The accessory protocol interface module (apim) fails after a few years, leaving the car phone inoperable on the sync system, forcing the user to manually dial and place calls on their cell phone while driving, which has become illegal in many states as it takes the drivers eyes off the road for periods at a time. The Ford Fusion also has issues with leakage in the trunk. I was under the assumption that I was the only one, until searching the internet to find that various Fusion owners have experienced the same issue. I believe this is a safety issue, because it may start to affect the lights in the trunk or any other electrical systems that run through it, start to rust areas in the trunk, and cause mold if not properly dried immediately.

As I was driving the wrench symbol came on (see manual), then abs, traction control, engine fluid temp, no directionals, no heat or directionals, no dash lights, low tire pressure, and hill assist lights all came on and off. I was doing highway speeds. While this is a new to me car I have always had Fords including an excursion and more recently an 07 focus that died at 300,000. I never had any issues with them albeit they were both new. I am totally disappointed in this vehicle and it really has me thinking about never buying a Ford again.

At random times when the car is departing on city streets or highway, the car would stop shifting out of second gear. I would manually shift it to neutral then back to drive and it would drive normal through the first gear then shift to second gear and stay in second gear until I stop and repeat the process, first gear then second gear then stuck and repeat. No one has been able to find out what's wrong with my car's drivetrain system. Multiple certified mechanics have informed me to contact Ford for recalls on this car's powertrain system however Ford says they have no recalls on this model. This seems like a manufacturing defect and is a very dangerous problem since it happens unexpectedly at random time.

I stopped to get gas, put my car in park, and shut the car off. It started rolling forward as I was trying to get out. I leaped back in and hit the brake and put the emergency brake on. After that, the car wouldn't start because it was registering that the car was in reverse even though the gear shift was in park. I went into the gear shift area by pulling off the center console and manually put it in neutral so I could start the car and drove it to the Ford dealership for them to look at it. I did some research and saw that similar issues were found in 2013 and newer Ford Fusions and they were recalled. I'm thinking the 2012 year Ford Fusion should be included in this recall.

The front passenger side door came unlatched while the car was in motion with a passenger sitting on that side and two people in the back seat. The door does not stay shut and one person had to drive it back home on the highway while the other person manually tried their best to hold the door shut the whole time. Passengers were uninjured and got lucky that there wasn't another car in the lane next to it while this happened. Called north central Ford dealership in richardson,TX as well as Ford motor company and neither parties are willing to help unless we pay for the door out of pocket as they claimed this specific car was not part of all the recalls that similar Fusion's and focus's have been having. This family also owns a 2012 Ford focus that same thing happened and was part of the recall and door was replaced by Ford. Ford refuses to understand and comprehend the severity of this life threatening issue and help their customers so that they can save money. Our lives were in danger and it's not a matter that needs to wait till more people die for it to be recalled. It's been 4 days and Ford gave us a case number and said they will look into it and we still don't have a car or a solution and this car is still in the house garage.

My family and I drove to the beach and we parked. Then when were driving home on the freeway I lost power in the steering wheel. It took all my strength/ muscle to keep control of car. That is when a light came on. I managed to get home at that point we pulled out the manual to look up the symbol. It too about 1 hour along with the internet just to figure that it was the power assisted system. It stated that the steering would be with out power and could potential lose control all together. We immediately called to have it towed from home to dealer after looking up recalls I noticed their was a recall for the same thing that happen to me but on the east coast. However my VIN number said my car was not part of that recall. But the year make model was. It is my belief that Ford should be responsible to fix this issue not only because of that but even though my car is a 2013 it have less than 30,000 miles on it. Showing it was not driven much or missed used. It is obviously a defect in part or manufacture installation or whatever. Very disappointed in my Ford dealers and company for not fixing it and making me do so espacial because there is a recall on it out there showing it is a defect.

Display read see manual, service advance trac. Vehicle put into park and restarted. Unknown. Vehicle has shut off 7 times, date provided is the last date the vehicle shut off. This issue has been going on for over a year. Vehicle does not store codes. Dealer says there is nothing they can do because the vehicle "doesn't throw a code" been to the dealer 4 times and there has been no attempt to repair. Notified Ford motor company two separate times - Ford has closed my case because the dealer cannot duplicate the problem. Currently vehicle has a flight recorder installed by the dealer.

The problem that created the unsafe condition was road conditions, neither airbags deployed, vehicle first hit the right side of the bridge the went across lanes hit the right side the ended up horizontal in the roadway when struck by an f150. I believe airbags should have deployed causing less damage to my daughter and her friend as in the owners manual states it as a safety feature.

I was notified of recall 18s20 for my for Fusion around mid August. On August 29, after getting gas the shifter would shift to drive but the car would not shift at all and therefore we were unable to drive it. My husband was able to get it to manually shift by tinkering with the engine shift, and we were able to put it in drive and drove to north central Ford in richardson texas. There we were told that it was the recall issue but they would be unable to fix it or help us because they did not have the go ahead form Ford motor company or the parts. However, they said that if we paid full price to fix it, $700 dollars, they would be able to fix it for us and when Ford approved the fix then we would be reimbursed. We didn't have the $700, so the manager jim ayo explained that there was nothing they could do. This resulted in loss of wages for a full day's job and a car that is not running or usable. I am baffled at the fact that it is a Ford issue from a recall but I am expected to fix it. The approximate fix timeframe is July 2018 or after. I would like a solution ASAP as this is my vehicle for traveling to work.

Car was stationary. Both door handles within months of each other have broken. Drivers side door you can not get out from the inside but can from the outside. Passenger side door you can get in both ways but the handles are floppy and don't retract and stay in. Have to manually push them down and lock the door.

I sent this to Ford company: dear mr. Hackett, I would like to address about my 2016 Ford Fusion problem that happened yesterday, July 4, 2018. I was driving from my grocery shopping when all of a sudden my car will not accelerate anymore and it was sliding backward. Not sure if sliding backwards was due to slightly uphill or another problem on top of car wouldn't drive anymore. On my dashboard a wrench drawing appeared with a message �refer to your manual�. This happened at the intersection of redwood pkwy and oakwood in vallejo CA. This was very dangerous. I put the car on park �p� turned off the ignition and set the e-break with my lights hazard on. I had to call 911 to avoid accident. They sent a police patrol to escort me while my car is blocking the traffic. You see my car was bought brand new and only have less than 5k milage. This kind of problem should not happened. I googled 2016 Fusion to see common problems and this is one of them. Your company must be aware of this, yet, it continue to happen. I hope Ford is not waiting for somebody to perish before taking actions, I had my car brought to Ford Lincoln fairfield CA. I am a single earner and starting today I have to take uber to get to park and ride since this is the only car I have. I want action from your company pertaining to this kind of problem. On Friday, June 29th 2018, I remote started my car and when I got inside the car I was presented with the wrench icon and it said to see the manual. I checked the manual and it said that it had something to do with a powertrain fault. Light went off about 3-5 later. As I was driving, I came to a red light and when it turned green, I gave it gas and the car wanted to stall (rpm levels dropped to 500 or lower rpm). It did it again the same day, but at a later time. Also, when I start braking the car's rpm levels goes up to 3-4k rpms when braking from 70mph and when braking from 40mph. Occasionally it did it at different speeds. I have proof on video, but can't upload them here due to format.

From the day I first drove my car off the lot it was a 2013 Ford Fusion s it's gray. I started the engine and then sat in the driver's seat before I put it in drive I hear a loud thumping noise generating from the back end of my car. And it's still doing it 4 months later non-stop and I cannot figure out what's going on also there is a rusted hole in my muffler. Also often times when I am driving when accelerating the transmission has a huge lag in it and sometimes it sticks without shifting to the proper gear to accelerate, sometimes I have to actually manually shift the gears. And it gets very rough when it slips and slides and makes a big drop which also shakes the entire vehicle and it also impairs the driving performance. And another thing is the seat belt, the rear middle seat of my vehicle when installing a child safety seat the middle seat belt got all jammed up and would not work at all. I had to replace it with an aftermarket seat belt because Ford didn't want to fix it for free and wanted to charge me upwards of $400 just for the seat belt that wasn't my fault that I got damaged I just installed the child seat like the local police showed me to and then once I got it out the seat belt it's not working. They say it's not a part of the recall which I already have 4 recalls on my vehicle that is not yet fixed.

I was driving about to make a right turn when power steering assist fault displayed on the dashboard then my wheel was hard to turn. . . I pulled over to the gas station to get power steering fluid can't find the reservoir to add fluid called Ford dealership in stone wall to ask if this have anything to do with the recalls because I came in for my recalls that specified power steering he says that not the same problem I have. . I want to know it he's correct also few months before this pulled into at gas station car will not shift to park had to manually put it in park once in park it will shift to reverse and drive but will not go in park what can that b?, and is it something we need to pay to fix ?.

I purchased this car on 8/31/16 and on 11/28/16 the dreaded dead battery problems started. I took in it, they replaced the battery on 11/28 said that it was probably just a faulty battery from the manufacture and that it happens, rarely but it happens. On 12/31/17 I went to start my car and it again would not start. Each time that this has happened, I have to manually unlock my car by taking off a piece of the door handle to expose the key hole and the dome lights or dash lights do not come on, that's my dead giveaway that it wont start. When I took it to the shop this time they informed me that the car was manufactured on 8/1/16 and sat too long without being driven so it caused the battery to mess up(even though I had the battery replaced a month earlier, and drive every single day to work). I got the car back and I bet you cant guess what happened on 2/4/17. . . My car was dead. Wouldn't start, wouldn't unlock. . . Dead. This time they we're "99. 9% sure" they fixed the problem by updating my power train control module. They hadn't, it died again on 5/22/17. When I took it in, they updated the powertrain control module and sent me on my way, so I'm just waiting for it to die again honestly. Then. . . I told them my transmission is slipping on 5/22/17- they ignored it when doing updates and it wasn't resolved. On 6/13/17 I took it in because the transmission was still slipping so they updated the powertrain control module again. . . Didn't fix it(obviously) and then on 6/22/17 I took it in because I almost got into an accident due to the transmission slipping and sliding my car into oncoming traffic trying to shirt gears(its automatic) and they replaced a pressure valve, not sure why you would need to replace a part like that on a brand new car anyway, but the transmission still acts up.

Takata recall ac/heat continues to go out randomly. Ac/heat/defroster is not working. Have to manually lock each door upon exit of vehicle because automatic switch not working, the car shutdown and I cant enter the vehicle at times the key will not open my car door, I had to enter my car through the trunk at 3a. Engines problems, electrical problems, back tail/brake light continues to go out often, and other issues. Sometimes key wont turn in the ignition and brakes lock up.

This a complaint about our Ford Fusion 2016. The problem has started couple months ago, while driving, and sometimes as we start the car, it ripple and kick and the check engine light and see manual light turn on and after 30 min. To an hour they turn off. The engine has completely died on us twice. We have taken the car to Ford once and they've told us that the problem has been fixed, but it's still doing the same thing after 2 weeks. This is a safety issue especially since my family, wife and 2 daughters, ride in this vehicle. The same problem happened yesterday, Sunday the 30th of October and we have taken the car in this morning.

Wrench light appeared on dash and while driving the car on the city streets the car has a sluggish start and then a bit of a burst and then light power as I accelerate. Also I have had to change door handles and locks 3 times since I have purchase. The handles just snap off. The car will unlock but I have to manually lock most locks and open the car by putting down the window.

The inside door handles break very easily have replaced twice. When broken and have to wait for replacement the door will not lock even manually and I feel unsafe due to someone having access to car whilr at stop,light or when parked in public areas.

The driver's side front door latch does not work. I have to either roll the driver's side window down and open door from outside or climb out on passenger side. Also I have to manually open (with key) or lock front driver side door.

I parked my vehicle and went to open my doors and the driver and passenger sides doers would not open from the inside. I had to proceed to unlock the door manually and roll the window down, place my arm out the window to open the door from the outside. The passenger had to do the same for their door as well. We are both senior citizens with disabilities. Are there any recalls on this issue? I'm concerned for the safety and well being of me and any passengers that happen to be in the vehicle in the case of an accident where as I have to exit the vehicle in an emergency.

Throttle body had to be replaced when engine wouldn't rev above 1000 rpm. . . Limped a few miles then had to have it towed because it's a manual and it would stall. . Despite all the info on NHTSA and other sites about the extended warranty Ford was required to provide on these, they have said our cars repair isn't covered. $300 later. . After a tow and a ruined trip to pick up our daughter from her internship in nyc, I'm pretty disappointed.

The inside drivers side door latch did not lock when the vehicle was in motion (the other three door latches did). I was driving approximately 12 mph on a residential street. The door latch remains in the extended open position. The door can only be opened from the outside to exit or enter the vehicle. The door can not be locked manually or using the key fob. I am unable to exit the vehicle normally. To exit I have to roll down the window, open the door from the outside, then in order to roll the window up again I have to get in through another door, insert the key and reach over to the drivers side. These are safety issues.

2012 Fusion and we have already changed the rotors. . . && multiple tires. . . Always getting the tire pressure symbol && now there is an eletrical problem for the power steering. . . Many of the fuses are missing from where the manual said they should be. . . May have to pay thousands to get it fixed && still its just a 2012. . . Id expect something like this on a car thats 7-10 years old but not 3. . .

The horn no longer works. We have changed the fuse several times and nothing has helped. The manual has no information about it.

After parking vehicle and re-entering, I discovered the driver door handle locking mechanism is broken. I am unable to lock the door either manually or with the key fob.

The car was parked for 7 days without being driven and on the 8th day I went to use it and I could not open the door with the remote control. I was able to open it with the manual door key. I tried to start the car but there was no light on the dash board instrument and car did not start. There was no sound of the starter motor. I turned on the radio and it was dead nothing on the radio panel. I realized that the battery may be dead. I opened the hood and measure the battery with a digital multi-meter and there was only 2 v DC - the battery needed to have 12 v DC to start the engine. Since I had a battery, I charged the battery for 3 hours and then I was able to start the engine. I used the car for 4 days and left it park for 8 days to see if that would happen again - but it did not. I said to myself that if I had left the car at the airport for a week and I may not be able to get home with the 2015 Ford Fusion. I said to myself that telling it to the dealer and they may not believe me so that is why I am writing this report to NHTSA.

My wife went to exit the vehicle and the interior handle gave way. The handle still operates, but you must now manually lock the door. A few weeks later I went to exit the vehicle from the drivers seat and that door handle broke completely. Now I have to lower my window and use the outside handle to open the drivers door. Last month the rear door on the passenger side stopped locking automatically and electronically. You must manually lock that door as well.

Trouble with transmission clutch assembly. Was told Ford put in manual clutch in automatic cars. Hesitation upon acceleration, rolls backward when in drive on incline, does not shift right, "chugs". Purchased 2014 car in early 2015, used. Feel car sales business should have known and not sold car in this condition, or have had it fixed first. Per Ford service station, parts are on backlog for 3-4 months. Even though they tell me is it not a dangerous condition, I feel it is dangerous on highway when trying to pass and not getting enough acceleration.

My back door lock on my driver side stopped automatically locking and unlocking unless I do it manually. It wasn't a huge issue since I don't have a lot of people in my backseat. Last night, when I got home from work, I reached to open my door and nothing happened. I thought I was tired enough to be mistaken, but it happened. My door will now only open from the outside. The lock still locks and unlocks automatically when I use the button, but I have to roll down my window to get out. This can be hazardous if someone is locked in the car during a wreck, fire, gas leak, etc.

Driver side, rear door opened, passengers exited. I, myself, closed the door behind them and the door simply flew back open. Door will not latch. Door will not shut. Not manually, not by key. Locking mechanism on car will not work. I had to drive home in the back seat and literally hold the door shut so that my passengers would not fall out of the car. I have 3 children and one on the way. I cannot sit in the back and hold the door shut if I need to use the car. Car is well maintained, all service's done strictly by Ford. I was qouted a price range of $3-400 to get it fixed.

When driving on the highway and roadway, such as bridges this summer, my vehicle stalled several times, lost power coming almost to a complete stop, putting my family and I at risk. When I pressed on the gas to accelerate, the engine begin to race, causing the "check engine light" to come on. It also jerked and skidded as I tried to maneuver the steering. To avoid accidents on these occasions, the vehicle had to be pulled over and subsequently, parked. Highway driving was also avoided most of the summer for safety and concern. There is also an issue with the front driver side airbag, as recent as this summer, the seal became distorted, twisted and cracked in the dashboard. Lastly, about 2 weeks ago, the rear door lock on the driver side no longer works, the door must be opened manually from the inside of the car. These are valid vehicle defects and safety issues and Ford must step up and do the right thing for all parties of interest.

I was driving down the road and the wrench sservice light came on. I wasn't familiar with what that light meant. When I got home I looked in the owners manual for suggestions. I got new gras, made sure the gas cap was tight, and waited for 3 cold starts to see if it would go off. Then we went to leave bin the car and vit wouldn't go, even with the decelerator pushed all the way down. I called a Ford dealership to have it towed there. In doing research this appears to be common with Ford Fusions and I feel there should be changes or a recall. My research told me what was wrong before the car left the driveway as the issue is so searchable on the internet!.

I had just started and was exiting a retail establishment. I was driving down a slight incline approaching a stop light when the car started shaking and dramatically lost speed. The wrench light came on which according to the manual indicates a possible powertrain/transmission issue. I turned the car off and then restarted (in the middle of the road) and drove to a safe location. I was lucky that at the time I was driving at a slow speed and approaching a stop light. If a car had been behind me someone would have been injured.

Traveling down the road at 60 mph my car began to feel sluggish, started surging, felt like the engine was going to shut down. I got pulled off the side of road and looked in manual after seeing the wrench icon has was on the instrument panel. I turned car off and back on again. I was hesitant to restart but did. The wrench icon went off and I went back home set an appointment for the following day with the Ford dealership. My car has been there a week today. I was told the throttle body was defective and was on backorder. I am still waiting to get my car after one week.
