I own a 2006 Ford Taurus sel 12v, I was driving when all of the sudden, all of the lights on the dashboard (like abs, brake light,) lighted up like a christmas tree and then I lost all power to the engine. I hit the gas pedal several times with no response but in about 5-8 seconds later, the car started up by itself with an abrupt and violent jerk forward. It was almost as if I turned the key in the ignition to the off position and then quickly back on . . While I was sitting at a red light, I noticed a whole lot of weird stuff going on. The headlights were dimming in and out, the light on the radio (that green light that lights up the controls) was also dimming in and out, and the odometer needle was jumping up and down between 0mph and 5mph, the radio would make a noise like it was shorting out this was due to car about to shut off suddenly, the car shut off with all the dashboard lights lighting up again and then quickly shut off. I replaced the battery, cleaned all batteries terminal and all grounds in car chassis any suggestions, thanks,.

I am a owner of a 2001 Ford Taurus which I bought used and have owned it now for 2 years. It is the first Ford I have owned in over 20 years. Since I have owned it, it has not given me too many problems, just the basic break downs like, batteries, brakes ,seized a/c compressor, coolant expansion tank cracked, ect. Those things are going to break. But what has really upset me is how I have read about the coil springs breaking on the Taurus and causing possible damage to the vehicle. I didn't think it would happen to me but after arriving home today I noticed a small piece of metal under my 01 Taurus and after further observation I found it to be a piece of my rear coil spring from the drivers side. I am a 40+ year old male who has had many makes and models of different types of vehicles and have never had or heard of coil springs breaking as they do on the Ford Taurus. This is a problem that needs to be repaired by Ford and not the consumer. So I can only expect that the rest of the springs are faulty and need to be replaced before I have any further damage to my vehicle. It seems to me that the Ford company does not care about craftmanship or the consumers safety. So change your slogan " have you driven a Ford lately" to " your riding on faulty coil springs". This is a serious problem that is a major safety issue and needs to be corrected free of charge to all Ford Taurus owners.

Car suddenly will not start. Relatively new battery, has not been used to jump other vehicles. When the key is turned on, the lights and radio come on full power, but the needles in the gauge cluster vibrate and buzz and a clicking sound can be heard from the front of the car. Left on someone else battery for 20 minutes, nothing happened when trying to start the car, so cables were pulled off other vehicle and clacked together at same time Taurus was started. The spark led to ignition for some reason.
Replaced battery in 2005 Ford Taurus. Prior to this the automobile ran without problems. After having the battery replaced, the car stalled in traffic without warning. The car shifted very erratically. It stalled on me at 45 mph. Very scary.

The door adjar sensor light stays on. All doors are shut but light stays on. When this light is on the interior lights stay on and also the automatic door locks will not lock. This problem causes the battery to run down and also for children to be able to open car doors when moving because the doors will not lock. I have taken the bulbs from the interior out to prevent running battery down. Have not been able to replace sensors in doors.

I bought a 2002 Ford Taurus sport edition used in July of 2005. Several times the dome lights and puddle lights would not turn off because the car thought that a door was open. There were no doors open. The car is designed to turn the lights off after 20 minutes, but this is a problem. If it happens often enough it could run down my battery. This is the 3rd time it has happened and this time I started the car and drove around for a minute and the dome lights finally went off while I was driving. However the door ajar warning was still on. So I got home and turned the car off and got out and then the dome and puddle lights do not come on now at all. The only way to get them to come on is to unlock the doors using the keyless remote. I am almost positive that the passenger side door is causing the problem, and oddly enough now the passenger side window wont work either and this has also happened before. This is a defect and should be fixed or at least diagnosed by Ford at no charge. I'm only 16 and don't have the money to fix this. Electrical problems can be very pricey and after I pay my car payment and insurance (mind you im 16 so my insurance is high) I hardly have enough money for gas let alone an electrical problem.

This incident has happened before the date below but this time I decided to make a complaint after it happened again. When there is a lot of water and you turn right, my car turns off, the battery light comes on and then it makes this squealing noise. And then it starts right back up. I had this checked out but nothing was found wrong with my Ford 97 Taurus. I've driven through a lot of water going forward in the car and it doesn't turn off or make any noise, just when turning right. I never noticed it when turning left.

About four months ago the engine would completely shut down while driving with a loss of power. This happened without warning, no previous stalling. Once the engine died, a period of about ten minutes would pass, and then a restart would be possible. Sometimes it would take numerous times to restart. After the first occurrence, the consumer took the vehicle to a Ford dealer, where it was still under warranty, and they replaced the fuel pump. The fuel pump did not correct the problem because the engine would still die. The consumer did return to the dealer, and they performed a diagnostic test which showed a valve assembly control failure and it was replaced. Also, they performed fuel pump pressure test, recorder monitor road test, check of battery condition, and a replacement of the electrical fuel pump assembly. After all of these tests and corrections, this was still a problem. The vehicle continued to have a problem that has not been corrected. The consumer went to the dealer six times, and has not contacted Ford manufacturer. After all of these attempts the dealer suggested to the consumer to call NHTSA and check the lemon law. Updated 12/27/05.
August 6, 2004 while driving at 65 mph the vehicle (30,750 miles) experienced a complete loss of electrical power. This included the four-way flashers. Towed to dealer who diagnosed the cause as a weak battery which was replaced.
My battery has run down due to the interior light problem.

Consumer was traveling about 15mph and ran over a puddle of water, and fronts wheels locked up. There was a horrible of noise, and battery lights came on. Dealership was aware of problem.
Intermittent battery discharge. . . Battery replaced 3 times in the last year. . . Unsatisfactory fuel economy -only 9 mph.
Door ajar light on dash stays on. Sometimes ocasionally it goes off, interior lights won't go off because of it, resulting in a dead battery, back window doesn't always work, engine check light goes on and off. The dealer thinks I'm crazy cause whenever I take it in to be repaired the lights are all off. They told me it was a relay switch and they said they fixed it and it still is broken.
When driving consumer noticed vehicle overheated due to a leak within the engine compartment. Also, a problem with battery draining out, and headlights come off and on. Consumer have contacted the dealer. The thermostat failed.

Defective steering column in a 1997 Ford Taurus. Request a defect investigation. Prior to the incident, the red light had come on the dash which indicated a problem with the battery and the steering locked up on two separate occasions. The previous owners of the vehicle experienced four incidents of steering lock up.
The interior lights stayed on after the motor was turned off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that there would be a charge to look at the vehicle. The consumer had to disconnect the lights so the battery won't go dead.
The new auto batteries lack the ampere hour rating making it difficult to recharge properly. Yh.
While driving at highway speeds a defect in the brake foot pedal/stop lamp occurred and drained the battery.
