High beam lights failed on, the hi-lo beam switch in turn, hazard, wiper combo switch later overheated, burn up, smoke in cabin causing complete loss of lamps, wipers at night in rain. Clearly a common issue based on web. If you are going to send full load current with no control relays force a higher standard on design margins and and mttf. You have (4) head lamps on a car no reason a design should be allowed to cause all (4) to failure. Force multiple relays, modules, and contacts, wiring circuits and fuses. Also fix the blinding headlight issues. I see almost no difference between lo and hi beams on new cars and see spots for 30 seconds after passing cars on lo. Set standards and force certs on every new head light design. Dot/NHTSA should be liable for any crashes related to being blinded with headlights.

The dash lights would blink intermediately and if the truck was turned off while that is happening, the engine immobilizer would engage and the truck would not start. I drove the truck this way for a while and just let it run and not shut it off. Ford didn;t know what was causing it. Eventually I found out that the wiring harness that came together in a y shape, and was supposed to be securely taped only had one strand of tape wrapped around the wires. The metal, where the wires went through had rubbed through the one strand of electrical tape and into one of the wires occasionally shorting it out, thus setting off the engine immobilizer. I bought the truck new so it had to have came from the factory that way. It had less than 50 thousand miles when it started and you would never know when it was going to do it, sitting, driving, city, highway, but usually always running, unless it was shut off while it was doing it and then tried starting it again. It would not crank over , just like there was no battery in it. It was my first new vehicle and what a disappointment. The truck was wired for fog lights but no lights themselves in it, just plastic covers. The short was on the fog light wire where the wires went through the front metal pannel the radiator was bolted on. I wrote in before complaining about this but had not found out what it was then. Ford said it may be the cluster, but it wasn't. They also said they didnt know for sure what it was. It went on last year till I fixed it this year with a roll of electrical tape that Ford was either too cheap to use or poor workmanship. It started last year and took me till this year to fix it.

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the ignition wiring rubbed against the emergency brake mechanism causing the vehicle to shut off. The contact replaced the fuse but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Pam.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that there was a hole burnt through the wiring harness. The contact was informed of the failure while having a thermostat replaced by an independent mechanic. The contact was also informed that the failure could cause a fire. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was not covered by warranty. The failure and current mileages were 62,000.

Fuel shut off switch - the wire harness connecting to the fuel shut off switch are melted. Ford replaced one of these switches during my warranty period and since then I have replaced this switch twice. I now notice that the harness connected to this switch has wires that are melted. This switch has activated numerous times while I have been driving and when this happens the vehicle fuel is interrupted and vehicle stalls. I have had this happen on interstate 4 and on various other roads. I find it hard to believe that my vehicle is the only one this happens to. I recently picked up a new switch which has been revamped with an additional wiring harness and a new connection bracket. The problem is that the old harness that this will be attached to has bare wires exposed with no insulation covering them. I am concerned that this constitutes a fire hazard. I have spoken to the Ford service department in lakeland, FL. But have had no reasonable explanation on this problem.

Driving on i75 when engine stopped. I lost all power. Was able to coast off the road and onto the shoulder. After 5 minutes, truck started and drove home without any further problem. Continued to have same problem, didn't matter what speed I was driving or if I was stopped at a light, and it would stop repeatedly in one week or go for months without a problem. Truck would stop and would eventually restart within a couple minutes or up to 30 minutes after it had stopped. I repeatedly had to coast or push this truck from the roadway without any power steering. In early 2011, the truck stopped 3 times in one day. The third time it stopped in front of friendly Ford, monroe, mi. They kept it for 2 weeks but it only stopped running for them one time and it repaired itself before they could find the problem. In may of 2012, it began stopping multiple times in one day. It stopped and would not restart and I had it towed to crest Ford in flat rock, mi. They discovered the fuel shutoff inertia switch had failed and replaced it and the pig tail wiring harness. It apparently had overheated for some time and had melted the wiring harness into the switch. I paid $367. 94 for these repairs. At this time the truck only had 28,370 miles on it. The truck was used very little and was always kept inside my garage. The dealer told me to contact Ford for possible reimbursement. Ford told me they did not have a recall for this problem at this time but to keep my receipt in case of a future recall. I feel this is a safety problem. This switch is designed to shut off the fuel pump during a crash so as not to feed a fire. I googled for "Ford Ranger defective inertia switch," and found thousands of similar complaints where their Ranger would suddenly stop and eventually would require the inertia switch to be replaced and in some instances, it was replaced as many as 3 times during ownership.
Door ajar lights is lit on dash and dome light stays on. Sometimes will eventually go off, but eventually comes back on by itself or if jarred.

Failure to perform safety recall.
On August 4th,2007 my Ford truck would not start. I had stopped at walgreens to pick up aspirin and upon returning to my truck, it would not start. As before I pushed the fuel pump reset switch. The truck did not start. So I removed the reset switch from under the dash to find it had melted and had melted the plug.

While driving north on I-17 headed to flagstaff, az, at 60+ mph, the engine on my 2003 Ford Ranger suddenly cut out without any warning. This caused me to have to navigate my vehicle from the left lane over to the right shoulder of the highway without the benefit of power steering or any engine power. Fortunately, I was able to get onto the shoulder without incident or injury. If the highway had been more crowed this could have led to an accident. After being towed to a Ford dealer, I found out that the electrical connection to the fuel pump, which is routed under the passenger floor board, had become frayed and disconnected, thereby shutting down the fuel pump. As the mechanic who serviced my Ranger seemed to be familiar with this problem, I wonder why there ins't a recall for this potentially dangerous problem.
Problem with loss of all directional and abs/brake indicator on dashboard on my 2004 Ford Ranger pickup. When pulling out of stop onto a main thoroughfare, my directional quit working as I made the turn. I tried to click them manually, but to no avail. . . At the same time as I lost my directional, my abs/brake failure indicators illuminated on the dashboard. Not only was I not able to signal a turn (at 20:00 hours), but other drivers could not see my hand signals because it was so dark. In the process of trying to make a turn (to return home), another driver honked at me (for lack of turn indication) and cut me off, causing me to jam on my brakes. With no abs available, I of course started to slide. I quickly let off the brake pedal to manually pump my brakes to slow down. I brought the vehicle to the local Ford dealership the following day. The report from the dealership is as follows; customer reports abs light on', 'customer reports all directional inoperable. Verified concern. Found fuse #20-10amp blown, replaced fuse, blew again. Found wiring on frame rail corroded and short to ground. Repaired and checked, all ok'.
Dome lights stays on even when door is shut. Took to local dealership 4 times, would not repair without charge. Stays on even while driving and at night this can be a serious hazard. This has happened dozens of times in the last couple of years. I have to remove the fuse if I want to drive safely.

: the contact stated the vehicle suddenly accelerated rapidly while attempting to slow down. The vehicle's engine revved suddenly without warning. The transmission was placed in the neutral position in order to prevent from hitting the vehicle in front. The dealership determined this was a common problem with this vehicle and was caused by faulty wiring chafing from the wiring harness.
While vehicle was parked for 1 hourr a fire started under the hood. The fire was put out, and vehicle was totaled. Dealership was notified, but did not resolved the problem.

Water intrusion issue on connectors 309 and 304 under driver's seat. These connectors provide vehicle speed information to the 4wabs module 4 wheel anti-lock brake system module the dss provides vehicle speed to the 4wabs. This information is used for other modules such as pcm for transmission shifting water in this connector can cause erroneous codes and drivability issues.

The bed iwas twisted,found out it was dropped on the passenger's side at the factory. The wiring harness was pinched, found out that after driving on the highway at 70 vehicle shut off. The doors popped open. Took to body shop, they did not touch anything, they measured against Ford spec's. This is in court.

Driving on interstate @ approx 60 mph when the engine quit running, actted like a wire had burnt into because the engine stopped and ran intermittent about 3 times.
Within a 2 month period I have experienced 3 separate electrical problems. 1st incident was a surging when defrost was on. Dealer replaced all spark plug wires and said that is was arcing and could have caused a fire or worse. 2nd was the gas gauge was not working. Dealer is replacing fuel sender. 3rd was 4x4 and overdrive not working. Dealer initially replaced blown fuse, but 2 days later was blown again and dealer is currently replacing "wiring" in steering column that was shorting. Truck is currently at the dealers. Very unsatisfied!!! very nervous about the continuing electical problems and incomplete explanations from the dealer.
Steering column wiring shorted out resulting in burning. Mjs.
Electrical wire burned by the transmission causing 4x4 system, overdrive and back lights not to work, wire replaced now all systems working fine.
Wiring assembly failed.
Rpm gauge not working .
Chime and light won't go out, wipers have short. I fear a fire due to overheated electrical wiring/components.
There was a shortage in the leonard cap wires which caused the vehicle to have no brake lights. Further inspection revealed there was no fuse used to install the cap. The consumer felt that had a fuse been used it would not have disables the vehicles brake system. The consumer paid to have the cap replaced and was later reimbursed.
Defective electrical wiring is causing the turn signals to turn on and off, even without the key in the ignition. Also, dashlights/hazard lights and brake lights are acting in this form. Dealer cannot determine what is causing this defect.
