1 Tire problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 03/09/2026

After driving for 45 minutes on smooth highway, my front driver's side tire blew while I was going 75mph. Had I been closer to the vehicle I had just passed, there could have easily been a bad wreck as I had little control of the vehicle. I was fortunately able to pull over and slam on my brakes safely. The tires have under 40,000 miles on them and showed no signs of low pressure or issues prior to the blowout. I was told by discout tire that they would refund me for a replacement tire, but that the falken wildpeak r15s on my vehicle have not been recalled, a different size of this tire model have though. There was no reason for the sidewalls of this tire to blow. The air pressure was fine and there was plenty of life left on the tread. Based on the recall on the other size of this tire model, I would guess this size is defective in the sidewalls as well.

5 Tire problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/02/2015

The tire is bf goodrich p245/75 r16 109s. I was unable to select the correct tire on drop down box. Report as follows. While driving on I-74 I felt a bit of a bump, as if I had run over something. The steering wheel shifted in my hands then went sharply into the right lane. The truck was out of control. As the truck was flipping I saw the guardrail through a side window, the airbags had been deployed by then. The truck kept flipping. The truck then landed on the driver’s side door and spun several times, then finally stopped. I was able to remove my seat belt then stand in the truck. I was able to open the passenger door that was in the air, about 10 inches, enough to look out, scream for help and wave my arm. A man then pried the door open enough for me to climb the truck seats and console like a ladder then squeeze out of the door and jump down. After evaluating the truck, the tire tread had come off of the tire, which is still on the truck and inflated.

6 Tire problem of the 1994 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

Fuzion touring tires p195/70r14 91t tread separating at <14kmiles. I bought this set of tires and rims used from a friend who had bought the set of tires from on online tire retailer, in early 2013 (tire dot code jefj can 4412 made in china). The rims and tires were installed on a 1996 Ford Ranger 2wd initially and then on my 1994 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd. Front two tires began to feel wobbly and vibrate excessively. Upon inspection, the tires were disfigured and out of round. Upon closer inspection both front tires appeared as if the inner belts had peaked in the center of the tire on the tread surface (like the tread surface had been folded around the perimeter of the tire), but not all the way around the tires. This was the obvious cause of the vibration. Tires replaced and everything was fine. The replacement tires were put on the rear and the two remaining fuzion tires were moved to the front. A couple of months later, one of the fuzion tires now on the front repeated the same problem I had with the other two. Obviously there is a defect in the tires for 3 of 4 to go bad in exactly the same way with in such a close time range. The 4th tire appears to be ok, however due to the problem with the other three, I am replacing it too. If you have these tires and experience vibration, immediately investigate the shape of the tire tread surface for disfigurement - if you find any, immediately replace the tire. I can provide photos as needed.

8 Tire problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

While traveling northbound on I-75, near lake city, FL. , the rear, passenger side tire tread came completely off the tire. The tread damaged the rear, passenger side of my Ford Ranger truck. Fortunately, I managed to pull over to the emergency lane and no one was injured. When my mechanic inspected the rest of the tires he discovered that a half dollar sized chunk of tire was missing from the driver's side rear tire. The condition of this tire, coupled with the other one, forced me to purchase a complete set of new tires. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy over this whole incident. I am, however, happy/lucky to be alive and writing this complaint to you. P. S. , just fyi, I am still in possession of all four general tires.

Failure Date: 05/17/2012

Tpms issue, the tpms sensor has failed on the front left tire. This is with 2 years service and 10,850 miles. Ford claim they are not covering sensors since they take abuse from potholes and other road conditions. Sensors were covered but they have had too many problems so they will not cover them any longer. I asked them to disable the receiver since there is no transmitter. They stated it is a safety system they can't since this is a mandatory safety system I would submit Ford has improperly designed the system and it should work at least as long at the warranty.

16 Tire problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/26/2009

Continental tires. . . . . I own 2 vehicles that have come equipped with continental tires and found that over time both sets of tires have worn out due too poor quality of the tire. I have gone on line and looked up on the web site under continental tire and clicked on complaints about these tires and it is alarming how many people are finding that the tires from continental are poorly made and the quality of these tires is putting people in harms way , due to blowouts , tread separation, premature ware . I live in tucson az and just about every tire dealer within 20 miles of me wont even recommend a tire built by continental. Replacing these tires with something different is the only option to be sure you don't have happen to you ,what most people have had happen to them , after you read the complaints posted on the web site of continental tire, I find it necessary to file a complaint about these tires and the company. I feel that someone needs to read the complaints on the web site, and take a look to see if there is something that can be done , to get answers as to why continental feels that there's no problem with there tires. On my 2005 Ford Ranger the tires had 30,000 miles on them and in the owners manual , the tires had a 6 year pro-rated warranty on them. The tire dealer here in tucson was told by continental that they didn't cover the tire from normal wear. The dealer explained to continental that the tires in question were pre-maturely wearing out on the inside edges and the middle of the face of the tire. Continental more less said too bad and wouldn't do any thing about it. This happened on my wife's Ford escape also, and we had replaced her original tires that came on her car , with the same continental brand, and they only lasted 23,000 miles . These tires were rated for 50,000. I not sure what can be done about this, but I feel people need to let some consumer complaint groups know there is a problem that exists here.

17 Tire problem of the 2006 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/25/2009

I bought a new 2006 Ford Ranger sports truck from akins Ford in April 2006. The truck had goodyear wrangler tires on the truck when I bought it. I rotated the truck several times since owning the truck and have even had a flat tire. The tire was replace, repaired and then put back on the truck. I was preparing for a highway trip to new orleans, so I was having the tires rotated when I discovered that all 4 four of the tires were dryrotting. Each tire had evidence of the dryrotting on the inside (the opposite side from the raised white lettering) of the tire. I contacted goodyear customer service and referred to a local goodyear dealer. The examined the tires and estimated that I had 50% wear left on the tires. My truck has 74,000+ miles on the original tires. Goodyear was only willing to prorate the remaining wear for the cost of new set of goodyear. I did not want another set of goodyear since the problem was new tires that were dryrotted and surely had not planned to purchase a new set of tires at this time. My greatest concern was my safety and the safety of others while I was driving.

18 Tire problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/12/2009

Brevard county sheriff and florida highway patrol verified the left rearcooper tire on my '02 Ford pick-up truck delaminated causing me to loose control of the truck on hwy 95 and go airborn and roll over three (3) time, landing in the median strip of hwy 95 in a construction zone, totally destroying my truck. I was removed from the truck with jaws of life, transported to the hospital. My injuries were considered minor, treated and managed in the emergency room at an area hospital. Follow up care with vero beach, FL physicians followed. The delamination of the cooper tire was due to a defective tire. Tire size was 31" x 10. 5 , tire line: owl all terrain tires; vehicle info: Ford Ranger 2002 pick-up truck.

19 Tire problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 02/09/2009

The tires started to wear in an odd cupping shape after checking tire pressure constantly to verify this was not the cause of the wear. Additionally multiple alignments had been performed to also verify this was not the cause of the wear. After driving for weeks later, the tire failed at 35 mph in a busy suburban state route intersection. After pulling aside and replacing the tire, I discovered a delamination of the tread. I had inspected the tires and had seen another starting to show signs of delamination. I immediately started to price tires. I contacted firestone about the issue and was told the tire is not on the recall. Three days later, and the other tire is clearly delaminated. I feel because of the low miles on the tires, the constant and proper preventable maintenance performed, the tires should be replaced.

33 Tire problem of the 1998 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/10/2003

On July 10, 2003 my cousin's 1998 Ford Rangers left rear tire peeled apart, causing the truck to flip and blow-up. There was no warning, what-so-ever. My cousin and a passenger were both killed. The rear tires were cooper discoverer h/t tires. A tire expert later determined that this tire had both a manufacturing and design defect. The family attempted to mitigated this tragic event by contacting cooper tire & rubber company directly. Cooper tire company offered no defense, nothing. We are now in litigation. I personally asked coopers' attorneys about the origin of their tires rubber. I was told, "cooper gets their rubber from various sources. " we request the NHTSA investigate cooper tire and rubber company's manufacturing process. The public needs to know if this company uses unsafe rubber made in china in the manufacturer of its h/t discoverer tire. We also request the NHTSA discuss with cooper its misleading use of the letters " h/t" which suggest the tire is safe for both highway and terrain (off road) use. This is an unsafe tire.
