Lost power steering while driving the car.
I drove my car to the next town over running errands and my Fusion makes an alarm similar to a low fuel but more urgent sounding. The cluster reads servivlce power steering now and service advance trac. I lost power steering/ assistance and with advance trac off I know I have no stability control or traction control. Luckily I was driving because I can say with confidence my wife could not have turned the car off the road to safety with it being front wheel drive. We arrived at out destination and my arms were burning from fighting it into a tight parking spot. I left it off for a while and tried again and the service power steering now warning was back. I built up the strength to make the drive back home. Entering the road at 10 mph the service advance trac now warning goes off. We made it home safely and I don't want my 3 year old daughter to get back in it until it's repaired. I called Ford and they said there was no recall and I did my research before talking to them and I said "how is this not a safety recall, I've read on forums this is a $2000 repair" and he agreed like he knew exactly what my issue was.
Why driving my car I lost my power steering and almost got in bad accident. Took to dealer and cost me $200 just diagnose to find out going cost $2200 to fix. The power steering assembly. Look up on recalls to find out 2011-2012 Ford Fusions has recall for that. But find out that my 2011 Ford Fusion not covered by VIN number look up. This car very unsafe to drive any more with out fixing and if I get fixed is it going happen again because investigating the problem the exhaust on cataleptic converter is 3 inches from electric steering assembly and makes it get to hot fry's the module for steering.
2011 Ford Fusions were recalled in 2015 for sudden loss of power steering. My 2011 Ford Fusion was not included in the recall, but should have been because last winter I suddenly lost power steering while in motion, turning in a parking lot. Fortunately I wasn't going fast at the time, and I was able to safely stop. The auto shop used "TSB 11-11-03" that was published on Nov 3, 2011, which indicates the Ford motor company knew about high friction issues in some control arms that can cause the power steering to fail. The auto shop followed the service procedure specified in TSB 11-11-03 and replaced both control arms, which fixed the problem. Since the known service procedure fixed the known problem with the power steering, I presume my 2011 Ford Fusion should have been included in the recall from 2015, and perhaps other excluded 2011 Ford Fusions could be in jeopardy of their power steering suddenly failing, considering mine didn't fail until November of 2019.
Tl-the contact called on behalf of his spouse who owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact required additional effort to maneuver the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to golf mill Ford, 9401 n milwaukee Ave, niles, IL 60714, (847) 470-9800, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the steering gears needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77000. Ah.
After reading Ford recall 15s18, it was a dead ringer for my problem. I lost power steering while driving at speed (45 mph) and nearly didn't make a turn. The dealership confirmed the issue was indeed the issue related to recall 15s18 and did the work. They replaced the steering gear and reprogrammed a module exactly as the recall prescribed. The bill was $2450 and when I brought up the recall they pointed to the fine print which said that the recall was good for 10 years (which I was within by 2 years) and 150,000 miles. I was a mere 7000 miles over the limit so they would not claim it under the recall. I was never notified of the recall or I would have had it fixed. The car had been to the dealership for years for oil changes and service, yet they never once thought to tell me there was a safety recall?!? I called Ford customer service to see if they would be reasonable but they denied me too. A safety recall, which is the fault of the engineering design of the vehicle, should be covered regardless of mileage!.
I was driving home from work route 130 nu torrential down pour and I get a power steering assistant warning then I lose all power steering , thankfully I didn't wreck I was able to get off main highway to side road turned off vehicle hoping that would reset fault to no avail problem still there. I managed to get home safely took care to my mechanic I was told it was my rack and pinion and told me it would be a healthy bill almost 2k to fix. I also in turn found out there was a recall for my model year went on website to find out my VIN wasn't included in the recall which makes no sense at all, why would mine be excluded if it has the faulty part the same a others. . . . How does Ford get away with not fixing all the faulty units?????.

Lost power steering. . . .
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle lost power steering ability. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to levittown Ford (3195 hempstead turnpike, levittown, NY 11756, (516) 336-4718) and the contact was informed that since the vehicle was 3,000 miles over the warranty, they would not cover the repair costs. The manufacturer was contacted and agreed with the dealer. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 153,000.
Was driving on the freeway and my car started jolting and all of a sudden I lost my power steering. I had to pull off on the side of the road and then two lights came on. One said fix power steering now, and something about advancetrac. We tried disconnecting the battery over night and that did nothing. We'll be taking it in to the dealrship this morning.
I was driving the vehicle and lost power steering assistance. Warning light came on and display noted that fault. Parked the car, when I restarted it the problem went away. This could have caused a major accident had my wife been driving the car and entered a shape bent in the road. Fortunately I was driving about 40 mph on a fairly straight road when the problem occurred. I checked and no recall has been noted on this particular vehicle, however it appears other 2011 Fords including Fusions have been recalled. I want this to be on record in the event there would be an accident due to Ford's reluctance to take action of this serious problem. Please note: I am not able to check the box for receiving recall alerts, but would like to receive them. Thank you.
Lose of power steering whenever it wants & service afvamcetrac continues to come on. Suppos day yhere t no recalls yet I loose power steering at amy given time & no mechanic can repair due to the inform me it should repaired by entire new parts from Ford. Had been taken in multiple times yet then they tell me it should b ok but won't promise it due to every other power steering recall on this vehicle but mine. Need help & resolution. Has stopped workin multiple times & have had 3 accidents into curbs, my other vehicle & thx god when it happened on freeeay I was able to slam my brakes & safely get out of traffic.
Driving at 45 mph I lost my power steering. Took it and the dealership and was told they would have to reprogram the computer. Picked it up on Thursday and Friday morning I lost power steering again this time I was driving about 55 to 60 mph.
The power assist steering light came on and the car lost power steering. This happened in the driveway while the car was in motion. The car was not steerable at this point. I turned the engine off and then restarted the car and the power steering was active so I took it to the dealership. The dealer diagnosed the issue and found steering rack internal damage (invoice and description attached). This is the same issue as in recalled Ford vehicles, however, because this VIN was not included in the original recall the work was not covered by Ford.
Lost of power steering will turning. Currently no power steering on car with "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrac" lights illuminated. Previously was able to get power steering back by turning car off/on, now that does not work.
The car often loses power steering. Sometimes when first starting the vehicle and putting it in gear. Sometimes when driving. Sometimes when turning. It asks for a date so I picked a single incident, but to date it has happened more than 12 times starting around 60,000 miles if I remember correctly.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering ability. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000(steering); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The o c welch Ford dealer was contacted and refused to do the repair due to the manufacturer's qualifications for the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and did not offer assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Would lose power steering in the middle of driving. Steering wheel becomes tough to steer. Looked it up pscm recall. Had repaired at Ford dealer. Says I'm not getting reimbursed because car wasn't made in certain factory. My car was manufactured the same timeframe of the recall also. The recall needs to be opened up to more manufacturing plants. It's the same problem. Get this. Even the repair that Ford dealer made. Year down the line failed again. I have all the documentation.
Ford offered recall 15s18 to replace electric power steering assist on 2011-2012 Ford Fusions. The manufacture date for the recall begins on sept 07, 2011. However, my Ford Fusion, manufactured one month earlier (August 07, 2011), has the same issue. The dash message center says "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac". At approximately 85,000 miles I lost power steering at 75mph while passing an 18 wheeler on the interstate. I lost control of the vehicle and had to rapidly decelerate and pull over. I almost wrecked into the bar-ditch, as the steering column violently jerked the vehicle to the right. Now, I still have complete loss of power steering and my local Ford dealership informed me that recall 15s18 won't cover my vehicle repair since it was manufactured a month too early. According to my research, this problem actually affects a number of Ford makes and models, from 2008-2015. The problem is frequent and persistent among 2010-2012 Fusions. Ford should be liable, especially when safety is the issue. The malfunction is incredibly dangerous, and Ford is about to have yet another massive lawsuit for this.
While I was driving (on hwy 301s, in waldorf, MD) I got an error message that said "power steering assist fault. " I immediately lost my power steering and I had to make a detour to turn on streets that were not crowded (this was on a 10/21/16 during the evening rush hour). Fortunately, I was not far from my house. I called Ford (in michigan) the next business day on 10/24/16 and the said my vehicle was not covered under a recall, that included "2011 Ford Fusion," just not my vehicle. I took it to my regular mechanical and they said it should fall under the recall, but my local Ford dealer (where my car was purchased in waldorf) also said it wasn't included and they couldn't do anything.
While driving car suddenly lost power steering. Message center showed power steering assist fault. Speed was aprox. 20m/h I hit a curb and stop. After restarting the car message disappeared and power steering started working again. Car was taken to dealer. Repair cost 1800 dol.
When driving, my car suddenly lost power steering and a light on my message center said power steering assist fault. The steering was basically locked up. I had to stop the car and turn it off. When I restarted the car functioned normally.
My 2011 Ford Fusion lost power steering and became very difficult to control. The warning light displayed today while in motion. After stopping the vehicle and restarting the vehicle became very difficult to turn. My wife uses this vehicle to drive my son to and from school and now she will never feel comfortable or safe after this issue and reading all the previous complaints. This is a big issue and a recall needs to be issued. Ford needs to fix this issue and restore peoples trust. Our Fusion currently has approximately 48,000 miles.
Lost all power steering $1700 to fix complaints filed with Ford. Car built August 2010 not covered under recall. Requesting extension of dates to cover my VIN. Driving vehicle lost power steering. Could not handle car. Husband had to drive to dealership.
On 2 recent occasions, I lost my power steering while driving my vehicle. I did not get into an accident but nearly went off the road. I received 2 messages on my dashboard. Power steering assist default and service advancetrac. It is my understanding there is a recall ( 15s318) on 2011 Ford Fusion and other Ford vehicles with the same issue. I called Ford on 08/24/2015 and they told me my vehicle was not included in the recall. Approx cost for repair is 1600-2000. The power steering will not reset itself so I cannot drive the vehicle. It would be greatly appreciated if you could look into this matter.
The vehicle lost power steering in a turn and the driver had insufficient strength to control the vehicle. The vehicle drove over the curb on the side of the road and bent the tire rim. The displayed caution was "power steering assist fault/ service advancetrac. " in a different situation, the curb could have very easily been another vehicle or pedestrians. This failure of power steering has occurred at high speeds as well. Service providers do not see the fault in the workshop as the fault clears each time the car is turned off and fails randomly.
Driver was entering a traffic circle and suddenly lost power steering functioning. Driver was able to continue through traffic circle exerting greater force on the steering wheel to complete turn in traffic circle. In car message came on regarding loss of power steering. Driver immediately turned into a parking lot and turned off vehicle. After waiting a minute or two, restarted the vehicle and was able to proceed with power steering apparently functioning. Took to dealer and was advised that needed new steering gear as it was failing.
I have had intermittent issues with my power steering since I purchased the car in 2012. During the colder days of the year when I started my car I received a message saying power steering fault and I did not have power steering while the message was up. Restarting the car resolved the issue so I ignored it as it only occurred on cold winter mornings and it did not occur while I was driving. I wasn't aware Ford Fusions used the epas system, I thought the error was coming from the power steering fluid thickening up but I soon realized my car did not have a hydraulic system. On 4/25/2015 I was driving down main st and I noticed my car was suddenly pulling me to the right side of the road and I had a harder time steering the vehicle. Soon after I received a message saying "service advancetrac", and "service power steering now" appeared on my console. I pulled into a parking lot and realized I lost my power steering. I powered off the car and turned it back on and the error messages came back. I was able to drive my car back to my apartment with some difficulty, I'm just happy I wasn't on the highway otherwise I could of got into an accident. I will drop the car off to the dealer tomorrow but I'm hoping my warranty covers the part. If not, I may never purchase a Ford again after reading up on the epas system failures. Ford really needs to get their act together and create a recall for this dangerous issue.
When I turned on my Ford Fusion the other day, I saw a power steering failure message come up on my dash. I had lost power steering on the vehicle and was unsure what to do. I shut the vehicle off and started the car back up which resolved the issue for now. I'm nervous this could happen again when driving at high speeds on the freeway during my commute.
I started receiving a power steering assist failure warning light, and loss of power steering, about a week before it failed completely. Each time I was in a parking lot and reset the warning light by turning off the car and turning it back on. I was pulling out of the driveway on Friday March 6th, 2015 when the light came back on, and I lost power steering in the vehicle. Due to the vehicle not being operable on the road, I had it towed to the local Ford dealership. They diagnosed the issue as a steering rack module failure and suggested a replacement of the steering rack. We ended up having them replace it and the total bill was over $1,700. 00. The dealership stated that this is a common problem with this specific model year and car and had this part in stock. A simple internet search also shows that many other cars with this specific model year have the same issue. Please look into issuing a recall as losing power steering could potentially be dangerous if driving the car on a highway.
While driving down a street suddenly truly out of no where, the car dings and power steering failure repair advancedtrac now appeared in the display. The car lost power steering and I nearly ran into someone while attempting to pull into a parking lot to park. I researched the issue since the dealerships "front end person" was not available on Saturday when I had the problem and it is a very common problem with the car. I could not imagine if my wife would have been driving would she have been able to pull the car over without hurting herself or someone else. There was zero warning, one moment everything was fine and the next power steering was out and I was on my own. This is unacceptable, especially being a common problem that cost $2081 to fix from my local dealership. This should be looked into as a recall!.
Twice now my vehicle has lost power steering while driving. The lights suddenly come on saying "service power steering now" "service advancetrac". I completely lose power steering which makes the car very unsafe at any speed. This time I had my 3 of my children in the car with my wife and myself. I am afraid to drive the car now and I don't have $1500 to $2000 laying around to fix this. I can't believe Ford is not owning up to this problem. I have read all the other complaints, this is obviously a manufacturing defect and Ford should be held 100% accountable.
Twice now my vehicle has lost power steering while driving. The lights suddenly come on saying "service power steering now" "service advancetrac". The first time this happened they were able to reset the computer stating it was an issue with the electronic computer. Now it has happened again and it is completely unsafe. This is not the only electrical issue I have had with this car. About a year ago the electronic throttle body sensor went on it. This was an intense safety problem that was thankfully recalled. Ford really needs to realize the implications of electronic issues in this vehicle.
While driving on the express way the car lost power steering and the power steering failure light came on. Became almost impossible to turn the vehicle. The dash messaging system read service advancetrac. We tried resetting everything, turning the car on and off, nothing fixed it so we are taking it to the dealership. But read it was a common issue and we believe it should be recalled so something like this does not happen to someone else and end in a fatality.
