5 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/24/2008

I have had 2 of these tires blow out on me. The first happened about 3 weeks ago when the vehicle was sitting in my driveway. Heard a loud boom at 10 minutes to midnight. Went outside and found a gash in the tire on the side wall about 5 to 6 inches long. I had though some one had slashed the tire but the police officer said that the tire blew out from the inside. This tire was on the right front of the 99 Ford Ranger pick up. I had it replaced with the same tire brand and model. The second tire blew out 6/24 while I was driving at 65 mph on interstate 81. This was the left front tire. The side wall has completely separated from the tread. It looks like the separation starts right above the raised white lettering. One of the other 2 original tires has some of the white beginning to show above the white lettering. The tire that was replaced 3 weeks ago is also beginning to have some of the white that is under the black color of the tire show through right above the lettering. I have replaced all the tires on my vehicle with kelly tires. I have the bridgestone tires if you want them.

13 Tire Blowout problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/06/2003

My daughter was driving my 2002 Ford Ranger on the freeway. It was rush hour traffic, clear skies, sun out and no rain. She felt the truck violently veered to the right, and thought the passenger side front tire had a blown out. But the truck was thrown into the guard rail, a witness behind her said the wheel flew off the truck, then it went airborne and flew back to the left over three lanes of traffic. Fortunately, my daughter had only mild injuries and was transported to the e. R. Via ambulance. In addition, there were no other vehicles involved with the truck or the flying wheel. When I saw the car at the wrecker yard, I noted the whole wheel and part of the axle were missing. My daughter's boyfriend found the tire on the side of the road with the axle and part of the brake components still attached. Has there been any other reports of a wheel breaking off of a Ford Ranger? in retrospect, this truck has only 6000 miles and there has been two blown outs on the driver's side rear tire in which I had to replace the tire within the past two months. The tires are goodyear. Could this be related as well or is it a difference problem?.

15 Tire Blowout problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/03/2001

On interstate the tire blew. The tire was not punctured but it looks like someone took a knife and cut the tread off the sidewall. It was the outside rim of tire. It looks like the pictures you see on tv of the recalled tires. I have been in touch with the Ford dealership and they agree it is not a normal failure and is a tire failure. They will not replace the tires and say it is a firestone problem. I feel the tires should be replace because I don't have confidence in the tires anymore and feel they are dangrous to drive on. I feel lucky that it was a rear tire and not a front tire. I know I checked the tire pressure earlier this week and it was good. I would appreciate any help you can give me with this problem. Thank you mike. (dot number: w244 tiresize: p225/70r15).

16 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/17/2001

The front right tire blew out while driving on an interstate. An accident didn't occur, luckily I was able to get off the road without injury. The tire blew out on the side, not on the tread. My Ford dealer would not cover the charge of a new tire and refused to hear my concerns. I am concerned because of the firestone wilderness tire problems that have been ongoing and want to make my incident known. I still have the tire for evidence. (tiresize: p22570r15).

17 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/08/2001

Both times the tires just blew out on the highway. The 1st time it caused me to lose control and crash thru a chain link fence. The second time I spun around three times on the highway but no damage happened. I have called firestone and they will not help. Was driving with my daughter to my farmhouse in southeastern kansas when my rear passenger side tire just blewout. There are several areas on the tire where the outer rubber appears to have worn off. Those areas are white in color. Also the drivers side rear tire is showing wear and there are white areas showing up on it also. These tires were not in the recall, but perhaps they should be. I was luckly going at a low rate of speed and no injuries occured and I was able to stop. I have contacted the dealer and am waiting for a reply from them. 23 Tire Blowout problem of the 1998 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/15/2000

While driving straight at approximately 10 mph the right front tire blew. The tire has a 2" verticle break in it's sidewall. Upon search of the location, I didn't find anything that I might have hit at the time and I don't recall hitting anything with that tire in the past. Upon inspection, I noticed the tire has other verticle ripples in the sidewall as well as the other three still on the ground. The tire is supposed to have two plys of polyester in the sidewalls. Unless they are adjacent, I can only identify one in the break. No injuries or other damage occured. (dot number: w2fc ip4 tiresize: p22570r14).

2nd tire on vehicle to saparate front sidewall from entire tread of tire. First was back in August of 1999 before recall had begun. Have taken this last tire to 2 dealers and they are unable to determine what caused the tire to separate, but both have said it does not look like a punctured tire. Failure Date: 07/30/2000

We were in a rainstorm on I-95 traveling 70 mph, we slowed to 55 in the right lane and the tire started to wobble, then it blew. We were able to pull off to the side. If the pavement had been dry. We would have been going 75mph. It could have been terrible. The tire completely blew out the sidewall all the way around. It should not have done that when the tires are rotated every 6,000 as ordered. We feel this is a tire defect. Especially since we could have been hurt. ( dot number: tire size: p235/70r16 ).

34 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/19/2000

I need to report a blow out/delamination of a firestone wilderness ht tire on a Ford Ranger truck. Brief summary: a firestone wilderness ht tire blew out about three weeks ago on my Ford Ranger. My wife was driving on a texas state highway at the time the blow out occurred. The blow out was centered on the entire outside of the drivers rear tire. The remnants of the tire wrapped around the axle thus making it hard for my wife to bring the truck to a stop in a controlled fashion. I reported (7:45am cst; 7/20/00; 1-800-392-3673; an individual named david) the incident to Ford motor company. He was appraised of the incident and informed me there was no recall. He gave me the following number to call firestone (1-800-847-3272). I called between 8-10am on 7/20/00. I spoke with a rude and combative person named "rock". He said it was preposterous that the tires caused any problem. He said that my wife was awed by the state trooper that stopped to help her. [ the state trooper informed her of several deaths that have occurred in texas (perhaps bell county) involving blow outs of firestone wilderness tires. He suggested we check into the matter. ] rock told me he wanted the troopers name and wanted to get the firestone legal team involved. It insults me that he would make disparaging remarks about my wife competencies. He never inquired about anyone's health nor took down any specifics (or vagaries) of the blow out. I have little faith in firestone's sincerity in this matter. Sincerely, michael l. Merchant, phd. ( dot number: w2uu ipo tire size: p225 70r15 ).

35 Tire Blowout problem of the 2000 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/14/2000

While traveling in a residential area, the right front passenger tire blew out, the blowout pushed me into the curb and caused major damage to the suspension. After having the truck towed to the Ford dealer, I was told that I had to of hit something to cause the blowout. I hit the curb after the blowout occured. My insurance company paid for repairs under comprehensive insurance with a $250. 00 deductible. I believe all the tires should be replaced and I should have priority since this incident happened, and I should be re-imbursed my deductible, along with my insurance company being re-imbursed( dot number: ).
