2 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/12/2011

2006 Ford freetstyle limited repetitive, unexpected vehicle "lunging forward" when air conditioning is on. Will lunge toward walls, people, doesnt matter, have noticed it whether engine is hot or not. Ac must be kept off when in parking lots for sure, as it will lunge at twice the speed even when braking, like driving slow with foot on brake to find parking space.

3 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

I was driving my 2006 Ford Freestyle today with the a/c on and the vehicle started to accelerate by itself and then shut off. The wrench light came on and the vehicle would not pick up speed.

4 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/10/2011

I purchased my 2006 Freestyle new and love the car but it started this accelerating for no reason. I go to park and it accelerates and scares me. I am almost afraid to drive it. This has happened at least 5 times. Mostly in the last week. Please recall this car before somebody is seriously hurt. My son said its a throttle problem about $4oo. 00 to have it fixed.

5 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

Vehicle surges with no application of the accelerator. The surge seems to occur when the vehicle is in drive or reverse, with or without the break applied, and seems to occur when the air conditioning is on although not all surges have occurred with the air-conditioning on. This problem is intermittent and seems to occur in spring, summer and fall months when the air-conditioning has been in use. This surging problem has occurred several times over the past couple of years. The most recent incident occurred when the vehicle was parked in a driveway in front of a home. The vehicle was taken out of park and placed in reverse when the vehicle surged backward to the end of the driveway. The accelerator was not applied to make the vehicle move and the air-conditioning was not on at the time of the surge although it had been used early that day.

6 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

Our a/c compressor recently went bad and had to be replaced. We were told by two different Ford dealerships that this was one known problem with Ford Freestyles; the second being a lunging or lurching problem that involves the throttle body which I have also filed a complaint for this issue. We were told that no recall had been issued for the compressor (or the throttle body), but that these were the most common problems with the Freestyle. Interestingly, the throttle body problem seems to be exeracerbated by the a/c, and I virtually had no problems with lurching and lunging until the compressor and other related cooling components were replaced. At that time, the lunging started again with a vengence. These issues seem to be related and costly to repair.

7 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

2005 Ford Freestyle-the ac compressor and drier was replaced at about 93,000 miles through the extended warranty. It only cost me 75. 00 . No big deal right. The total bill was nearly 1600. 00 for the warranty company. Now at 125,000 miles, it has gone out again. No warranty. I've to pay. It is going to cost about 1600. 00. Now they can't find a compressor and are back ordered until April of 2011. I have never had a compressor go out on any other car I have owned. Approximately 20 cars in thirty five years of driving. Several with over 250,000 miles. If ac compr. Are on back order, many must be having the same problem. I need help. This is a rip off.

8 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

My vehicle surges forward especially when the air condition is running. It seems like something is stuck possibly the throttle. It was first noticed when I drove the vehicle to indio, California and ran the air conditioner.

9 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/13/2010

We own a 2007 Ford Freestyle with a 3l engine. We are experiencing a surging of the engine when the air conditioner is on and we are turning into tight spots such as parking spots. Today (13aug2010) I left the vehicle idling while I went inside a pizza store to buy a pizza (less than three minutes). When I returned to the vehicle and placed it in reverse to back out of our parking spot the vehicle surged in reverse and died. After restarting the engine it would not idle correctly and a wrench light on the dash board came on. The vehicle cut out as I put it in drive to move out of the driving lane and on the ride home the engine would cut out occasionally but never completely died. At home I checked the engine and noticed the top motor mount bushing was broken.

10 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

Surging forward/lunging.

11 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/06/2010

My 2007 Ford Freestyle has had several problems this summer that appear to be occurring frequently all over the united states. Our Freestyle has just over 60,000 miles on it. A month ago, we had to replace the air compressor. Then the car began lurching and one day kept dying as the check engine light came on. Right now, it has been at the dealership for 2 weeks awaiting a throttle body sensor which is on backorder since so many of these models have this problem. Clearly Ford needs to recall this model and quickly find replacement parts for these vehicles.

12 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/24/2010

The car will lunge forward when slowing to a stop or when pulling out after idoling. Running the a/c makes the problem worse and the car tries to shut down. The inside and outside lights start to flicker and the air bag and wrench lights come on. While in park the rpms will race to 3 rpms without touching the accelerator. We have replaced the throttle body and the Smart junction box but the car just keeps gettin worse. The car was under waranty when this started to happen but they couldn't figure out what was wrong so they told me to drive it this way until it died then tow it to them and they would go back to the same ticket since the warranty was almost out. That dealership has since closed so now I'm stuck with the bill. If we only knew what the problem actually was.

13 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

About 2 yrs ago during the beginning of the summer I noticed that my air condition on my 2005 Ford Freestyle was not cooling. Sitting still you will think you have on the heat. I also noticed that on the passenger side it much warmer that than the driver side. Cools ok in the mornings when it is not so hot but later in the day you can forget about the air. I have had the freon check more than once was told it was not low. This year it worst than ever. Before it would start to cool about 20 miles further down the road. Not now! I was told by the mechanic also the the motor brack is broken. What is next. I also had the lunging problem that was fixed, only because it was still under warranty. A car that is only 7 years old sure has had lot of problems.

14 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 02/24/2009

Excessive brake dust. Was informed that rear brakes were down to metal. Rotors were so worn they could not be turned. Replaced rear brakes and rotors. Took car in for routine check and mentioned that the rear bar that the 3rd row of seats holds onto was rusting. Asked if they could check for leaks and if other people were complaining. They found no leaks and said I must have gotten the car excessively wet on the inside (no!). I also complained about a sour moldy smell coming from the air conditioner. . . Again no solution. Had to replace tires becuase they wor out 'prematurely'. Was told it was my driving. Dealership would not do anything under warranty or offer help. Tires had abnormal wear on the inside(toeing?) then I was getting very poor gas mileage and needed a routine check and oil change again. I took it in and was informed I had no rear brakes left. The rear calipers were failing to release. Once again brake assembly was replaced. Took car in for and engine noise/whine 3 different times and had a tech ride with me. Each time they heard nothing and did nothing. Took car in for a loud noise coming from rear wheel along with a burning smell. Tech rode with me and did not hear any noise from tire but did comment about the engine noise/whine. I was finally relieved that he heard it and I told him no other tech has seemed to hear it. Car was looked at and found that rear driver tire bearings were shot and wheel was loose(very dangerous they said) they had to order parts. When I asked what they found out about the engine whine that the tech also heard, I was told there was no mention of it but they would look into it before I came to pick up my car. Next I got a phone call saying the shop foreman didn't hear the noise, so there was nothing they could do. Now for the last two days my car has started really rough and then died. Yesterday it surged forward and the wrench light turned on. I took it in and now they say the code says there is a transmission failure!? 45,000.

15 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 09/01/2007

I have a Ford Freestyle year 2005. It has a throttle body problem. Car has had a problem on and off for a year with it accelerating, jumping forward when I place into drive and sometimes into reverse. I finally had a complete lock out of shifting and car went into safe mode with a wrench symbol on dashboard. This is a $600 dollar repair to fix and it is something internally wrong with the car and dangerous.

16 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 02/05/2007

We own a 2007 Ford Freestyle. When we come to a stop, for instance at a traffic light, the engine will rev up and the vehicle will lurch forward. This often causes the vehicle to then stall. This happens all the time if we are running the air conditioner. Now we shut the air conditioner off while driving in town. We have avoided any incidents so far. Although many times have had to apply extreme pressure to the brakes to keep from lurching into a vehicle in front of us. The vehicle will still lurch, but so far we have been able to stop it in time. As I said before the pressure we have to apply to the brakes is extreme. This also will happen when backing up. The engine will rev up and then die.
