37 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

Slight rain, 35 mph, hit brakes to make a right hand turn from clifton road to davis Ford rd. Brake failed, I could not make it onto either my new road nor remain in my old road. I managed to drive between the open gates of a cemetery at the intersection. The very rough terrain (massive pothole and clay/gravel surface helped me slow. I did have some breaking power at the very bottom of my pedal's reach, but I had no response where my brakes had been working before. I have since read that brake failure due to abs malfunction in common for this model. People can die at 35 mph, I am extremely lucky I had some place to go that did not involve one of the two light poles, a gate post, or a ditch.

38 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While the contact's son was driving 25 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle drove through an intersection. There was no crash. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was 149,172.

39 Brakes Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/27/2019

When driving my 2011 Ford Fusion going straight on clear road the brakes fail after hitting a bump and or pothole while pressing on the brakes. Its like a " perfect storm" in order to duplicate it. You have to be driving and almost at the same time press the brake and hit the bump/pothole. The brakes fail. The peddle goes all the way down to the floor. Almost hitting the car in front of me. To stop the car I had to pump the brakes while car still in motion for it to stop. Eventually the brakes come back after frantically pumping the brakes. This is the third time now. I can't do this anymore I'm scared that I may die in a crash with me and my family.

40 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

The hydraulic control unit for the brakes is not working properly. This occurred after the vehicle tires spun slightly in about 1/2-1 inch of snow while pulling out of a parking spot onto a paved city street triggering the asb. The vehicle was parked inside a garage for a week before being driven again and the braking problem discovered. Now when you press on the brake pedal to slow down or stop, it fades down before coming to a hard stop and the vehicle takes a greater distance to stop. There is great concern that the brakes will fail completely, causing an accident. This issue should be addressed as a safety recall.

41 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/05/2019

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the brakes failed intermittently to operate as designed, without warning. The vehicle was taken to autonation Ford jacksonville (10720 philips highway, jacksonville, FL 32256, (904) 242-6499) to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, informed the contact that the remedy part was not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 152,737. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

42 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/12/2018

At 80,000, my brakes failed. It started when I started the car in the morning after it sat in the garage overnight. When I started the car, I put my foot on the brake and then put he car in reverse. My foot went to the floor board to stop the car. Normally, I barely tap the brake pedal for it to stop. This happened twice and I took it to a brake shop. They realized this brake failure happens both going forward and reverse after the car sat for overnight. After research, they realized that this is a major brake problem and suggested I visit a Ford service center since they were not equipped for this type of repair. I had the Fusion towed to my local Ford dealer. After the first diagnostic, the dealer said that it is the hydraulic control unit. I then mentioned to the dealer employee that there are many reports on this vehicle having this same situation and it is under investigation.

43 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/25/2018

Driving to phoenix from tucson on I-10 at approximately 65mph, traffic ahead came to a stop. There was a lot of distance between the car ahead and ourselves, but when we hit the brakes abruptly, the brakes applied then failed with pedal going to the floor. Released the pedal and reapplied again and the brakes again started to slow the car then again failed and released. We had no path to the side of the road to avoid impact because other vehicles had pulled to the side, or were in the other lane. We impacted the vehicle stopped in traffic ahead of us with minimal brakes. The az dps and the insurance company were informed of the failure of brakes, but a ticket was still issued. To my knowledge the vehicle brakes or computer has yet to be checked as the Fusion was considered a total loss; this vehicle had only 65,000 miles on it, and in excellent condition. There were three of us in the Fusion and the airbags worked flawlessly, we all walked away. All occupants of the other vehicles were well and walking around for two hours until one was talked into an ambulance ride by a paramedic tech.

44 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

Brakes fail and go to floor randomly despite repairing every known part associated with brake failure. I have been forced to drive onto the road shoulder twice this week.

45 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/31/2018

I was drive through line with my foot on the brake and my brake pedal all of the sudden when all the way to the floor. I tried to pump it and it stayed floppy. I parked my car, set my e-brake and turned it off. When I restarted it, it worked again. One week later while driving approximately 35 mph I went to stop as I was approaching traffic and my brake completely failed, going to the floor once again. I tried pumping it and it was complete to response less. I pulled my e-brake and veered into a nearby parking lot narrowly avoiding an accident. A message across the dash read break system failure. We took it in the next day, the message was gone, all visual computer checks were fine. The mechanic kept it several days and put over 30 miles on it without an issue. I'm scared to drive it now as I have read that there are many reports of this problem with this car.

46 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/28/2018

I was driving to work and I went to stop at a red light and the brakes failed. My car has been at the dealership for a few days and they have replaced several parts but they have been unable to regain any brakes. I haven't had my vehicle for 3 weeks because no one can figure out the issue.

47 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/07/2018

Hydraulic control unit failed on the abs system. Brake pedal pressure was lost and brakes went to the floor and failed. This seems like a very common problem on this model based on reported issue with this car. Brakes failed on the road while being driven. The car would stop but pedal was almost to the floor. Car has been repaired at our expense.

48 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

2009 Ford Fusion brake failure was experienced while driving 30-40mpg on an exit ramp that was in a curve during the rain and during applying the brakes, the abs engaged unexpectedly and the pedal went to the floor. The braking distance increased roughly twice the normal required distance to come to a stop while requiring significantly increased pedal pressure. Pumping the brakes twice did not help stop the car or to build pressure in the pedal. I was successful in recreating the issue while stopping over grass in the road causing abs engagement or over gravel on pavement to cause the abs engagement with the results being roughly 40% of the time the pedal goes to the floor. To get the brake pedal to return to normal I quickly and harshly jab the brakes many times causing the hcu to become unstuck only for the issue to return during the next few tests. This is my 2nd faulty hcu!!! please recall this safety issue.

49 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/24/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the brakes had failed to function properly when applied. The brake pedal had gone to the floor several times causing the contact to have to apply force and pump the brake pedal each time the failure had happened. In addition, there was no warning indicator when the eps failed causing the steering wheel to have been extremely tight when attempting to turn the steering wheel in either direction. The vehicle was also serviced for a manufacturer extended warranty campaign for the throttle body, however the contact had noticed that the vehicle had been slow to pick up speed while the other two failures had progressed. The dealer worthington Ford, 2950 n bellflower blvd, long beach, CA 90815,1-(562) 420-3333 had been unable to provide a permanent remedy yet for the three failures the contact was experiencing. The contact was not included in NHTSA action number: ea17004 (steering) and pe13003 (engine). The manufacturer was notified of the failures, the contact was waiting for a response from the manufacturer to determine if they may be able to provide a permanent fix for the dealers required repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

50 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/21/2018

Occasionally when the vehicle hits a bump or pot hole the brakes immediately becomes soft and loses power to stop the vehicle. It repeats itself and one has to slow it down with engine braking. After a day or two it becomes okay again. Till next time and it happens again. There seems to be apparently nothing wrong with the system, everything checks out and we are not able to duplicate the events on demand. When the brake fails it is a major safety risk and can cause collision and may result in fatalities. There are many (at least 300) reported issues very similar to what I am having. Ford has not recalled the vehicles to fix this major safety fault. By pumping the brakes we are able to stop the vehicle but it takes a longer distance to stop. Last time it happened was August 20, 2018 and stayed soft for three days and is now working fine.

51 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/20/2018

My 2010 Ford Fusion had abs hydraulic control unit failure. Brakes failed to function correctly when abs activated during braking brake pedal would go to floor with only faint braking possible. This happened three times thankfully there wasn't an accident and no one was injured. I took to dealer for resolution. Dealer unable to diagnose the problem first 2 times. I took to dealer the third time they were able to replicate the problem. Abs hcu was replaced. Repair cost was very expensive.

52 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

Brakes have failed twice randomly. Coming to a stop at stop sign and stopping at yellow light (this one was scary). Abs seems to pulsate back and then pedal goes straight to floor. First time I was able to pump brakes back up and drive to dealer. They said nothing was wrong. Second time I was unable to pump back up. After sitting for an hour or so the brakes were working again. I took to dealer for second time and again, nothing wrong. Clearly there is something wrong and huge safety issue. I don't want the third time it happens to actually be a crash! very unsafe and do not understand how they say nothing is wrong.

53 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/22/2018

I have had several brake failures where the pedal went nearly to the floor before the brakes engaged. This has always occurred after a sudden stop, or when braking in a turn. This time it happened while trying to avoid and object that flew off the back of a truck. After previous events I was able to bring the pedal back to normal by pumping it hard a few times, this time it didn't work. I did some research and discovered that this was a common, and very dangerous, occurrence. Being an engineer, I decided to look into it further. What I found was that a component in the abs control, a dump valve, was failing to close after an abs event. This in itself is very dangerous, but the fact that the system doesn't send or record an error is inexcusable. My research has led me to conclude that this is a design flaw in the control unit. The fact that it doesn't pop an error is very suspicious. Ford has known about this flaw for a long time, and it affects all model years from 2005-2012. I also found out that the problem was being investigate (by you I assume), but only includes model years from 2005-2010. It does in fact involve all of the first generation Fusions. In investigating further, I discovered that Ford engineers not only knew about the problem. They discovered what was causing it. It seems there is an incompatibility of some of the internal (wetted) components and the brake fluid. A chemical reaction occurs, over time, causing the development of a gel like material that causes the valves to stick in the open position. People have been injured because of Fords failure to act, and there will be more in the future, there are a lot of these cars still on the road. Ford should fix the problem, and recall all affected vehicles still in service.

54 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/21/2018

Brake failure. On two separate occasions while attempting to stop my car at a city intersection the brake pedal, upon application, travelled all the way to the floor without the brakes engaging. I immediately let off the brake pedal and began to pump the pedal, which eventually engaged the brakes softly. Fortunately both times I was able to finally stop the vehicle before colliding with another car. For a little while after that the brakes continued to be very soft, requiring much more pedal travel than normal.

55 Brakes Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/13/2018

I've had my brakes serviced multiple times, but my brake pedal keeps failing and going all the way down to the floor.

56 Brakes Failed problem of the 2006 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

Tl- the contact's mother owns a 2006 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the passenger air bag warning light had remained illuminated both when occupied and unoccupied. He stated the failure had began soon after he had the takata airbag replaced in the vehicle. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where they determined that the airbag was defective and needed to be replaced. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to simi valley Ford(2440 first st, simi valley, CA 93065) where it remained in their possession due to NHTSA campaign number:19v904(service brakes, hydraulic); however the parts remained unavailable. The contact also stated that he had experienced multiple brake failure due to the brake recall. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000. Jo.

57 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/18/2018

While approaching a four way intersection stop light at approximately 20-25 m. P. H. In a 45 m. P. H zone on a highway headed into the city the brakes were applied and while doing so also hit a pothole simultaneously. The brakes failed to engage in any capacity. Released pressure from brake pedal and then reapplied brakes at which point the brakes engaged and stopped the vehicle but not before overshooting initial planned stop point by 6-8 feet into the intersection. With passenger as witness. Pedal now feels fine and brakes work normal. A similar situation occurred 3-4 months prior and afterwards the pedal felt spongy but went away on its own. After this most recent incident a web search turned up others having this problem that was identified as a possible bad abs hydraulic control unit. Accident was avoided but could have led to hitting vehicles entering intersection. Web results also revealed that similar incidents are being investigated by the NHTSA.

58 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/07/2018

Sudden brake failure after applying brakes on damp pavement. Speed was about 30 mph on a city street. After pumping pedal, brakes returned but pedal was soft and nearly to the floorboard. Brakes have remained soft greatly extending braking distance making vehicle unsafe to drive. This came without any warning or indication on the dashboard that brake system was compromised. After speaking with a Ford technician, the opinion was possible failure of the hydraulic control module and needed to be followed up. This incident was a very close call with a utility pole and thanks to a working emergency brake and quick thinking, an accident was avoided. This needs to be investigated with a possible recall.

59 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/09/2018

Brake pedal fade. When applying brakes, pedal goes almost to the floor resulting in panic type reflexes. Have had issues not being able to stop in allotted time. Has happened in the past, but seemed to have "corrected" itself. Recently have had snowy, wet road conditions and issue has come back. Very unsafe, could result in an accident, could result in injury and/or death. Read a lot of complaints about same issue. This should be investigated and recalled for brake failure. This is a definite safety risk, not only for the occupants in the Ford, but also for any vehicles and/or pedestrians in the area when brake pedal fails. Mileage on said vehicle is 142,977. Not sure of date when first happened. Pedal fade when at stop, trying to stop, city roads, highway speeds, basically anytime brake pedal applied.

60 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. While driving 25 mph, the brakes failed to operate. The contact stated that the vehicle coasted until it came to a complete stop. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred multiple times. Ken grody Ford (6211 beach blvd, buena park, CA 90621, (714) 521-3110) replaced the brakes three times, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was currently at the dealer again for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 50,451.

61 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/28/2017

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. While driving 35 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled all the way to the floorboard and had to be pumped several times until the brakes engaged. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The contact stated that the control module was replaced, which was unrelated to the brakes. Several days later, while the contact's son was driving 40 mph, the brakes failed once again. The driver had to pump the brakes several times until they engaged. As a result, the contact's son rear ended another vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The contact stated that north brothers Ford (33300 Ford rd, westland, mi 48185, (800) 586-4203) was contacted and stated that there were no recalls. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

62 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/12/2017

While driving on a highway going approximately 70 mph, I took evasive action to avoid a deer in the roadway. I veered right and hit the brakes. Initially I felt the abs engage and felt, through the brake pedal, a series of thuds. After about a second the brake system failed almost completely and the vehicle continued to move despite the brake pedal being all the way to the floor.

63 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/07/2017

Takata recall, my brakes failed my daughter and me several times I had the brakes replace thinking that was the problem but on 11/07 /17 I was existing off the freeway coming to the red light with the blessings of the lord the light was yellow I braked it wouldn't stop the person on my left waiting for the light to turn green notice I couldn't stop they waited until I made my left turn that was scrary please tell me what I should do to solve this problem. Lindora scott 309 melanie drive center point,al. 35215 (205-637-7497) please don't wait until I have an accident I would loose my brakes and they will go all the way to the floor pumping them didn't help so I would drive in the far right lane when approaching a light or a car I would start pumping and pray all the way to my destination city street and highways been blessed so far. Thanks mrs scott.

64 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/04/2017

On December 7, 2016, I was driving home from work in extremely cold temperatures (roughly -20 degrees) and on snow and ice. During a stop, my abs engaged and after that time, my brakes became very soft, required the pedal to be pushed almost all the way to the floor and offered very little stopping power. I had my car towed to the dealership which was already closed for the evening. The next day, they were unable to recreate the problem and theorized that the extreme cold temperatures didn't allow the hydraulic control unit (hcu) to reroute fluid properly after the abs engaged. They advised me that if it happened again, I may need to replace the hydraulic control unit. I'm guessing my car had roughly 100,000 miles on it at that time. On November 4, 2017, I was driving in a blizzard that had started after a period of rain so the roads were extremely slick and icy. Once again, my abs engaged which led to a brake failure. I also happened to be at the summit of a mountain with a 5% grade - not a great time to lose your brakes! I took my car in to a shop on 11-6-17 to have them diagnose the problem. They witnessed the brake failure and after testing, determined that the hydraulic control unit had failed. They replaced the hcu (with a used unit at a materials/labor cost of roughly $450) and I will see what happens next time my abs engages. My car currently has about 115,000 miles on it. I consider myself extremely lucky that I did not get into an accident during either of these malfunctions. The hcu failure is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed and can be extremely dangerous.

65 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/16/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the brakes failed. The contact had to slam on the brake pedal with excessive force to stop the vehicle. The failure occurred more than once. Multiple messages and unknown warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel, including "service advancetrac" and "service brakes". The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new anti-lock brake system control module was needed. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,000.

66 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/02/2017

At times my abs will kick in when hitting a bump while braking or when hard braking, after the abs kicks in I lose all pressure and have to floor my brake pedal to be able to stop. Eventually my brakes re pressurize but this takes time, this last event took 2. 5 weeks for my brakes to "come back". This is also no the first time this has happened. I almost hit a girl crossing the street, my abs kicked in, then my brakes failed and I had to floor the brake pedal to stop, I nearly hit the girl. Thankfully I realized what happened and knew to floor my brake pedal. First incident: I was braking to a stop and my tire hit a raised manhole cover in the road, wasn't real hard but enough that my brakes "failed" and I skidded into the intersection, thankfully no one was moving yet. My brakes recovered a couple days later. Second incident: the young girl I almost hit, I mentioned this in the above paragraph. Heading to work, doing about 30, I spaced out for a min, girl starts to cross, I slam on the brakes. (yes, I know, it was bad all around). The abs kicks in, I start to slow, then I lose 99% of my brakes and I have to floor my pedal to stop from hitting her. I came within 5 feet of the girl. There have been other instances but I don't remember specifics. Although, the two events above, the first one was about 2 years ago, the second was 2 weeks ago.

67 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/19/2017

Brakes are extremely spongy started a couple of years ago with a complete brake failure that I had to veer to the right and hit a curb so that I wouldn't hit the car in front of me. Took a huge chunk out of my rim. I had 2 of my granddaughters in the car with me on that particular day and we were all terrified. After that they started working fine again and now for the past year they have been spongy and we have replaced every part of the brake system with no change, the brakes continue to be spongy. This has cost my husband and I a lot of money, headache and time. I'm afraid to drive my car now not knowing if it could completely fail at any moment. This is ridiculous, I see there are multiple complaints about the same problem. This is an ongoing issue and Ford should be made to fix the problem due to the fact that so many of these cars if not all of them are failing. And to top it off I read that Ford no longer makes the abs system for the Fusions with awd, which is what I have. What am I supposed to do. We've done our part keeping up on the maintenance, even replacing every part of the brake system including the abs. Please, please, please something needs to be done. Ford needs to be held accountable and make this right. I often have my grandchildren but I don't feel safe having them in my car anymore. It's really messed up that I shelled out all this money for a safe car just to have them say it's not our problem when the exact same issue is occurring year after year in the Ford Fusions. I can't afford to just go out and buy another car and I shouldn't have to. Especially when the same part in all of these complaints is the problem. Whatever happened to accountability.

68 Brakes Failed problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/13/2017

On April 13 at 8:25 a. M. My son was leaving to drive over to the community college for class. As he left the subdivision and approached the stop sign at the main road, he applied the brakes to stop. The brakes worked fine until just before the stop sign when he hit a pot hole. The brakes immediately went soft so that he had to push the pedal all the way to the floor to get any stopping power at all. Thankfully he was only going 3-5 mph when the brakes failed. He threw the transmission into "park" (it was going slow enough that it held) and was able to stop before rolling out into traffic on the main road. The weather was clear and the asphalt pavement was dry. He turned the vehicle around and drove it home. I tested the vehicle and we were eventually able to restore braking action by turning the engine off and on repeatedly and pumping the brakes while the engine was running. This is the third similar braking failure we have had with this vehicle in the last six months. Each incident has occurred without warning. We have had the vehicle inspected at the local Ford dealer. They say they cannot find anything wrong with the braking system. The brakes seem to work perfectly all the time. . . Except when they don't work at all! this is really scary and frustrating. I sure hope Ford will do something about this known issue.

69 Brakes Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/27/2017

I have had my Ford Fusion for 6 months. Over the last 2 months I have had issues with braking. The brakes fail for a split second just before coming to a complete stop to add to that it sometimes decides to surge and lurches forward just before it stops. It has been in and out of the Ford dealer for repair, the first few times I was told nothing was wrong. The last time, they decide to replace the throttle bottle and a module. For a few days the car seemed to be doing better until today when pulling into my driveway. As I was stopping to park, the car lurched forward into a pile of wood. If this had been at an intersection or someone crossing in front of me this could have been fatal. I am now scared to drive the car at all! let alone let my teen drive behind the wheel. I am out of options! I cannot refinance another car.

70 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/30/2017

Whole brake system failed 01/04/2013. Had whole system replaced at a cost of over $1700. It is happening again and Ford wants me to replace the whole system again for close to $2000. 00. I had them flush system which seemed to solve the issue for only a month. I am afraid I am going to injury myself or someone else. Is there any action I can take to get Ford to admit there is a defect in there brakes?01/.
