The check engine light had come on, there was a problem with cylinder 5 and the ignition coil was replaced on the cylinder. The check engine light had come back on. The dealer diagnosed a burnt exhaust valve on cylinder 5.

When consumer was exiting the freeway engine check light came on and vehicle stopped. Then, smoke started to come from under the hood, and vehicle started to make a noise. From that point on each time vehicle cut off, restarted, and moved a bit. Afterwards, vehicle cut off and consumer restarted it until he got home. Then, had it towed to a private mechanic, who told him that the sprocket came loose. Mechanic attempted to repair the vehicle, but could not because the labor and parts would cost about $6000. 00 - $8000. 00. Consumer told mechanic not to bother because he could not afford it. He had the vehicle towed back to his home. The cam shaft was broken, 2 cylinders went bad, the transmission was affected, the vehicle would stall possibly due to the coil packs and the struts went bad.

While driving check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumer contacted the dealer and informed him that this incident happened more than once.

While driving about 55 mph on the highway and without warning vehicle shut down, and the engine check light appeared on the dashboard. Vehicle will restarted on and off intermittently. Vehicle was towed to the dealership, and the mechanic at dealership was aware of the problem.

1998 Ford Taurus; 78000+ miles: recurring transmission problems. Owners manual indicates that the illumination of the check engine light may not be referring to a mechanical problem that will affect performance of the vehicle. Our light came on one month after we purchased the car. It would go off when we changed fluids or brand of gasoline. On June 28th there was a noticable change in drivability as the speedometer stopped working completely and the car would no longer shift from low gear. The engine would rev to 5000 rpms trying to shift but could not. I certainly believe this to be a dangerous situation while trying to maneuver in 55 to 65 mph traffic. Aamco now tells me that it will cost 1500 t0 2000 dollars to fix the problem. I ran a 1993 Ford van to 270,000 miles but I did not know that this model had a 12 year history of severe transmission problems.

This car continually stalls out , the battery light comes on, the engine repair light comes on, the underneath suspension squeeks and groans, the brakes squeak, the wheel doesn't turn when the car stalls out. It has happened numerous times when I am turning a corner, the car stalls out and the wheel will not turn. Now the computor systems are not working the air conditioning. I have to restart the car to get the radio and the air conditioning to start up. These things happen but no one can find a problem.

Noticed a knock in the engine and was going to have it checked out when going down interstate 75 at 65 miles and hour the car lost acceleration in heavy Friday afternoon traffic. I was able to get off the expressway and call for help. I had the car towed to a local Ford dealer. They have now had my car for 48 days. I was told that the camshaft on the right side of the engine had malfunctioned and would have to be replaced. I was told the repairs would be between $2,800-$3,300. I authorized the repairs. After finally getting the parts, repairing and putting the engine back together it still did not run properly. They had to pull the engine apart again and now said they would need approximately $2,000 more to repair the valves and head. They replaced the valves and were able to machine the head. They put it back together and returned my car after 35 days and $4,400 in repairs. The next morning on the way to work the check engine light came on and the engine was running very rough. Took back to Ford after 4 more days I was told the other side of the engine was now malfunctioning and it would cost me approximately $2,000-$3,000 more in repairs. After going to the head of service/parts they agreed to cover the last repairs. I was informed that when the repair was complete that it may happen again. If I would have know all this in the beginning I would not have authorized the repairs.

Heard tapping sound coming from engine check engine light flashed three times lost all power to vehicle upon inspection from Ford dealer they confirmed that the cam sprocket had stripped from the cam shaft as a result the engine is totaled resulting in a 6000. 00 dollar less tax and labor repair bill. Dt.

Freeze plugs failed at 65mph; thermostat showed normal; engine light came on only when engine died; required head gasket job. . .

When accelerating onto interstate highway the engine momentarily cut out,the battery light flashed on then off & the check engine light came on & stayed on all the way home. Dealer checked it out and found no problem. It has operated perfectly ever since. Dealer performed test p1237 & ssm 14041 & could find nothing wrong. .

My car broke down 10/21/2000. I lost all power on the freeway driving with my 2 year old son. I took my car to 3 Ford dealerships and none of the mechanics could figure out what was wrong. Finally I found an independent machine shop who was competent enough to not only diagnose and fix my car properly, but they had to piece my engine (including the axles) together after a Ford dealership refused to put my car back together. I had no vehicle for 7 months and had to pay $3171 for the repairs not to mention 4 tow trucks. Shortly after having my car fixed I noticed it would idle high when sitting at stop signs or lights. Eventually my check engine light appeared and recently discovered it is either the throttle position sensor or throttle body. Regarding the cam sprocket failure, I know of at least 69 people who have had the exact same problems with their Taurus sho models. Ford refuses to help fix its defective product and hopefully no one will have to die from this sudden engine failure before action is taken. Thank you.

Consumer bought vehicle brand new. Vehicle stalled anywhere without prior warning. Also, engine check light came on the dashboard. Consumer took vehicle to the dealership.

While traveling under 40 mph and applying or tapping brakes, and then reapplying accelerator, engine will begin to rumble and cause vibration in vehicle for a couple seconds, and then shutdown. Engine check light will come on. This also occurred while vehicle was idling. Consumer sometimes wasable to restart vehicle after this event occurred, ,while other times he was forced to have vehicle towed. Dealership has examined vehicle, and worked on fuel pump on two occasions, and fuel delivery module replaced by a manufacturer's recall. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

V6 engine head gasket cracked, causing an engine fire while vehicle was in use. Prior to this incident, consumer had complained about engine check light coming on. But, dealer did not detect a defect.

Intermittenly check engine light become innoperable obstructing drivers. Rear brakes squealing and moaning failed caused by the rotors. Rotor which went bad causing damages the rear brakes and pads. Please provide further information. Ts.
