I sent in a hard copy letter and an e-mail to Ford service in June of 2009. Upon stopping at a party store with my foot applying pressure to the brake pedal, my Ford 2001 Ranger v6 XLT 4x4 motor suddenly accelerated nearly going into the store. I tried to stop it by shifting into neutral but it was too late. The only thing, which prevented me from crashing into a wall and possibly severely injuring myself or someone else, was a protective post which stopped the vehicle the Ranger went over the top of the cement post and was wedged between the bumper and frame. I turned off the ignition to stop the engine. . Needless to say, severe bumper and front-end damage was done. The range has 35,000 miles. This is the third incident of this dangerous condition. I was stopped at a traffic light at gill and freedom in the spring of 2003 when all of a sudden the Ranger accelerated through a red light. I jammed the brakes and nothing happened was able to put gear shift in neutral to stop vehicle. There was no traffic and no damage to Ranger. Second incident occurred in the parking lot of walled lake western high school. Used same technique to stop vehicle after it jumped a curb and ended in the middle of adjacent street. Again, no damage. This happened in 2005. . Read more...

The consumer states that vehicle rocks while driving. The consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer, and the dealer suggested that the spark plugs needed replacing. The consumer sates that the vehicle goes at a rate of 2500+3000 rpm 202 Ranger, shakes in the net or park. The engine cuts out and jerks at high speeds, also when passing vehicles or trucks on the freeways-cuts out, its very unsafe, and the brakes pulsate/shake when applied at highway speeds. (6000 rpm, plus the speedometer shows 120 mph) certified mechanic(s) have stated that there's something wrong with the vehicle.

On 2 ocassions in July 2002; Ford Ranger just stopped running. . . All systems non functioning; right in the middle of the road, with mileage< 15,000. There was no time to pull off road as no warning lights came on; all systems simply failed. First time it was repaired under warranty, it happened again a week later. I might add their roadside service could not be provided as they had no one available. I sat for 2 hours until police came by & obtained a tow for me. Victory Ford in stoughton MA. Did first repair & truck was not running right. When I brought it back the next day; they stated it was road tested. How can they road test when in mileage was the same as out mileage? second time repair was done at a different Ford dealership, which I have no problem with except it took over a week before they could get to it. The repair was completed and I was told it was the main computer chip. But in case it happened again they gave me an extra chip and showed me how to install it !!! real confidence builder!! truck continued to run rough but I was told this was typical of Ford by the mechanic. Second complaint. . . Engine light came on, and when I went to Ford garage they told me they couldn't get to it for days, but that it was probably alright to drive, but that I should have it checked out. How do I get it checked out when no local Ford garages could do it. Took my chances and went on vacation. When I arrived at my destination; a male relative called a Ford garage in n. H. The problem. . A dpfe sensor & it was promptly repaired. This garage in conway n. H. (macdonald motors) treated me the way I felt all customers should be treated. Must I go out of state now to get truck fixed which is still under warrenty and <18,000 miles on it. Thank you for hearing me out & allowing me to vent. I have been a Ford owner for many years & trade vehicles every 2 years. Guess it's time to seek another auto maker.
Problem 1- vehicle regularly stalls or idles so low power steering and power brakes are lost. Problem occurs when slowing for and entering corners and when coming to a stop. Local dealership tells me this is normal and to not worry about it. Problem 2- clutch does not engage when pedal is released. After a moment it releases on its own accord and truck jerks forward violently. Clutch slave cylinder has already been replaced once.
Engine sporatically will not start - no set cycle or reason - later starts okay.

This problem is caused by memory shorting in the engine computer and is partially corrected by disconnecting pos battery terminal switching ignition on/of several times than reconnecting pos battery terminal and starting engine without touching throttle . Than let motor warm up completly , than drive gently until computer memory is reprogramed. This partial fix came from jacobs electronics not Ford which charged me $75 to tell me it was a memory short in the computer. They also believe that the spark booster caused the problem which is impossible because it occured when the truck was new to me at 22 miles. This memory problem if not corrected requires excessive throttle input to start the truck in first gear to avoid stalling which is a safty hazard. Additionally the computer has calibration difficulties which result in slight missing or roughness while driving normally even with the spark booster which greatly helps engine performance and reduces emmisions. The tail pipe has no carbon deposits in it. When ever and if an after market computer becomes available for this vehicle I will install it.
Vehicle stalls when coming to a stop!.
Engine. Knocking rod at only 56,000 mi. Over $3,000 for new engine. Headlights failed to turn on before leaving driveway. Came on after turning on high beams and turn signals. On 4 separate occasions, I'm about to downshift to make a turn and the engine cuts off. No power steering, nearly lost control.

I bought a 2000 Ford Ranger trailhead in may 2000. Since I drove it off the lot ,it has been stalling whenever I push in the clutch to stop or turn a corner. This only happens when the gastank is at or above 3/4 of a tank. Three times I`ve taken it back to the dealer, and I was told there is a problem with the idle, but they don`t know how to fix it. On the third time picking up my truck,I was told that there was no problem. It stalled 5 times on my way home! I even talked to Ford reps. About it and still haven`t heard a thing back. If I can`t get the dealership or Ford to recognize the stalling problem, what do I do?please help me?.
Engine was making a pinging noise, it was a spark plug knock. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated nothing could be done. This was a Ford problem. Contacted Ford, and Ford don't have part to fix problem. Please add VIN.
The vehicle stalls at random intervals. This problem has been brought to Fords attention. The vehicle has been the shop many times and Ford has duplicated the malfunction. However they have not been able to isolate the problem or come up with any fix. The truck has been in the shop for over 4 month during the last year.

Went over a puddle while driving at highway speed and the water got up into the engine and the engine cut off after 10 to 15 minutes later. Please describe in detail.
Ignition spring failed.
Consumer states vehicle is experiencing several electrical problems, the inside light will not go off when the door is shut, the door ajar light never goes off, when the keys are left inside the ignition with the door closed, the chimer will keep dinging until the key is removed, the dealer claimed the problem was the jewel modular, however the bulbs inside the dash keep blowing, when the blinkers are turned on there is a crackling noise that sounds like a wire shorting out, the windshield wipers act erractically when in delay mode, the hazard lights work intermittently, consumer has concerns with the airbag light, when he turns the switch to the off position, the light goes off and when consumer turns the switch to the on position, the light indicates that the airbag is off.
While driving at any speed, the vehicle engine shuts down and cannot be restarted again. Please describe.
Coil pack keeps failing due to faulty sensors, causing vehicle to quit running. Consumer has replaced pack at least twice.
Vehicle shut off unexpectedly. As a result, the vehicle was almost rear ended. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer could not resolve the problem.
Engine knock during acceleration, took it to the dealer. Dealer replaced coil. Ran fine until used regular unleaded gas ignition knock came back.
