Tire Problems of Ford Ranger - part 2

I bought a 1999 Ford Ranger on January 31 2003 which has the wilderness at. Tires . I took it to the local dealership they said it was my problem they no longer replace those tires ,could you please help they got really hateful said they gave customers a year to get this done ,but I just got the truck.

Firestone fr480 p225/70r14 40000 miles. Left rear tire experienced tread separation and catastrophic failure.

Firestone has always been a good name brand. They have had some problems as of late. I did not like these tires on this truck when I bought it. Now I'm just stuck with them until something else happens. Dt.

Two tires determined defective at 517 miles could not be balanced. Dt.

After having brake job done and tires rotated I was driving highway speed. Violent steering wheel jerking occurred. Pulled over and called auto repair service who had just worked on vehicle to come inspect. He says nothing they did wrong, belts in tire appear to be separating. Not believing, took vehicle to 3rd party who said same thing. Original equipment on 1999 for Ranger pick up. Ford says contact firestone. Firestone says that probably isn't what it is but will sell me new firestones with pro-rate for usage. Thanks, but no thanks. Dt.

The vehicle fish tailed while driving, because the tires were designed for a passenger car not a truck.

The wall on the tire shredded. The tread has completely separated from the rim on the outer wall. Dt.

While driving the vehicle started to vibrate in the front end. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the tires were rotated but the vibration became worse (225/70r15100s m/s radial tubeless).

The tires show no other unusual signs of wear but do show signs of separation beside the tread the vehicle has 28000 miles on it and I think that it is totally unacceptable for this to be happening at this mileage. Thankfully I noticed the problem before any unfortunate event happened whilst driving.

Blowout-feel fortunate / firestone said it wasn't their tire, but I looked it up on the web and there is a story about this tire being subject to investigation. They only authorized an inspection. I will not let them have the tire. (dot number: hyhyt71187 tiresize: p215/75r15).

While driving, the tire casing separated from the inside of the tread backing and there was dry rot noticed between the tread lines, the other 3 tire showed signs of dry rot between the tread lines as well (marshal 791 touring a/s, p205/75r14, 95s m&s). Nlm.

Pe00 020; consumer is concerned that vehicle is unsafe because of different tires. She received manufacturer's recall o1d77 for firestone wilderness at tires. But, firestone mechanic replaced firestone tires with michelin cross tires. Consumer is concerned that dealer is not aware of problem.

I was driving south on route 5 in southern maryland. I had jsu gone through st mary's city and was speding up to about 40 when I heard a rumbling that sounded like a door had come partially open. My turnoff was in a couple of miles so I just ignored it. After about 2 miles the left rear side lurched down and I heard the rumbling of a flat tire. I pulled off in about a 1/4 mile (coast to stop and pulled off) and the entire outer side wall of the tire was completely shreaded. I went to my local firestone dealer (9400 main street in fairfax va) and he said this is normal for a tire. Somehow I don't think a complete side wall disengeration is normal under these conditions. Dt: Ford motor company refused to replace tires that Ford said they would replace at any time. These tires were recalled, and consumer chose not to replace at that time. Ford told consumer that he could replace at any time. Consumer wasn't notified of any changes that Ford made.

The reason for this complaint is due to my wilderness ht tires I feel very unsafe with these tires on my vehicle. I to the required procedure in taking care of tires( rotate them every 3000 miles, check tire pressure,etc. ) they make my steering wheel shake at all speeds and I am afraid that they are going to cause me to get into an accident. Tire completely shredded and exploded while driving at normal speed on highway. (tiresize: p22570r14).

Traveling along i95 at 65 miles per hour in traffic, heard a bumping noise, pull to side of road saw that the right front tire went flat. Just purchase four set of tires from cella Ford in oct of 2000. Upon returning home went to cella Ford spoke with service technician who informed me they were not a tire dealer take it to buffalo tires who would check the tire and tell what was wrong. Went there told me nothing was wrong had no idea why it went out. Had to purchase new tire because rim rubbed against the tire inside causing outside to separate. Contacted cella Ford service depatment told him what was said and he insisted that something had to be wrong with the tire, that it just didnt go out by itself. I explaine the gentlemen insist they could not find anything. With lack of concern for my safety I find it necessary to replace the remaining tires. Will never purchase firestone again. Firestone, p225/70 r14. 60,000 miles. Original equipment mounted on a Ford, Ranger 1996. While travling at about 50 mph left front tire shredded. There was no accidents. Yh.

Rear right tire literally exploded like an egg at 55 to 65mph.

While driving after having stopped at a red light less than 5 mph when consumer heard a noise coming from right front tire. Ford, Ranger ,1999, p-225/70r15. On may 1,2001 I noticed tread separation on all four tires. Itook the vehicle to roberts tire and recapping at 1210 w. State street bristol tenn. A firestone dealer. They checked the tires and stated they could not gurantee that I would get home without tire separation. They said there was no recall and would only prorate the tires. I called firestone customer service and they said there was no recall. I replaced the tires with a set of michelin from sam sneed tire in bristol tenn. I still had approx 40 percent tread left on the firestone tires. I believe the 16 inch wilderness tires will fail as the 15 inch have. (tiresize: p245/75r16)( dot number: tire size: p245/75r16 ).

After large snow storm bed of truck was full of snow when I heard a very loud whining noise from ft tires they were rotated at dealer now noise in rear. (tiresize: p235/75r15)( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 ).

I have had two firestone 16 inch wilderness at tires fail. There is nothing wrong with my truck. It is an excellent vehicle, but there needs to be a further recall of all /firestone wilderness at tires regardless of vehicle make. (tiresize: p23570r16)( dot number: tire size: p23570r16 ).

I was driving along the highway when there was a sudden change in the handling. I pulled off to find the front tire deflating. Firestone told me that I did not pick up anything, but I blew the inner wall from driving on it while it was flat. The tire was still partially inflated until after it sat parked for a few moments. Slow skid on ice covered road caused right front tire to detach from rim and deflate, causing loss of control of the vehicle resulting in a minor accident , damaging front lower air foil. Damaged limited due to slow speed and snow covered bank. Now have no confidence in the tires and thus do not drive the vehicle until I can replace the tires. (dot number: w2uu tiresize: p22570r15).

At the end of August, beginning of septemeber, we were sent a letter telling us that our vehicle wasn't involved in the tire recalls. And now with more reports out of accidents involving wilderness a/v tires, I have not been informed as of 12/10/00 that there could be a problem with these tires. We have our truck on a lease and I just wanted to inform someone that noone is making an effort to bring the possibility of an accident with these tires to our attention.

Consumers had trouble with the truck weaving and making noise on curves, the consumer replaced all four tires because he felt the tires were unsafe (firestone wilderness at p235/75r15 owl a/t dot w2hl 1ply, spare p235/75x15 dot vdhl firsetone atx max speed 50 mph). Nlm.
