Failure Date: 05/04/2012

Coming off an on ramp onto the interstate, the car continued to accelerate and the brake would not disengage the cruise control. It reached 85 mph before I shifted into neutral, coasted to the shoulder, and shut off the ignition. I started the car and the engine revved up again, so I shut it off and called for assistance.

4 Ignition problem of the 2011 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/14/2011

This car after six months of age it started to shut itself off for no apparent reason. Driving along, ignition just turns off, a light says shift to park. The dealer can not figure out what is wrong with it. The car has did this five times and dealer put a device on it to record this "if it does it again". Very safe to be the test dummy for a car that stals on the highway. This car is a push button start model. Ford motor company refuses to do admit anything is wrong with it.

5 Ignition problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 12/24/2010

While I was driving with my 13 year old sister in the passenger seat, on the streets,on christmas eve, going about 40 mph, I started to smell something as if plastic was burning, I turned into a shopping center nearby, but with it being christmas eve, it was so many cars inside the small structured shopping center that when the car began to smoke, I was uncertain if it was my car smoking or someone next to me. I continued to drive to the next open parking space, this guy quickly ran up to my car and told me to and my sister to get out because as I was driving he saw fire balls coming from the under my car. At this point it wasa clear that it was my car smoking very badly, I turned off the ignition and the front of the car was quickly engulfed in flames with in seconds. We quickly jumped out leaving the keys in the ignition. We called the fire department and they were able to put out the fire but didnt determine a concrete cause besides an electrical problem. While I was driving no kind of warning lights came on. No check engine light, the thermostat did not read "overheat" or anytyhing. I had liability on my car. It was a 2000 Ford Taurus, but the insurance company wouldn't pay for anything. If it wasn't for that guy that ran up to my car and told me and my sister to get out it could have been a lot worse because we didnt see any flames until I cut the car off.

6 Ignition problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 03/16/2009

2003 Ford Taurus wagon. There are serious safety issues that need to be addressed by a recall: water leaking through the cabin air filter area into cabin compartment and seizing and overheating heating resistor and heater blower motor. My Ford dealer told me there were no recalls for these problems on my car which is no longer under warranty the water leaking through the cabin air filter area into the cabin compartment in many 2001-3 Tauruss have caused their heater blower motors to bind or seize which also burns out the blower resistor. It also eventually causes mold to form in the heater area and under the dampened carpeting. After noting a burning smell several times in my cars cabin after starting my heater fan, my heater defroster blower at first would not work- only to work a bit later-until it finally ceased to work completely. On at least 3 occasions when this happened my vision while driving was severely impeded due to the windshield fogging or icing up, as the dead blower could not defrost it. When I pulled the heater motor and resistor out (still wired) I discovered the cause of the burning smell. When I turned the ignition and fan switch on, the motor seized which caused the resistor to overheat to the point that literally flames were shooting out of the resistor! luckily I shut the fan off completely when I smelled the burning resistor but it is fortunate the car did not catch on fire. Ford is well are of this problem and has issued a technical service bulletin # 04-15-3 to resolve it. The heater blower motor and resistor must be replaced along with the passenger side windshield cowl (which apparently warps from the sun and heat) and an additional piece of rubber molding installed on the rain hat over the cabin air filter. Additionally an area near the over the cabin air filter must be silicone caulked and some foam insulation removed for proper drainage. I repeat the above are serious safety issues that need to be addressed by a recall.

8 Ignition problem of the 2005 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/26/2007

I have issues with this car when the temperature falls between 20 and 35 degrees with a coating of slush or snow from 1/4 of an inch up to 5 inches. The vehicle needs to be traveling at 40 to 65 mph and usually on a straight away such as the thruway. Sometimes when this car has issues I get a thump from the rear axle and the vehicle shifts very hard between 3rd and 4th gear. It's an automatic transmission. . In these weather conditions the vehicle will buck or surge and feels like the mechanical or electrical system is going to quit functioning.

10 Ignition problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/03/2006

I recently purchased a car in December of 2005 and have $6000 as a current balance. On 05/03/2006 I was cranking up my car when it ignited and caught fire and was completely destroyed before the fire department could get there. I called the Ford customer relation department and explained the situation to them and requested that they replace my car because a 2000 Ford Taurus should not just ignite on fire from cranking it up, and they denied my request. I would very much like for your assistance on this matter or are companies allowed to sell customers defective cars and nothing be done about it. I only had liability insurance on it so the insurance company could not assist me. I informed the dealer from where I purchased it and they also said they could not help me.

11 Ignition problem of the 2001 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

I was driving my Ford Taurus and all at once the engine shut down. I lost all power of the vehicle. Fortunatley I was not driving fast about 35 mph when the incident happened and I safetly stopped on the shoulder of the road. Turned off and on the ignition and the car started as if nothing had happened. Driving home the same failure happened. Since then I drove the car two more miles but I am afraid to drive the vehicle, specially on the highway. I am planning on taking the car to the dealer but I fear they wont find anything wrong with the car since the failure seems occur randomly.

12 Ignition problem of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 01/03/2005

2000 Ford Taurus sel 24v v-6 continually dies while in high speed traffic. Car has been well maintained per Ford recommendations. Ford dealership has serviced the car twice prior to current failure for same conditions. Recent recommendation from Ford service personnel was to 'use a different ignition key. ' per recommendations and using a different key, car continues to stall/die while in traffic, rendering power steering, power brakes, and directional signals inoperative. In its current condition, I do not feel that this car is safe (by design or manufacturer's inability to repair) to operate on public motorways. Please feel free to contact me via email at wilmerfjohnson@yahoo. Com or via phone at 908/310-4055 (leave voice mail message if I am unable to answer your call. ) thank you. Wilmer f. Johnson.

The SUV struck my right rear light, and bumper. The accident scene was rual, over a mile to nearest dweling. No phone. Other driver returned to scene. No witnesses stopped. After the body repair work was complete, the service department at simon Ford could not find any proble. Probleb manifested itself 5 or 6 times on the way home. It also showed up driving back to simon Ford. Did not recur while mechanic was with me, for test drive. Problem has occured about 12 times since. The 2003 Ford turus currently has 482 miles on it. Purchased with 64 miles, and accident at 137miles. When problem occurs, after about one second rpm builds to about 1500 rpm, then hangs there for one to two seconds, before increasing.
