2 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

Over the months, when driving the vehicle there were inconsistent occurrences of surging forward or backward at low speeds without accelerating. Typically this has occurred when parking or backing out of a parking spot/garage. It has increased lately and this past Friday, the vehicle surged greatly and then the engine stalled. This has happened after idling. The only "remedy" is shutting the vehicle down completely and then restarting.

4 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/14/2012

When idling at an intersection or taking off from a parked position. . . The Freestyle will experience a quick surge of acceleration. I have been fortunate enough to apply the brake to stop the vehicle without incident. It seems to occur more when air conditioning is on. The most recent occurrence happened to my wife when she was out with the kids. She put on the gas, it lunged forward, she slammed the brakes and then the engine stalled. . . This happened twice. We parked the vehicle in a parking lot overnight. We were able to drive it the next morning to the Ford dealership for service. It's happening way too often and it isn't safe.

5 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

At first occurrence, I was pulling into a parking space. As I took my foot off the gas and placed it on the brake my car lurched forward unexpectedly. This unexpected lurching has increased in frequency and happens both in drive and reverse. There have also been incidents when the car is in park and it revs, as if I am pushing on the gas pedal. It will rev like that and idle down a few times and then the engine will stall.

7 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/30/2011

Our 2005 Ford Freestyle is lunging forward at low speeds. We need to firmly press on the breaks to stop it which is very dangerous! at this point, the engine stalls. It seems clear this is a very common issue in this vehicle due to a malfunctioning throttle body. This is not safe and there needs to be a recall to perminently fix the issue!.

8 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Engine surged when shifted from park to reverse on multiple occasions. Engine stalled, wrench light came on and engine safe mode appeared. . Dealership replaced throttle body.

9 Engine Stall problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/07/2010

The engine on my 2006 Ford Freestyle revs up on its own at low idling parking lot speeds. The wrench light then illuminates on the instrument display and the engine stalls. Upon restarting the engine the wrench light stays lit and the vehicle accelerates sluggishly. This problem has happened when backing out of parking spots and when driving in stop and go traffic.

10 Engine Stall problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/05/2010

2006 Ford Freestyle experiences engine revving and stalls when shifted into reverse from park. Engine revs and requires brakes to be applied to prevent rapid acceleration. Dealer is repairing at customer cost. This seems to be happening to other owners also.

11 Engine Stall problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/02/2010

Multiple incidents of engine surging when putting in gear or idling at a stop. Sometimes this causes the engine to stall. Was told it was the throttle-body getting stuck.

12 Engine Stall problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/24/2010

Engine stalls out at highway speed. Happened when we first got the car several times in 2008, dealer fixed something after two tow-ins, 2 years later same thing. Dealer claims cannot find anything wrong, no service bulletins. I suggest the car is unreliable for my wife and disabled son, may need to get a more reliable car. They agree with me! they suggest throttle body could be bad but it is real expensive and may not fix the problem anyway. I do 10 minutes of internet research and find that Ford has a known throttle body problem with the exact symptoms we have had now for 3+ years and a major supplier problem (and long loaner car expenses while finding part!). First, why has Ford not recalled this problem? second, is it ethical to tell an owner to just keep driving the car even though it will break down, as they told me to do. This is a safety problem! (sudden deceleration with no power to engine, brakes and power steering as it did on I-45 last Thursday leaving my wife and disabled son stranded in the middle lane of the freeway). Third, is Ford going to make this right?.

13 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 08/16/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. He experienced unintended vehicle acceleration while driving in reverse gear or at a complete stop. The dealer replaced the throttle body; however, after the repair was made the engine began to stall. The dealer was notified, and a technician concluded that the repair parts were on back order; therefore, no repairs were made. The failure mileage was 78,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.

14 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

The vehicle routinely lurches forward while my foot is on the brake and the engine is idling. This began during the summer of 2009, and continues today. It is especially common during warm weather. Sometimes after this happens, the engine will stall after I take my foot off the brake and try to accelerate on my own.
