Dear general, on 6/17/00, I purchase a used vehicle from germain big lot, naples, florida. The vehicle purchased was a 1997 Ford Taurus gl, VIN# 1falp52u0va144113. On the date of purchased, during my test drive, I question the saleswoman about the feel of the brakes. Her reply was that I was used to disc brakes and that the Taurus had anti lock brakes and I would get used to the feel. Upon applying the brakes, they would pulsate and the car would experience some vibration. I purchased this vehicle in good faith and under the assumption I would get used to it. The sales person also informed me that the car had just less than 25,000 miles and that it had factory warranty up to 36,000.

I was coming home from work at 35 mph the light turned red I hit the brakes and the car accelerated and I pushed the brakes again, but it would'nt stop . I ran through the intersection and hit another car, causing him to hit someone else. If the speed zone had been higher someone could have got killed.

While driving from 35 mph and above grinding and pulsation from front brakes lead to replacment of brake pad and rotors three times at 40,000 miles abs "electronic control unit" replaced 50,000 miles $700 repair.

When traveling 35mph on highway consumer applied brakes, and they hesitated/ and shook and and vibrated. Also, brakes pulsate, and wandered off to the right. Dealership has replaced brakes twice within two weeks later.

Front brakes are not operable. When he applying brakes pedal goes all the way down to the floor.

While vehicle was parked it smelled like a burning odor from the rear right brakes. Technician said that part was worn out.

When braking consumer would hear a grinding and grumbling noise, this happened at 30,000 miles. Consumer felt that brakes were worn out. Took vehicle to dealer, and had top front and back brakes redone.

Heater core only lasts 12-13 months, dealer can not find prob with abs brakes. .

Brakes work intermittentlyywhen con applies his brakes there is a clinking noise. The dealship has been contacted.

When brakes were applied vehicle and steering wheel/column would vibrate moderately to violently. Dealership looked into this defect and replaced front rotors/ tires, and brakes. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Abs module needs replacement. Replacement would cost approximately $587. 90. Consumer would like to know if this is a safety issue. Why? must we pay instead of manufacturer.

While driving at a speed of 25 mph and upon applying the brakes, they failed, causing consumer to rear end the vehicle in front. This accident occurred in dry weather conditions.

While driving at a speed of 55-65 mph and applying the brakes rear end of the vehicle would began to shake, and fumes would come into the car.

While driving at speed of 10 mph brakes will lock up in rainy conditions, cauing the vehicle to cut off. This happened several times.

While driving at 70mph going down a 5% grade, car will not hold in cruise control. Car goes from 70 mph to 85 mph within seconds on steep grade. Also, brakes are not strong enough to give good braking power. Taken to 2 dealers, and they said it was a characteristic of the Taurus.

While drving vehicle about 50 mph and when consumer stepped on the brake pedal to stop vehicle the brakes did not work properly, and the tires would shake or vibrate. The rotors were replaced twice, but still experienced the same problem. Dealer was contacted.

Since purchasing car it has had a popping sound when braking and turning.

While driving the steering locked up and there was no steering in the vehicle. Tried to turn the wheel and there was no reaction in the wheel. So the driver tried to apply the brakes and there were no brakes in the vehicle. This problem happened all of a sudden.

During panic braking, pedal goes to floor without immediately engaging brakes; causes increase in stopping distance; almost caused crash. Not checked by dealer.

After 8 miles new vehicle needed to turn rotors. After approximately 3000 more miles another set was needed. Approximately every 3000 miles new rotors and calpiers. Put in new systems , dealership can never fix defect properly. Uncontrolable in the steering wheel. This defect can result in an accident.

Consumer was trveling about 10 to 15 mph and upon depressing the brake pedal, the pedal went to the floorboard, resulting in extended stopping distance, causing consumer to have an accident.

When driving through water or rain the battery light comes on. Brakes make a squeeking noise and the steering locks up. Contacted dealer when under warranty. Problem went away temporarily, but currently problem reappeared.

The vehicle lost its abs system. The owner went to apply the brakes and the pedal would not depress and the car would not stop.

The defective rear braking system malfunctioned causing more wear and tear to the front braking system which caused extended stopping distance. Almost resulted in an accdient.

Vehicle drifts off to the right ,and when applying the brakes the vehicle shimmies excessively. Dealer says steering column was malfunctioning. Problem still exists.

There is a malfunction within abs system. While applying brakes there is no stopping point, vehicle will continue to skid a couple of feet further.

Anti lock brakes locked up resulting in an accident.

During a close proximity, panic stop attempt, the brake system cycled and a collision ensued. If the brake system had not cycled, the accident could have been avoided. This is the second occurrence to me in 2 different Ford vehicles in less than a year. In each case, I feel that the accident could have been avoided if the anti-skid system did not cycle at speed under 25-30 mph. I have contacted Ford about this and they seem to be uninterested. If it had been a child running into the roadway from between cars, in each instance, I would have run over them. Does anyone besides me see a problem here?.

When the brakes were applied, the abs automatically kicked in and caused the vehicle to shake violently.

The braking system is horrible and dangerous. I change brakes every 20,000 miles or less. I drive highway miles and should be changing as often. All I get told by the dealer is that they need to be changed every 20k miles. The car shakes and makes noises.

We've tried to contact Ford several times, but only receive the standard courtesy letter & "they will look into it". In the meantime, anyone in that car is at risk due to the seriousness of the problem. Our own children can't ride in it! we have to have a vehicle to get to work, so we'll have to try to get rid of it, since Ford refuses to respond. All we would want is it fixed! there's also a problem with the paint peeling off of the front bumper that will cost $250. 00 to fix!.

Brake pedal was on soft side. Would only go 3/4 before brakes catch. Vehicle felt as if it was coasting whenever brakes were applied. Took to dealer, and a diagnostic test was done. Nothing was found.
