Front Air Bag Problems of Ford Taurus - part 1

On 22 Sep 10 my wife hit a parked truck in a 2002 Ford Taurus. Her car hit the right front at about 35 mph and the airbag didn't deploy. She suffered a non-displaced fracture of the sternum as a result of the accident. The car apparently went under the truck's bumper. The right headlight, hood, windshield and right front side were damaged. The car was totaled as a result of the accident.

Stopped for vehicle a that was turning - vehicle c came from behind and plowed my 2004 Ford Taurus se into the vehicle a . Vehicle c was a large f250 truck traveling on main highway. My Ford Taurus was impacted from rear and front impact. The car was a total loss in the accident . Sept, 2010. The rear frame surrounding the trunk was bent. The front drivers side was damaged heavily. The air bags in the vehicle did not deploy from front and rear impact. A vehicle that we purchased for this specific safety feature and paid extra for failed!.

Vehicle was parked at residence. At about 6 am I unlocked the driver's door with my keyfob. I entered into vehicle. Started vehicle, shifted from park to drive. As I moved forward approximately a car length while turning the steering wheel to make right turn out of parking space, the drivers air bag deployed. Vehicle@ repair shop waiting for new parts.

Air bags on 2004 Ford Taurus did not depoly on frontal impact at appox. 45mph.

1. Was backing up from a parking space and the airbag in steering wheel just went off. Did not hit anything. First time it happened. 2. Contusion of face, scalp, and neck except eyes, contusion of hand and arm, hypertension. 3. Took the vehicle to the local Ford dealer, Ford motor company requested the module be sent to them before they would replace the airbags. To this date Ford has not fixed the vehicle or given any reason why this happened. We feel the vehicle is not safe to drive and even if they repair it we will still not feel safe driving for fear of airbag coming out and hurting us again without any impact.

Rounded a curve and realized the oncoming car was in my lane. Steered left to avoid oncoming car at the same time the opposing driver corrected. Steered to the right and went into a spin. The airbag deployed while the I was attempting to regain control and the windshield was completely shattered. Once the airbag deployed, the car was still moving and I had to steer it to safety without being about to see around the airbag. There was no impact before the airbag deployed.

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus that I purchased from a private owner about a month ago. When day I was driving it I started to hear a clattering noise coming from the right side of my dash board. I opened up the glove box behind is the air bag compartment, above this toward the back is a connection that looks like a thin rod that has a plastic connector. I felt the rod so I could find out were it went to, it seems to go into the fire wall. The plastic fitting is real loose so I do not know two thing`s. 1) will it being like this will it deploy for know reason? 2) is this part of the air bag and if it is would it make this kind of noise like a clatter since it is loose? I have kids and a wife and I do not want them to get hurt buy the bag deploying or anybody else getting hurt. I do not have the money to fix this please tell me that the NHTSA will fix.

Head on collision. Belted driver and front seat adult passengers suffered serious and permanent injuries.

: while driving the contact's husband encountered an area of black ice. The vehicle spun around, hitting a telephone pole, and then crashing into an embankment. Upon impact, none of the air bags deployed. The front of the vehicle was damaged. Although the contact's husband was wearing a seat belt his head went completely through the windshield. He sustained face and head injuries. A police report was taken at the scene. The insurance company evaluated the vehicle and it was deemed a total loss.

Contact's vehicle was involved in a head on collision while going 47 mph. Upon impact, niether of the front air bags deployed.

Rear ended a vehichle, showed airbag deployment, steering wheel opend up but bag did not deploy or inflate, charge but did not deploy.

Contact states: apparent failure of air bags to deploy. Consumer's wife and son rear ended another vehicle. Upon impact, both front air bags disengaged but did not deploy. They charged but did not actually come out.

Collision on 01/17/05 I was a passenger, my husband driving. Our 2004 Ford Taurus was in collision with a horse, the horse came through windshield on passenger side. In all probability totaled my car. Pending insurance adjuster decision. The airbag did not release. I was injured. The airbags did not release. We have been told the bumper had to be hit to make it go off. From the top of bumper all the way to middle of roof caved and shattered. If the airbag was not suppose to release, I feel that the general public is not aware of this misrepresentation. I think consumers should be made aware of something that is just an additional fixture they paid for, not a safety feature.

Consumer's vehicle rear end another vehicle in front at 35 mph. Upon impact, neither frontal air bag deployed. No injuries were reported. Dealer and the manufacturer were notified.

The air bag casing on the steering wheel cracked. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and was informed that it was only wear and tear, and it was nothing they could do.

When the consumer applied the brakes, the pedal went to the floor. The consumer collided with another driver. Both frontal air bags did deploy, but the air bags deployed in the upright position and hit the windshield and caused the windshield to shatter. My vehicle was involved in a traffic accident . . The front of mine rear ended another auto. . The force was sufficient to cause the passenger side front airbag to deploy but the drivers bag fail to deploy. . . Is this a normal occurrence where one bag will deploy but not the other. . If the driver of my vehicle had not been wearing the seat belt she could have sustained possible serious injuries.

Consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle while driving at 45 mph. Upon impact, none of the frontal air bags deployed.

While driving at 15 mph passenger air bag deployed. Dealership and manufacturer has been notified.

Rear ended at a stop light and pushed into the car in front of me. Both front seats, fully reclined, driver seat broke, no airbags at all deployed. Resulted in herniated discs for both driver and front seat (only) passenger.

The complaint was received via e-mail. In June of 2004 I was involved in a head on collision at 40 mph. None of the frontal airbags deployed, but fortunately the seat belts did work, quite possibly preventing serious injuries. A couple of weeks after the accident I notified Ford consumer service division about the air bags, but they didn't provide any assistance because my insurance company had already covered the damages, and they have current possession of the vehicle. They just blew me off.

Air bags in my 2001 Ford Taurus did not deploy upon hitting a Honda accord in the rear . The result of the impact was ~2500 damage to the Ford Taurus and ~ 4500 to the Honda accord it struck in the rear while stationary.

While pulling forward both frontal air bags deployed. This caused driver to burn his hand, and the windshield to break. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection, and dealer was unable to resolve the problem.

I had a severe t-bone type crash with a vehicle-not my fault as the other vehicle lost control and ended up in front of me-traveling approximately 45 to 50 mph. On a local highway. Our airbags, neither drivers nor passengers, did not deploy nor did the shoulder harnesses keep us from being thrown forward. Only the fact that we braced ourselves kept both of us from being badly injured.

Concerns regarding accident involving 2003 Ford Taurus rear-ended by a log truck. The air bag on the driver's side did not deploy, but the passenger air bag deployed.

Vehicle was involved in a single car collision where it rolled into a ditch, then struck a concrete "culvert" head-on. Upon impact, none of the air bags deployed.

The consumers vehicle was hit while driving and the automobile spun around three times then hit a pole. Both air bags deployed but the drivers air bag burst open and a white substance came out of it. Please give response in regarding air bags.

While driving 50 mph the vehicle was involved in a front end collision. None of the air bags deployed. One occupant in the vehicle was killed and one was injured. This was a rental car. . . .

While traveling at 30 mph the vehicle hit another vehicle on it's front side yet none of vehicles airbags deployed. The dealer has been contacted.

My son, rob, was severely injured in a high-speed crash when the air bag in our 2000 Ford Taurus failed to deploy during a head-on collision with a fencepost. The dealer, who did not see the car after the accident, claimed that the reason was where the post struck the car. Recently, we heard about the investigation into air bag problems with the Taurus and sable, and I think this could be another such case.

On September 23, 2002 I was involved in an auto accident. A Saturn turned directly into my vehicle's path. I was traveling at aproximately 40miles per hour and hit the Saturn on the left front of the vehicle. My car then left the roadway and hit a tree head on. The entire front of my car was damaged and pushed back. The Saturn's air bags deployed, my air bags did not. Both cars were totaled. I was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus that I had purchased two months ago as a program car. The steering wheel of the auto was warped and my right breast was damaged. I spent 5 days in the hospital due to the damage to my breast resulting in internal bleeding, which required blood transfusions. It has been one year and my breast still hasnt healed, and I may be permantly disfigured from this accident. My daughter, sitting in the passenger seat, obtained a neck injury that required surgery and 9 months of physical therapy. She still has problems with her neck. My grandson was in the backseat and was treated and released from the hospital.

My daughter was pulling into a parking space, she applied the brakes, the car lunged ahead and hit the building. The passenger air bag deployed and not the drivers air bag. She had her seat belt on and hit the steering wheel. I talked to Ford and they siad to go through my insurance company.

While traveling down a hill to avoid another vehicle consumer applied brakes and went into another vehicle. Upon impact, airbags didn't deploy. Dealership was aware of problem.
