Power Steering Light On problems of the 2011 Ford Fusion - part 2

My son started his Fusion and the power assist fault light came on. He couldn't turn the steering wheel. The car was shut off, and when I arrived and started it, it was fine after being put in reverse. I researched recalls and found many on this vehicle. Air bags,lug nuts,power assist to name a few. I called Ford and they ran the VIN #, they said the number was not covered. How can certain #'s be covered when they all have the same problem !? I guess the only fix is to to have people who can't afford to fix it ($2000) drive unsafely because Ford won't admit they are in the wrong ! I can only hope nothing happens while he is driving. .

The vehicle was also taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the steering gear overheated due to the closeness of the exhaust manifold to the rack and pinion. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure millage was 137,863.

In addition, the contact also stated that when attempted to drive the vehicle the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to frederick motor CO dealership located at 1 waverley dr, frederick, MD 21702, (301) 663-6111 where it was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering) but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000. Aw.

The vehicle was taken to the teague Ford Lincoln dealer (870-864-9400, located at 1730 w hillsboro st, el dorado, ar 71730) where it was stated that even though the VIN was part of the recall (NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering), that the recall did not apply to a salvaged title. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the recall did not apply to a salvaged title. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000. Fe.

At the gas station my service advance track power steering light cam on I have no power steering and it's not safe to travel. I have read other for Fusion models to be recalled with same problem in 2015 only my model is not included. I have 2 children and WI tha one income and can not a Ford to have this 2000 problem fixed. My car is kept up and it's serviced regularly.

Was parked on lot but was unable to move car because steering wheel locked and power steering failure light came on. Was unable to move car - tried twice. Had to have car towed to Ford dealership. Dealership replaced power steering rack.

Service power steering now light came on and became difficult to steer. After parking the steering froze up completely and the wheel could no longer be turned in any direction. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. There was a recall on over 400,000 of these vehicles for this same exact problem but the dealer is telling me that my VIN is not covered. Please extend the recall to all of the 2011 Fusions.

Power steering recall: power steering failed to work while driving and the power steering light came on. Took the vehicle into a Ford shop and was informed that the electronic steering rack was faulty. This is the same issue that Ford recalled other 2011 Ford Fusions for but for some reason this VIN is not included in the recall.

I was driving from jasper, TX to georgetown, TX. When the service power steering now light came on. There were also two other warnings that came on including remove all items from front passenger's seat, but I don't remember the other. I tried to return to jasper but the car became too hard to steer and I stopped in bryan, TX. I believe there was a previous recall on this car but at the time my car was disabled for other reasons. I called Ford about this problem and they said they would call my dealership, but the dealer indicated that they had never been called. I am currently at a hotel in bryan without my brother's or my own medication. I cannot contact Ford until tomorrow which will mean two days without medication. This is an emergency situation. Please help.

Driving on interstate at 70mph when power steering service light came on. As exited first available off ramp onto state highway, steering became increasingly more difficult to the point of being unable to make first two desired turns off state highway. Prior occurrence 08/22/2017 resulting in Ford service department replaced steering rack assembly and set toe adjustment. When car was returned from Ford service department, pulled left and steering wheel off center. Car was returned to Ford service department who stated nothing wrong with power steering, issue was because tires need rotated. Car returned and driven until this occurrence. Ford service department states no issue with power steering and is again blaming tires, however last service receipt reports "gtire tires checked good at this time. ".

Ford issued a recall on the power steering assist on my car. I took the car for servicing to Ford. I was informed that the repair would not be made unless the steering went out. Also, I was told the steering system had to fail before 160,000 miles. Later the power steering fault light came on at 161,000 miles. Wow!. Unacceptable that Ford will not repair this vehicle under the recall notice.

Upon starting the car, the power steering assist fault light comes on and there is no power steering assist. The steering is almost impossible to control. Upon turning off the key and engine and restarting the engine there is sometimes, but not always power steering assist. Have also had a failure of the power steering assist while driving which could be catastrophic and dangerous. While driving had to find a place to pull out of traffic so the key could be turned off and engine restarted to gain power steering assist again. Very dangerous situation that should be recalled and repaired by Ford motor company. There are not photos to upload related to the problem at this time.

The power steering assist failure light came on several times when I started my car. I looked in owners manual which stated to turn off and restart which let me drive. But it stated to call dealer. I called dealer which said that it was under recall. The next day the dealership told me that my car was not included in recall. It is the same part that is under recall on other 2011 Fusions but not mine. Now I have to pay $1,000 to replace the steering gear.

I was driving home on the highway, about 60 mph, my service power steering now light illuminated. Immediately after, my steering wheel locked up, and I lost all steering capability. My car began coasting and scrapped the guard rail on the highway. I was able to coast off of the freeway into a empty parking lot.

Faulty steering light came on several times and then turn off while driving. . . . And today 09/01/2016 the steering column locked up and unable to use even if the car is turned off and on. The car was in reverse when it locked.

Check power steering light came on while driving in our neighborhood/subdivision and power steering went out, making the car very hard to steer. We started/stopped the car several times to get the light to shut off. We were fortunate that we were not going that fast or been on the freeway where an accident could have occurred. The same car made in the same plant with the same issues was part of a recall, but unfortunately out vehicle was made several weeks before the recall period. When I asked for the old part, I was told that I would have to pay about $200. 00 for it. Didn't I pay for this when I bought the car?. Some Fusions from the year 2011 are covered under a recall but not mine, even though it was manufactured in the same mexican plant. Ford should be concerned about the safety of its customers and be willing to have a recall on all of them or at least pay for the cars that have that problem which required the replacement of that part. I am very lucky that I was not driving on the highway when the power steering stopped working.

Both dealership repaired and cleared the codes, but its still a problem. Its been a problem for 6 months. They want to charge me 3000. 00 to replace the whole steering system. Another issue I have is the driver door will not open from the inside. I have to put the window down to open the door from the outside. This move is unsafe. Ford should be aware of this.

I was driving the service power steering light came on, then I had no power steering. It was scary. I had my two girls in the car and I was trying to turn into a parking lot without having a wreck. I had no control of the vehicle. I made it, notre I'm currently sitting here waiting in a tow truck. I have tried to restart my car several times. I can't go anywhere. I was driving my 2011 Ford Fusion and the abs and power steering lights came on and then my power steering went out, I was on my srtreet when this occured but I was not able to turn the car left or right and I hit the curb. Now after turning it off and on like most say on the forums nothing has worked I have called Ford and they refused to fix the issue, they stated they do have a recall out for this problem but not for my VIN.

My 2011 Ford Fusion se has had the power steering assist failure light go off and the power steering does not work. I have read previous complaints and have restarted the vehicle after a minute or so and the light goes off, the power steering again works. I had the vehicle to the Ford dealership for an aligment and they had the same power steering issue. There has been a recall issued for this exact problem by Ford, however my particular vehicle is not part of the recall. I have talked to Ford and they have passed on my complaint to customer service who state there isn't anything they can do. I am so disgusted by Ford right now. I do fully understand that the recall is for certain vehicles manufactured at certain plants with certain parts, however I don't understand how a company can ignore someone regarding a safety issue that is exactly the same as the one their recall is for. Very unfair. At this time, I either have to pay out of pocket for the repair or continue to have a vehicle that is unsafe to drive.

The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the contacts vehicle would receive the recall repair. As I was making a turn my power sterring fault light came on. This happen to me three times . I cannot afford to pay for the repair or part please help. I took to Ford and cost is 1800 to fix the problem . My car needs a steering rack.

Power steering went out shutting at mcdonalds drive thru. I could not turn the car. Power assist light was in. I finnaly got the car to turn but ur was very difficult. When I got through the drive thru I parked turned the car off and back on and the steering returned to normal.
