Since the first time that bought the car appeared twice in three months at the moment of starting the car: assistance steering power failure. Then turning off the car and start again would go off and run normal. However today appeared and nothing worked. After one hour trying to make it work we never could. So, we had to call the towing service and go home. I’ve checked the recall but nothing appears under my VIN number that has to do with this problem.
The power steering has sporadically failed twice within the past month while driving at low speed (once at a gas station, another while making a right turn at a stop sign). The incident with the stop sign almost caused a collision because I was unable to turn the steering wheel. I immediately turned on my hazard lights and drifted to a curb across the street. I took it to the Ford dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and they stated I needed a new steering rack. They asked for ~$1500 to replace the steering rack (I declined). I researched recalls on the 2011 Ford Fusion and found that there was a recall for steering failure. Unfortunately, my vehicle's VIN is not included in that recall.

My 2011 Ford Fusion's steering wheel completely gave out on me while driving on a highway in July of 2015. Extremely dangerous situation. Dealership informed me of an open recall and replaced the whole steering rack pursuant to Ford recall number 15s18. Fast forward three years later -- last Friday, also while driving, my steering wheel failed and almost caused a crash. Exact same errors. Contacted two different dealerships, as well as Ford, and all said they can't do anything about it -- that I would have to pay $2300+ to get it replaced. How can the steering rack fail me twice in three years? how does Ford get away with making this a one time recall and doing nothing when the same thing happens again? it's absolutely absurd and horrifying. No car - especially not one that is a relatively newer model - just randomly has a steering rack failure in the middle of a highway. If I had crashed, I am guessing Ford would have paid for the replacement.

Takata recall & steering failure I have a 2011 Ford Fusion on which the steering suddenly failed, without any warning, while driving. Thankfully the failure occurred close to our home and my wife was able to make it home without incident. I've been doing research online and learned that this is a common problem. While Ford has issued a recall for some later models, they are not covering all viechles with the same part. I am contacting you to raise awareness that the problem still exists and is still impacting people. I have owned many cars that are much older and have never had a complete steering loss. I also want to let you know that we are still waiting for resolution of the takata airbag recall. The recall was issued by Ford in July of 2016. We have continued to drive the car with the promise by Ford that the car is safe, however, as I continue to read about incidents online, realize that may not be the case. After all, if it were safe there wouldn't have been a recall. My wife has gotten to the point where she doesn't want to drive the car for concerns for her safety. I feel this is unacceptable and am asking for your help to hold Ford accountable 1. Escalated from dealer to Ford due to safety issue, Ford offered some assistance, still $1070. Parked car at home, escalated to Ford customer care, and given a case number. This is a safety concern that must be addressed! I cannot allow my loved ones behind the wheel of this vehicle. I'm sure no one at the Ford motor company would either.
The power-assisted steering suddenly failed causing the steering wheel to snatch out of my hands as I was pulling out of a parking lot. It then became harder to steer the vehicle. So I took it back to the Ford dealership that I had just bought it from.
Driving on interstate and steering completely failed, more or less felt like it locked-up. If I was on the next road I was going to, I would have probably crashed. Stopped vehicle and turned it off. Once restarted seemed to clear up but is still harder to steer. While pilling out of a parking space the steering assist failed making the vehicle difficult to steer. Car had to sit and be restarted before regaining steering. Since the incident there are steering assist warnings on the dash. The problem appears randomly and very concerned steering will be lost at high speeds or hit someone or something at low speeds.
Why is gm recalling steering failure problems for the same type of problem I have been experiencing with the Ford Fusion 2011? I understand Ford recalled a couple other models but has not addressed the Fusion steering failure and many are aware of the Fusion steering loss problem. Complaints & lawsuits have been filed but nothing is being done.
Upon traveling at slow speed steering completely failed--no power assist. Could not turn--very dangerous almost had near collision. Shut down car and waited 10 minutes. Started up and ran ok. If this was at highway speed I could have been killed.
I drove for approx 5 mins from my home to a local store. When I restarted the car from the store the steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. The message "powersteering assist failure" appeared. The outside temp was approx 20f. My intention was to drive slowly back to my home and call towing but I decided to restart the car first. After restarting the steering was working normally. After reading other postings it seems that this type of failure could also occur while driving. This would pose an extremely dangerous situation. I will contact my Ford dealership and am hopeful that they are able to repair this problem in a permanent fashion. Otherwise I would not allow my wife or kids to drive this car and would need to escalate this issue with Ford.
While driving my vehicle at the red light started to make a left turn when the light change as I was turning my steering failed which caused the car to be hard to turn, I pulled over and turn the car off and it reset itself. Also while backing out of my garage the same happen had to turn off the car to reset itself. It is now at the shop and they said it has not happen while they have been driving.
