36 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/15/2016

When I have gone on roads that are uneven or bumpy my brakes would not work and go all the way to the floor. They would be fine after a while. I went over some railroad tracks and it happened again where my brakes go all the way to the floor. Its has been that way for about 3 months now. I have had the brakes looked at and new pads put on. Its still not fixed and I still really have no brakes and takes a lot to stop. Even pumping the brakes doesn't work.

38 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/10/2016

After applying the brakes with much force to stop suddenly, the brake pedal remains soft/spongy. The brake pedal has remained soft/spongy since the event. The brakes still work and there is no warning or indicator light that indicating a problem with the brakes. I changed all four brake pads and the brake pedal remains soft/spongy. I have had to adjust my stopping distances.

39 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/18/2016

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle's would fail without warning. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the brake pads and shoes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact then took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake pads and shoes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired a second time however, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was not able to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,492. Gl.

40 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/17/2016

Whenever I need to brake, the pedal goes to the floor, and there is minimal resistance from the brakes. This applies to abs situations (rainy, icy weather) and dry conditions when brakes are needed suddenly (highway slowdown, animal jumping in the road). This applies to traveling at any mph, including highway and city driving. The pedal also drops to the floor when the car is in park. Pumping the pedal is required to feel any resistance, but it is necessary every time the brakes are needed. Time and distance needed to slow down are exponentially more than even a year ago. Brake pads were replaced 3 years ago, fluids were flushed, replaced, and bled 4 months ago. Auto body shops report all is well and that there is no reason my brakes should be so slow to react or the pedal should drop to the floor.

41 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/07/2016

Starting about 4 months ago, the brakes started acting extremely weird. When you are driving and push in the brakes to stop, the brake pedal pushes like a sponge and wont stop. At first when you push it, it starts to brake, but then quits working and requires you to push it to the floor. This will usually go on 1-2 weeks, and then will start working like normal. About 1-2 weeks each month, the brakes act up and you feel like you wont stop. This happens whether you are going 15 mph or 60 mph. This can happen at anytime, any place, any speed. I have taken this into a dealership, which they told me they thought new brake pads and rotors would fix. $400 later and nothing fixed.

42 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

After hitting a bumpy road my brakes went to the floor and stopping power just went away. Checked at shop. All pads replaced. Fluid changed completely twice. Master cyl and hoses not leaking, now I have really weak braking system from the federally mandated system 49 cfr 571. 135 - standard no. 135 that is installed in my car and cant get it repaired. Do I just throw a car I bought brand new away? mileage 88000 started now at 92000. New tires and talked to Ford house but no one will commit to any answers. Have a student trying to drive this car in college and around town. Roads are rough from drought and constantly trying to pump brakes but it makes no difference while driving. If just starting off for the day a lot of times you have good brakes until something happens and they just go away. Hard to watch road, speed people and pump brakes all the time. Lets go . Step up and do your job. . . . . . . . . . . No injuries yet close calls at traffic lights.

43 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/13/2016

I was braking when I caught a pot hole and the brake pedal went to the floor. Since then the brake pedal is soft and will randomly go to the floor. I took it to a Ford dealer and they tried replacing the rear rotors and pads and flushing the fluid but it did not work. I took it back and they ended up replacing the hydraulic control unit with a used one. It still doesn't feel right but it's better than it was.

44 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/02/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds over a small bump in the road, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard without warning. The contact pulled over, shut off the vehicle, pumped the brake pedal, and restarted the vehicle. Once restarted, the brake pedal returned to normal. The vehicle was taken to sas tire and auto (located at 850 west bristol, indiana, 46514), but the failure was unable to be duplicated and an error code could not be found. The contact had the brakes, rotors, and pads repaired by an independent mechanic (chuck's auto garage). The failure recurred two more times while driving over a bump in the road. The manufacturer was notified and provided case number: cas-12555603. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

45 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/11/2016

Between 55-65k the brake pedal became soft/mushy and sporadically would go all the way to the floor/firewall when trying to stop; sometimes rolling through a stop sign or a traffic light. At first, it was sporadic; then, the brakes needed to be pumped every time before stopping or the car would continue to travel as the brake pedal would go all the way to the floor/firewall. Eventually pumping the brakes did not work and I had a mushy brake pedal with no brakes at all that would go right to the floor and the car would not stop. I had new rotors and pads installed and bled the brakes but this did not correct the problem. After researching and diagnosing the problem I bought and installed a used hydraulic control unit from the identical make, year and model as my car. I could not afford a new unit at $880. 00 dollars plus tax and dealer installation $$$$. The brakes worked fine after the used hydraulic control unit was installed. The problem is that after an anti-lock breaking event a valve in the unit remains stuck in the open position and causes the soft breaking.

46 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/12/2016

The first time this happened was 3-4 years ago. My wife was braking at a stop light and hit a small pothole in which the break petal went all the way to the floor and she was able to come to a full stop even though it took a lot longer to do so. She pulled over and I had to pick her up and took the car into a local break repair chain. By the time they were able to check it out the breaks were working fine again. When we described the issue they could not find any reports of this on the internet. I believe this was the first time the break fluid was changed since the locations indicated wet or dirty break fluid can cause these symptoms. This happened a few more times to my wife and she decided she would no longer drive the car. I then started driving and again in a similar scenario in which I was breaking and ran over a manhole cover the breaks went to the floor and was difficult to stop the car. I again took it to another break specialist franchise and they could not find an issue with the car or on the internet although the breaks pedal has become soft and has remained that way. Break fluid was changed again for being dirty. My breaks have continued to be soft and will replicate the issue when braking and hitting a bump but appears to be only when the bump hits the front right wheel. I need to get my break pads replaced now and decided to research this issue again and I am finding that this is a very common problem. Why hasn't Ford recalled this product or doing anything to make it right with their customers.

47 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Driver seat, heater got super hot to the point of burning a few time, then stopped working altogether by 68k miles. Brakes, right side front completely wore thru outside pad only by 48k miles, right rear did same thing by 70k. In both instances only one pad was shot. Why only one pad wearing to backing plate, looks like pads not releasing. Electrical, all windows, including moon roof, open by themselves while nowhere near car and it's locked.

48 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

The brakes are "spongy", slow to stop, go to floor, etc. The pads have been replaced, rotors/drums serviced, fluid checked. All is in good repair but problem still persists. This happens whether driving on surface streets or interstates, on dry and wet roads. It's been a problem for almost a year. I was recently advised the brake booster needs to be replaced but while researching the cost of this, I came across many other complaints of the same problem, spanning several model years. This is obviously a factory defect that Ford motor company needs to address and issue a recall on.

49 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

Rear brake pads and rotors need replaced at only 37,000 miles.

50 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

Upon exiting a highway and approaching a right turn exit ramp and driving over a rough patch of road under construction. While turning and simultaneously applying the brakes the abs system engaged and then the brake system suddenly failed with the pedal going to the floor making it very difficult to stop the car. I arrived at my location less than a mile away and safely parked the car. After my work conference (7 hours later) I retuned to my car and the brakes pressure returned, but remained very soft. Currently, when the car is now operated the brake pedal needs to be applied almost to the floor when descending a hill or coming to a complete stop on level ground. The car responds initially when the brake pedal is applied, but then goes soft as the car needs to come to a stop at less than 10mph. To find consistent pressure for braking the car responds best when the the brake pedal is depressed partially, then released and applied again. This method was adopted after the brake failure occurred. Brake pads and rotors are in good condition.

51 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/09/2015

Ever since I had to slam on the brakes to avoid someone else getting in an accident 6 months ago on the highway, the brakes have been very spongy. I have replaced brake pads and turned the rotors also bled the brakes. I can still press the pedal to the floor. Can't seem to find a fix. I'm a huge Ford fan, but this is just embarrassing and extremely dangerous for such a popular car and company. Sack up and make a recall for those of us who are true Ford lovers!.

52 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/29/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while coming to a stop on an uneven road, the brakes were unresponsive when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact pulled over to the road side. The contact mentioned that the brake had to be depressed multiple times before it became responsive. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. Jo.

53 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

I own stated Ford. Driving on highway rear brake failure. Tolwed to repair garage and rear rotors and pads replaced. Cost 380. 00 dollars. Only have 32,000 miles. We were lucky we were able to pull over to the side of road. This a safety hazard. Today my friend called and had the same problem. $360. 00 repairs. Rotors and pads replace. Both incident on major highways. . Have repair bill and old parts. Don't have knowlege to send info as requested. . I am 90 yrs old. Thank you.

54 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact took the vehicle in to the dealer for a check-up and it was found that the rear passenger side of the brake pads were metal on metal. The brake pads were replaced; however, 5,000 miles later, the brakes started to make a grinding sound again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and it was determined that the brakes needed to be replaced again. The dealer stated that the failure occurred because of the snow, but the contact stated the same failure occurred while in florida with nice weather. The contact spoke to the manufacturer and was informed that this was normal wear for the brake pads. The contact stated that the manufacturer refused to repair the vehicle. Each brake change lasted less then 14,000 miles. The failure mileage was 55,233.

55 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

I park on an incline so I normally set my parking brake for safety reasons. November 2014, temperatures had dipped below freezing and I went to release the parking brake to go to work, and I could tell that it did not release all the way. As I was driving I could tell something was holding me back because the car would not accelerate properly. Made it to the stop light leaving my neighboorhood and the rear right brake seized up entirely. It sounded like I was trying to do a burnout and it had the worst smell. I immediately called the dealership and told them what had happened and a tow truck was called. As they were working on it all they could find wrong was that the right rear brake pad had worn down to nothing and was grinding on my rotor. Changed brake pads and they sent me on my way after dropping about $400 on the repair. Not even two days later the temps dipped below freezing and the parking brake stuck again. For the next two months I did not use my parking brake and had intermittent problems only when the temperature had dipped below freezing. As of today January 2015, parking brake has not been used but right rear brake has seized up, yet again, the past two days as the temperature has been below freezing. I am terrified to drive this car in fear of the brakes completely failing and causing a collision. I have children and this has been a serious problem. This needs to be investigated.

56 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

I brought my car in to the dealers for a warranty issue. Upon checking the vehicle, they informed me the rear brake pads were worn to the metal and were damaging the rotors. They suggested it was unsafe as is and I should have the rear pads and rotors replaced ASAP. I drive long distances each day and usually get 70-80,000 miles before needing the front pads replaced and over 100,000 miles before needing new rotors replaced. I feel there is a major problem/malfunction with the rear brakes on Ford Fusions and they should be investigated and a safety recall issued.

57 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/23/2014

Just very concerned. The brake hub s get extremely hot and the brake pads were no good I have less than 20'000 miles on my 2009 Ford Fusion. The car is drove very little and is garage kept. I just don't understand the concept from Ford motor to make a vehicle that the brake hubs get hot and wear out the pads. I had Ford vehicles for years and never has been a problem. Why do you allow a problem like this to go on. . This is a safety concern too. My older Ford vehicles never did have brakes that you questioned whether or not you would be able to stop at a traffic light. Now I worry that it may not stop. Just a few months ago it almost didn't stop at a traffic light. When I applied the brakes it continued to roll and I rolled thru four car lengths before it finally stopped. I was so frightened !! I too noticed Ford is recalling some of the newer for Fusions for this problem. Suggest that they recall all vechicles that have the brakes like what is on the Fusion . . . . Why does someone need to loose their lives to get a problem like this fixed?? the automobile industry is failing the consumers and lacking safety standards . Usa automobile industry can do better than this.

58 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

After abs engaged the brake pedal is now very soft and requires that the pedal to be pushed completely to to floor. Approx 3months ago new brake pads and at least 2 rotors were replaced as well as the brake fluid was flushed. So I know that the brake system was in good shape at that time.

59 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

The parking brake on my manual 2010 Ford Fusion will freeze in place in temperatures below freezing. While the parking brake is disengaged and the indicator light goes off, the pads remain in contact with the rear tire, causing excessive heat, threat of fire, loss of emergency braking, or loss of control. This also causes excessive and premature wear / damage to the affected braking system. This problem is well documented online by Ford owners in northern climates.

60 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

Noticed a noise in the rear end of our car in December. Made appointment ASAP with dealership we purchased car at. Noise was worse on drive to dealership. Informed rear brakes were metal on metal. Had brake pads and rear rotors replaced and they ground down and fixed rear slides. On 03/18/2013 brakes were good with 22,454 miles. Lug nuts were replaced on 02/28/2012 because of 11s23 recall. Feel because car was built in mexico there was a defect in the rear brake disc and they were incorrectly built. We approached the Ford dealership and regional customer service and they told it was normal wear and tear. Not acceptable. I told them I would complain to your agency. Brakes should last much longer-very premature wearing.

61 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/15/2013

Brake pedal goes to the floor pads changed still doing same thing.

62 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Rear brake pads worn out at 21000 miles. Manual transmission so parking brake must be used whenever parked. Front brakes almost no wear. Also we have cold weather here. ?.

63 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/21/2012

My Ford Fusion was parked in the parking lot while shopping. Temperature approximately 15 degrees f. Before going into the store, I had set the parking brake, as the car was parked on a slight incline. Upon exiting the store and restarting the vehicle, I disengaged the parking brake. However, the right rear brake did not disengage. Instead, a loud grinding sound occurred. The brake eventually disengaged, but by this time, the brake rotor was extremely hot. This had occurred one time previously, also on a cold day when the parking brake was set. The vehicle was taken into the dealership, and the dealer confirmed that the right rear rotor had overheated and been damaged. Pads and rotors were replaced. Upon picking the car up from the dealership, I drove approximately 3 miles to home, and when I exited the car, the right rotor was very hot and the smell of burning brakes was present in the garage. The left rotor was cool enough that I could place a hand on it for an extended period of time. I was unable to even momentarily touch the right rotor. In this particular case, I had not engaged the parking brake, as the vehicle was picked up from the dealership and the parking brake was not engaged. Vehicle had previously had brake pads and rotors replaced only 13000 miles previously (38000 miles) due to excessive rear brake pad / rotor wear.

64 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

Got off the expressway and while stopped at light smelled "something". 3 blocks later at my house I felt the heat from the rear wheels on my legs and realized the smell was from rear brakes. Jacked up both rear wheels and found the wheels almost immovable. Rear pads worn down to 2-3mm! front pads still had 10mm of pad remaining on all four pads! no problem (or use of) with parking brake. Calibers had been sticking - dragging for quite some time to wear down to almost nothing while leaving front brakes with years left on them. Car was still in warranty.

65 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

Extreme over heating of left (drivers side) rear brakes leading to premature and uneven pad failure. Pads appear to have become so hot that there is ash present on them.

66 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/17/2012

Rear brake pads and rotors rust together when there is moisture in air and parking brake is used. Rear brake rotors rotted badly on inside edge. Right rotor completly failed brake pad draging. 16 inch alloy wheels.

67 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/14/2011

Poor brake response on 2010 Ford Fusion sport awd. When attempting to slow the vehicle in an emergency stopping situation, the brakes do not produce enough friction between the pads and rotors, thus does not activate abs unless on slippery or snow surface. The brakes do not have enough force to stop the vehicle in an emergency.

68 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/17/2011

Ever since I got the car (new) I noticed that even when the brake is fully depressed to the floor while driving on a smooth surface, not enough friction was being applied to rotors to cause the abs system to engage. There should be enough friction to lock the wheels forcing the abs to pump. The only time I can get the abs to engage is on uneven roads, and on snow and ice where the tires have less traction. Emergency stops are downright scary. It feels as tough im applying only 90% pressure when in fact im flooring the pedal. This occurs when pads are cold, warm or hot. I took it to the dealer. The tech drove it with me and agreed that it doesn’t seem right. We then took a new Fusion off the lot (was not a sport, but im not sure what version) and it had the same problem. Emergency stops are downright scary. I almost hit someone.

69 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/31/2010

At 2000 miles had car back for brakes. Its been back 8 times. They have cut the rotors and replaced pads and still jumps after about 5000 miles. Vibration in car that they couldnt find y. Replaced trottle body . There is an issue with the brakes they need to find out whats wrong. They have cut the rotors down to the point they replaced them and the ones on the front arent 6 months old and they cut them again.

70 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/26/2009

1908 Ford Fusion rear braking system, brake pads must be replaced at 25,000 miles. Rear rotors must be turned. Ford motor company refuses to admit problems after call to review issue with my purchased Fusion in 2008. Loss of rear braking can lead to incident's, crashes and injury. Dealer implied that this is an ongoing problem with taurus and Fusions. It is my understanding taurus has been recalled for rear brake problems associated with faulty brake pads.
