Tail lights do not turn on when daylight running lights are on. Per owner's manual there are 3 positions (off, parking, low beams). The drl is on when: the ignition is on, the headlamp control is not in the low beam position, and the trasmission is in out of the park position. The warning in the manual states: "always remember to turn on your headlamp at dusk or during inclement weather. The drl system does not activate the tail lamps and generally may not provide adequete lighting during these conditions during these conditions. Failure to activate your headlamps under these conditions may result in a collision. " I noticed a healthy, alert, driver of the Ford Fusion forgetting to turn on the headlamp to low beam. He said they were on, but in fact the drl was on, because if the low beam is not on, the drl is usually on. When driving, we noticed many Fusion moving cars at night time without their tail lights on. We believe it is because the drl comes on automatically and people forget to turn their low beam lights on because the drl makes it seem like low beam is already on. I noticed this several months ago when we were almost rear-ended and I discovered the low beams were not on (but the drl was on). See attached owner manual. Per owner manual, this is by design. Repair is not needed. We took this to a mechanic who advised is a design issue and not a repair issue. We contacted the manufacturer who stated to contact the dealer.

A week ago I smelled something burning while I was driving. I had just had a belt replaced and thought fluid leaked and was burning off, checked under my hood and couldn't smell anything. A few days later my boss told me my tail light was out. I had just changed it a month or so ago, but when I looked at my light, the bulb was black, the base you plug it into is burnt and the plastic on the assembly is melting. Why is this not a recall yet? I see plenty of people on here with the same issue.

I own a 2012 Ford Fusion se 6 cylinder this vehicle has a major safety hazard. My passenger side rtail light continues to blow and the most recent incident occurred last week when I noticed a burning smell. I have been replacing this tail light every six months for the past two years and it has caused melting around the light socket and the bulb is clearly burnt. After googling this issue I have seen numerous complaints about the same issue with the 2012 Ford Fusion and a recall needs to be issued immediately or I am going to the public. This can kill someone and start a fire especially if the blaze gets out of hand and children are in the backseat strapped in. Please email me angsyoun@yahoo. Com regarding if you are having a similar concern so I can compile this and go public because they have received several complaints and not done anything to remedy this issue. This is clearly an electrical issue and Ford and the nthsa need to step it up and save lives before it's too late. . Read more...

I was driving from work to home yesterday and when I turned my right signal lights on it is flickering very fast than normal. I waited until I got home and try to see if my tail lights is working, come to find out it is only flickering fast in my dashboard but the tail lights in my right side is dead. We then remove the tail lights and found another big problem. My tail lights is burned around the base and the other bulb is black. Also, when we pull the bulb a lot of stuff came off from the base like tiny beads??. Both tail lights is burned down although the other light still working. I now have concerned why the bulb is burning without any warning whatsoever. I read online to see if there is any other cases come to find out there aren't many. I encourage everyone who owns Ford vehicle to check your lights often and file a complaint like I did today. We decided to switch each light to see if it is doing the same thing. When I turn my signal on the right side is working and the left side now is not working and in my dash board left side is flickering really fast. I think all consumer needs to know regarding this issue and hoping that the dealer will not charge $56 dollars just to check the tail lights. The bad part about my situation I live about 25 minutes from my job and I pass plenty of traffic light on my way. I did not realized that my tail lights is not working during the time that I was driving. It is very dangerous because turning without signal light on it may cause the other vehicle to hit you if they are not paying attention. To all Ford owner please check your lights often and file a complaint to help out other customer made aware about the concern before they become big problem.
I had a recall on my car last year 2017. I took it to be fixed. They replaced the throttle body and power steering module. After having that replaced I later notice my car wasn't driving right. There was a whining noise and a noise coming for steering wheel. So I took my car back to have it check out. The guy said it will cost $130. 00 for them to check my car. I asked if cost to check the part they replaced because my car was driving the same since they fixed it. It took less than an hour for them to tell me that there wasn't anything wrong with the parts that was replaced. Now my car has been going down since. So June 30,2018 I took it to a mechanic for oil change and he told me that I should take my car to dealership to get rack and pinion check. He express to me that I should get it looked at soon because my wheel seem like it will lock. August 5,2018 I was driving the express way and almost lost control of my car. It kept swerving back and forward in and out of lane. I was trying to avoid hitting the car on my right side and hitting the brick wall on my left. I to brake on the expressway almost coming to a complete stop to get control of the car. I thank god there wasn't a car behind me. I had to replace the tail light several times. There a static noise coming from the center dash.
I replaced a rear tail light bulb that was not working and found that the socket appeared to have sustained damage from an overheat condition. This caused the new bulb to not fit securely in the socket and not make solid contact. I checked the other tail light and found the same condition. Both sockets were discolored, brown to black near the bulb, apparently from being over heated. Several days later I replaced the right low beam headlight and found that the socket had melted, requiring the socket to be replaced. I don't think the tail light and headlight events are directly related, but I feel that this excessive heat is a potential fire hazard and is indicative of a serious engineering defect with the Fusion. To the best of my knowledge the bulbs I replaced were original and no prior modification or repair has been done to any of the vehicle's lighting. I am not including pictures of the tail light socket at this time because if I attempt to remove them to take a picture there is a strong likelihood they will stop working. I have included pictures of the melted headlight connector.
Tail lights are too hot causing burning of tail light sockets, exploding bulbs and melting of tail light assembly. Toxic fumes are being generated by the melting plastic. The tail light/head lights were on and we were in heavy traffic. While driving we smelled burning plastic. Upon inspection I found that the right tail light bulb was burned and melted into the tail light assembly, the light socket was black from burning. Now there is no way to secure the tail light bulb into the tail light assembly due to the melted plastic. See photos.
My 2007 Ford Fusion makes a loud, hidious, noise when I turn my weels, even in the slightest. Hard to explain the noise but when it's colder outside it doesn't make it and when it gets hot outside, then it gets worse like something is expanding and contracting with the temperature outside. Anytime my tire's move that noise is made. Btw it is a awd wheel drive keeps getting water in tail lights and blowing bulbs maybe part of takata recall as well.

Service manager: patrick lyons my car VIN#3fahp0cg2cr219897. Both headlights don't work & haven't since February 2017. I had grote automotive service center do the replacement of both front I purchased the car on 12/5/15. One head light & one tail light was not working. Headlamps were replaced done on 2/27/2017. They worked on & off, stayed off then on 5/22/2017 right & left headlight bulb inop was replaced. So I've been without headlights since then. I got it fixed again in may 2018 only to again in August 2018. There's got to a power surge or faulty. There has to be recall somewhere.
The right rear tail light went out. When I changed it I noticed the plastic socket was a little burnt. The next week the left tail light went out. When I went to change it I noticed it was far worse. It took everything just to get the bulb out. It was burnt. Now the new bulb won't stay in the socket.
Burnt tail light sockets some melting as well because the bulb was stuck inside socket.
Left for work this morning and first time I used my right turn signal, the signal made that fast clicking sound indicating the vehicle had a bulb that needed to be changed. After work I stopped by autozone to buy a replacement bulb. I removed the socket from the lense, and noticed that the bulb is melted into the socket. The bulb cannot be removed from the socket. I then checked the drivers side rear tail light bulb, and that bulb is also melted into the socket. I took my car to art hill Ford dealership (where I purchased the car), and was told that this would not be covered on my warranty. I was told I needed to make an appointment to have a technician look at it. I asked to have a technician please look at it now because I was concerned about the vehicle safety. The service rep said that could not happen because the technicians would have to be paid $56 just to look. I was shocked, disappointed, and worried. I made the appt. I only have approx 38500 miles on my vehicle. This should be covered under warranty or recall.

2010 Ford Fusion se, head lights and dash board lights are on at all times but the tail lights are not, this model does not have automatic on switch. First night I drove the car a neighbor told me I had no tail lights, I had strong running lights that I was driving by that I though were automatically switched head lights. My husband drove the car and assumed the same. We did figure it out. On 4/24 I was issued a warning for no tail lights. I spoke to other owners and they too have been pulled over for no taillights. Also was following a Fusion last week that did not have tail lights. This is dangerous, the tail lights should be part of the running light circuit or the running lights should not be sufficient to drive by. I just wanted to be on the record before I get rear ended at dusk after I realize that I have not turned on my tail lights.
My left tail light has been replaced 3 times. Burn marks are visible and it is now out again. It was replaced early summer 2009 it is now oct 2009.
