Abs Brake Fail Problems of Ford Fusion - part 1

While backing out of driveway, suddenly all brake related warning lights came on and I lost brake pressure (pedal went to the floor) and I coasted almost to the opposite curb before pressing hard enough to stop. I towed vehicle to the dealer and was told this was an abs module failure, and that there was currently no recall for this vehicle.

I had the abs hcu fail. I was fortunate that I had plenty of room in front of me to stop. I understand there is a recall on this. However a year later Ford still doesnt have to part. Is this timely? what is reasonable time? what am I to do, but drive a faulty brake system? Fords solution is I pay to fix it and they will reimburse me what they feel is adequate. I am a bit confused. Do they have the parts? I have their refusal letter to fix it and text that they will reimburse me to fix it.

2010 Ford Fusion built at the hermosillo plant in August 2009 is suffering from the same hydraulic control unit issues as a current recall: 19v904000 that covers the same vehicle and parts from the same plant but for a Feb. 22, 2006, to July 15, 2009 timeframe. Manufacturing defect of the hydraulic control unit is causing the abs system to fail and not engage resulting in needing abnormal extra force to stop vehicle in emergency braking situations. Therefore greatly increasing risk of collision and reducing safety.

The vehicle abs module failed at about 80,000 miles, resulting in delayed and more difficult braking. This could cause the vehicle to not brake properly and has resulted in documented accidents. This problem is related to Ford recall #19s54 and NHTSA campaign id 19v904000. The Ford dealership mechanic said that the problem with the brakes exhibited the same manufacturing defect as the recall, but since the vehicle was manufactured at a slightly later date (< 2 months after the affected-parts end date). Upon contacting Ford, they refused to include the vehicle in the recall because of this. We are alerting NHTSA that more 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid vehicles may be impacted other than the ones captured in the initial recall.

I was driving about 5 mph on a street when my brakes failed and the control panel started blinking about abs failure. I was able to stop the car using the hand emergency brake. I turned off the ignition and restarted the car and drove maybe 100 feet when the same problem occurred--brakes failed and control panel started with warning. I was able to stop car again with emergency brake. No damage to anything or anyone. This same problem happened about 4 years ago with this car--I took to a Ford dealer who could not find anything wrong with my brakes or the computer software for the abs. I feel lucky I have not been injured because I was driving slow and could use my emergency hand brake, otherwise I would have hit another car or object without brakes.

When driving over rough road or when its raining and applying the brakes, the pedal goes to the floor. It seems as when the abs system activates it causes the brake system to lose stopping power. After awhile the brakes seem to reset. I have taken it to numerous mechanics and they cannot duplicate the problem. An internet search, which I'm sure you're aware of, has documented numerous cases of this possible abs pump failure. This has been an ongoing event for the past year.

In motion: brakes stopped working properly while driving (modulator for abs failed) and power steering locked up the steering wheel to the point that it required significant effort while driving which created a dangerous situation for my 17 year old daughter who had to stop in the middle of the street.

After driving on slippery roads on a city street, the brake pedal became soft and we could not stop. We had to pump the brakes many times. The local Ford dealership says the abs hcu has failed.

I am experiencing intermittent failure of the abs control module, essentially causing a loss of braking capability when driving. This occurs without warning. Brakes return to normal operation after shutting the vehicle off, and restarting. The abs �resets� only to occur at a later date and time. The abs fails while driving at normal operating speeds. Both occurrences that I have experienced to date have occurred in residential zones traveling at 25 miles per hour. The dealer has diagnosed it as an abs failure with a repair cost of 1645 dollars. My vehicle has less than 45,000 miles and has no history of accidents or major repair.

I was driving about 45 mph, approaching a stoplight when I went to press the brakes and the car didn't slow down. I had to push the brake pedal completely to the floor and narrowly missed a semi that was turning at the moment. There was no warning light on the dash or anyting to indicate that the abs failed. It takes a longer distance to stop the car, there is little to none brake pressure and I can not make sudden stops. I was told it was the abs module and it failed. Ford wants over $1,000 to get this fixed. I researched and this seems to be a standard problem for the 2011 Fusion. An investigation was opened earlier this year into Ford due to the many abs complaints. They have known about this for years and have yet to issue a recall. There should be a recall before someone gets seriously injured or worse.

While driving, if I have to come to an abrupt stop and the abs kicks in, my brake pedal goes all the way down, and I have no brakes at all. This also happens if I run across a small pothole, uneven pavement, manhole cover, etc. I have ran through red lights into oncoming traffic, into the ditch, into the center median, all on many different roads, and done a complete 360 on the interstate while raining all due to the abs braking system failing. I don't know how many times my children and I have come close to a fatal accident due to this abs braking system failure. I was recently informed of this website to report this issue. Otherwise, I would have reported this long ago, when it first started happening. The last incident occurred on 8/12/18 on gene snyder freeway.

Abs pump failure. Car was driving lost all pressure in brake pedal almost hit car in front of me. And still there are no warning lights in my car even though I have no pedal! cost is outrageous 1200 for Ford to fix. There are many complaints online about this. This is a serious safety issue.

The contact stated that the failure occurred at least eight times since July of 2018. Tried to brake as usual and brakes were not as responsive and needed more pressure/time to stop. Abs light came on shortly after. Ford believes that the cause is abs module and/or abs hcu (abs pump motor failure). They are unable to determine actual cause until I py $3,000 to replace each potential issue. While brakes seem to operate ok now, the car needs more time to stop. Have seen multiple complaints online w the same issue (spongy brakes, abs module failures). I have also been unable to obtain the recall replacement for passenger side airbag as they are short on parts.

Ford Fusion abs brake failure during braking. My abs system has completely failed, and I finally feel safe. I thought the car was trying to kill me. Before the abs system finally fully failed,( the orange dash light is now on, and the abs system is off. )the abs system would pick the worst time to fail , during basic braking, emergency stop braking, wet braking or in sand. It seemed that any time the tires had less than perfect traction, the abs could randomly fail without warning. The brake pedal in an emergency stop situation, or basic braking, would go all the way to the floor, emitting a loud ratcheting sound as the pedal became ineffective and soft, not stopping the vehicle. This would happen when wheel speeds were below 30 mph, and the cars sensors thought the tires had lost traction, when they really had not, I was on I-4 during the last hurricane and had to park the car due to all the traffic starting and stopping. The brake pedal doing its random working and not working, I almost got into 4 different accidents due to the brakes completely failing, never before have I had a car where I wondered if the brakes were going to work, or fail possible causing a crash. With the abs not active, the cars braking still works, and not once has the brakes failed with the orange dash light on. This major problem needs to be addressed immediately. ,,, Ford still has not contacted me with a replacement for the passenger side takata airbag that is currently under recall. So I am driving a car with a failed abs system, and a air bag thats a bomb waiting to go off spraying me with shrap metal . And the car is not under recall ? the Ford Fusion is a lemon , and unsafe at any speed.

Upon applying the brakes when approaching a stop light and going over a small bump, the brakes failed and it took extended distance to stop creating a hazardous event almost causing an accident into another vehicle. Since event occurred, the brakes feel spongy and it takes extended braking distance to stop. After research and diagnostics I was informed it is the abs modulator failing. I called Ford to discuss the issue and inquire about the amount of the complaints, but yet no recall has been issued. The girl I spoke to suggested going to a Ford dealership to have a diagnostics test performed. She also kept restating the airbag issue. I requested to speak to a supervisor. She responded saying she would transfer me, however, she just redirected me to the main menu.

One morning on the way to work as I applied the brakes approaching a stop light, my brake pedal suddenly went all the way to the floor. The brakes did not stop the car but since the road was on an incline I was able to slowly roll to a stop partially into the intersection. I drove very slow to work, keeping several car lengths distance because even after pumping the brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floor. The following day the brakes were better but still very spongy. Drove the car for a few weeks before I could get it to the mechanic. Some days I only had to press the brake halfway and others I had to press the brake all the way to the floor. The car has been at the mechanic for three weeks now. Changed master cylinder twice, now looking at an abs module or hydraulics assembly. The brakes have always been spongy and had to be pressed at least halfway in order to stop. This is my second (and will be the last) Ford Fusion with brake issues. The first car was totaled when the abs failed to work causing me to run into the back of another vehicle. The brakes were always spongy on the first car as well. Another note to add: when it rains the brakes are very unpredictable. One stop can be highly sensitive and the next barely any brakes at all.

The electrical throttle body was replaced, but the contact was informed that there was no repair for the brakes. The contact's brother retrieved the vehicle from the dealer after the repairs. While driving 30 mph and approaching an intersection, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to engage. The vehicle was able to come to a stop after traveling through an intersection without a crash. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact did not feel safe driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that there were no recalls. No assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 196,625.

Abs brakes failed after hitting a pot hole causing the peddle to go to the floor. Abs failed on a rough road at a four way intersection causing loss of brakes and ended up in the intersection.

Loss of braking after abs event. I was driving down the road and I had to make a sudden stop to avoid hitting another vehicle. The abs system activated and then the brakes became spongy afterwards. From then on, even the regular brakes were spongy and would not build up pressure after pumping manually. I checked on the internet and there are youtube videos on the subject and there are websites with this complaint. Seems to be widespread. There is also a NHTSA document (odi resume pe 16-017) on the subject. I talked to a Ford dealer, and he said that to replace the hydraulic control unit (hcu) would cost about $2000. Ford has not issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) or a recall for this problem, so they won't pay for the repair. The regular brakes should work even in the event of an abs system failure, but this is not happening; thus I cannot rely on my brakes unless the abs is disabled. Maybe I should pull the abs fuse.

This vehicle model has a faulty hcu for the abs brakes that fails consistently. It has failed on me and many people who own the same vehicle. Make Ford responsible and have them issue a recall on this now before people are killed by the brake failure resulting in lawsuits against Ford and the NHTSA for failing to do their job.

In may, my car lost nearly all brake pressure after I had to make an abrupt stop to avoid a collision. I was traveling straight on a paved road when I engaged in the abrupt stop at an approximate speed of 45 mph. This issue had occurred in the past as well, but within the next 1-2 times I drove my car the brake pressure would return. This time it did not. When I took my car to a local brake mechanic shop,. I was initially told that I needed a new master cylinder. When I took the car in to have the master cylinder replaced the mechanic told me that upon further review he was able to tell that the master cylinder in the brakes is not the issue, and he's restored brake pressure to the system; however, once the abs system was engaged the "soft" brakes returned. The mechanic further noted that his belief is that the abs module has failed.

Leaking abs pump, thus also sucks air in causing inefficient braking. Searched online and looks like lot of people have faced the same problem with the abs pump of related Ford cars, Lincoln, milan, Fusion etc. The mentioned vehicle only has 90k miles on it. Its too early for abs pump to fail.

The abs control unit failed and almost made me crash in the highway on n 680 exit treat blvd ,and I spent $1500 just to find a solution. This is a recall that needs to be addressed.

Abs failed to stop my car.

The abs hydraulic unit failed while driving after hitting a small bump in the road causing the brake pedal to go to the floor which resulted in poor braking action nearly causing an accident.

While exiting off the interstate and passing over rough pavement, the abs engaged and the vehicle lost brake pressure. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor and braking ability was very weak. Had to quickly pump the brake pedal several times to regain braking function. From then on the brake pedal was extremely soft. Had brakes bled, fixed soft pedal until abs again engaged. It was the same soft pedal again. Had a new master cylinder installed and lines bled, and still soft pedal. Then researched problem on internet and found numerous complaints about the same brake problems. Contacted 2 different local Ford dealerships and they both told me this is a common problem on 2009 Fusion. Told me it is the abs hydraulic control unit. My conclusion is dealerships are aware of the problem, and I am sure Ford motor company is aware of it also. When the abs failure happens it is dangerous. And I'm am sure it has caused accidents. This issue really needs to be resolved soon.
