Ford Taurus owners have reported 136 problems related to blower (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Taurus based on all problems reported for the Taurus.
Noticed pool of water on passenger side floor. At same time tried to run defroster and the fan would not turn on at all. Checked all fuses which were good. Mechanic assessed that the blower motor was not working. Contacted Ford dealer, was told that this is a known problem with this car and could be fixed at my expense. They would need to replace the cowl, seal the leak and replace the motor. This is not just an inconvenience, but a safety issue. Visibility is affected with no way to defrost the windows.

Heater quit blowing air. Went to replace blower motor had water in it. Looks like it has been leaking for long time. I thought water on floor was window being left open.
2992 Ford Taurus ses heater blower switch and seal required replacement Ford dealer had TSB on subject and new parts numbers to replace parts upgraded parts. Cost $600. 00 Ford knows they have problem and redesigned the parts, but will not stand up and cover cost. I have owned a Honda and Toyota and both would have helped with similar problem. It is no wonder why they have become the top sellers in USA. I will never purchase another Ford product ever. They need to stand up and become a auto manufacturer, not weisel word around the problem. If the cause of the problem was me then I fix if they cause then they should fix.
Blower motor did not work on car. Dealer said blower motor shorted because of a leak in the cowl. Same thing happened two weeks earlier and was repaired.
Notice about 2 weeks ago that our blower motor was not working at all times. It has progressively gotten worse and now does not work at all. We cannot heat or cool the vehicle or defrost the windshield or side windows. I know the temp control is working because when I turn the ac on there is a faint feeling of cold when I hold my hand on the vents. I actually work for a Ford dealer and was told that yes it is a known defect where water leaks in and shorts out the fan module. The dealer told me they would install a new fan and shield so it does not happen again but it would be at my own expense. Ford has issued a technical service bulletin according to our advisors but not a recall as they don't feel it is a safety issue. How can this not be a safety concern if you can't clear your windows?.
Heater fan blower only worked on highest speed only. I found out from a service technician that the problem was not a control switch, but was a resistor network p/n f6dz 19a706 aa. I replaced the part and problem was fixed (temporarily). Same problem returned 5 months later (9/26/08). More inquiring at the dealer revealed the problem source. Water leaking through a hole near cabin air filter. Technical service bulletin TSB 04-15-3 explains the remedy and repair instructions. Replaced resistor for second time and installed weatherstrip 4f1z 54022a54 aa, and panel 4f1z 54018a16 baa and applied silicone sealant in the leak hole. Did not replace the blower motor at this time since it seemed to be working. Now 1/25/09 the resistor failed for the 3rd time. Will be replacing the resistor and blower motor since it appears the blower is shorted and is causing repeated failure of the resistor network. I argued with the dealer wb Lincoln Mercury that it should be a recall, but it apparently was not classified as such. One Ford technician I spoke with at this dealer said he had repaired about a couple hundred of these same defects himself. Reference recall number 03v087000.
2003 Ford Taurus. Blower motor failure due to rain leaking through cabin filter into blower motor. Visibility impaired when windshield then fogged. Water found on passenger floor. Blower and resistor found corroded. Dealer replaced motor, resistor, weatherstrip and defective cowl panel/rain hat. Labor + parts $412. TSB 03-15-06.
Intermittent blower motor, wet floor passenger side under blower, water inside the blower motor housing.
Heater/ac fan only working on high speed then quit entirely, found fan motor full of water . Somehow water leaks in from air inlet. Ford aware of problem but will not fix.
Taurus with a water leak or blown a/c heater blower motor. The blower on my 2003 Ford Taurus quit working all together. I have water draining onto the passenger side floor in rain storms. The blower would only work on high speed before it stop working completely. Refer to Ford recall number: 03v087000.
My 2003 Ford Taurus heater fan motor stopped working in slow speeds at about 51,000 miles, for about a month only the fast speed would work and yesterday the fan stopped working altogether. Replaced the relays and fuses to no avail, last resort will be to change out the fan motor itself.
Blower motor worked then quit all of a sudden when I was driving. Did not work on any setting. It was raining and windows were starting to fog. I thought I was going to wreck because I did not have any defroster. Recall number 03v087000 does not fix this problem even though its similar. I think it should include this problem because having the blower motor go out is dangerous.
Blower motor noise, and leaking on the firewall. The leaking started in 2008, I had the trough above the firewall and the blower motor replaced, and now the blower motor makes a loud vibrating sound. My car is a 2002 Ford Taurus ses and it only had about 50,000 miles on it when it started leaking, and now only has 72,000 miles on it, with the blower motor making these sounds. I am filing a formal complaint. Existing recall number 03v087000 and a second complaint number is 10184014.
Bought a used 2003 Ford Taurus se and after owning it 6 months, the blower motor started making noises. After a couple months of the noise, the blower motor only works on high. I replaced the blower motor in Feb 08 and it will only work on high as well. I noticed many people on the internet are having the same issue and I hope a recall will occur.
Heater blower motor went out on my 2003 Ford Taurus. It is a known issue through Ford motor company, as they have issued a service bulletin on it. My local Ford dealer refuses to replace the motor under warranty. Water leaks into the motor that causes the problem. There are many people with this same problem. It is dangerous in the winter because my defroster doesn't work and my front windshield stays fogged up.
2002 Taurus, blower worked intermittently for the past couple of weeks, and only work on high speed. Mileage:56,000.
My passenger side leaks onto the floor and now the blower has been ruin due to the water that floods in during the rain storms.
Heater fan not working causing loss of defrost in winter almost resulting in collision.
Blower motor failed due to water pooling on electrical components during rain events. Rain hat in 2002 Ford Taurus is defective, as described in Ford service bulletin: bulletin #: 031506 sequence #: 10011149 date: 08/09/2004 Ford is aware of this problem. Part is due to be replaced later this week.
2003 Ford Taurus. Blower motor resistor rusty and bad from leaking water. Technical service bulletin #031506. Nhtsa #10011149. A known issue that should be repaired under a recall.
I purchased an 03 Ford Taurus 5 months ago from a Ford dealership in PA. Upon the winter season's arrival, I turned on my heat to hear a loud squeaking noise. I took my car to a repair shop where I was told that my blower motor was full of water due to a faulty cowl on the car. I was told that Ford was aware of this defect, and that it was semi common, but that Ford was not going to cover it under a recall. I was also informed that I would have to pay 500. 00 to replace the cowl, the blower motor and a resistor. I called Ford to voice my anger about the situation and their response was there were basically not enough complaints and that it was not serious enough to warrant a recall. I disagree. I drive my 1 year old daughter around in the car. I am unable to defrost my windshield because of this, and can often not see out of my winder without rolling them down to let the fog lift off the windows. This is unacceptable. Someone could die as a result of this defect. Ford must be held responsible for this. There was an apparent related recall, but Ford still did not and will not take action. 03v087000 <--- recall.
The contact own a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the heater would not blow. The dealer stated that water inside the blower motor caused the failure. They replaced the blower motor and resistor. The current and failure mileages were 44,500.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. On November 26, 2007, the heater blower motor failed. On November 27, 2007 the local mechanic stated that there was ice in the air box and it was corroded and covered with mold. A technical service bulletin stated that water was entering into the air box and contained mold. The contact noticed an odor in the passenger compartment when the heater blower was working normally. The local mechanic replaced the rain cap near the blower motor, weather stripping, and air filter due to the rust, mold, and ice. The failure occurred when the vehicle was under warranty; however, the dealer never replaced or repaired anything. The vehicle was garage kept and not driven on a daily basis. The contact is aware of the safety risk involved with the mold in the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 41,681.
Heater/ac either didn't blow or only blew on high. When it doesn't blow the windows fog and the baby is very cold. Reference recall 03v087000 and complaint 10184014.
1. Heavily raining on an hour trip from home. 2. Blower motor for heater stopped working making it unable to see road, traffic, etc and making it freezing in car. Was almost in accident since unable to see. 3. Contacted Ford motor CO to check recalls. Unable to locate however if you google the problem it appears that there is a defect in the making of this vehicle resulting in damage to the blower motor and sensor. Ford is aware of the problem and has a fix for it however you must pay for the entire cost. Please see the following technical service bulletin TSB 04-15-3. . Read more...
When it came time to use the heat, which wasn't needed before this problem, the heat only worked on high. Sometimes it would not even work. Now, the air does not work as well. They work on high every once in a while, but that is it. A mechanic told me that he has seen this quite often in this year model, and while you can just replace the blower motor switch for a temporary fix, it will continually go out each year, and the only real fix is to replace the air compressor.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Taurus. The contact had to have the blower resistor replaced in her vehicle because the air would only be distributed in high amounts. Several weeks later, the knob failed again and a representative from the dealer stated that water was leaking in the vehicle through the engine, which led to the blower resistor failure. The failure occurred three additional times. The contact stated that she can hear water entering her vehicle in rainy weather conditions. The dealer stated that her VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v087000 (visibility: windshield). She is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 147,579.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. While driving 35 mph, the blower fan was very loud and the contact was unable to activate the heat. The dealer stated that the a/c heater blower failed due to water leakage. As of November 2, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The contact felt that the recalled part caused the water leakage. The current and failure mileages were 46,000. Updated 12-12-07. The blower motor made a noise and doesn't work at times. Updated.
Blower motor went out due to water coming in from under hood on 2002 Ford Taurus. Cost $500. 00 to repair and was no fault of mine.
I was online checking for an ac/heater blower motor as it only works on high. I discovered a recall for the Mercury sable (03v087000) regarding the windshield leaking water onto the passenger side floor. The leak drips on the ac/heater fan motor causing it to short out and to stop operating. I live in wa, I found water on the passenger side floor several times but never found the leak. I see there have been many complaints about this problem. For a temporary repair, I can replace the blower for $500. For a permanent fix, I will also have to replace the windshield, another $500. Thanks Ford, you recalled the problem on the Mercury sable, why not the Taurus.
Car was out in the rain. Water leaked into the passenger side floorboard. Had passenger side cowl replaced, rainhat kit installed, and replaced blower motor less than 14,000 miles ago to fix the same issue. Hopefully won't have to replace the blower motor again.
Ford heater automobile: Ford Taurus, 2002, mileage: 54,700 subject: design defect, heater motor installation background: air intake for the heater and air conditioning system is located between the hood and the front windshield. Rain flows into this area and passes into the heater ducting. Some of this water flows into the plastic housing for the blower motor causing early failure. Potential hazard: early failure of the motor may result in the inability of the vehicle heating system to remove condensation from the interior of the windshield. In addition, the failure of the heating system during cold weather would not melt snow and ice that may accumulate on the windshield. Problem: the blower motor is located under the right hand dashboard housed in a molded plastic assembly. This location is one of the lowest points in the heating system therefore water accumulates in the motor housing plastic assembly submerging the rear one-third of the motor in water. This results in early failure of the motor due to water contamination, as there is not a provision to drain water from the plastic housing. Comments: this is a known engineering defect as Ford sealed the housing with a rubberized compound to prevent water from the heating system flowing onto the floor. Corrective action: mandate Ford motor company to recall the 2002 Ford Taurus and other years and models with a similar system to install a drain in the heater motor plastic housing in order to drain the water from the assembly. I have retained the failed blower motor and plastic assembly for your review, if required, in order to observe the results of this defective design. Note: I could not delete an error in equipment on the next window as this heater motor was installed as original equipment on the Ford. Please disregard the equipment window. Updated 01/07/08.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact noticed water leaking onto the passenger side floorboard of the vehicle. A few months later, he began experiencing failure with the blower motor, which caused the heater, defroster, and air conditioning to not work. He called the dealer numerous times and they stated that it was a common failure; however, there was no recall. They offered to place a rain cap over a new blower motor, but it was not covered by the manufacturer. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 106,000.
