2 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

Break pedal becomes spongy after hitting a pothole. Currently at the dealership they are trying to replace the master break cylinder, but that didn't work. The next move is to replace the mcu. I have read multiple similar reports here to mine. I'm very concerned this is a factory defect that is revealing itself to be dangerous and costly to Ford consumers.

4 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/10/2018

On oct. 10, 2018, around 3:30-4:00 p. M. On a busy city street---it was rainy day-- ,I had to lam on my brakes to keep from hitting a person who stopped suddenly in front of me when the traffic light turned. I heard a pop sound. After that, I discovered I had no brakes. I was able to get home. At first I figured I had a master brake cylinder problem or a leak. I had a new brake master brake cylinder put in and the mechanic discovered the problem was not the master brake cylinder. He checked for leaks in the line, and there were no leaks. He said it was probably the abs and that I should take it to a dealership. I did so. They checked it and said the abs gasket had cracked and that a new abs had to be put in. The estimate was @ seventeen hundred dollars. I was unhappy. I contacted my insurance company and the representative was most helpful. I determined after research that as of April of this year (2018) some one million Ford Fusions were/or have been considered by the fed relative to brake failures. Most of those cars, however, had more than hundred thousand miles. My car has only 57,218. 2 miles, as photographed and established by the dealership and the insurance company. My insurance policy wouldn't cover this repair because it is termed mechanical. it seems to me that the abs shouldn't have failed in this case-- a car with so few miles on it. . Any help would be appreciated.

5 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/11/2018

Brake pedal is soft after abs activated resulting in unexpectedly increased stopping distance. I recently had the mast cylinder replaced to fix this, but the problem persists. After several hard pumps of the pedal, it's firmness is restored.

6 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/21/2017

I was driving my 08 Ford Fusion I went to stop at stop light my brake pedal went all the way to the floor to wear it felt like I had to push it all the way to the motor for it to stop. This has happened to me the total of four times in the 16months that I have had the car. Usually if you keep going forward then backwards the brake would come back but this last time the brake pedal never came back and is all the way to the floor. I took it to well known shop they changed mater cylinder also brakes and rotors. My brake pedal still goes all the way down this has also been bleed several times.

7 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/18/2017

This problem occurs while in motion, and only after the abs system is activated. After the abs system is activated the brakes get very soft. When in this state, the brake pedal goes almost to the floor before the brakes slow the car, and I am very concerned about stopping distance and also the extra time it takes to depress the brake that far. The system typically does not recover from this until the car is taken in for repair and even then, the repairs often do not fix the problem. Three times we have taken it in, the last two times to the dealer. New rotors (replaced twice), master and slave cylinders, pads, system flushing will sometimes temporarily fix the problem however it recurs. Thousands of dollars spent and the problem persists. We feel we have an unsafe car we cannot drive or sell to another person. Otherwise the vehicle runs well. This has been going on for two or three years. The problem most recently occurred after a snow event on 12/18/2017 however, it seem to happen every time the abs is engaged.

8 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/05/2017

Brake peddle goes to floor when stopping. The master brake cylinder was replaced and the brakes were bled but the problem still exists. I hear from others with this same car issue that it is a faulty abs pump and is very dangerous. Ford needs to do a recall on these units and don't wait until someone dies from not being able to brake.

9 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/10/2017

On 2/3/2017 I bought a 2008 Ford Fusion sel,,from a used car dealership an,about a month after while driving a lady pulled out in front of me an when I tried to apply my breaks they went about a inch or so from the floor board, was a very scary feeling, that I pray never happen's again! after barely missing I pumped the breaks for a few minutes, then peddle might of been about 3 to 4 inches from thethe floor. I called the used car dealer the next morning told him what happened ,an he tried to tell me it just needs new break pads and breaks bleed !. I replied back to him that breaks dont go from working 1 minute an the next minute to the floor,an I mentioned before the pads are that gone I would of heard a metal rubbing sound,he still insisted I take it to his mechanic which still put pads on an bleed the breaks, which didnt fix, after I came an to get it I asked if it was the master break cylinder or booster,an he replyed that he just had to put pads on it an bleed the breaks,. An he suppose to be a mechanic I thought to myself, and he said its ready to go,so I did a couple blocks an the breaks were the same ,so I went back tellig him that the breaks are still going to the floor so he says he asked to drive it he did an came back said its ok now, that I just need to pump the breaks on it because it had abs break system that needed pumped up awhile. Thats when I said like im going to have time to pump breaks when someone pulls in front of me or stops fast! so I left again praying the break peddle would stop going allmost to the floor! a week later I called the dealer again an he told me take back to his mechanic,so I did an when I returned to pick car up I asked what it was he tells me he put a new break booster on it. An that just fixed breaks enough to have a half of peddle on breaking, about two months later I was driving in a 35mph zone hit bump breaks went out,and again 3 x'.

10 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/03/2017

I was coming to a stop from a normal speed of about 30 miles per hour when my break pedal went straight to the floor. I had to swerve into the next lane to keep from running into the back of the car in front of me. I had to pump the breaks several times to come to a stop. I took my car to my mechanic and he replaced the break mastercylinder but that did not fix the problem. He did some research and concluded that the abs module is faulty and needs to be taken to the dealer for further repair. I can currently stop my car while driving but my break pedal has to be pushed nearly to the floor and I have to break from a significantly further distance.

11 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2006 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

Brake pedal, sometimes, would give, at times going to floor stop, while slowing and or turning on rough intersection areas and exits. My wife told me about this for ~6 months. When I would test drive the Fusion, the brakes worked fine. The Fusion was repaired at bolton Ford, lake charles, la. On Aug. 16, 2016 (97,750 mls. ) which entailed changing the mastercylinder and fluid flush. Trouble shooting the issue, I replaced all the brake pads and checked for leaks, fluid level, all looked normal. Next my local auto repair shop, checked brakes, for my wife said problem still there. Then to Ford dealership.

12 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/17/2015

The master brake cylinder/hydraulic pump and control module became faulty and failed at roughly 43000 miles. My mechanic informed me that this is typically a part that should not fail with this few miles and was suspicious when he called the local Ford dealer and they had over 10 in stock. He informed me that in his 20+ years he has not seen dealers have that many high dollar parts in stock and advised I file a claim with Ford motor. I did file a claim with Ford motor but was advised they were not aware of any wider issues with the master brake cylinder/hydraulic pump and control module on my make and model year. Ford motor case numbers- cas-8423129 and cas-8428833 I noticed that my master break cylinder failed when I started my car one morning and the break pedal went all the way to the floor. I had my car repaired at my local Ford dealer, covert Ford in austin, TX.

13 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/03/2015

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds and depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal traveled to the floor of the vehicle. The stopping distance increased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 52,046.

14 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

As has been documented dozens of times on several websites, I too, like others, experienced total brake failure by my 2010 Ford Fusion. Like other documented complaints, I too found that, in a situation where sudden braking is required, I experienced total brake failure. Normal braking on roads and streets has not resulted in brake failure for me; however, in the one situation where sudden braking was required, my 2010 Ford Fusion -- fully serviced solely and regularly (each ~5000 miles) by Ford service technicians since its purchase new in 2009, now at 81,000 miles -- I experienced: 1) no braking, 2) no slowing down, 3) no front-end-of-the-vehicle-diving-down when brakes were applied (inertia), 4) no skid marks on the dry pavement -- just utter and complete failure by the braking system in my 2010 Ford Fusion as I drove around a building (15-20 mph) and suddenly saw, braked, & hit a stationary pick-up truck on the road. At the scene of the crash, upon attaching the 2010 Ford Fusion with chains, the tow truck driver mentioned that he saw brake failure. Following the crash, I had a mechanic go with me to the salvage yard where my auto insurance company had the 2010 Ford Fusion towed; the mechanic did a 15-20 minute inspection, with a salvage yard employee watching, which indicated that, yes, indeed, the brakes had failed before there was the collision (the area of collision on the front right destroyed the abs area). While there did not appear to be any deficiencies in the brake lines, which were checked regularly by the Ford service technicians, there was failure involving the master brake cylinder at the time of sudden braking. Rather than being dry or dusty, the mbc was covered completely in goo. Not a sign of safety or properly-working parts. Despite these truths, my insurance company tells me I have to pay, since there has been no recall issued. Why not yet???.

15 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

The brakes on my 2008 Ford Fusion suddenly started going to the floor. I could pump them up and would have braking ability but they would again go to the floor the next time I went to stop. I checked the brake fluid level in the master brake cylinder reservoir. It was at the appropriate level. I took it to my mechanic. He found leakage at the rear of the brake reservoir. The master brake cylinder was replaced. I have not had this problem since then.

16 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

In 2008, on my 2008 Ford Fusion se 4 cylinder, the dealer I bought the vehicle from replaced the two rear caliper clips due to a loud clicking noise. I visited the same dealer I purchased the vehicle from on several visits since 2008, for the same problem with the front caliper clips, which have been making a loud clicking noise when going in reverse or in drive for two years now! I was told the mechanic didn't experience any problems during his test drive. I took the vehicle to two other Ford dealers, they told me the mechanic's couldn't duplicate the problem. I was told by the last dealer, the breaks will make a clicking noise when backing up. I made another appointment with the purchasing dealer, and asked them why my 2006 Ford Fusion didn't have this problem? the service technician didn't have an answer. I'm going to inform them they have to drive the vehicle forwards and backwards several times to duplicate the problem. I'm also going to contact Ford customer service in michigan to see what they can do. If needed, I will start contacting executive management, like I had to do on my lemon Mazda 626 years ago. I got a Mazda vp involved, and the whole dealership was jumping through hoops, and fixed the problems on the spot. I don't blame this on Ford, I blame it on the vendor's that make the defective parts they purchase from.
