36 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/11/2025

There have been only been 3 instances that my abs has activated in the past 4 years. During all 3 instances of the abs activating, the abs motor turned on for less than a second and then the brake pedal went soft and all the way to the floor. After this moment, I had little to no braking power. The pedal remained soft until the very end of the pedal travel. The brakes were very shifty and I had to have a shop bleed the abs unit and lines. The first instance (2019) I had to swerve around a vehicle that blindly crossed traffic. I slammed on the brakes, abs motor activated for less than a second and the pedal went to the floor and I did not slow down. I had to drive through someone's yard on the other side of the intersection because I had no brakes. The second time (2022) I was on the highway on a 2,500 mile road trip. In utah, there was a rain storm (unusual) and the passing lane on the highway began gathering water. I hydroplaned and used the brakes to slow down. Same story - abs briefly activated and the pedal went to the floor. I was able to slow down eventually by letting off the brake and gas and dealt with soft, ineffective brakes for the remainder of the trip. The third time (2025), I dodged a pothole only to hit another one I didn't see approaching a stop sign, and this activated the abs very briefly, sending my pedal to the floor and losing braking. I was in the middle of the intersection by the time I stopped. There were no other cars around as it was a rural area. I had a shop nearby evacuate the abs module both times and they discovered air in the unit. I simply cannot believe there hasn't been a recall on this, especially with all the reports made.

40 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/21/2025

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion. Two days ago I was backing out of the parking lot and I had to brake hard to avoid a fast moving car zooming past behind me. After that I noticed the brake was very mushy and I have to press the brake almost to the floor to get the car to stop. I did some research on the internet and found out it was a common problem with Ford Fusion between 2006 and 2010 and there is a safety recall 19s54 for the 2006-2010 Ford Fusion. Ford also has an internal customer satisfaction program 21n11 that covers the repair of the said issue. However, the recall only covers cars manufactured between February 22, 2006 through July 15, 2009 and my car was manufactured in Dec 2009 and was not included on the recall list. Obviously the problem was not fixed for Ford Fusion manufactured after the 7/15/2009. I have seen many similar complaints on the net and some have indicated that they have filed nhsta complaints for the same issue. I contacted Ford and see if they will fix the problem with my car as a goodwill gesture even though my car was not on the recall list. They absolutely refused to take responsibility. I think it is a serious, serious safety issue for the driving public and Ford should be told to extend the 19s54 recall cut off date to cover any vehicle that experienced this abs/hcu braking problem and fix this manufacturing defect.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/16/2025

I got a letter from Ford awhile ago about my brakes. I brought it in then they stated I was fine. But you have to push my brake peddle all the way to the floor of the car to make my vehicle stop. I feel this is very unsafe for me and my family, and also others around me if something where to happen do to this problem. We have done multiply things to try to correct the problem with no luck.

I was driving under the posted speed limit on a road near my house going to pick my kids up from school. I was approaching a stop sign at an intersection and began to press on the brake pedal. The pedal traveled all the way to the floor as I was coming yo the stop sign. A driver was approaching me from the left headed east and my car went into the street past the stop sign and the other driver hit me which in turn caused his vehicle to roll over and mine was damaged as well which turned out to be totaled. The brakes began to work again right as the gentleman hit me. I never knew about the recall and when that happened I got onto the web and out in my VIN and saw it was recalled. I need to know what’s going to be dealt with here!.

53 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/08/2025

I have filed a complaint last month and didn't have an email at the time. . I was given a ticket number. . . [xxx], which upon searching isn't a thing. My son purchased a 2011 Ford Fusion from a " mechanic" who claimed he just did the brakes, calipers etc. . We replaced many parts and upon driving it within 4 days I lost all control braking at a speed of 35-40mph. . It's a miracle that I wasn't on the freeway. Had it towed to keith's muffler in westland mi. . After over a month decided they were not working on it anymore. . And closed up shop. Had it pushed to pioneer auto care next door , supplied them with a remanufactured part after determining it's the abs module. . Most Fusions have the exact problem however not for the 2011. . . Ford customer service said call NHTSA. . . Where do I find the complaint online or can someone tell me what to do!!!!! I'm about to call channel 7 news because I'm out thousands. . And need a car. Most Fusions have had a recall on the abs module. There seems to be absolutely zero regulatory departments overseeing auto mechanics in michigan that will do anything to help me. Please advise. 56 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/19/2025

When these problems started it was only 6 months after purchase and I was already having issues with power train malfunctions and it didnt want to switch gears. I purchased this at roughly 47,000 miles and it didnt make it to 70,000 miles before I ultimately decided it was not the safe vehicle that was advertised to my family and I. It was taken to the dealership over 3 times in under a year and for some reason the problem never got resolved. I have been sued for the remaining balance now despite that toward the end of my time owning it the vehicle was reving out with barely any pressure on the gas pedal, having issues braking on its own (anti-collision assist), and occasionally the steering wheel would jerk me in to oncoming traffic. I am just trying to get a recall issued at this point because this car is going to kill someone if it stays on the road.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floorboard causing the braking distance to be extended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was determined that the brake module had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed that the contact there were no trouble codes retrieved, and the repair was not covered under the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case for possible assistance with the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was 65,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/05/2024

On [xxx] my car exhibited a problem where the brake pedal was mushy and had to be pushed half way down to stop the vehicle. It felt very unsafe as it happened suddenly and stayed like that. Since I felt unsafe, I took it to my nearest mechanic local shop. He told me that it can be a master cylinder issue first and then the hcl. I looked online and found an old recall on Ford Fusions 2006-2010 model with recall number 19s54 (dot brake fluid and anti-lock brake system function). I checked my VIN and there was no recall for my vehicle. It was strange since my vehicle build day was very close to the date mentioned on the recall. On 12/4/2024 at 7:45 am pst (10:45 est), I called Ford dealer (colley Ford service) and described the issue and told them about the recall. They did some research and told me my vehicle is not covered. On 12/4/2024 at 8:00 and 8:30 am pst (11:30 est), I called the customer relations at Ford. They provided the same response and told me that no recall is on my vehicle based on my VIN. That was a bit frustrating given that my vehicle was showing very similar issue and as safety concern. I also discussed this recall with my mechanic. I told my mechanic to go ahead with the repairs he believes is appropriate for my car to ensure my safety. My mechanic inspected it and told me that its either a master cylinder problem or the hydraulic brake control unit (hcu) or both. He first changed the master cylinder and flushed brakes with dot 4 Ford recommended. That did not fix the issue. Next, he changed the hcu and that fixed the problem. To me, this indicates that with high probability, my vehicle exhibited same problem as what it was shown within the recall notice. I need this to be investigated and I need Ford to be accountable for this issue and pay for my repair expenses as my car has a very close build date and is from the same plant and is a Fusion. I have uploaded a picture of the bill I paid the recall sample. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information ac.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

The abs module is faulty and light will come on at random times and makes steering hard and braking on right side of vehicle is hard. I have taken it to raceway Ford of hartsville and they are having a hard time getting the part due to it being called obsolete but I think it needs to be on the recall list as well due to it being a safety concern on my vehicle.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/26/2024

I have noticed for some time in our 2009 Ford Fusion purchased used that the brake travel was longer than it should be. This results in the need to anticipate braking quicker and react faster to allow appropriate time to slow down. In doing some research I discovered a Ford recall 19s54 which was apparently replaced by a Ford csp 21n11. I made an appointment to have this issue addressed by a Ford dealership and they said that the csp expired in 2022 and the vehicle is no longer covered despite the persistence of the safety issue and the fact that it has not been repaired for this known problem. With a significant issue, such as braking, I believe the expiration should be extended to allow for Ford owners to have this known safety issue addressed appropriately by Ford.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/25/2024

The contact's son owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The contact stated that the brakes became inoperable. Additionally, the tire pressure warning light was illuminated. The brakes were replaced by the contact’s brother, who is an independent mechanic and had determined that there was air trapped in the brake lines and the brake lines needed bleeding. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/20/2024

While waiting at a red traffic light in drive and on a slight incline, engine shut off by itself and car started rolling backward with my foot on the brake pedal. The pedal felt harder than normal to push but didn't stop the car. A car stopped behind me was put at risk of impact with the rear of my vehicle. I could see I was getting closer and closer to hitting the other car. As this was happening, I pushed the start button and managed to restart the engine and put it in drive to pull away just before impact. Problem hasn't been reproduced by anyone. Vehicle or components haven't been inspected by anyone. No warning light lamps or other symptoms of the problem prior or during remaining drive home. I don't know if this is related but the car does have a random no start symptom due to a battery discharge condition while parked overnight. This happens very rarely and is not reproducible when the battery is charged. Ford has a TSB ref. 17-2192 on this failure that is applicable to my VIN but they will not cover it since my car is out of warranty (time and 73k miles). The dealer further stated that there is no guarantee that this re-programming of the pcm will fix the problem. The Ford dealer gave me an estimate of $214 for the re-programming of the pcm and it does not include a new battery if it needs it. I have an appointment to get it done on 11/22/24 but I'm reluctant to pay for something that may not fix the parasitic pcm draw on the battery. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/13/2024

On multiple occasions after an abs brake event, the brake pedal will travel all the way to floor with very little braking power. In some instances, the brake pedal returns to normal after a short amount of time and repetitive pumping of the the brake pedal. In other instances, an extended period of time and aggressive pumping and stabbing of the brake pedal is required to regain full brake control. In every case, this condition has occurred immediately following an abs brake event. However, it does not occur after every abs brake event, making it very unpredictable. There have been no warning lamps, messages, symptoms, or other indication of a problem prior to each occurrence. This vehicle has been inspected by a Ford dealer. The dealer was not able to reproduce the problem, but loss of brake pedal with little brake control continues to occur unpredictably. We use this vehicle for commuting to downtown minneapolis in heavy traffic and ice roads. Despite cautious driving habits, this issue has created multiple close call collisions with other vehicle.

69 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/10/2024

Advancetrac stopped working in my car due a sensor. Had to get it replaced by midas. When I went to turn on my car and put it in drive it started making an awful grinding sound and would not move and gave me an error code that just said service advancetrac. It was insanely expensive to repair and thankfully didn't happen while I was driving.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/07/2024

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. Very soft. Needs new abs module but this VIN is not affected by the recall. Should be included. I have another 2010 Fusion that had the same issue and Ford fixed it with the recall. Recall needs to be expanded.
