Says transmission data error check engine and trac control all display and only allow me to drive 20-35 mph some time I can turn the car off and back on and the codes will shut off but they come back on in the middle of the highway what usually takes me 30 minutes takes me an hour and a half to get to some times 2 hours I can't run my ac cuz that over does my alternator and heats my car I've only had it a year and it's been giving me problems 5 months after getting it I have kids and it gets rough going slow in the heat and hoping if I press to much on the gas please help I am broke and have nothing but this car left and I've spent $2000 for people to tell me nothing is wrong with it.

I was sold a vehicle without being told that there was a recall. Instead he told me it was just some rattling that was coming from something loose and not important. Its rattling like crazy under my car. I looked up recalls for it and there is an important recall that needs to be fixed on it. Please. It can harm my newborn child and melt wires and is gonna cost so much money that I don't have to fix it. This is my only car. Please. Its a 2005 Ford Freestyle and there is a recall for it on exactly what its been doing. Everytime I drive it feels like it's gonna fall apart and inside the cab is getting hott and harmful fumes are coming into the cab. Its dangerous. The heat shield is broken I guess.

During low speeds the vehicle surges!. Without holding the brake down hard this would have resulted in damage to my vehicle and in some cases others. This occurs sometimes at a complete stop like in line at a restaurant or even in a parking spot. This obviously only happens when the vehicle is in gear (drive). The contact stated that the vehicle was at stand still at a fast food drive thru and after turning on the ac, when the vehicle jerked forcefully forward and seized. Lunging, lugging, while stationary or at low speed, forward or reverse, warning lights come on. I see this same complaint hundreds of times on this NHTSA site as well as internet searches. After reading numerous detailed issues and matching mine to specific complaints, it was determined that the issue is the throttle body. I took my vehicle to my trusted mechanic for removal and thorough cleaning. This inexpensive repair resolved the engine lunging issue. Please provide this information to Ford service departments via bulletins or whatever, so this problem can be resolved easily and quickly. The lunging is a serious problem, with the vehicle suddenly surging forward from an idling position with foot on the brake. I see that expensive, unnecessary repairs are being performed which have nothing to do with the issue. It is a throttle body that just needs to be cleaned.

I just bought this 2006 Ford Freestyle and have almost had 4 wrecks this week! it just surges randomly in the school pick up line redlights parking lots and stop signs im scared for my familys safety. I dont know what to do I paid alot of money for this car from an indivdual.

Driving just fine whenever I got it. Not even 20,000 miles later at about 122k miles the transmission is bad and going out. It drives at high rpm but low speeds and will not shift into proper gear. Makes a funny airplane noise from the transmission. This vehicle has been kept up with by me.

On multiple occasions, while car is braked but in gear (d), car lunges forward despite brakes being applied. I notice the engine revs suddenly increase when this happens. This has happened sporadically over the last few months. On Thursday Nov 22 around 7. 30pm, I stopped at a stop sign in woodburn, oregon as pedestrians were crossing. Suddenly the car lunged forward, but thankfully did not hit a lady who was crossing and thought I was intentionally trying to scare/run her over. Not sure if this is related, but in two occasions the car completely shut down while in motion and driving around 35 - 45mph range. The brakes naturally stiffened and I told power steering. Luckily, I was able to maneuver to the side of the road and restart. Another issue is sometimes I lose throttle control of the car. On few occassions, this happened as soon as I started the car, and sometimes when I was stopped at stop sign. All three of these symptoms started showing up around the same time, which is why I believe they may be related. The problems started approximately when the engine had 128,000 miles and currently it has 140,000miles.

The wrench on left side of dashboard comes on and when I shift into drive or from drive to park transmission jerks. Have had it looked at but never find anythang. Does it more when it's hot out or when engine gets warm. Love my Ford Freestyle just hard to take trips outa town. Happens while driving. Can't drive over 50 mph and if I am I have to pull over shut off vehicle and wait a few minutes and start it back up. Sometimes I have to repeat that a few times.

All engine lights come on at various times with no working gauges, but car drives. Withing past year, had instrument cluster replaced 2 times, alternator replaced twice, injector coils & spark plugs, cleaned/replaced, battery replaced, throttle body assembly & gasket, . Had diagnosed at 2 Ford dealers in different states and neither can figure out what is causing all the dashboard lights to stay on. Both dealers were adament it was the instrument cluster, which clearly it is not since the error lights are still on. Have been told it could be electrical or rcm, but there is no way to test for either. Dealer wants me to foot the (hourly / union) labor rate while they try to figure it out. Currently car is currently with local mechanic who is going over the car to figure it out. Nothing has been determined yet.

Engine surges when steering wheel is turned. This happens when idling or at low speeds. Surging causes car to accelerate unless drivers foot is ready to stop it by stepping on the brake pedal. Very dangerous to any non aware drivers.

While reversing slowly from a parking spot and turning the wheel, the 2005 Ford Freestyle suddenly accelerated without application of the gas pedal. Quickly pressing the brake did work to slow the car down. This is not the first time that this has happened since I bought the car last year.

Problems started after the battery and alternator were changed back in November 2017. First, the battery light and check charging system went on right after the Ford dealer changed the battery and alternator. We were told that the electrical output was fine despite the warning light. Since then several alternators were changed by the dealer but the warning light remained and the dealer does not know how to fix this. Today while driving (streets and highway) the dashboard (instrument cluster) went off and on and all gauges went to zero and back on after a while during driving. There was a kick to the engine every time this happened. My backlights went crazy (including reverse lights) while driving forward on streets/highway. Turning lights were also affected. Other drivers alerted me today. This is a danger to us and others. I fear the engine could eventually get affected too. There are many posts online with identical issues and Ford does not appear to be willing or able to solve this.

My car says engine malfunction and wont go over 25 mph. I also have an awd malfunction problem that we have tried to fix and doesn't seem like we can. I'm trying to wait until tax time to trade in but don't know how to get my kids from point a to b in the meantime. Mechanic tells me to get it scanned for $70. Vehicle surges while parking or moving at low speed, especially while in a turn.

I was on the parkway going about 65 mph. I stopped at a light to turn. As I pressed on the pedal the car did not accelerate normally. It was sluggish. I pulled over to let traffic pass. I turned off the car and turned it on again. The car started and I was able to drive it about a 1/4 mile before it stopped accelerating. In that 1/4 mile the car barely accelerated. I had to press the pedal far to raise the rpms a little bit. Had I continued to drive down that parkway I would have been hit by another car. I had to be towed home.

The dealer cleaned the throttle bottle and reprogrammed the pcm; however, the failure recurred. The contact informed the dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired again. Door latches freezing every winter and doors will not latch and stay shut. Also went to Ford website and realized there was a recall for fsa title: engine idle rpm surge extended warranty field service action number: 12n03. I was unaware of this recall and my car does this quite frequently and I am afraid the tens years is up for this to be taken care of. When pull up to a stop sign or red light, sometimes the engine will rev really high and lurch forward causing me to stomp on brake pedal really hard.

While veichle is stationary, the engine revs between 500-1000 rpm. Transmission seemed to have stopped shifting and made the rpm go all over the place. While turning at a slow speed it seemed to make the issue worse. Was told it needs a new transmission.

My Ford Freestyle has begun to surge in acceleration when after I am stopped with my foot on the brake, and then I let it off first to go, it surges ahead or backward, depending on forward or reverse with no pressure at all on the accelerator. Repeat, I do not put my foot on the accelerator, and it suddenly surges forward or backward with no warning, though I can hear the engine and as well as feel it once it surges. This is intermittent, and seems to occur when the ac is on. The mileage is 123,000, and it has happened about 5 times now, but it is intermittent. We were once in many situations: stopped idling at a light when it was time to go, stopped in a drive thru lane when it was time to go, stopped in a parking lot briefly waiting for pedestrians, so basically stopped for at least a few moments---and once while reversing from a parking space. Please let me know if there has been anything found on this, since I see a large number of other people on this site have been having problems for a lot of years. Safety complaint for Ford Freestyle 2006. The wrench and engine light appear on the dashboard and the engine goes to limp mode and the speed drops to 30 miles per hour from highway speed of 60 to 70 miles per hour with no warning other than the quick drop in speed and wrench light. Driving on a highway with trucks and cars going 70 miles per hour or more is beyond dangerous and asking to get hit. We have had Ford service on this car but they did not have recalls for this problem. Vehicle in motion on highway. Have had car towed, pulled over to breakdown lane and traveled side roads for fear of getting hit by another vehicle. Please do something to Ford corp to fix this problem before there is tragedy.
