Engine stalls and won't re-start due to improper activation of the passive anti-theft system (pats) which is faulty. Engine shuts off, no power assist, lights remain functional, anit-theft dashboard light starts to blink. Vehicle will re-start only after removing and re-installing the #19 fuse to re-set the system. It may require several re-sets of thirty or more seconds each, after which the vehicle may run normally for a short distance or up to several months of normal driving. There are folks who shared their similar experiences on-line alerting me to the re-set procedure. I am told the solution to the problem requires the replacement of the power control module, which the pats is part of, and that it is not possible to otherwise disable the pats anti-theft system.

I started the truck, all gauges read ok, backed it out onto the road and proceeded t drive to my destination. I shifted into 3rd and it felt sluggish, (like brake drag) I looked down at the instrument panel for information, and found no response from the oil pressure gauge. I proceeded to push in the clutch and shut off the motor, but by the time I pushed in the clutch the engine shut down and wouldn't proceed to run. I checked the oil dip stick to find the oil level is acceptable, but the motor refuses to turn over. Problem still occurs to this day.

The vehicle will shut down and you lose total control. Power steering gone. Engine gone. It will happen at any time. The reason it is so dangerous is because I have had it shut down on the freeway going 65mph. I was lucky enough never to have gotten hit but it was a close call. 1. The vehicle would just stall like it was running out of gas. 2. When the part was going bad it would occur every day. When the part was totally malfunctioning it would not even start. 3. The first time I had the dealer replace the part via the warranty. The second time I paid to have it replaced. The third time I replaced it myself. It lasts about a year then it goes bad.

The contact has a 2004 Ford Ranger. The fuel shut off valve was located at the front of the passenger seat under the dash board. The passengers can contact the component with their feet because of its position. This makes the engine shut down when driving. He had to pay to remove the valve and put it behind the kick panel on the right side. The manufacture was notified and he was advised that there was no warranty or recalls on this valve. He sent a letter to the president of Ford motor company. The failure mileage was 24,000.

The vehicles engine shuts off as it is being accelerated, or at cruising speed. The engine is the only system affected but causes vehicle to be undrivable for around 5-10 seconds until vehicle puts itself back in gear after shutting off. This occurs randomly sometimes right away after vehicle is started and moved or other times after longer periods of driving. It has occurred repeatedly, when the vehicle engine comes back and it does put itself back into gear and you start to accelerate again it will cut off. It has caused operator not to be able to accelerate to merge onto highways, pull out onto roads, or to maintain cruising speeds in roads or highways. It has been taken to Ford dealership for repairs 3 times. Each time the engine control relay diode has been changed and blamed for problem. The vehicle has been connected to computer and driven(first time at Ford repair shop), the engine has cut out causing vehicle to stop accelerating and the computer shows that nothing is happening. It continues to read that the vehicle is running fine. I have personally replaced coil pack, and throttle position sensor. The first time diode was replaced the vehicle ran for almost 8 months then problem recurred. It was taken to Ford and diode replaced again, this time lasting only 2-3 months. It was taken to Ford the 3rd time for diode to be replaced, this time lasting only 2 weeks. I called the Ford shop and spoke to manager and was told that the entire wiring harness would have to be replaced because they could not figure out why the engine was cutting out. I was also informed that the wiring harness was not available for them to get and that there was nothing they could do to fix my vehicle, so I was to continue to drive it even though the engine shuts off while driving.

I am the owner of a 2005 Ford Ranger there was a problem with the transmission. It was taken to the dealer after approximately 5 days we were able to pick the Ford up and the transmission was replaced. Shortly after this the vehicle started to shut down while driving for no apparent reason . During one of these times it shut down I was rear ended,it was taken back to the dealer was there for 3 days, and they said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle as they could not duplicate the problem the dealer informed me the vehicle had no problems, and was very safe to drive. Also, I contacted Ford , and was informed there have been no other complaints of the 2005 Ford Ranger just shutting down. This vehicle was far from safe not only for the driver and any passengers but also for other drivers on the road. As it just shut off when it wantedf.
