When first accelerating from 0 mph, the car will struggle to shift out of first gear. It constantly jumps and jerks between 10-20 mph. It feels like someone who is newly learning how to drive a stick shift is shifting the car. As an automatic, it should not be having these problems. This is the second time this has occurred with the car. The first time the computer had to be completely replaced.
I will begin with my concern and then proceed to give you my back story. I was almost involved in a very real broadside collision with an 18-wheeler and another Ford f-150 about two weeks ago. I was making a left turn with oncoming traffic when the vehicle failed to shift into second gear through the turn. The best way I can describe this is the feeling/noise we've all had learning to drive with a manual transmission and you miss the gear. The vehicle was stuck in neutral and the engine was reaching the rev limiter. I thought I was going to die. I'm very fortunate in the fact that the oncoming vehicles were able to come to a complete stop. I had to put my car in park, then put it back in gear to get it going again. The car just reached 55,000 miles and I've had to bring the vehicle in for warranty work on the clutch assembly five times since purchasing the vehicle. I have been told by the various service managers both to drive the hell outta the thing to wear in the clutch properly. I've been conversely told to drive like a grandma in order to wear in the clutch properly. I have spoken to the service manager about my safety concern and he states there is nothing they can do at the dealership level and encouraged me to reach out to Ford consumer affairs. His next offer was to sit me down with one of the salesman in order to get me into something better. I'm not in a financial position to get into something better. I had planned on keeping this car for another 2-3 years at least. This would get me through school and as my income potential increased, I planned to trade my Focus towards a larger vehicle. I want to reiterate that I do not feel safe driving my car, especially with a baby in it. The car continues to jump out of gear, leaving the vehicle powerless at random times, despite recent clutch replacements, especially in the cold weather.

My vehicle shutters when attempting to shift out of 1st gear, and is often associated with a loud noise. The issue has gradually increased in severity until last week (10. 01. 19) my car stalled at an intersection after stopping at a red light. After talking with automotive technicians at a Ford dealership this is a result of a faulty clutch system. However, at this time Ford refuses to acknowledge any wrongdoing in regards to this problem in my make and model.
When the car was at 55k, the dual clutch transmission's clutches were slipping out of gear from 1000-3000 rpm and produced extreme jerkiness. It would happen from a stop as well as just driving in that rpm range. I had to get my input shaft seal and clutches replaced at 56k. Mind you clutches are supposed to last 100k according to Ford. Also while backing up the car would violently jerk as the clutch was slipping, it was also difficult to go uphill. The clutch repair made it feel better, the shudder is coming back in just 1000 miles at 57k. I am afraid that the clutches will slip again and shift into neutral while driving. I have no warranty either, I don't think I should be eating a cost of almost 2000 for a problem that should not exist. Please get a recall going for this. . .
Transmission slipping and stuttering. Car slips out of gear when driving. I have almost been hit multiple times while in motion pulling out into traffic only to have car slip out of gear and not move anymore. Car has slipped out of gear on highway many times while in motion.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving at any speed, the gear shifted out of first gear and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle stalled and was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle failed to start and was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the computer system failed and the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not provided.
Ford will not repair the transmission clutch for no charge. Drops out of gear, shudders, stalls in motion, city streets, turning and highways. Have asked several times in the past to repair. Needs a recall on vehicles.
Ever since we bought this vehicle it has lost power during acceleration, slips out of gear regularly, when stoped on an incline the vehicle will roll back approx 3ft before the transmission will catch almost hitting vehicles behind me. It has always had this terrible shudder coming out of 1st gear. This is an automatic dual clutch transmission. I will not let my children ride in this vehicle because I feel it is unsafe and it would not be ethically right to sell it to someone else.
Power shift dual clutch transmission is jumping and seeming to go in and out of gear. It has been replaced once already but now starting to do it again after 25000 to 35000 miles. I have been noticing a shutter more and more lately. Ford knew about this safety issue and did nothing about it and not I do not feel like my vehicle is safe to drive. There are several things that I notice about this transmission that makes it unsafe. Sometimes slips out of gear, shutters on take off, and shakes at an idle. I am the 2nd owner on the vehicle, when I purchased the vehicle in Nov 2018 the prev owner told me that a new transmission was in place without this issue, but I found out that it was just the Ford fix to the transmission which many people are having issues with as it was not fixed as a long term fix but a short term fix.
7/15 driving north bound on cline (highway) and while my Ford Focus slipping out of drive in to neutral. Couldn't get my car to respond at all or get back in drive so I pulled off to the shoulder.
Multiple transmission repairs/issues including shudder, slipping out of gear while moving, bucking. In 3 specific incidents, the car slipped out of gear while in motion in an intersection in heavy traffic. Car was sold as an "automatic" but it was not disclosed that it was a computer controlled manual. Dealer says car is performing as designed performed some non-specific update.
My 2012 Ford Focus is equipped with the dual clutch transmission and has had issues from the day I bought it. Shuddering upon start was the biggest issue. Car finally stopped running and was repaired at dealer but now the transmission is extremely noisy and will slip out of gear into neutral without warning, including on highways at speed. Transmission will also slip quite badly upon launch at times which can be a cause of an accident when trying to enter traffic.

The transmission is known to be faulty. Mine studders when going from first to second when taking off from a stop like someone who can't drive a manual. My 01 Focus is a manual. It has slipped out of gear multiple times on me and friends driving it in intersections, and highways. The car is 5 years old. Should not have these problems. I fear it will wnd up causing harm to myself or others. It needs to be addressed and fixed.
The transmission in my vehicle is a dps6 duel clutch transmission made by Ford. It has been pulling codes for fork position a I have taken it to a Ford dealership for repair 2 times in three weeks last time I got vehicle back it pulled 4 transmission codes within 1 hour of getting car back and now will not shift out of 1st gear and when it does and you come to a complete stop you have to turn the car off for 15 minutes before you can drive forward again. I have contacted the dealership about it they said they have done everything Ford has told them to do, I have called Ford motor company and complained and they have done nothing. My vehicle is unsafe for my child and I to be in. It has been parked and none running since 5/29/19.
My 2014 Focus dps6 transmission under normal acceleration refuses to shift out of first gear until it hits high rpms (around 5000rpm), pauses, then lurches forward shifting up into a gear with a low rpm in the 1000s causing further issue and delay accelerating. This began happening on a city street, accelerating from a stop. While it did not cause an accident, it is clearly very dangerous as the pause and subsequent lack of rpms has placed me in bad situations where my ability to react is delayed and I am unable to rely on my vehicle to accelerate consistently or as expected. This is in addition to the more typical shuddering and delay during acceleration nuisance which is common among this dps6 transmission. The subsequent service invoice is attached, can also provide video of the issue.
Transmission will chatter and clank at times when shifting out of first gear. Bought this car in 2019 and started making small clanking noises a few day after buying it.

This 2012 Ford Focus has one of the original dps6 transmissions which is failing as to be expected by design. Ford is denying the extended warranty for 7 years because the purchase date was August 2011. The vehicle is a 2012 and here we are in 2019. This is 7 years. The vehicle is dangerous, shifting hard and slips out of gear and won't go into drive. This is very dangerous when you need acceleration on the freeway or where ever the risk may be in traffic conditions. There are 1000's of reports on the malfunctioning transmission and I recently read on the internet the NHTSA this year is finally looking into this problem that was sold to millions of customers. I have had the car diagnosed at a Ford dealership who proceeded to price gouge me on a repair since Ford won't honor their customer satisfaction. No third party transmission shops will work on this car and the consumer is slaved to Ford for repairs. Dishonest price gouging quotes to boot. I was lured in with $1400. 00 to 1600. 00 to bring the car in. 5 months later, with no cooperation and numerous phone calls, they doubled the parts priced for the repair up to $3200. 00 plus it could be more. I was so fed up I towed the vehicle out of there and back to my garage. This half baked extended warranty Ford put out for this transmission is exactly that, half baked. They know this transmission will fail and the warranty should have covered all components for this mechanical monstrosity. The consumer is over the barrel with Ford fixing this problem and they are taking advantage of the situation. I was denied this warranty by two months when I first inquired about the. It's a 2012 - 2019 7 years. Just because it was sold in 2011 shouldn't make a difference. It's still the same dangerous malfunctioning transmission out on the road. I sure hope the NHTSA puts some pressure on Ford to do the right thing.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at 10 mph, the vehicle slipped out of gear which resulted in the contact losing control of the vehicle and striking another vehicle. The person who was struck was the only injured and required medical attention. A police report was not filed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a storage facility where it was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, NHTSA campaign number: 18v169000 (power train) however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

There car has a tendency to slip out of gear in first and second gears. When you start to drive, the car acts like it does not want to move and then will suddenly sprint forward unexpectedly. Other times, the car will start to move as expected but it will be very jittery and jerky bouncing you around while it gets up to speed leading to unsafe operating conditions. This has been an ongoing and daily problem since purchasing the vehicle. Ford has said these are "normal" in conversations with my dealers and have not looked at the issue in detail.
I bought this car new in December 2014. Since I had no experience with this dual clutch transmission, I did not recognize the clutch was bad on test drive. It shuttered in first and second gear and shifted out of first gear in an unusual way. After about a year, I asked the dealer to check it out. The clutch was bad and replaced. It worked beautifully. A year later, I was back for a second new clutch. Now about a year later, I am back for a third clutch. The car only has 25,900 miles on it. The dealer has been great but I won't be able to keep this up after my extended warranty expires. The car has always been unpredictable with acceleration. Note to everyone, don't pull out in front of someone with one of these cars. You may or may not get a proper response from the transmission. After I had the car a year, my wife went to test drive a new Mazda for herself. We were in my Focus. The Mazda dealer told me up front they would not take a Focus on a trade-in because they've had too many that had to be taken to the Ford dealership for repair after they traded for them. So, they made a decision not to take any more on trade. This is very telling. The government should force Ford to recall this transmission and replace them with better ones. It is not fair to the consumer that they've been stuck with dangerous junk. I'm a Ford guy all the way, but his transmission is the worst.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While attempting to drive, the clutch slipped out of gear. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to bob ferrando Ford Lincoln (8868 w ridge rd, girard, PA 16417), but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 82,000.
I first noticed when I went up an incline that the transmission seemed to have a slight stutter. Then on a recent trip to north carolina and was going up a long hill that the transmission shifted out of gear and the rpm reveved up then it slipped back into gear. Also in future you might put the trunk button in a different place so it is not hit every time you turn off the head lights. But by the time I got back to texas the transmission had shuttered, slipped and gone back into gear many times. When I would kick the car down to get into the passing lane and pass someone it would try to stall which can cause accidents if its heavy traffic situations. And these were in highway situations like I-20 in dallas and on the road outside of areas like that. It was less noticeable with intown driving but still there. The lesser problems started approx. Three weeks after I got this car and always at a street by the elementary school here in clyde because its the route I took to take my grandson to school. The major problems I had were on the trip to and from north carolina where my sister was on her death bed and the doctor told the family to get there.
Shuddering continues on shifting from gear to gear. Feeling of transmission slipping out of gear both at city and at highway speeds. Concerns for safety and being stranded continue. I will make note that I am a 68 year old senior citizen with multiple disabilities. I contacted the dealer, parkway Ford of winston salem, nc and scheduled an appointment to determine the problem. After they ran a diagnostic program, it was determined that the clutch needed to be replaced a third time. They never did address the problem of the transmission slipping out of gear. They said this was normal and the way the car was designed. I noted that coasting is not safe, it is also illegal. The clutch was replaced and adjustments made. At this time I was represented by stern law of novi, michigan in a mass action suit against Ford motor company regarding this vehicle. We note that this clutch replacement was five months since the last replacement.
2012 Ford Focus. Consumer writes in regard to safety hazard; transmission shifting out of gear unexpectedly.
I'm currently on my 4th powershift transmission. I get a new one installed yearly due to unsafe driving hazards it causes. Jerking, hesitation, rolling backwards on slight inclines. Several times while driving at highway speeds the powershift transmission slipped out of gear and I had no speed control. Very scary! Ford keeps installing a new transmission but, it never fixes the problem. They did increase my warranty to 100,000 miles. I intended to keep this car for my teenage daughter when she starts to drive but, I would never trust her life with this car. I can't trade it in because all dealers know this car is a lemon.
This car excelarated on my wife jumped a curb and she ended up on a steep embankment in a pile of landscaping rocks. Knocked a hole in oilpan and damaged airconditioner and compressor. It also jumps out of gear going down the highway. Happened 2 times the vehicle wason the highway and jumped out of gear, you have to come to a compleete stop turn engine off restart and put it back in gear.
The vehicle loses power even though it is still in drive; engine still running fine, transmission is not. Makes no difference where the vehicle is driven; highway, city street, turning, the transmissions simply slips out of gear. Yikes. . Driving on highway and lost power, yet engine still running. Like transmission is slipping out of gear into neutral but still in drive. Also, turning into driveway and did it again.
For over a year now my car has randomly stopped going into reverse, shuttering while trying to shift, hard shifting (or slamming into gear), lurching and or jumping forward (or backwards), slipping out of gear, failing to engage in a gear, and also has slipped out of gear while on the highway/ freeway and almost caused an accident. My car has 82,000 miles on it and is still under warranty but Ford refuses to say anything is wrong. They did replace a shift fork, but they claim that there is nothing wrong with my car. I get the transmission fault light and randomly a message about the transmission overheating will pop up and it tells me to pull over safely and wait 5 minutes. I am being charged (basically taxed) $500 a month to have a car that I cant trust to take me anywhere and I refuse to take my niece and nephew in it because it is so dangerous to operate when every time I get in it- it does these above things. I really wish that Ford would step up and do the right thing because mine is not an isolated incident. But this disabled combat veteran doesn't see Ford doing anything but counting all my money they keep taking.
Two weeks after purchasing the car in October 2015 the transmission started rattling and would hesitate and shudder in traffic when accelerating at low speeds. The Ford dealer said it was within specs. The problem is intermittent . In March, 2016 it fell out of gear with my wife on a trip to charlotte. The local Ford dealer replaced the trasmission control module and did other work on it. It appeared ok for about two weeks and the shaking, shuddering started again, our local dealer service department said, it drove normal. Within the last three weeks it has dropped out of gear three times when stopped on a hill and taking my foot off the brake to step on the gas. This caused it to roll back slightly. Ford customer service told me they can't help me because it doesn't qualify under the lemon laws. Because this transmission problem has become well known the trade in value at the dealer is only $9000. My wife is afraid to drive it. I think Ford is hesitant to recall and replace the transmission because the dry, dual clutch design gives them better fuel efficiency and they would have to compensate owners for worse gas mileage. What good is gas mileage if we don't trust the car and feel it isn't safe. We have five Ford vehicles, two trucks, one with 305,000 miles on it, a 97 cobra, a 2007 Focus with 275,000 miles on it that drives like a new car and the only one with a serious problem is this new 2015 Focus that none of us feel safe driving. Apparently Ford will have to be forced into correcting the problem by NHTSA or civil suits. I do not want to sue them, I have been a loyal Ford customer and I want them to permanently fix the transmission.
I am driving on the highway, and the used car I just bought with in the last week is shuddering, jerking, and slip out of gear. It only had one owner, and a little over 56,000 miles. Now I have only put 125 miles on it, and it does this. Since it slows down quickly with a fierce jerk of the car, I was lucky and did not cause an accident because of the problem, and other cars behind me slamming on there brakes.
