Ford Fusion owners have reported 35 problems related to adaptive equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Fusion based on all problems reported for the Fusion.
I was driving on the highway utilizing the adaptive cruise control. It was set to 55 or 65. I went to change from the right lane to the left lane and my vehicle started accelerating quickly. I was coming on to oncoming traffic way too quickly to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me I had to swerve and hit the cement median. It all happened so quickly I'm not sure if I was even able to try and hit the brakes at all. I searched the Ford website and haven't found any recalls for my vehicles year. I thought I should report this right away so other drivers are aware. This is secondary to having to have the battery replaced and electrical system reset. . . . And the steering wheel bolt replaced! I wish I could give this car back. So scared to get back in it.

The right passenger front door latch was replaced with the same defective latch part that has a recall, this door is intermittently sticking which is making me extremely nervous that it is going to fly open while traveling down the road with my toddler or someone else in the car, along with passengers on the road. I am in fear of being locked inside of the car as well, being that it doesn't have any key holes! the door has stuck approximately 5 times since the "repair" at fairwary Ford in burgaw, nc. Also when I place my car in reverse and press the gas pedal there is a delay sometimes before it starts to reverse, this can be fatal if someone is ever behind me!.

My passenger front door wouldn't shut, in the rain, at the store, I had to leave it open and unlocked and have my husband physically had to hold the door shut. After slamming it probably over 100 times, we got it shut, we have the seat belt holding it shut. This is a huge concern for me, I have a 2 year old and 1 year old what if this happened to their door and no one could have held the door shut going down the road, or a gust of wind would have happened, etc. Wtf????????.
While driving the car started beeping. Took a minute to figure out the climate control which was set at 72 was automatically going down to 60 (it beeps as is changes settings). Tried to turn in back up and it went down, turned it off and it came back on. Did this all the way home. In my driveway, with car turned off, it continued beeping. This has happened 6 times between April 27th and August 30th. Some times it goes up to 85 degrees and sometimes down to 60 and there is no stopping it while driving. Ford has updated computer twice and replaced it once. Waiting for call back from Ford to schedule another appointment. I feel this is a safety issue as there is no controlling it and it's going to extreme low and high temperatures, as well as the continuous beeping. Extremely distracting. I have yesterday's incident on video. Not to mention, since they can't figure out what is causing this I don't know if there is a possibility of fire; it must be electrical of some sort?.

My dash door indicator light came on and after checking the doors found the passenger rear door had opened and would not close. After trying several times to close the door no luck it would just swing back at me. I have emailed Ford to get info on this problem but no response back.
Interior driver side door handle would not open door. Made appointment with Ford service to check safety problem issue. Ford replaced and corrected interior door handle issue. Cost was approximately $260. 00 dollars.
Transmission started slipping and then failed completely. Had to have car towed to dealer. They say it needs transmission replaced. They say rust caused a hole in tubing and fluid ran out. Car has just more than 73,000 miles on it. Car serviced routinely, not driven in bad weather much.

Ford has had a problem with their ac equipment since 2006. They have ignored this problem and have left to owner for repairs. The problem has nothing to do with the ac but with the temperature sensor evaporator. Which can either over heat or freeze up behind the dash. It cost most owner a high labor cost for the replacement of this deffect that Ford is aware of. Vehicles involve with this problem are not just the Ford Fusion but also the Lincoln LS as wellas the 2012-2014 Fusions. Beings that Ford knows about the problem, they bare the responsibilty to rectify the defect.
Forward collision warning. This system is supposed to warn you that the car is stopped at a light and you approaches car or if he pulls in front of you slows down quick to give you sufficient time to stop. On my car you have to be 10 feet from the other car or at times it doesn't work at all. To prove this I have run many tests. The dealer says when following closely behind a vehicle or one stops quickly in front of you the red lights are not coming on on the ¿ and activating the driver assisted braking. They have not been able to find any trouble and they say everything is working correctly. The said also the front crash sensors are not working and being too close to the vehicle front of them. I believe Ford has engineered system poorly and it could be a danger to many families depending on this it is my belief that this should be looked into quickly prevent any possibility of a rear end crash and to warn them before the collision occurs. It is impossible to show you on this form a video to showing you how the system should perform. Hope you look into this matter quickly before it causes the bad rear end collision. Thank you.
The interior door handle became inoperable preventing occupant from opening the door from inside the vehicle. This condition may prevent the driver and other occupants from exiting the vehicle safely in the event of a crash or fire.

Dash board is curling up around the passenger side air bag. The front window defrost vent is coming out of the dash board . We have had the door handles break in half replaced . This is a safety issue the dash could come apart at any time or the passenger air bag could go off? w/ the front window vent out of the cut out in the dash this part on the driver side up could pop up and cause the window to break .

As I opened the door, I pulled the knob to open and heard a click. I felt a click and now the knob does not open the door. I have to open the door on the outside.
This is a complaint about your commercial. We try to teach or children to be tolerant of others and your commercial showing adults talking at the play ground shows just the opposite. The woman sitting with her son is definitely being made to feel like an outsider. I filled in the above blank with vehicle info only so it would be sent.
In a nut shell the car would not accelerate properly it kept dying out every time I would mash on the accelerator. Went to autozone and had a scanner put on the vehicle and a number of codes came back pointing to the throttle accelerator control when looking for the part it came back as the entire throttle body. Then come to find out the part had to be ordered, then it could nto be ordered from any retailer, went to the dealer one day to get the part and it was purchaseable, went back the next day to find it was a recall on that part went to another dealer to have the recall honored and they gave me this spill about the cost of a diagnostic test, saying it had to be done before they could know for sure if it was the throttle body. Then later that day they call back saying it was some kind of air hose that a rat had chewed through. Sounds like a bunch of hoorah to me. Tell me what do you think.
Every time engine starts, Ford Fusion dash displays two (2) fault codes: cross traffic system fault, and check rear park aid. Both fault alerts clear after pressing controls on the steering wheel. However, both, the rear park aid, and the cross traffic system stopped working. Each provides unique audible buzzing¿ alerts when auto is in reverse to warn of an impending crash/contact with a person or object. Two safety system features that no longer worked. The 2010 Ford Fusion was out of warranty, (4 years old, less than 8,500 miles on odometer) so I had to pay the dealership about $150. 00 to diagnose the problem. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a broken, and non-working speaker in the top of the rear seat. The cost to replace this speaker would be approximately, $350. 00, and there would be no guarantee that this will fix the 2 problems, although the mechanic said he was 98% sure the diagnostic was correct. Ford motor company offered to pay $200 toward the repair. Result: two safety systems are now working, but I had to pay $300. 00 of the $500. 00 cost to diagnose and repair these safety system features. A speaker in the top of the rear seat¿ is a part of an auto that an owner expects would last for the life of the auto, and certainly more than 8,500 miles on an odometer. Since this speaker is an integral part of both safety systems, not subject to any wear and tear, its failure to work/operate as designed is an obvious design or product fault, and something that Ford motor should repair at its expense.
1. Lane keeping departure system presents a danger to cyclists & pedestrians. Now that I am aware, I turn the system off; however, the steering wheel puts up a good fight when I tried to provide the cyclists room--an unnecessary issue that could of caused serious bodily harm or death. 2. The vehicle does not get the mpg as promised on the sticker: a great deal of unnecessary money was lost. 3. The electrical a/c unit no longer generates cold air, but the fan still runs.
I was turning left into a driveway and my car lost acceleration but did not quit running. I pulled over to the side of street and turned the car off for a few minutes and the car started back up with no problem. There was no check engine light or any other indicator that something was wrong. It happened again same day same thing. It worries me that I might be killed the next time. I called the Ford dealership and was told this has happened to several of their customers but no recalls are on record. This is very dangerous and Ford should take a close look at this before someone is killed or seriously injured.
2010 Ford Fusion, maintenance light comes on and all gas/throttle is cut to rough idle with no response. This incident has almost caused accidents to to stalling while trying to cross roads. You have to remove the key and restart 1-4 times before the light goes away and you can use the throttle, all while it may shut off again after you get moved just a little way.
Driver door lock jams and gets stuck leaving you locked inside the vehicle. In the event of a need to disembark the vehicle you have to power down the windows and pull the latch from the outside of sedan. I've complained to dealership and even they are surprised that Ford has not announced a recall on a common issue that they have witnessed. Many complaint on the internet as well regarding the same issue. Please help get this recalled. Please help before more people are trapped in this vehicle.
I was very worried when my car appeared to just turn off as I was slowing down from the interstate. I thought it was a fluke, bad connection and hoped it would never do it again. Car did start back up with no issues, that day. Unfortunately, it happened a lot on Saturday 7/20/13. I parked the car and never drove it Sunday. Called Ford first thing Monday - 7/22/13 and they were too busy to help. I had to take my car to a non dealership and they confirmed it was the the throttle body. I had previously researched and wrote down the codes that would possibly come up. As the other company stated this is a known issue, I thankfully have an extended warranty to cover cost but I was advised that this is around $1,000. Ford is charging me my deductible for a known saftely issue that has not been recalled? why? when? im hoping by adding to the list we can make sure they take care of their customers before they issue arises rather than after we are stuck on the side of the road. Ive been without a car for 2 days and no concern of Ford. I need a reliable car, as im still paying for it. . Read more...
The car began to stall on the freeway, so I had to drive it off the freeway after it had turned off twice. The first time, it went off in the middle of the freeway as I luckily veered to the side and no one was hurt. I took it to be serviced. It turns out there was a faulty throttle control: the throttle actuator was stuck closed (p2111), and also would get stuck open (p2112). This must have happened while I was on the freeway. The auto service center ran the tests and tested my vehicle after replacing that throttle assembly and now my car runs back to normal. Also, my rear parking aid back up tone is out of order. Sometimes it just beeps constantly and there is nothing behind the vehicle. It seems to be working in order, but once in a while it does that.
While taking a freeway exit ramp, an alert popped up on my dashboard and my steering immediately became labored. I wasn't doing anything unusual at the time, so my immediate assumption was that I had a flat tire. I began to slow as I neared the exit ramp, and at this point my dashboard showed a "power steering assist fault" error and a "service advancetrac" error message, which resulted in the loss of all power steering. At this point I pulled off the highway and into a parking lot, shut off my car, and let it rest for approximately 15 minutes while I read the Ford owner guide for more information. After inspecting the engine and finding nothing unusual, I started the car and the power steering had returned. I have not experienced this issue again and it has been 24 hours, but I'm still weary of traveling at higher speeds lest my power steering suddenly fail again.

The first time I was driving was may 11, 2013 I was going 40 miles an hour. All of a sudden the car starting slowing down to zero and the wrench light came on so I pulled off the road. I turned the car completely off and restarted the car after a few min. This time it got me home with no issues. This happened again today June 12, 2013. I was driving about 35 miles an hour and it just quit (throttle power outage) scared the day lights out of me once more. Again, I pulled over and restarted the car after a pause. I then drove immediately to bo beuckman of west county, ellisville, mo. They put a call into Ford hotline. I waited for an hour they still did not return a call. Randy told me that he thought it maybe a throttle issue. He called for the part and it is on back order. (that is not a good sign) I told him I did not feel comfortable driving the car---afraid someone might hit me if it stalls again. He could not give me a loaner car or satisfaction, just took my cell number and will call back when he hears from Ford. On line, I see this is a major issue. Why wasn't there a recall for replacing the throttle body. I am very upset with Ford and scared to drive my car until they find out what it is for sure and the back order issue. Please help me.
Drivers door latch is not working from the inside. Must lower window and open from outside. Car was parked when incident happen.
I saw on news that you were investigating power steering issues on the Ford Fusion 2012. This is a problem I have been having with my Fusion 2012 almost from the beginning. The vehicle was purchased with less than 10 miles on it and the issue started happening around the second month. I hear a ding and then the power steering goes out, the brakes paddle requires a lot of pressure to engage, and the accelerator paddle is not as responsive. Two error messages appear on the display, "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrac. " I mentioned it to the service department at the Ford dealer and he ask me to take a picture of the messages next time it happens and bring them in. I took pictures and brought them in, I'm then told that I have to bring the vehicle in while the error messages are showing in order for the mechanic to diagnose the problem. This will be almost impossible to do because after a restart the errors go away. I'm glad to see that this issue is finally being investigated.

My sister was driving my 2011 Ford Fusion to go out of town , when getting back into town, she pulled into macdonalds, put shift in park. While sitting in car, we were taking food orders from passengers, one in front passenger side of car and one in back passenger side. We, my sister who was driving and I who own the car, got out of autombile , we went into macdonalds stood in line, when we got up to the counter to order, someone yelled " that car is rolling backwards" and the car rolled backwards into the side of a white truck, damanging the passenger side door on the truck, no damage on Ford Fusion. The car was running as to leave the air conditioner on because it was so hot out. I was in the resturant and not even near the Ford Fusion at the time of roll back. I have been driving for over 53 years and know when a car is in gear, this Ford Fusion jumped out of gear somehow, it was in gear. Even where it was parked was on a small incline. When taking the Ford Fusion to Ford dealers, I was told that it could'nt have jumped out of gear, it had to have not been in park. Now remember this car was running with the air on, didn't roll back when we were taking orders for food, and then we stood in line in the resturant befor the car rolled backwards. This was reported as an accident on my sister's insurance, how can this be , how do they know I wasn't going to drive my car the rest of the way home,we were only 1 mile from home. And besides the car didn't even roll back for aproxmontey 6 minutes. This has to be reported as so it doesn't happen to anyone else.
This car was purchased on June 27,2011. On December 3, the on board navigation systen was used for the first time. If I was aware of the road interstate 84 that I was traveling, if I had not know interstate 84 the on board system would have had me make a turn where there was none. After a return to the dealer, a call to Ford and a call to the manufracture of the system that Ford is installing all three insist it is up to date. This defect is going to lead to fatality if someone does follow the on board navigation system. The system also could not find the address of my destinastion. I checked with the establishment that I was going to and they said that their address was changed five years ago. There I beleive that the system that Ford is selling is many years out of date.
Passenger side air bag bulging out of the console afraid it is going to discharge at anytime and hurt myself or passenger this is dangerous. Also front driver side lock decided to break and only way to exit is to roll down window also has potential to be dangerous. Why is there not a recall on all these dangerous items that seem to reappear on every complaints listed.
Similar to the 2010 Fusion problem of stuck accelerator, I have had this same problem with the 2007 Ford mustang gt. This problem has occurred ever since I received the mats in June of 2007 and has occurred numerous times! the all-weather mat is sitting on top of the standard mat and slips forward. When the accelerator is depressed fully, it does get stuck under the all-weather mat. In one incident, I was on a freeway going to pass a vehicle. When I floored the accelerator, it stuck! in a mustang, you can imagine the amount of acceleration involved and I was up over 120mph in seconds! I had to turn off the engine to begin deceleration. Frightening!.
