With no warning the left rear continental tire blew out the sidewall with 2700 miles in it. He did not hit any oothole or anything else when this happened. We take very good care of our vehicles and thank god he kept control to pull over. Ford denied me help . Insisting he ran sumthing over even after an appeal. We feel very unsafe . After pricing new tires it will take me sum time to replace all 4 and a rim I feel Ford and continental should be fixing this problem or will they wait till we get killed from these hazardous tires? I just purchased this car in March I go 1 mile to work each day not far thankfully. Im very disappointed in Ford motor and continental tire for providing unsafe and in my opinion defective tires. 14 Tire Blowout problem of the 2001 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 02/28/2004

On Feb 28, 2004, driving on I-10 from louisiana to houston, first heard a pop noise, then immediately felt loosing control of wheel, tried to hit breaks to slow down the car, and then my 3 years old Ford Focus flipped over, and thanks god nobody got injured, and everyone was wearing a seat belt. Checked the car, the tread on the right rear tire(good year) looked ripped off, assume this tire blew or exploded during the drive on highway, which is very serious situation. Insurance is still investigating the case. But more ridiculously the la police gave a ticket for 'can't maintain the car". We got 4 new tires for only about 2 months, everything is in good maintenance, and there was no driving fault or other accident associated with my accident, plus we were the victims of this tire explosion, we almost lost of life during the deadly flip over. The insurance is doing the investigating about tires, we don't have much to complain, but it may take a while to deal with goodyear then. Now for this 170$ ticket, 5 hours drive from my home in mississippi, what we should do to deal with the la police? I feel like they should ticket goodyear instead of innocent victims like us, but 5 hours driving to court is really annoying especially we are still driving a rent car during this moment. Is there anywhere we can discuss this police manner except 5 hours driving to la court? frustrated car owner lingyun jin sun.

18 Tire Blowout problem of the 2000 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/04/2001

We were on vacation and 75mph on I-80, in big springs ne, our rear left tire blew out. Our car swerved all over the road but lucky for us it was 2:30pm on July 4th and traffic was light. After getting control of the car we pulled up the nearby exit ramp to a truck stop. The truck service technician changed our tire and put on the spare. The closest goodyear tire retailer open on 4th of July, was walmart 150 miles away. We had to drive under 50mph on a 70mph highway for that 150 miles, finally arriving in kearney nebraska at 7:30pm. It seemed impossible that we would need tires so soon. Also, know the tires have been rotated at a Ford dealer every 5000 miles (as per my warranty) the tire technician at walmart informed us that the tires were damaged by a default in the car. He said that Ford tweeks the alignment on their cars to improve handling and that sometimes that tweeking causes unusual tire wear. Also, he informed us they are 65,000 mile tires and should not be worn through in 20,000 miles. He also pointed out wear on the inside of the other back tire and told us we would not make it home driving on that tire. Faced with few choices, we purchased 2 new tires so we could drive home to st. Louis. The total cost for this was $177. 10. Upon return to st. Louis I immediately took the car into mcmahon Ford and after 3 days, doug sucher informed me that the camber was at 9 which was dangerously near an unsafe reading. He also told me there was no repair available for this problem. I was told the vehicle also needs new brakes due to this defect. Furthermore, he said he contacted the engineers at Ford and they are aware of the problem but have no solution at this time. He did confirm that the wear on the tires was caused by the improper camber setting and we would continue to go thru tires and brakes at an unusual rate. He also said this is a problem on all Focus models and they are doing tire replacements only on the 2001 models.
