The seat warmer overheated and burned through the leather seat cover while my 18 year old daughter was driving the car to a doctor appointment. She veered off the expressway (I-75) and exited the car on the highway to put the fire out. We have already had it to a Ford dealer and documented the issue and had the seat completely disconnected from the wiring system. The car is only 4 years old, we are the original owners. Never any indication that there was a problem until this incident. We are still paying on the loan! through researching this issue, it appears that the NHTSA is already aware of the issues with these heated seat warmers with several manufacturers, yet there is no recall and the safety issue hasn't been addressed at all?.

Waiting at a green light (due to heavy traffic and a congested intersection), there was a sweet burning smell, followed by white smoke. I made it off the road to a gas station parking lot when seconds later, the smoke coming from under the hood in the front driver's side turned black and flames erupted from the same spot. I took myself and my three children out of the vehicle and in less than a minute later, the entire car was engulfed in flames. Apparently, there was a recall on a recall of this make and model about the wiring for cruise control being too close to the break fluid. This happened in front of witnesses and I discussed this with mechanics. Ford needs to wake up, because people can't just blow up in cars they take care of.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact experienced several wiring malfunctions with the vehicle. The instrument panel lights would periodically illuminate automatically, and the headlights were also turning on and off without activating the light switch. The engine would also rev automatically and, when switching from park to drive, the engine would rev again. In addition, when in park, the vehicle would shut off by itself and have to be placed into neutral in order to be restarted. An independent mechanic could not locate the cause of the failure. A diagnostic was also performed, but it did not produce a failure code. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 81,000.

Every time I put it in reverse, my radio goes out, my pl, ps, and pw stop working. If I drive longer than 5 - 10 miles, the lights and all electrical start blinking and the ps goes on and off. I almost hit a car along side of me the 1st time it happened, I only drove it out of town one time after that, now I don't drive it out of town at all. Even in town if I'm driving all over, it does it. I tried talking to Ford corp. And they blew me off, even though I told them nobody knows what it is. Help!!.

In less than two years of ownership with this car, my battery has blown twice. I go to start the car and battery just blows up. The first time I simply heard a crackling noise. The second time I heard a pop like that of a balloon popping. Individuals have told me that this could potentially cause a fire. The dealership cannot find anything wrong; they just replace the battery. They do tell me that it must develop an electrical spike, but they have no way of knowing where it comes from. I believe this is dangerous. The service department at the dealership says that even if they check all the wiring harness, they might not find the problem.
