Steering assist fault light came on as I was driving and I was not able to steer the car I had to pull over and stop. When I restarted the car the steering was working. I was very hesitant to drive the car, my husband drove the the car to the Ford dealer and we were informed during the inspection the steering gear was failing internaly and they recommend replacement. Apparently, I am 5 months out of the 15n01 safety recall. I am wondering why such a dangerous safety recall would have a time limit? my Ford Fusion came from the hermosillo assembly plant during the 9-7-2010 thru 2-28-2012. I missed recall due to the 10 years of warranty start date of the vehicle. This seems like a recall that should not expire. I see numerous complaints from other owners of Ford Fusion with same complaint. If Ford was able to narrow down the cars and the plants they came from, I feel they should be responsible to fix them regardless of milage or expiration of recall. They still pose a risk of harm or fatality due to accidents.

While in motion, the vehicles powered steering gave out - with the failure of service advanced track. Turning the wheel becomes nearly impossible - it's extremely dangerous. Often, before the service advance track failure, when starting up the car, if I started turning it would flash a warning related to the steering - I have to wait about 5 seconds before turning. I've told various mechanic shops about this issue (when intermittent) and they were been unable to diagnose it. Since I purchased the vehicle years ago, I noticed that the steering leans slightly to the right. The service advance track failure has occurred once in the past and the resolution was quite expensive / unwieldy ($2k) - it involved replacing the axle, amongst other components, that were damaged because of the steering issues. This occurring twice, in both cases while driving the vehicle (possibly under highway conditions), has been exceedingly worrisome & stressful. In an instant, turning requires a tremendous amount of effort - I am certain, in some situations, this sudden steering failure would have resulted in horrendous accidents. The first time the service advanced track failure occurred: restarting the vehicle allowed it to become drivable - enough that I could bring it to various mechanics. I believe I was told I could replace basically the entire steering system, for an exorbitant price, but, the mechanics could not even guarantee it would fix anything. This time, it was wholly undrivable. . Now that this has occurred a second time, I have absolutely no confidence that the electric steering in this vehicle is safe - it genuinely worries me that this vehicle is on the road. Unless Ford can wholly diagnose, recall and fix this issue, I will be selling the vehicle and buying a new one - for my safety, my passengers safety & the safety of other drivers on the road.

This morning I get in my car to come work and the power steering assist fault light came on. I turned off the vehicle and then turned it back on, this time it did not go off and the power steering was no driveable at all. I had to have my car towed to the Ford dealership because it wasn't driveable and then was told that they had no vehicles to loan to us to drive. Unacceptable in our book!.

My car has been absolutely fine for the most part until about 4 weeks ago , while I was driving the low tire pressure light came on, so I went and aired up the tires, the low tire pressure light went off but then the service power steering light and advance tire traction appeared at this time im pulling back into my drive way, then I came out my house a few hours to leave and the stirring wheel was locked I tried to drive it and now the strring wheels goes to the right I never had this issue before let alone any warning signs . . I looked into recalls with Ford and it showed my 2011 Ford Fusion had recalls for whats going on, so I called a Lincoln Ford dealership that said bring it in they kept my car for a week and when I picked it up nothing was fixed on it and they had no paperwork to give me the show they fixed it so I returned my car the very next day because when I drove off it was still doing exactly the same thing but worse so now they've had my car for a week and they called me this morning to tell me my car has been doing the same exact thing and it is the wire harness that needs to be fixed and it's not under the recall but it is part of the power steering so I don't get it.

When I put my car in reverse from a parked position, the sensor for the power steering electronic steering assist warning light comes on and I struggle to turn the wheel. My wife was driving our 2011 Fusion and the power steering light came on and the warning light stated to service the power steering immediately . The steering locked down where she could no longer control the car so she pulled over and I had the car towed to the local Ford dealer : stokes hodges Ford (1850 jefferson davis hwy graniteville, SC 29829) at my expense. They checked and confirmed that this power steering recall was applicable to our Fusion and would install it. The service department called me back later in the week and said that they could not replicate the issue and that that the car showed no code therefore they could not install the recall parts. My wife almost had a serious accident because of the power steering issue so she is afraid to drive the car again due to her close call with an accident. I furthermore called the Ford motor company office for issues like this and they agreed with the Ford dealer and ignored me. The bottom line is that I insist that the recall be installed before we drive the Fusion again. . The vehicle was in motion . The problem occurred while turning on a highway onto another at a stop light. . The recall consists of replacing a steering gear and an electronic steering assist system is what the dealer told me. I brought the car new and was never notified by the Ford motor company about this issue. Please help as soon as possible so we can use the car again without being scared . I found this information on the Ford motor company recall website :1field service actions: epas steering efforts thanks joe n brown.

2011 Ford Fusion after starting from cold start the car will not steer. It is stuck in lock position. This has happened at least three times but that powersteering assist failure didnt come until last week. Wheels are straight not not turned extreme left or right and the steering wheel will stick in straight position. Not able to turn steering wheel right or left. This has happened three times that I can recall. I purchased the car with 24k in Aug 2016. The car now has 64k and sat for @8mos last year due to the tokata recall. I see a recall but my VIN does not show up although it has the same symptoms as other 2011 Ford Fusions recall 422,814 model year 2011 to 2013 Fusion, flex and Lincoln mks and mkt, model year 2011 to 2012 Lincoln mkz and 2011 Mercury milan vehicles for a possible electrical issue that can lead to steering difficulties. The manufacturer says the issue an intermittent electrical connection in the steering gear can result in loss of electric power steering assist while driving. If the loss of power steering occurs, the system defaults to manual steering mode making it difficult to steer and increasing the risk of a crash. The power steering assist failure light came on. The fourth time it happened at work and vehicle was stationary and wheel would not unlock. I turned the car off and it seemed to reset itself.
Intermittent power steering assist fault light came on for a couple months randomly upon starting the vehicle. After turning the vehicle off then back on again it cleared the error and the sterring became easy. After a couple months of this when turning the vehicle on the error came again along with advancetrac error and the steering is gone and the errors codes stay. Ford said the steering gear needs replacement and it's costing me $2,000 to fix. Not sure why it's not under recall since it's the same issue as the others and it only has 39,000 miles on it. $2,000 is a ton of money.

As of recent, the contact stated that upon his father starting his vehicle, the power steering fault warning light illuminated and his father would have difficulty steering the vehicle. For some time, the contact's father would be able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle resumed normal function, more recently, the problem had been more persistent and the failure occurred more frequently. The contact's father then returned the vehicle to the original dealer where he was informed that he was no longer eligible for a recall repair; he was also given a quote of $2,200. 00 to replace the power steering rack and paid a $125. 00 diagnostic fee. A power steering warning light came on during driving and the power steering failed while driving. There was no accident that followed, but only because the area was a straight flat road out in the country. I took it to a dealership, they replaced a power steering module under a recall after I paid $200 to replace an electrical wiring harness. Had it out of the shop less than 2 weeks and the light again came on and the power steering worked until it was parked, but the next time it was started, the power steering would no longer work. The dealer is saying the gear is out, and it is $2300 to repair. I bought this car for my daughter who is a very inexperienced driver and an accident could have followed either of these failures. We got lucky and both times she was in a safe mode of travel for such a failure. The date listed below is the second failure of the power steering.

While driving down the road at 55 mph the power steering went out and a light came on saying power steering assist fault. Almost caused an accident but was able to gain control of the wheel.
On a Monday morning a light on my dashboard came on and it said steering power service now, this cause the steering wheel to become stiff and hard to control. While I look all over under the hood to find the steering power fuel reservoir I couldn't find one. On Wednesday afternoon as I was driving a sharp corner it was difficult for me to turn the steering wheel and I lost control of the car ending up hitting the bridge in the road. The low traction as well came on when the steering power light appeared.
When starting the car the steering (in stationary position) locks up and power steering failure light comes on. I turn the car off and re start and its fine. The steering wheel has become hard to manuever and makes a noise especially on left turns. Problem is progressively getting worse. There is a current recall for this problem, and my Ford dealer refuses to cover the fix because it has over 100,000 miles.
