My 1998 Ford Ranger caught fire on July 31, 2006. The truck had been parked in front of our house and the engine had been turned off. Minutes later, the vehicle unexpectedly caught fire under the hood and a watchful neighbor called the fire department. Now, the vehicle's engine is completely charred, property on the house is damaged, and the vehicle is a total loss. I have contacted my insurance company and I will have a fire inspector determine the cause of the fire. Further investigation on the internet has led me to believe the fire may have been caused by a faulty speed control switch present on many Ford vehicles. The NHTSA is currently conducting an investigation on this matter, as it has already received over 550 complaints from similar incidents. Please make a report of this complaint and contact me for further information. Thank you.

Caller had an engine fire. Caller's son was driving and smelled smoke, pulled over and called the fire department. The son said vehicle made a popping sound and he could not get away from it fast enough before it exploded. This happened without warning. Fire department came and there was a report filed. Dealer said she did not maintain the vehicle but the caller stated she maintained the vehicle. Dealer said this because she did not take it to a Ford dealer to have it maintained. The manufacturer offered no help. The fire department did not know how the fire started.

I am writing this message to inform joe the auto driver about a situation I encountered. I own a 2001 Ford Ranger edge with 28000 miles. The manufactures warranty ran out and the extended Ford warranty kicked in with zero deductible . The vehicle has been laboring or bucking when it would come to a stop. I brought the vehicle into red mccombs Ford of san antonio, texas. They promised to have the repair done the next day. I received a call the next day that the repair was complete and I could pick up my vehicle. I gave my name to girl at service desk for the paperwork. She seemed to have a problem finding my paperwork. After spelling my name in english, spelling in phonetics (echo, delta, etc), and finally writing in a piece of paper she still could not find the paperwork. Then, she called service advisor who brought his paperwork and still could not find my paperwork. To make a long story short after forty minutes the paperwork was found on another pile right in front of the service girls desk. She then presented me with a bill of $65. 00 for the repair. I told him that I had an extended warranty with no deductible. She called the top service manger and he told me, that repair didnt involve a part change; I would have to pay a diagnosis fee. My patience had just been surpassed and I demanded to see the top gun at the dealership. I was taken into the office of charles hylton, service director who proceeded to explain the same story. At this point I was at my wits end and decided I would split the bill; however, this was the last time they were going to see me. He then trumped me and offered to pay the whole bill. I explained that this should have been offered at first. I feel they attempted to wear me down, so I could just pay the $65. 00 and move on by my business. I have no CO-pay and they knew it! I wonder how many joe drivers have faced an issue like this.

I have complained of constantly receiving massive electrical shocks from this vehicle since it was new. The dealership claimed it was normal. There is nothing normal about the shocks me and my passengers recieve upon leaving the vehicle. It became increasingly worse the more I have driven it. I reported to fort customer assistance line that I began reciving multipe shocks even when I was getting gas . The shock was so severe I dropped the gas nozzel on the ground. No actions were taken oter than attach a little note to the repair order with Ford stating static shock was normal. These are static shocks on steroids, they will jump a half inch to get you ,and go through a leather coat and a heavy shirt. On Sunday March 25th at 8:30 am I had just finished filling my tank with gass the nozzel clicked off I reached for it to remove it and recieved a spark which caused a flash off and burned the hair off my hand. My girlfriend linda merrill was in the vehicle and witnessed the event. . Iam very afraid of this vehicle and cannot afford to sell it . Please assist me on repairing it or getting it bought back.
