My 2010 Ford fusion hubrid recently indicated a power steering assist fault on the dash board. The vehicle was stationary, parked in the drive way. Steering is difficult.
My car had "power steering assist fault" come up on the dashboard after I started it in a parking lot and the lack of power steering made the car unable to drive safely. This has happened several times, and clears after turning off and restarting the car. . However, the message will not go away now even after restarting the car. Ford, was able to recreate the failure and thru driving the car & diagnostics. I was then called and notified that I needed a steering rack at the tune of $2500. During the phone call, I was told that Ford has been known to assist with the expense, especially with having such low mileage and asked if I wanted them to submit a request. Of course, I would, however, I was informed today, 2 Jan. 19, that Ford rejected my request for assistance and said would not assist with anything. I am now afraid to drive the car, for fear of this happening again without warning. I have very few miles on my car, approx 38,000 miles. There have been many complaints for this very issue. Other years have been recalled however, not yet for the 2010 models. This is very much a safety issue. How can Ford not recall 2010's when it is a documented issue? I don't feel like I can drive the car knowing that there is a safety issue or sell it with a clear conscious. Can not afford $2500. And, it's rumored that Ford will not make the fusion after this year. How many more complaints must be received by NHTSA before a recall. Please do something! thank you,.
When my wife was driving the power steering went out and warning lights went on. Those warning lights were: service power steering now and service advancetrac. My wife could not drive the car and needed to get it towed to a local shop.
My steering is now going in/out just as I had a complete cvt replacement so thousands of dollars later. There is a recall for that year but not for the month that my car was produced. It's still a known issue which saddens me because its my first time investing in an american vehicle. The vehicle is sitting at aamco service shop currently.

Luckily I was driving up to a stop sign at 20 miles per hour when the power steering assist locked up 44th and quaker lubbock texas.
Steering assist quit and I couldn't steer anymore almost wrecked.
Steering went out on car while driving, luckily was with a few blocks of home and able to pull over safely, going less than 20 mph. Steering wheel would not turn either direction. Car had to be towed to service at dealership where they reported the steering rack needed to be replaced for about $2500. At local mechanic, they said could replace steering rack for $1200 but it would have to be taken to a dealer to have the computer flashed. Went with cheaper mechanic, towed to dealership to complete computer work, and computer would not recognize part. Went back to original mechanic, they again replaced rack thinking it was a defective part (at no charge), back to dealership, same problem - computer still not recognizing new part. Now for all the new diagnostics at dealership, cost has been about $400 so far. Still do not have part that works and car still at dealership not working and not recognizing part. Running out of money to keep feeding into this car.
Power steering assist fault this has happened on 3 different occasions and resets after it has set for a period of time. The steering is near impossible to turning. It has only happened upon start up of the car. The car can not be driven while this warning is active.

Steering suddenly stopped working altogether without warning. Alert displayed was "service power steering now". There was no way to even turn the steering wheel under manual power. This happened while the vehicle was stopped in a parking space for about 5 minutes and I noticed it upon backing out.

My daughters car electric steering assist motor locked up while driving on a major road, causing the car which was turning to almost go off the road into on coming traffic. The which was being driven by her boy friend was heading into accident, however, the young man was able to force the steering back working by breaking gear on the motor assist. If my daughter had been driving, she and her children would have been seriously injured or even killed. This defect has been know on this model for some time. What is it going take to get this fixed, another death of a family.
Several times when I have been driving or just starting to drive my power steering has gone out. I then have to turn the motor off and restart the engine and then it will be alright. Twice I had pulled out of my garage and started forward it went out and another time I had stopped at a stop light and started to go and it went out again. I was on a city street at the time.

The power steering assist stops working and it is almost impossible to steer this has happened on 2 occasions in the last 3 months. The dash displays a power assist fault but there are no obd codes. This had a recall which I had the car in for and since it has happened a total of 3 times since. These have all occurred at low speed and the only way to clear it is to turn the car off and restart.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. VIN tool confirms parts not available for NHTSA campaign number: 17v024000 (air bags) and parts distribution disconnect for NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering).
A $300 dollar cost at a Ford dealership just to reset a module of the steering wheel is unjustified. Seems like it would be a manufacture's defect. My 18 year old daughter driving this car when all of a sudden the steering wheel just won't function to make a turn is a grave concern to a parent not to mention a health hazard to any driver. She was pulling out of a parking space and when she intended to turn the wheel to straighten out, the wheel became hard to turn. She could only move it forward back into the space. I feel it merits a recall now and not wait for a fatal case. . .
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Ford fusion se. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the service power steering now and the electronic control system icon illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. An unknown mechanic friend diagnosed the vehicle as the transmission friction element g performance and the invalid data received from abs control module codes were found. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,058. Bp.
The vehicle was being driven by my elderly mother for emissions, as I am currently deployed overseas. The service engine light came on and she lost all electric power-assisted steering (epas). Luckily my mother was able to steer the vehicle off the road and avoid colliding with anything but being 66 if she lost control anywhere else it could of been fatal. The vehicle was diagnosed and determined to have the same fault as listed in the recall for the 2011 Ford fusion model.
My 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid steering wheel was loose and felt like it was about to come off while driving. The steering wheel would wobble side to side and was not secure. This happened while driving on the expressway. I took my vehicle to a Ford dealer in west palm beach, florida. I learned that Ford had recently issued a recall (Ford ref # 18s08) for 2014-2018 Ford fusion loose steering wheels. My 2013 fusion has exactly the same problem. The Ford dealer advised me that my steering wheel problem in my 2013 Ford was exactly the same as in the 2014-2018 fusions, but since Ford had not issued a recall for the 2013 fusion, I had to pay for the repair. The dealer contacted Ford and Ford said they would not cover this defect. This is very unfair and unsafe. The Ford steering wheel recall should be expanded to include 2013 Ford fusions. My fusion was manufactured in the same hermosillo, mexico plant where the 2014-2018 fusions were manufactured. Ford needs to accept responsibility for this steering wheel defect in the 2013 Ford fusion and immediately issue a recall on 2013 fusions before someone is killed or seriously injured. I felt as if the steering wheel of my fusion was about to come off due to this defect. It is a very serious situation.
On July 4th 2018. I was driving down freeway at approximately 74 miles per hour, my vehicle decelerated abruptly down to about 40 miles per hour then down to 20 miles per hour. Steering wheel become tight and practically locked into place. This portion of the event occured withen two seconds at most. The check engine light came on and the console screen on. The left side of accelerometer displayed multiple messages stating my safety systems where not available, adaptive cruise control was unavailable, forward collusion warning was unavailable, rear parking cam unavailable, parking sensors, unavailable, hill assistance unavailable, these where the ones I read while trying to make avoid a collision but other messages continued to display on the screen. Altogether the event in which the deceleration and messages displayed one after the other, in rapid succession, took place inabout 5 to 10 seconds. The sudden deceleration of my vehicle, from 74mph to 20mph forced a large white SUV. To quickly adjust lanes and force two other vehicles to move as well in order to avoid an accident. One vehicle was almost forced into a concrete wall but was able to stop, the cars behind had started to manuver around as well. I the driver was able to correct themselves quickly and continue on. My vehicle was unable to accelerate past 20mph. The exit was close, my hazard lights appeared to be be working, and vehicles where paying attention to my vehicle. I took the opportunity to move the vehicle off the free way and park it at a gas station. With the holiday, I couldn't find any open repair shops. While I waited for a ride I found several forums discussing this is a common issue with the 2016 Ford fusion energi. After about 12000 miles the throttle body needs to be replaced. Sense then I took mine to get fixed, the issue and fix, was replacing the throttle body. Ford won't recall!.

On two occasions after starting the car electronics on steering wheel and console failed to work! no blinkers, to cruise control, no console control. One time speedometer didn't work. Error box appears in left computer screen and does not go away after pressing ok button. I was able to reset system by turning high beam forward twice than backwards once. I believe the turn signal stock is faulty. I was on the highway one time when I discovered the blinkers where not working. Could of caused a accident! only have 40,000 miles on car. Took it to the Ford dealer and showed manager and agreed software problem. No trouble code came up on scanner.
Many Ford fusions have a recall on the steering rack. 2010 does not. Mine is in shop for repair. Also, the transfer case went out. Costly repairs. I am not able to drive due to the steering. Already fixed the transfer case and sway bar.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford fusion. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the power steering suddenly malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn in either direction. The messages service power steering and service advance trac had also displayed. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer adamson Ford located in birmingham, al were notified. The failure was mileage 88,000. Jft.
I can't make a reasonable appointment with a dealer for recall 18v-167 (Ford 18s08) and there two 866 numbers won't provide any assistance to intervene with the dealer to get things moving. Not happy with the dealer response nor mark, nicki or reggi from Ford customer relationships center. Shouldn't have to wait for a safety recall fix nor should I not get help from the manufacturer to intervene on my behalf for a safety recall.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact stated that while stationary, the "power steering assist fault, service required" warning message displayed in the vehicle. Portsmouth Ford of portsmouth, new hampshire was made aware of the failure and stated that NHTSA campaign number: 15v250000 (steering) had already been performed in 2015. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: cas-14754810. The failure mileage approximately 110,000. Ad.
My sister sent me a recall notice, it wasn't pertaining to my vehicle, but I went along and made sure to look up mine also. Upon reviewing my information, I was sold a vehicle I believe should have never left the lot, since there were recalls dating from 2014 and I bought the vehicle in 2017. I called Ford they told me parts weren't in and that I would have to wait, and that one problem occurs when you live in heavily salted areas, I responded with hello lady, I do live in CT where it constantly snows. I have experienced why these would be recalls so far such as the door latch and the restraints, but with such grave recalls as these why was it allowed to be sold off the lot without having the recalls checked first?.
After filling up my tank, I proceeded to exit out of a quiktrip parking lot, back onto the street, when my brakes failed to stop the car. Luckily enough, this did not cause an accident and I was able to pull the car over in a nearby parking lot. After pulling over the service advancetrac light came on, in addition to the check brake system light. I checked the fluids, which all seemed to be fine. However, the brakes would not stop the vehicle unless pressed completely to the floor. This drastically affected the stop time which would definitely lead to an increased risk of an accident. I ended up having to get the vehicle towed as I did not want to risk driving it home.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 18v167000(steering); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Richmond Ford west (10751 w broad st, glen allen, va) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was notified and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
I was not informed by the manufacturer about this recall or when and how to get it repaired. I had to find out online myself when I was searching my VIN.

Power steering assist fault occurred without warning while driving on city streets. I was still able to drive but required a lot of force. 94,000 miles. Initially, restarting the car fixed the problem, but this only helped a few times.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While driving 50 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning while the contact was switching lanes. The vehicle was pulled over to a shoulder lane where the failure was still present. Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. While driving approximately 35 mph, the "service power steering soon" message suddenly displayed before the power steering malfunctioned. The steering wheel became very difficult to turn. After turning the vehicle off and restarting it, the "service power steering now" message displayed and the driver was unable to turn the steering wheel at all. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (lebanon Ford, 770 columbus Ave, lebanon, ohio 45036) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear rack was faulty and needed to be replaced. We were driving in the freeway the car went from 80 to zero it would not go. It stalled in the fast lane almost causing a chain reaction. The vechile has been fixed over 7 times. The dealership cannot figure out what's wrong. Many people online have had the same problems some people have died from accidents. This is very unsafe . Ford says they have recalled some vechiles but not all. They even suggested because it was older. My mother has a 2017 hybrid and is experiencing the same thing as me. The car is not safe at all! if someone doesnt make the fix it many people could be hurt.
