Electric Power Assist Steering System Problems of Ford Taurus

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the electric power steering fault message was displayed, and the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The contact restarted the vehicle and was able to correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved a dtc code for the electric power steering, but no repair was recommended. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle electric steering rack failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

We bought the car in August 2015 from a bank. After we got it home a "power steering assist fail" light came on. We took it to the local Ford dealer back then and since the light comes on randomly, they could not get a report to show. I told them that there was a loss of power steering assist recall in June of 2015, but since my VIN was not one of the recalls they refused to do recall work. The power steering assist continues to give us trouble and when I called Ford customer service last week, they said since my VIN was not on the recall list, I would have to pay for the $1800. 00 for repairs myself. Last week the power assist failed while pulling into a parking spot and I almost hit another car because I could not turn my wheel. My transmission tech ran the vehicle system report yesterday 9-2-21 and we got the error, even though Ford said they could not see it. It is recall 15v340000. I assume that Ford failed to get our VIN in the recall list and we are just trying to get the manufactured defect repair completed that is not out of our pocket. How can we go about this?.

The mechanic then called the manufacturer who informed him that her vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). The mechanic then referred her to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
