1 Engine Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

Started making noise like a helicopter. Then it wouldnt change out of gear. It is showing the wrench and the engine light on. Will not shift to different gears at all. I have 4 grandchildren that live with me and that rely on me to get them to dr appts, school, and other places. I also have a pregnant daughter that has had to rely on other people to get to her drs appts. I am very disappointed in the quality of this car. I would not recommend this care to anyone else.

2 Engine Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

A few weeks ago I was backing out of the driveway in the morning (it was cold & frosty). When I put the vehicle into reverse it started to back out but then wouldn't accelerate. I pushed harder on the accelerator and it revved and finally went. The car felt off' while driving (shaky & not fully under control-like riding a bicycle when the chain slips but isn't completely off). The wrench light turned on but once I'd arrived at the destination & stopped & restarted the vehicle it seemed fine and the wrench light turned off. Last week I was again backing out and the vehicle would not accelerate, I pushed down more on the accelerator and it skipped / lurched back (almost hitting another vehicle). This happened twice more, both scary but manageable once I was able to turn the vehicle off and on again. Then this morning it happened again with the revving noise and poor and jumpy acceleration but after restarting, the 'check engine' light came on and has continued to be lit. So far I have only encountered the lurching and lack of acceleration occurring while in reverse, though it's continued once going forward until I can pull over and restart the vehicle. Until I can restart the vehicle it feels shaky and on the verge of dying, especially when at idle in traffic or red lights. I did a lot of research before purchasing the Freestyle. I chose it because it was one of the highest rated and 'safest' suvs with 3rd row seats - reviewed by the iihs, car-seat. Org and other organizations. I would not have purchased a Freestyle if these problems were well known to me at the time. We will look at the throttle body as recommended by other owners on this and other sites and I only hope that solves the problem. In the meantime I am afraid of the lack of acceleration and lurching problem happening around other vehicles and people so I am driving backroads where possible.

3 Engine Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Our vehicle has been making noises since August, 2012. It also lunges forward when in park and when going at low speed. Afraid it is going to lunge forward and cause an accident or hit someone in crosswalk. We have had work done on this vehicle and nobody can tell us what the issue is. We have contacted Ford as it appears they have had numerous complaints and no response.

4 Engine Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/17/2012

My family was sitting in the car while it was parked in drive. It stalled out and made a strange sound that sounded like a problem with the transmission. I have noticed that when it is hot it seems to accelerate on its own. I have noticed that it usually happens at low speeds and reverse. I feel that this is very dangerous. I have researched this car online and have read that this has happened to quite a few of these cars. I wanted to make sure that this defect has been noted. Thank you for your time. ## VIN failed ## Ford, Freestyle, 2006 ##.

5 Engine Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/17/2012

My car makes a funny high pitched noise while driving. Also in park to drive, it will lunge forward. I was told that it is a intake bearing that has come loose in my transmission. The noise gets louder as you continue to accelerate. It will only make the noise when it is in motion. I bought this vehicle used in 2010 with around 58,000 miles.

6 Engine Noise problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 03/31/2010

The car started showing hesitation when accelerating and making a strange noise early in 2010. This condition got progressively worse until one day, while driving on the freeway, the engine would not respond to the gas pedal being depressed, the wrench light came on, and I was forced to coast to the side of the road. I turned the car off for a few minutes and when I attempoted to restart it, the gas pedal seemed to be working again. Took the car to jones Ford the next day and they told me the throttle body was bad and replaced it to the tune of $638. 97. Date of service was April 1, 2020. Mileage at time of failure was 61,540 everything seemed fine for a few months but I started noticing the hesitation on acceleration again. Took it to summerville Ford on July 21, 2010. I didn't wait for a complete failure since it was extremely dangerous to lose power on the freeway with a whole car load of kids! jones Ford said the throttle body was bad again and replaced it under warranty this time. Checked for codes and got code #u0141. Mileage at time of replacement was 65,207. Within the last couple of weeks I have noticed similar conditions to the last two times the throttle body failed. Yesterday I was parking and the car surged forward as I let my foot of the brake, almost causing me to hit the car in the spot in front of me. I have no choice but to keep driving it until something is done by Ford about this dangerous condition. I was also told that the motor mount needs to be replaced. I also have repalced the 2/3 row seat pivot once during warranty but it failed again in 2010 and I haven't been able to afford to replace it. The a/c compressor stopped working this summer. Still not fixed. I have replaced my tires twice in seven years. I have replaced both sets of brakes. Ford needs t address these common failures. Before someone gets hurt!.

7 Engine Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/08/2009

This is the 2nd time my 2007 Freestyle has started lunging. It will lunge in drive or reverse. Starts out with small lunges but the lunges get bigger. Then I find that it will lunge so hard I need to slam on the brakes. This causes the engine to stall. It is very difficult to drive upon restart. First experienced the lunge problem in may, 2009. Took to dealer mechanic next day and was diagnosed as faulty throttle. Replaced the throttle and now I once again have the same problem. Replacing the throttle bottle didn't solve the problem. I also have had an issue with my a/c and a broken engine mount. Not trusting the Ford dealer mechanic, I took it to a third party. The parts alone were $1000. 00 because they could get them from Ford only. Total cost to replace compressor and fix engine mount $2200. You can't drive in the hot arizona summers without ac. The lunging seems to get worse with the ac on and when turning the wheels. My first experience in 2009 and this one happened while starting to back out of parking spot. Had ac on and cramped wheels to back out. As I eased by foot off the brake, the car just shot back almost hitting the vehicle behind me. Slammed on brakes, car still tried to back up then stalled. The engine sounds like I have my foot on the brake and gas at the same time. Racing and high rmps. Taking back to dealer today.
