttons. This has happened three times that I am aware of since I have been driving this 01 Focus 4 door model. Starting in April of this year 2006.

I recently purchased a used 2002 Ford Focus. I have been having trouble with the brakes, the radio, and water leaking in through the front passenger side. The brakes squeak everytime I apply them. The radio only works for one minute and then it fades out, all you can hear is static. The most important of these problems is the leak. It has rained really hard three times in the past month, and all those times I have found the carpet in the front passenger side soaking wet. I have taken it back to the dealership from which I bought it, but they say that it is not covered under the 90 day warranty. I have reaserched on the web and have found that there are many complaints like mine. The Ford company should be made responsible since they are the manufacturers of the car.

From date of purchase, cdplayer/radio would work/not work, same with main inside light. Front passenger fllorboard filled with water regularly. On date in question car was driven approx 15 miles and parked. While parking, car stalled. Car restarted and was able to be parked. 15-20 minutes after parking, lot attendent noticed smoke from under hood. Lot supervisor checked and flames shot out from under car and hood. Fire dept was called and put out fire, but fire had spread quickly and consumed engine. Fire marshall said fire was electrical in nature. Car is unsalvagable and I had only owned it 5 1/2 months.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer because noise was heard coming from the front brakes. The dealer replaced the front brakes. The brake problem continued. The radio had no bass and after the vehicle was shut off the radio would turn back on.

Ford Focus: back door will not always latch. My son almost fell out of the car, thankfully he was strapped into his car seat. I shut the door and was driving away when the door flew open. Focus is white,only 1 1/2 old and has rust spots all over the car. The trunk of the car has the most rust. The radio dial has melted feels like you are playing with bubble gum. Have also had problems keeping the car on the road in rain and snow. I take the turnpike to work and feel that I am going to slide into another car if I go faster then 25 miles an hour in the rain or snow.

Since purchase of vehicle radio did not work as it should be, causing problem at time when turning it on. Please provide more information.

Defective brake rotors. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Consumer also states the windhsiled wipers are inoperative, the striping on the driver side door has always been loose, also radio buttons were stuck,drivers doorlock does not unlock all the time with remote key.

The amplifier keep's going out with the sony system that was installed in the Ford Focus sony addition car and I had it change twice but the problem is still there Ford sent me a letter about to have the system replace and the same thing happen again with the new amperifer.

Radio repaired and replaced 4 times for same problem: radio sound cutting in and out intermittently.

Ford blue oval certified dealer made two attemps to fix cassette player and still does not work correctly. Tape deck will turn on by itself when key is the off postion or not even in the switch. Dealer installed recondition unit , owner upon picking car up notice it did the same thing dealer took another look at unit. Owner asked dealer to not install another unless it would sovle problem , owner has no confidence in dealer to work neatly with out causing more problems. Dealer left second unit in place . Owner will accept this is a problem Ford does not have a answer to.

While driving 15 mph consumer noticed smoke was coming from dashboard/ radio, and clock stopped working. Dealer found radio had shorted out.

7/00- tape was stuck in stereo, had to replace stereo. 3/01- had to replace front brack pads at 11000 miles. 11/01- ignition locked on vehicle. Had to replace ignition. 3/02- transmission was neutralizing when driving. Had to replace transmission. 5/02- car was stalling. Ford unable to detect problem. 9/02- car was not accelerating and stalling suddenly- had to replace fuel pump. 9/02- had to replace front brake pads and back brake shoes at 34000 miles.

Consumer states radio was replaced by dealership, but is still not working properly.

When slippery out, the brakes will not grasp properly. Therefore, the vehicle will slide. Dealer can not duplicate problem. Consumer also experienced these difficulties as followed, power steering system (exploded, w/3-4 week repairs), trunk lock was broken, keyless entry system works improperly, the trunk lock has been replaced twice, the radio has been replaced 3 times & still occurs, the winshield arm recently broke, and concludes that the vehicle also slides in dry weather. Consumer adds that she had filed a complaint w/ board of Ford, the case was lost after recieving a loaner car (due to taking vehicle in for repairs) and says that she cannot afford to buy out the lease (will have to wait until oct 2002).
