2 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/05/2018

Sitting at a stop light engine started running rough the check engine light was flashing. I took off and it was not running well and couldn't get speed going until around a 1/4 mile down the road. It has happened several times always at idle speeds, once I get it moving and go up to highway speeds the problem seems to go away but the check engine light stays on. I have had the code read and the likely solution is to replace cylinder head assembly. The code was p0316 which indicates too many misfires after startup and code p0304 which is cylinder number 4 misfire. Needless to say I had drivers behind me honking and flashing lights but the truck just wouldn't go over about 5 mph until I was down the road a bit. The first time it happened in April of 2018 and it has intermittently done it several times since then with the latest time being yesterday 11/5/18. I have done some research and found out that there are known issues with the heads on this Ford Ranger. I have contacted them about the issue and seemed to have not gotten anywhere with it.

3 Check Engine Light On problem of the 1997 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

The dome light started turning itself on while parked in front of my house. Sometimes it would turn itself back off. It would also turn on while I was driving at night. I couldn't get the light cover off so I pulled the fuse which leaves me with no windshield washer squirter. The check engine light is always on. No mater what is done or fixed, the light stays on which is a problem because cars will usually automatically fail inspection when the check engine light is on. How am I supposed to get it to pass inspection if its on 90% of the time? I never had a problem with my 93 Ranger but other people with Rangers have had the same issues & this site shows others with the same issues. Why won't Ford recall & fix it when its a known problem? these things are safety issues!! I can't add when these things happen because they are ongoing issues for the last tenish years!.

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

At startup my check engine light came on and as I went to drive away the entire truck started shaking and the check engine light started to flash. I tried to fix the vehicle with a scan tool and started replacing the less expensive parts and when it was all said and done it turned out to be the driver side cylinder head number four and six cylinder they both had recessed valves. Before the truck got real bad I was on the interstate going to be a slight incline and the truck was doing 75 miles an hour and then suddenly dropped to maybe 15 20 miles an hour almost causing an accident on interstate 10 I had to immediately pull off the shoulder of the road to avoid getting rear ended. I just recently replaced the third set of heads on the same vehicle same side same cylinders and I'm being told now that they think its the catalytic converters I really don't know I like my truck but this is getting ridiculous. I've called Ford directly told them what's been going onand they said my truck does not fall under the campaign bulletins and that I will have to replace my head's every 42000 miles.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Check engine light came on. . . Called the Ford hotline no help there they said we where a few miles over the warranty to cover that part. So we took it to our mechanic and he new in five minutes what was wrong we had paperwork showing the problems Ford was having with theses trucks. So I called the nearest for dealer and asked them about it and they wanted to charge us so much to see if they can find the problem we told them we know the problem. They wanted to charge us over 2000 dollars to repair the truck. So we had to hold off due to the economy so bad. So we took it 1 week ago to our mechanic fixed the problem cost us 1900 for everything they where defective heads values where sinking into the heads cylinders had no compression ,so know we are out 1900 to have this truck repaired where all of this is due to Fords bad parts they put in the truck. Ford said they could not help us do to we had a few miles over 70,000 that is bull if they would have told us about this problem we would have taken it in we never received anything from them telling us about this defective parts.

16 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/29/2007

My 2004 Ford Ranger started idling rough and the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they could not find a problem. They reset the check engine light and a few months later it happened again. This time the dealer found that there was no compression in three cylinders do to the valves not seating properly. The correction is to have both heads replaced, a cost that neither Ford or my extended warranty company is willing to pick up. I am a 3rd generation Ford owner and extremely irate that Ford has not issued a recall considering that this is a very expensive mistake on their part, and that they are making the consumer pay for this. Ford is very much aware of the problem as they have issued a technical service bulletin for it.

17 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 03/19/2007

2004 Ford Ranger, 3l v6, engine light came on and dealer said was an injector prpoblem. Took to another mechanic shop, who found zero compression on 5 and 6 cylinders, and the valve seats were damaged. Injectors were okay. Both cylinder heads need replacing with the new . Cylinder heads which would replace the defective, original cylinder heads ,per the technical bulletin Ford released on 05-26-2003, but failed to notify owners or recall the vehicles. This was very expensive, and Ford could be identified as a crap company for defrauding the public and robbing me. Light came on at 55, 000 miles.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/30/2006

Purchase vehicle July 2005, vehicle never had a good pull to it and I thought it was the way the truck just pulled until may 2006 when I was hit from behind by a Ford explorer, my truck got worse. In June 2007 engine light came on wouldn't go off. Gas cap light came on wouldn't go off. Tried to tighten cap, lights still haven't went off. Took truck to mechanic found out that my truck had a cracked head that was indicated that it could have been a defect from the manufacture and or possibly due to collision also Ford manufacture had a defect call back on all 2005 Ford Ranger. In December 2005 five month after I purchase the truck and they ( Ford) did not even notify me of the defect. I do have a copy in my possession from my mechanic. Also I was told that my truck could ignite and catch a fire at any time. . Updated 01/11/08. There was a cracked head on the fuel sending unit. Updated.

19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/22/2005

The check engine light on my 2004 Ford Ranger kept coming on, I was told by one dealer that it was an emission signal and that it would reset. It did but kept coming back. The truck then started running bad, so I took it to another dealer, who told me that there was a technical service bulletin out about this problem and they had to replace both of my engines heads. And of course because of the miles on my truck, I would have to pay for these repairs. I said that if Ford knew about this defect then why haven't they recalled these engines.

20 Check Engine Light On problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/25/2004

We have purchased 3 Ford Ranger pickups since 1992 and have always been happy with them but this last one has only 80,000 miles. On it and when we took it in for check when check engine light came on dealer said "new head gasket needed". So we took it home and to our own personal mechanic and he says "new engine needed". We have always had wonderful performance with these pickups and never less than 250,000 mi. On the engines. I just wanted this on record because I know it has to have been faulty engine and also to let you know that even with the good luck in the past, it is doubtful we'll take another chance with a Ford pickup.

21 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/31/2003

I purchase this truck brand new from gene evans Ford in August 2003. I started complaining to them a week later that the truck rides as though my butt is hitting the pavement on a trip I took. Everyone ignored my concern in the service and sales department. When the problem was finally notice. I was sold a brand new truck with a severe bent axle and they would not do anything to repair the truck nor give me another one. They all played dumb and stupid as to never seeing the problem in the beginning. Ford still owes me restitution. Dealership should not be able to defraud the public on damage vehicles paying a fortune for just to kill you or someone else. Gene evans knew there was a problem from the onset. There has been a lot of problems with this truck in the past, present and most likely in the future considering the repairs that has already been put into the truck out of my pocket. My vehicle does everthing in all motion and no motion at all. Dangerous things happens including, cutting off constantly, lights are dim on the outside so it is very hard to see at night, rain coming in the rear window, truck started smoking, filled the reservoir and over flowed spewing the antifreeze all over the engine. It sounded like food was frying in very hot grease. There is a stinking odor, smells like very strong urine . Sickening feeling comes over me and anyone in the truck. Abs and check engine lights will not go off. The passenger window is moving slow as though it is going to stop. Trucks jumps which causing me to bounce up and down while idling or at a stop.
