Since I took the car off the lot it shuddered when shifting from first to second gear. It never felt completely right but since it is a new car I assumed that's how it's supposed to feel. Well the shuddering progressively got worse and turned into grinding. I got new transmission fluid and cleaned out the system checked the plugs nothing got better. I took it in a few times to the dealership they said that the transmission was fine and that's how it is supposed to drive. Well I was on my way to work and the car kept slipping out of fourth gear and then it completely lost power every time I pressed the accelerator the engine revved but there was no power. This car is less than three years old it shouldn't have this type of problem. The check engine light never came on and I couldn't even get above 30 mph on the car. I looked online and this seems to be a recurring problem.

First incident traveling approximately 45 mph, as automatic transmission shifts gears, the transmission slips out of gear. Shifting to neutral and back into gear does not work. Pulled vehicle onto the shoulder, put into park, turn off the engine. Engine will not start, no crank. Let vehicle sit for a minute, retry starting, vehicle runs normally. Next incident around 2 weeks later. Similar experience, but travelling approx 75 mph on highway. Required to pull over, restart vehicle. Check engine light on at restart and engine running at lower rpm than normal in all gears. Vehicle rests overnight, runs normally with no check engine light. Subsequent incidents increase in frequency, without check engine light. Simply need to pull over, restart vehicle. Most frequently occurs while traveling on the highway at higher speeds. 6th or 7th incident, about a month after the initial incident. Check engine light remains on. Vehicle service scheduled but not yet performed due to backlog of transmission service repairs at Ford service center.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the transmission stopped shifting out of third gear and the contact was unable to accelerate and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the transmission was reprogrammed. The repair failed to remedy the failure. The contact mentioned that the vehicle continued to shutter. The failure mileage was 55,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle felt as if it were jumping in and out of gear. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred several times. The transmission jumped out of gear and the vehicle could not be driven. The vehicle was towed. It was diagnosed again as needing a new transmission module and clutch. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure kept recurring. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, extended the warranty, and placed an emergency order for the parts. The contact was informed the parts would not become available for a few weeks. The contact also wanted to file a complaint against Ford motor company because she was unsatisfied. The failure mileage was 43,500.
Transmission at highway speed jumps out of gear. Had Ford look at it and they would not even drive it just put it on the computer and said its fine. Also it slips when pulling out. Worst car that I've owned never buy another had 2007 with no issues.

My transmission is great progressively worse. The judder, slipping out of gear, deceleration when I need to accelerate, and the random buckling of car is getting too horrible to ignore anymore. My dealership told me that there has been no issues with the transmission and that I was wrong. I am reading way too many of the same stories with the same car. This is getting dangerous and I am stuck with this car. When I accelerate from a stopped position, I feel as if I am riding a bucking bronco (shuddering). The jolting and shuddering is enough to loosen my kidneys. This has always occurred on my car. But it is getting worse. But according to Ford, this is normal and this transmission is suppose to feel like a manual. I have driven manual transmission cars and they do not behave this way. They have made it seem like cars are suppose to drive this way now.
I purchased this vehicle used on June 25, 2014. On June 28, 2014 while I was driving approximately 65 mph the car seemed to slip out of drive into neutral, the check engine light came on and I lost all power to the car. I nearly had a very bad wreck trying to get the car back in control. Once I was stopped I started the car back up, it started up just fine and drove just fine for another couple of hours. Then it did the same thing again, this time I was driving at approximately 30 mph. When I restarted the car this time the check engine light stayed on and the car no longer wants to shift between gears. I took it into the Ford dealership. They are well aware of the problem, but will not fix it for me without any out of pocket expenses because they have not actually issued a recall. These cars are unsafe to drive!.
Transmission problems since the day I purchased it(3/31/2014). It hesitates from a dead stop or in motion, shutters when accelerating from a stop. Slips out of gear from a dead stop or in motion. After I brought it in for a recall (1/18/2017) it now slips out of gear and dealer says it needs a new clutch for $2,000 when it did not have that issue before the recall. I drive 95% highway. Car has 76,000 miles on it. It's an automatic. I've had multiple cars with automatic transmissions in them and they had over 200,000 miles on them with no issues. I believe this transmission is defective and Ford needs to replace it. I have brought the car in several times beginning with the first week I had it with transmission problems. It would have been in a lot more but they stated this is normal. I now have a car I can't drive nor have $2,000 to fix it. I take very good care of my cars and expected this to last longer than 3 years before a major repair. Now with this known issue, my $30,000 vehicle that I paid for only 3 years ago is only worth about $6,000 on a trade in. I still owe $12,000 on it. How is this normal or fair. Repairing a defective transmission is not a solution since it will fail again. It needs to be replaced. Is it true that Ford knew about these defective transmissions yet still installed them? this is not fair to us as consumers to knowingly be sold a defective unsafe vehicle. Please consider placing a recall on these vehicles as they are unsafe to drive in their current condition.
I purchased this car new and the transmission has had issues from day one. Transmission chatters, surges, and jumps out of gear and then bangs back in sitting still or driving. The vehicle only has 21k miles on it. They have done numerous updates to make them work properly and they still don't work. I am 61 years old and have been a car enthusiast my whole life and this is the most dangerous transmission I've ever owned. I had told Ford service 6 months after I owned it that this transmission should have never been put in a production car. Of course nobody cares, everybody got there money now. It's a shame people have to die to fix a problem that everyone that owns one and including Ford already knows exists.
While driving the transmission will slip out of gear and the engine will race and car will stop.
Car transmission is faulty, was repaired by Ford but still defective, have brought in for multiple repairs but still, not working properly, and transmission has slipped out of gear when pulling into traffic. Im personally scared to drive this car and do not trust it while pulling into any kind of traffic situation.
I have a 2013 Ford Focus. The car remains under warranty. Since I bought the car, the manufacture has paid for the clutch to be completely replaced twice due to issues with the car stalling while I have been driving it (it is a manual transmission that is controlled by a computer system and functions as an automatic for the driver). The car was bought in September 2012. The clutch was replaced on 6/19/2013 with 10,760 miles. The clutch was again replaced on 9/24/2014 at 28,215 miles. Both times the clutch has been replaced it has been due to safety concerns about the car stalling while going uphill. Last night (5/16/2015) while on the interstate going approximately 55 mph with my family in the car, I felt the car transmission slip out of gear. I was unable to accelerate/give gas to the engine and the car was rapidly decelerating. It was difficult to get to the shoulder safely. This car appears to have significant safety flaws with the the dual-clutch, automated-manual transmission that make it unsafe to drive.
My '07 Focus has been slipping out of gear & at times, just stops! a yellow flashing, od off, lights & flashes on the dash. Left me stranded & I have ms!! I purchased this car with 8 miles on it and have taken very good care of it, so I would never have to worry about being stranded. It has only 53,700 miles! is there a recall or a class action suit, because I would be interested in either or both! when I was stopped on a steep hill, approximately five years ago when the car had roughly 20000 miles, it started to roll backwards even though it was in drive. Then it was fine so I didn't see a reason to bring it in, just guessed the hill was too steep for it. . . Seems I guessed wrong!.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while parking, the transmission slipped out of gear. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred a second time after parking in her residential garage and the vehicle went forward, crashing into a wall. The driver sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle was working up to standard. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 12,000.
Automatic transmission was slipping out of gear. Car would be running at about 40 mph and the rpm would increase and whir. Car would lose speed and slow down then speed up again. Car was only three years old with 45+ miles on it and transmission was replaced at no cost to owner. (under warranty) now in December 2014, the replaced transmission with 35+ miles and two years, failing again. Gears slipping and car unable to drive safely. Car parked in owner's driveway. Dealer contacted and will not cover replacement of new transmission. Why should a five year old car be in need of it's third transmission?.

3 separate incidents have occurred in my 2012 Ford Focus all related to the transmission. The first incident occurred on August 25, 2012 while traveling at 40 mph, I suddenly lost power between the gas pedal and the car itself. The rpm's continued to climb but the car was no longer moving. Took to Ford dealer to be serviced and was told they could not find a problem. The next incident occurred on September 8, 2012 - not necessarily a safety concern but contributes to overall problem - pulling out of a parking lot, placed car in reverse, it did not move. Took to Ford dealer where the transmission was "reprogrammed". The most recent incident occurred on September 9, 2012, I pulled out into 35 mph traffic, my car would not shift out of first gear, going 10 mph and "revving" but not accelerating fast enough to stay ahead of traffic. Had car towed to Ford dealer where it is at this time.
I have a 2003 Ford Focus that I bought brand new and drove off the lot with 60 miles on it. Not long after we purchased the car, it started to act as though the transmission was slipping when changing gears. We have always kept up on the recommended maintenance and no one has ever been able to find a problem with the car. About 3 weeks ago we were driving around the neighborhood, not on a busy street thank goodness, when the car shifted very hard as we slowed down for a stop sign. When we attempted to begin driving again, the car would not shift out of first gear. We promptly took it to a transmission shop where they have been working on it for nearly 3 weeks. They have pulled the transmission out to rebuild it twice and have still not found what is causing the problem. The mechanics have even taken it over to the local Ford dealership and they cannot figure it out. I now have a 4 year old car with 53000 miles on it that does not run. If that had happened while we were driving on the highway we certainly would have been hit by a car behind us. This is not normal wear and tear, there is a serious problem with the transmission or the computer system. If this car ever actually gets fixed, I will certainly not feel safe driving it as the performance of the car is unreliable and there is no telling when it will suddenly quit working again.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Focus. The transmission slipped out of gear while driving 25 mph. The steering column also needs to be replaced since it can be turned 360 degrees. The manufacturer could not identify the cause of the failures. The current mileage was 120,000. The failure mileage was 80,000.
While driving engine/battery light illuminated. Then, transmission slipped out of gears. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
My car has stalled on me three times. 30-40% of the time when driving, it won't shift out of first gear unless I take my foot off the gas then start to go again. Also, there is a tapping noise coming the engine when in idle. ,.

Car was parked, transmission was in "park" keys out of car. A car backed into my parked car hitting the front bumper. My car was only 3 feet from the rear of the car that hit me and the backing car backed up slowly and only causing a small scrach on the bumper. After the 2 cars bumped, my car began to roll and continued to roll down a slow grade and picked up speed. The driver of the other car atempted to stop my car but was not able to get in sence the doors were locked. He also atempted to get the front tires to turn and could not. My car then struck a stand of trees distorying the rear end. My car rolled over 120 feet from the spot it was parked in. When I got into my car, I checked the shifter to see if it had been moved out of "park" it was still in "park" and I shook it to make sure it was. I then started the car with out any problem and moved it back to were it was parked. The car drove and acted fine, I even had 2 other people rock the car to see if we could get it to jump out of gear and it would not. I then called a Ford deal where I was told "thats not a problem, if your car gets hit it can jump out of park". Being a police officer my self for over 18 years and in that time with all the accdents I have see I have yet to see one where a car with a automatic transmission was hit and cause it to come out of "park" even when it was hit at over 50 miles an hour. My car was hit at less than 1 mile an hour and it jumps out of gear? but I really can't say it jumped out of gear sence it was still in park the hole time it was rolling down hill and was found in "park" after it came to a stop. This is a major safety problem and I thank god my car was not parked where it could of rolled out into a major intersection and cause the death of one of mine or someone elses family member.

While driving any mph transmission slipped out of gear. Had taken vehicle for repairs, but problem could not be duplicated.
