36 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/12/2019

Car has intermittently soft or spongy feeling to the brake pedal during what seems like no specific reason. Master cylinder has been replaced and issue continues. Bleeding the brakes doesn't cause any change and pumping the brakes only results in moderate return of the brake system.

37 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

Excess brake pedal travel to stop. Appears to be an issue with the brake abs module and not the brake master cylinder.

38 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

Reversing my car out of the driveway and the car would not brake. Lost all brakes in the car. Prior to this issue I always though the vehicle had very low brakes. I'd have to press the break very low to the floor to stop. When I lost the brakes I'm the car I initially thought the cause was due to bad calipers and rotors. After replacing all calipers under warranty and bleeding that was not the issue. Towed the car to torrington Ford and it was diagnosed as needing a master cylinder first which may not fix the problem and then a possible hcu replacement of the master cylinder doesn't correct he brake issue.

39 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

My brake pedal is spongy, sometimes it goes all the way to the floor and doesn't stop. Driving real slow through a parking lot or coming down the road to a traffic light, the brakes hardly work. Have taken it to several shops and was diagnosed as a bad master cylinder but after much internet search I found hundreds of people with same issues about a shop diagnosed the same part and it got replaced and didn't fix car. The cars hydraulic control unit to blame and going to be a $1500 fix.

40 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

Brakes go nearly to the floor when pressing brake pedal before engaging and stopping vehicle. Spongy. Replaced master cylinder with new, no help. Replaced abs hydraulic unit with used unit, and no help, but suspect the replacement unit is faulty also. Vehicle does not stop well.

41 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/13/2019

My brakes go out almost completely when there is the slightest bump that I might hit on the road. Firestone has replaced the brakes, brake fluid, and master cylinder and the brake pedal still goes to the floor. The research I did shows that the problem is the abs module. I've found hundreds of people in online forums with this problem. Why is there not a Ford recall with this problem?.

42 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/12/2019

Have been dealing with a brake issue for a few months. Took it to a mechanic who replaced the brakes pads. After they were replaced, the brakes still felt off. I would have to push the brake pedal down all the way to the floor for it to stop completely. Took it to a second mechanic who then replaced the master cylinder. Still had the same issue. When I returned to the mechanic, he looked over the air and stated there was nothing else wrong with it. Finally I went to dunphy Ford where the greeter stayed he already knew what the problem was before I finished explaining the complete issue. He assured me it was the hcu (which of course was almost $1000 to replace) so I had it replaced. After picking up the car it felt fine for the first two days. The. The issue started happening again. When I returned the car to Ford, they told me it was the rear rotors. I asked how could they miss that when they replaced the hcu, there was no answer. The rotors were replaced. That night I went to pick up my car. After driving off, my brakes now made a very loud squealing sound and sort of clanking sound every time I hit a small bump on the road coming from the right side of my car. Well I checked every tire and found one of the lug nuts was loose on the front passenger side of my car. Called them and had he car & brakes looked over once again. This time they tightened the lug nuts and buffed the rotors. The brakes still make a pretty loud sound when I brake but no one can seem to figure out the issue. Not even Ford. I can send in invoices and receipts if needed.

43 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

Driving along the freeway I had to brake suddenly and the abs system malfunctioned causing the brake pedal to drop to the floor. Replaced the master cylinder but the problem still exists and the car is dangerous to drive. The abs valve replacement is $1,200. And the car only has 60,000 miles on it. Based on research this appears to be a very common problem for Ford and Lincoln. I've had to part the vehicle until I can figure out the proper fix.

44 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

Brakes began to feel spongy. I had a small accident when I could not brake causing damage to another's car. Replaced the brake pads, had the system bled but now I have no brakes. I have no brake pedal at all. Replaced the master cylinder, front calipe, brake booster, and brake still have no brake pressure at alll.

45 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

When trying to stop vehicle, the brake pedal lowers to floor and is slow to stop the car. Car continues to travel with foot on the pedal. All diagnostic tests on brakes and master cylinder are stating that brakes are working as they should with no problems to fix but the brake pedal does not stop the car. Everything that could be causing the pedal to lower to the floor and be slow to stop the vehicle has been checked multiple times. Pads are good, rotors are good, brake fluid good, no leaks, brake lines are good, no air in lines, master cylinder is good. According to social media outlets and Ford forums, there are hundreds of complaints with the same exact problem with the soft brake pedal and failure to stop the vehicle. So, the question is. . . Why has there not been a recall?.

The brake are exhibiteing the same issue as NHTSA campaign #19v904000. Rarely, the brake pedal without warning will drop two inches to within 1/2 inch from the floorboard. This started after we had the brakes professionally flushed with the recommended and what the master cylinder cap indicated dot 3. My VIN is not on the NHTSA list, but the problem is identical. Currently in the shop having the completely flushed with dot 4. Started about a year and a half ago, but only became aware of the fix yesterday.

48 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/28/2019

Driving during a snowstorm,I went to use the brakes. The anti lock brakes kicked in and since then the brake pedal is spongy sometimes the pedal goes to the floor. Have to pump the pedal. Master cylinder is good and brakes have been bled.

49 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

51 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

I purchased the car new and have never had any brake issues. Yesterday driving on compact snow and ice at about 25 mph the anti-lock brake system engaged while slowing to start a turn. The brake pedal went almost to the floor before the abs engaged a second time. At this point I was already passed the intersection. Since this happened the brake pedal is very spongy and will travel almost to the floor before any braking occurs. A quick search of the internet shows this is a common issue with this make and model. Information is not clear what the issue is. Some report the master cylinder others state the abs control unit is to blame. There are many complaints of several service calls required and many $$$ to correct the problem.

52 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

My breaks go in and out, the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor as I'm in motion on the road. It's happened in the highway and on city streets. Luckly I had fast reflex to punch the pedal a couple times and that made it a tad bit better. I had the master cylinder and booster replaced, and the problem is still ongoing. The mechanic said the next step would be the abs pump.

53 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/05/2019

Brakes go to floor. No leaks, master cylinder is ok, rotors pads are new.

54 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/31/2018

While turning onto cty street the car in front of me stopped quickly causing me to slam on my brakes. The next stop sign I came to the brakes went to the floor. My son drove the car the next day and said he almost went into an intersection because the brakes went to the floor even after pumping them. The brakes are new the master cylinder is full of fluid. Ford must recall these vehicals immediatley, if a death is caused by continued delay you will be held accountable. Act now.

55 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. While driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and took an extended amount of time to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the abs pump and brake master cylinder needed to be replaced and followed up by a brake fluid flush. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 144,000.

56 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

While driving normally on any type of road and coming to a stop when brakes are applied, pedal will softly go to the floor all the way and car will not stop unless pumped a few times. This started happening after a month when I bought this car from lang autos in lynnwood, washington. First time it happened when I had to stop abruptly and there was gravel on the road which engaged abs. As soon as abs was engaged brake pedal went all the way to the floor and my car hardly stopped causing me to run a red light. I was almost about to run into a pedestrian. This is a permanent issue and I have had rotors brake pads calipers checked. I have also had the brakes bled and tested for any leaks. It came out negative. Master cylinder works fine and there is no leaks in brake line. No leaks in any joints that connects to master cylinder and abs module. I have had my car tested and seems like the issue comes from abs module/controller that might need a replacement. It is a very costly part plus labor costs are huge. On top of that I have already spent hundreds of dollars in diagnosing cause and replacing parts that are not related to actual cost.

57 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving unknown speeds, the brake pedal was applied, but felt spongy and failed to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the master cylinder needed to be replaced and the brakes needed to be bled. The repairs were completed, but the failure recurred. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 62,000.

58 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/28/2018

My 2010 Ford Fusion's brake pedal suddenly began getting spongy a few months ago and remained like that indefinitely. The pedal would have to be depressed all the way to the floor for braking pressure to kick in. I was driving in my neighborhood one one day going about 20mph and the brakes became completely unresponsive after multiple depresses to slow for a speed bump. I ended up stopping the car with the hand brake. This was on November 28th 2018. The brakes haven't worked since, I took it to the mechanic and they replaced my brake master cylinder and bled the system. That did nothing. After further analysis they concluded it's the abs assembly that has failed - told me there's nothing they can do about that as the abs module can only be programmed at a Ford dealership. I went in to get a quote, the needed abs components will run me approximately $1800 not including labor costs. Outrageous. I'm a college student and to top it all of I lost my part-time job I had due to not having a car to go to work. Please is their something that can be done about this?.

59 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/27/2018

Brake pedal fell to the floor after abs initiated (skid on ice). Requires significant force to stop vehicle. Brake fluid is full and master cylinder is not compromised.

60 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the abs warning indicator illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The dealer (grand ledge Ford, 6080 e saginaw hwy, grand ledge, mi 48837, (517) 627-8100) was contacted to schedule a second diagnostic appointment. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

61 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/07/2018

On roughly five occasions my brake pedal has not allowed me to stop in sufficient time. The brake pedal went to the floor after hitting a rough patch and a wet road on a normal street. After pumping the brakes it resolves itself. Sometimes more quickly than other times. First time occurred, brakes were bled to remove air from line, then master cylinder was replaced and did not resolve the issue. Fortunately, no injuries due to my safe driving of distancing from previous vehicles. The belle tire current diagnoses is the faulty abs hydraulic control unit. Documenting last time happened: 11/7/18.

62 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

While driving, on a city street, the brake pedal went almost to the floor,. . I had to pump the brakes to get back the pressure. This happened several times, driving, and also while I was parked and had just put the car in reverse to pull out of a parking spot. I took it to my mechanic, who inspected the brakes (which were less than a year old),. He checked the master cylinder and found nothing wrong, and brake fluid was accurate. The brakes continued to loose pressure from time to time, so I took it to another mechanic, who found nothing wrong with brakes, master cylinder, no leaks, and abs hydraulic system showed no warnings. In researching internet complaints, I have found many complaints of the same nature.

63 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/30/2018

After replacing front and back brakes and master cylinder, continue to have the problem of "soft" brakes. I have to push all the way down to stop and does not stop on time.

64 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/21/2018

When braking on a rough road surface while moving the brake pedal moved towards the floor and went soft. After several applications of pumping the pedal the feel improved somewhat but did not get back to normal. Also, the free-play distance of the pedal travel increased over the previous normal condition. Took car to Ford dealer, they replaced the master cylinder, which did not fix issue. They then told me the abs hcu needed to be replaced. Vehicle is currently awaiting hcu replacement.

65 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/15/2018

Extended braking distance #ea18002 issue. My 2008 Ford Fusion's abs system is causing the brake pedal to go to the floor. Horne freedom Ford in safford arizonia diagnosed the problem as a bad master cylinder when I specifically discussed the abs hydralic control with them before the diagnosis. The master cylinder was replaced and then the brake power booster based on freedom Ford's diagnosis. The brake pedal still had problems and shows the manufacturer is not capable of reliably testing and repairing the abs module on my 2008 Ford Fusion. This is a crititcal failure of Ford and dealers to diagnose and fix a safety defect in the abs hydraulic control unit.

66 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/14/2018

The brakes in the car seemed "squishy" or soft requiring that the driver push the brake pedal nearly through the floor to engage the brakes. I have taken it to multiple shops and had multiple repairs including but not limited to, 2 brand new master cylinders. Several near miss incidents have happened but luckily no accidents. I took the car in today to have the takata airbag recall completed and was told I needed a new hcu. It is my understanding that there have been multiple complaints regarding this make and model regarding faulty hcu parts.

67 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/14/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while his daughter was driving 35 mph, she had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to local dealer horne freedom Ford (2161 e u. S. Hwy 70, thatcher, az 85552 (928) 428-1770) and the brake master cylinder was replaced. The contact stated he continued to experience the failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called local dealer horne freedom Ford, where it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was 16,000.

68 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/13/2018

Second time reporting a recurrent issue. This year/model vehicle has a known issue with the hydraulic control unit (hcu), which affects braking capacity, and either is or was under an open investigation. The hcu/abs function of this vehicle can become disabled when jarred by hitting a large bump - such as a pothole - while the brake is engaged and the vehicle is still in motion. When this occurs the brake pedal becomes instantly soft, loses braking power, and travels a much further distance towards the floor. This instant decrease of brake pressure drastically increases the stopping time of the vehicle. A potentially very dangerous safety concern. The jarring of the vehicle only has a negative affect if the brake is being engaged at the time of jarring. This particular vehicle has had 3 of these braking incidences within the past 12 months. (first incident previously reported to NHTSA in Dec. 2017). None of which have resulted in an accident as of yet. The pedal will remain soft for some time. It seemingly can be "reset" either randomly, or with excessive brake pumping over a substantial period of time. This so-called "reset" could just be a fortunate fluke. I have read in other reports of a similar unknown "reset" effect, until the next episode. Local Ford dealerships and other independent service stations seem to be completely unaware of the issue. Often misdiagnosing the master cylinder as the problem initially. I thought I had heard or read that a replacement hcu part may have been released with a different internal lubricant substance, which would supposedly prevent the hcu valves from malfunctioning. I haven't been able to verify this. If I knew that better quality, remedied replacement parts were available, I would have this part replaced. However, I do not want to proceed with an expensive repair only to have the same recurrent issues with a faulty part.

69 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/13/2018

After engaging the abs system on a gravel road, the brake pedal went soft. It now requires significant pumping and increased distance to stop the vehicle. The master cylinder was replaced, but this did not fix the problem. Research uncovered that this is a known problem/defect with this model year Fusion. I am wondering if there is any momentum towards a Ford recall on this abs issue. It is a significant safety hazard, and well documented.

70 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

Any time the abs system engages, break pressure is lost for extended periods of time, resulting in longer stopping distances. Usually the only way to get break pressure back is to turn the car off, let it sit, and pump the breaks hard several times before pressure is regained, sometimes not for several days. I have not yet been in an accident due to this but feel it is only a matter of time. It first occurred last year around this time when my car was around 116000 miles. It has occurred 2 more times since then including today. The master cylinder was replaced in August 2018 with no change in the problem. After extensive research and ruling out other possibilities, I believe the problem is due to the abs control module. I know there is research into this already, so I am adding my car to the list of affected vehicles to ensure something is done about this problem.
