3 Engine Failure problem of the 2009 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 02/27/2009

Engine stops running and has to be restarted. It has happened at least 6 times over 22 months and had it to the dealer 4 times. They have tried several things to solve the problem but to no avail. One time I was going to make a left turn and the only way I noticed the problem was that the car would not turn because the power steering did not work due to the engine failure.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 2008 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 05/22/2008

I have a 2008 Ford Taurus x with approx 8000 miles as of this writing. Approx. One month ago, I was driving on a very narrow 2 lane road and my engine failed. I noticed because the steering wheel would not turn and brakes were difficult to apply. I pulled to the side and started the car. It started right up. This past week, the same thing happened as I was driving on the same road. This time I put the car in neutral and started it, then put it in drive. I am afraid of driving this vehicle now due to the potential danger. I take my grandchildren frequently and fear I will not always be in a straight road driving situation if this occurs again. My dealership seems very cavalier about this entire problem. They say they cannot find a problem and that it may never happen again. This is not good enough for me.

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

Engine failure caused by no compression in 2 cylinders. Vehicle is a 2000 taraus with 71,000 mile 3. 0 liter engine. Dealer says I need a new engine. Ford district service manager unwilling to offer any financial assistance towards the repair. A car should not need a new engine at 71,000 miles. I have properly maintained this car.

7 Engine Failure problem of the 2003 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 07/28/2003

While driving at highway speeds (65-70) when accelerating to pass, car bucks violently (at 70k miles on odometer). Also, random rough idling since date of purchase of vehicle in July 2003. After taking car in numerous times to dealership while under warranty and they were unable to diagnose even after hooking up recorder. Did my own research on line and discovered a faulty camshaft synchronizer was the problem. This is a $400 repair that Ford is aware of as there is a service bulletin on it. However, the failure rate is usually after the warranty expires making it the responsibility of the consumer. I have also personally spoken with a dozen Taurus owners who have experienced the same problem. Lodged a complaint with Ford motor company who did not respond or follow through. Very disappointed as this could pose a serious safety problem for consumers not to mention catastrophic engine failure if the synchronizer fails completely. If your Taurus has a rough idle that is intermittent and the diagnostic says there is no code, it is probably this problem as the service bulletin from Ford indicates that the cam synchronizer does not throw a code to the computer system. Also, if your car bucks or hesitates on hard acceleration or there is a high pitched chirping sound, it is the cam synchronizer. If you take it to the dealer tell them what it is so they don't charge you an additional diagnostic fee that will show no problems! it's bad enough to have to pay $400 for a part that shouldn't fail, but does after the warranty expires. Ford should have issued a recall on this and other vehicles that had the same problems (know to occur in the f150 as well).

8 Engine Failure problem of the 1997 Ford Taurus

Failure Date: 10/13/2002

Cam sprocket failure could have been prevented by being notified by Ford. Ford has know of the problem and should have notified owners as there is aprocedure to remedy this problem. By not welding the cams engine failure accurs causing excessive damage to engine. Preventive welding for $ 500. 00 corrects the problem. I now have to replace total engine at a cost of about $6,00. 00 for salvaged motor. Dt.

Failure Date: 10/29/2001

My 96 Taurus sho had severe engine failure at 66,682 miles. The engine (camshaft) should not fail on well cared for vehicle with only 66,682 miles on it. There is a design flaw in the sho engine that is casuing hunderds of consumers to pay hunderds of thousands of dollars. Why isn't anyone causing Ford to address this. There ought to be greater consumer protection against a manufacturer of a defective auto. Please assist. Thanks!.
